• html vertical space between blocks appears

  Please have a look at this page www.pixeli.ca/issue. I have begun making a page layout using CSS framework 960.gs. My problem is that there is some strange space appears between block with top image and blue block with "hello" string. So you can see a green stripe there that shouldn't be visible at all. I tried different variants and have no idea what's wrong with it. I noticed that it happens only with the block with images inside them, but if there is only text, no space happens. Thanks.

  So I have a piece of code which parses and validates user input: DateTime myDateTime = DateTime.Parse(userInput,currentCulture); Current culture is being set (to en-ca or en-fr) and the user Input is always in ISO 8601 format "yyyy-MM-dd". If the user enters 1900-01-01 the date is created as expected. If the input is "1900-01+01" the date time created is 1899-12-31 6:00:00 PM No exception is thrown, the DateTime.Parse happily converts this to the wrong date. To make this work I am using DateTime.ParseExact(userInput,"yyyy-MM-dd",currentCulture). So my question is: whats up with the +01 or any + value? Am I missing something in ISO standard?

  If an address can be composed of child elements: Street, City, State, PostalCode...how do you allow this XML: <Address> <Street>Somestreet</Street> <PostalCode>zip</PostalCode> </Address> and allow this: <Address> <Street>Somestreet</Street> <City>San Jose</City> <State>CA</State> </Address> but not this: <Address> <Street>Somestreet</Street> <City>San Jose</City> </Address> What schema will do such things!?

• Edit and create nodes in a view?

  We are storing people's class attendance information to Drupal. We would like to show this in a grid/chart, where the first column of each row shows person's name, and rest of the columns (ca. 20) either a checkbox or "X" if the user attended a class, or otherwise an non-checked box or empty column: (dates here) Jack X XXX X X Jill XX XXX XX It should also be possible to edit the attendance information on the grid. Each attendance information is a node of its own. This functionality can probably mostly be achieved using views and editablefields, but there is one problem: if a person has not attended a specific class he/she will not have at all an attendace node for that day. What would be the easiest way to create an attendace node in those cases, so that it would be possible for the end user to edit the grid by just clicking on the checkbox or typing an 'X'?

• How to reduce the number of cert validation requests... (IE is killing me slowly)

  On a customer's internal network, I can make a request to my SSL site using IE6 SP1 (on Win2K) and see one cert validation requests, but if I use IE6 SP2 (on XP) 13 separate cert validation requests get fired off. Needless to say, this slows down my page load a lot. Firefox loads the page just fine with no unnecessary cert validation requests. The server is Apache running a pretty new lampp stack. All the server certificate / CA chain configurations seem to be fine (users can authenticate w/ trusted certs, the system can communicate to other systems with that server cert, etc.) Is there anything I can do from a configuration standpoint? Any other ideas at all?

• iPhone tableview: titleForHeaderInSection derived from array

  I have a tableview that is populated by an array. Currently the tableview has no grouping. What I would like to do is check a value of each array object, such as State, and group all the CA items together, all the OR items together, etc. Then, assign those groups a title. The array is dynamic, and will grow and get new values in the future, so I can't hardcode titles, I would like these to somehow come from my initial array. Currently I am using the following, but it does not take into account sorting of the array, or if I removed all of the items in the array that have to do with California. - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { if (section == 0) { return @"California"; } else if (section == 1) { return @"Washington"; } else { return @"Utah"; } }//end tableView So, I am confusing myself as to how this would be possible.   I have $country which stores the 2 letter country code of a user. US for example. <select id="countries"> <option value="US">United States</option> <option value="EN">England</option> <option value="AU">Australia</option> <option value="CA">Canada</option> etc. </select> What's the best practice to add "selected" to the option of the users country code? I'm against adding a million if's. Also note, the countries are harcoded in HTML, so no array. :(

• Background color of the main content on the html page disappears

  It just makes me go mad. I can't realize what the problem is. Please have a look at the pixeli.ca/glass. There is a home page that looks good - white background of the main content and looks good. But all the other pages don't have white background so they look not the way they should look. All the pages have the same style sheet and the same layout elements taken from 960.gs framework. It's just some kind of mystery there. What I need is to make all page look like the home page - having white background. Thanks.

  Many email clients don't like linked CSS stylesheets, or even the embedded <style> tag, but rather want the CSS to appear inline as style attributes on all your markup. BAD: <link rel=stylesheet type="text/css" href="/style.css"> BAD: <style type="text/css">...</style> WORKS: <h1 style="margin: 0">...</h1> However this inline style attribute approach is a right pain to manage. I've found tools for Ruby and PHP that will take a CSS file and some separate markup as input and return you the merged result - a single file of markup with all the CSS converted to style attributes. I'm looking for a Perl solution to this problem, but I've not found one on CPAN or by searching Google. Any pointers? • Fulltext and composite indexes and how they affect the query

  Just say I had a query as below.. SELECT name,category,address,city,state FROM table WHERE MATCH(name,subcategory,category,tag1) AGAINST('education') AND city='Oakland' AND state='CA' LIMIT 0, 10; ..and I had a fulltext index as name,subcategory,category,tag1 and a composite index as city,state; is this good enough for this query? Just wondering if something extra is needed when mixing additional AND's when making use of the fulltext index with the MATCH/AGAINST. Edit: What I am trying to understand is, what happens with the additional columns that are within the query but are not indexed in the chosen index (the fulltext index), the above example being city and state. How does MySQL now find the matching rows for these since it can't use two indexes (or can it?) - so, basically, I'm trying to understand how MySQL goes about finding the data optimally for the columns NOT in the chosen fulltext index and if there is anything I can or should do to optimize the query.

