  • Is there a way to obtain the raw image from a Norton Ghost file ?

    I have a Norton Ghost .gho file, and basicly I want to extract the raw image out of this, for example to use with with tools like dd. (So using any symantec/windows tools is not an option). Is there any open source tool which can deal with these .gho files ? (Note: the.gho file I'm using is a sector based one, and not a file-based one, which implies that things such as Ghost explorer won't work either (see this page)

  • 32-bit program using Office IFilters when 64-bit Office is installed

    64-bit Office installs 64-bit IFilters for its document types, but does not install 32-bit IFilters. Therefore, 32-bit programs that rely on IFilters cannot work with 64-bit Office. And although there is an option to download 32-bit IFilters from Microsoft, the installer will not run on a 64-bit machine, complaining about architecture mismatch. Is there any way to make 32-bit programs extract text from Office documents using IFilters when 64-bit Office is installed? Thanks.

  • Extracting and re-combining audio from a video

    I'm fed up with Vegas, Premiere, Pinnacle, SoundForge and all of the other editors I've tried. I'm trying to modify the audio of an AVI file, but all of the editors I've tried insist on re-encoding the video when I save the changes, and either reduce the quality or take hours. Is there a way to just extract the audio stream from a video with ffmpeg, edit it in an audio editor and then recombine the saved changes with the video?

I mean, different packages use total different naming specification. Here are the major questions: Why there are ubuntu in them, and there are not? what all the special -~+ mean? alpha and build, dfsg, what are they? Can I just use them casually? vim and other packages have 2:, what does that mean? How version comparison works, since they can be so different? Can anyone please explain this to me? I could follow all the steps, but the supposedly successfully published software does not appear on client/user machine's Add/Remove Programs. Could some help figure why this may not be working.     I have following problem - I damaged my system (Gentoo - by rebuilding using gcc 4.5) beyond repair. I unmounted /home, copied /etc + other important files and I've started reinstalling system. However I forgot to copy init script. It is still present in kernel image that I have. How to extract it? Please note that initrd is not a separate file but is in the kernel image.

  • Is it possible to find deleted objects in active directory without the assistance of a DLP software?

    It seems like a large number of security groups have been deleted from the organization's AD. i was able to find the tombstones but i see there 1400 objects from the last 180 days and i know for certain that the important groups which have been deleted, have been deleted somewhere between yesterday's night and now. Is there a way, maybe by using power shell to extract the names of all objects which have been deleted through out the night? Thanks in advance Itai

    We bought some new PCs in my company with the new iCore 7 and 8GB memory and the following hard disk: WESTERN DIGITAL WD8000AARS 800GB CAVIAR GREEN SATA2 The problem we have is that after installing windows XP64 SP2 the write speed of the hard disk is extremely low!. The windows system monitor shows that the Average Disk queue length is always at 100% and a winzip extract of 350mb takes about 8min. Is there any idea on where to start looking for the cause of that? Thanks

    My Windows NT account name was changed, and when starting PuTTY it now appears that my saved session information has been lost. The FAQ suggests that PuTTY sessions should be stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SimonTatham\PuTTY. Wikipedia explains that HKCU maps to NTUSER.DAT and USRCLASS.DAT under the current user's Desktop and Settings folder. I still have these files for my old account name, but I'm guessing there is no easy way to extract data from these files?

    Hello in which location and file does firefox save, the last windows I had opened (when firefox crashed). I have a complete "hot dump" copy of a file system and need to restore the state firefox was when the system crasehd but I cant not restore the full backupitself. I can only extract the files of firefox, but I do not know in which files i have to search for the urls that were last opened when the snapshop of the whole filesystem was done. thanks!!!

What format and file system are used to store the videos on the hard drive? I have looked at the documentation for this DVR box and there is no technical information about the manner in which recordings are stored. Is it possible to connect the hard drive to a computer and extract the recordings from it?

    I just got some 20Gb of data in a Visual FoxPro database with a custom frontend probably written in the same framework, and need to extract that data in any well-known format. I don't know anything about VFP in particular, but as it is SQL, there should be a way of opening an SQL console, or maybe an vfpdump utility. How can I do that? Everything I have now are a bunch of obscure binary files and a frontend executable.