• CakePHP Form Helper Database Interaction

  Currently I am developing a CakePHP that will list various businesses. In the database, there is a table for businesses that lists them like so: id | name | address | city | state | state_id | zip | url The state column are abbreviations of states (for listing purposes) CA, AK, FL, etc and the state_id matches up with the ids in the states table: id | name | state_abbr I have an admin_add.ctp template with form helpers for inserting new businesses. For entering a state for a business I am going to have a pull down that lists all the states. However, how do I make the database insert so it will know how to add the state abbreviation and state id when I submit the form to add the business?

• DB2 Select - Replace STATES with two character code

  I have a Users Table where it stores city, state and country along with other Users attributes. The states are stored as California, Alabama and so forth. Now I want to retrieve the user information for certain records but the state should get translated to two digit code. Say 'California' should be 'CA'. How should I go about doing this. I was thinking to create a mapping table for state names with there abbreviation and then use some sort of replace function to do it. Any ideas ?

• jquery.ui.tabs.js doesn't load tab data in IE9, Chrome - works perfectly fine in firefox

  I am a regex newbie and can't seem to figure this one out. The entire string can only be 16 characters long. I am pretty sure I am missing something obvious here regarding the leading zeros. Tried the NTS format and running into the same sort of problems.

  Based on my limited understanding of this parameter [1] it seems to be used in representing cookieless session IDs in java applications... but strangely, we're now noticing that a 3-year-old .NET stack is now appearing in Bing SERPs with GXHC_gx_session_id appended to the domain - and we're not alone: http://www.bing.com/search?q=GXHC_gx_session_id http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&q=GXHC_gx_session_id When comparing Google SERPs to Bing SERPs there are some inconsistencies in whether a particular site carries this parameter - is it then a bing-specific issue only? What else could cause this parameter to be appended to indexed URLs if the target environment (anything behind the load balancers) isn't running java? • MySQL, delete and index hint

  I have to delete about 10K rows from a table that has more than 100 million rows based on some criteria. When I execute the query, it takes about 5 minutes. I ran an explain plan (the delete query converted to select * since MySQL does not support explain delete) and found that MySQL uses the wrong index. My question is: is there any way to tell MySQL which index to use during delete? If not, what ca I do? Select to temp table then delete from temp table? Thank you!

• CALayer not obeying object ownership rules?

  I have a custom CALayer - UIProgressLayer - for simulating a progress bar. There is a dispatched GC timer involved to animate its intermediate state. So thats the layer I'm talking about here, although i don't think the problem is restricted to this particular subclass because a CALayer with only the -release and -dealloc overridden produces the same outcome. The problem is when i send this layer, for instance, a theLayer.opacity = 0.5f a -release message is sent to the layer, thus deallocating my layer. Why is this happening? Has it something to do with how the whole CA system works? But it still has to obey the object ownership rules right? I was thinking maybe it creates a copy of that layer for the fading, but that's not the case.

• Toggle Image Overlays in Google Maps API v3

  Hey guys. I've been building a small library for myself for a job I have at the moment building a map for a university. I've gotten pretty well everything I need in some basic form, but one thing has simply not been working, and is simply not giving me results. The university itself is sort of in a partnership with the neighboring college. It's been decided that both campuses should be included. I need to be able to toggle on/off the overlays of the campuses individually. i.e. Start with all campuses ON. User then turns OFF college campus, university overlay stays up. User can then turn it back on to display the college once more, or turn off the university as well, leaving no overlays. Here's a work in progress I'm doing at the moment: http://bgsweb.ca/maps/generator.html Basically, we need to take the one overlay, split it into multiple overlays, and enable the toggling of each individual overlay. Any assistance much appreciated!

• Ruby on Rails - Calendar Display

  We want to create a calendar view in a room scheduling application. The outcome we want is to have hours open (variable depending on day) across the top of the grid and the names of the rooms down the left side of the grid. The body would be populated with bookings for that day. The visual we're seeking is similar to the "Weekly Builder" plugin for Rails (http://dmix.ca/2009/06/weeklybuilder-a-weekly-calendar-plugin-for-rails/). We've tried using CSS to create variably-sized images, but this isn't working out. Are there any plugins available or other ways anyone can think of to accomplish this kind of visual? Thanks
