  • Migrating a Large amount of data from old publishing site to new site

    Hi, I am currently in the process of creating a new news/publishing site on the Movable Type platform. There are around 20 or so sites with 20,000+ rows of data to be moved/aggregated to ~8 sites (we have a number of location specific sites and are going to aggregate the content from these into 1 single site for each niche). We have discussed how to do this and came to the conclusion that it would probably be better to hire somebody to do it (I could probably do it, but i'm limited on time and am sure that a specialist would be more efficient). So my questions to you guys are: 1) What kind of skill set should we look for in an applicant? 2) There will be a large amount of input from our side... is getting somebody to work remotely out of the question? 3) How long would a task like this traditionally take (I know this question is very subjective, but an estimation would be awesome)? 4) Do you have any recommendations for firms who would be able to take on a large task like this?   • Android ADB has moved and Eclipse is looking in the old place

    I did an SDK update last night and it moved adb.exe. In its place it left a file called "adb_has_moved.txt" saying The adb tool has moved to platform-tools/ If you don't see this directory in your SDK, launch the SDK and AVD Manager (execute the android tool) and install "Android SDK Platform-tools" Please also update your PATH environment variable to include the platform-tools/ directory, so you can execute adb from any location. So I did all that, including the PATH and now I can start adb.exe from any DOS prompt. But I still can't start it from Eclipse (Galileo 3.52). When I try it says Location of the Android SDK has not been set up in the preferences ... which is not true. The SDK IS set up in Preferences. The real problem is at the top of the Preferences window where it says "Could not find C:\SDK\android-sdk-windows\ tools \adb.exe!" ...No kidding - the update moved it to C:\SDK\android-sdk-windows\ platform-tools. Because it's specifying a specific (wrong) path Eclipse is bypassing the PATH variable. So how do I get Eclipse to look in the right place?

    I have an old server with suse on it and its hosting numerous website under same IP , now i am trying to migrate the websites and all the contents of the old suse server to a new server with open suse 12.1 , i have transferred "/srv/www/vhosts" "/etc/apache2/vhosts.d" "/etc/apache2//httpd.conf" "/etc/apache2/listen.conf" "/etc/apache2/default-server.conf" i have transferred all the database files also . i am trying to replace the old server with the new server , i tried changing the ip address with the old server's ip address but its not working. what files do i need to transfer and what do i need to do to get the new server hosting the websites in place of the old server , please, any help will be greatly appreciated.

    This should be pretty simple, but I am new at LINQ. I have a List of FillList structs. I'd like to use LINQ to create a new List where instead of having the number of buys and sells, I would have one variable containing the sum. For example, if the FillStruct structure has buy = 4 and sell = 2 then the NewFillStruct structure will have numlong = 2. If the FillStruct structure has buy = 2 and sell = 4 then the NewFillStruct structure will have numlong = -2.   • Old dll.config problem !

    Since 2005 as I googled it's a problem for who needs to read the configuration of an assembly from it's config file "*.dll.config" and Microsoft didn't do anything yet. Story: If you try to read a setting from a class library (plug-in) you fail. Instead the main application domain (EXE which is using the plug-in) config is read and because probably there's not such a config your plug-in will use default setting which is hard-coded when you create it's settings for first time. Any change to .dll.config wouldn't see by your plug-in and you wonder why it's there! If you want to replace it and start searching you may find something like this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/594298/c-dll-config-file But just some ideas and one line code. A good replacement for built-in config shouldn't read from file system each time we need a config value, so we can store them in memory; Then what if user changes config file ? we need a FileSystemWatcher and we need some design like singleton ... and finally we are at the same point configuration of .NET is except our one's working. It seems MS did everything but forgot why they built the ".dll.config". Since no DLL is gonna execute by itself, they are referenced from other apps (even if used in web) and so why there's such a "*.dll.config" file ? I'm not gonna argue if it's good to have multiple config files or not. It's my design (plug-able components). Finally { After these years, is there any good practice such as a custom setting class to add in each assemly and read from it's own config file ? }

    I want to use htaccess to redirect all traffic from www.oldsite.com/directory to www.newsite.com I want to make it so that when visitors view any webpage within www.oldsite.com/directory (ie. www.oldsite.com/directory/contact.html) it gets redirected to the homepage of www.newsite.com I tried "Redirect /directory http:www.newsite.com" but the webpage the visitor is trying to access within the directory gets attached to the new sites url (ie. www.newsite.com/contact.html)

  • Old solutions being recalled in VisualStudio

    I have an odd scenario that I can't figure out, and would appreciate any advice offered. I'm running VisualStudio 2010 pro. I have a web application solution with 6 projects. On one occasion I opened up some files from a number of backup solutions to look at some historic code. I viewed them and closed the files. I did this with my current project open. I may have rebuilt the solution with them open but I'm not sure. I recently did a 'find', searching the whole solution, and noticed that the files from the backups are referenced as being part of the solution. How do I remove them?

    I have been porting oracle selects, and I have been running across a lot of queries like so: SELECT e.last_name, d.department_name FROM employees e, departments d WHERE e.department_id(+) = d.department_id; ...and: SELECT last_name, d.department_id FROM employees e, departments d WHERE e.department_id = d.department_id(+); Are there any guides/tutorials for converting all of the variants of the (+) syntax? What is that syntax even called (so I can scour google)? When was this standard phased out? Any info is appreciated.

  • Does redirecting old site's URLs to new site's front page hurt a page's ranking?

    An old site that is being rewritten needs to have it's URLs redirected to the new site. There are a few hundred pages that may or may not have corresponding pages on the new site, probably with different slugs, and adding mappings manually will require more hours than we can spare. It was suggested that all old URLs be redirected to the new front page, but I remember reading somewhere that this confers a penalty in page rank because it's what link farmers do. Is this true or can we take the easy way out?

    Hi. I have been asked to update a program written in 1987 in Delphi (I guess). I have no documentation about this program only a few side notes the programmer took that don't make too much sense to make. The cd show this files: Size | Filename - 19956 VP.DTA - 142300 VP.LEX - 404 VP.NDX - 126502 VP.RCS - 131016 VP.SCR - 150067 VP.XEL - 101791 vp.exe Is anyone of this files a database? If so can I access it's data? I tried several code decompilers but they show a message saying it was not a Win32 compatible application. The program run in MS-DOS. Is it possible to obtain the source code? Can I use this code in any way to build a new application? Thanks Update01: I can run the program in MSDOS. The program conjugate verbs and shows an example sentence where the verb can be used. The GUI is a little bit confusing and there is no help menu so I can't see all the capabilities of the program.

  • Making Wix uninstall an old plug-in when performing an upgrade

    I have a main product which is installed using Wix and has its own UpgradeCode In between releases of the main product we sometimes release plug-ins which add or patch some functionality. The plug-ins are packaged in their own Wix generated .msi files with their own UpgradeCodes and generally install addition files is a separate folder from the main product. I want to create a new version of the main product which includes the functionality which was previously available in a plug-in. A user upgrading to the new version will no longer need the plug-in so it would be nice to uninstall it as part of the upgrade. Is there a way of making Wix uninstall a product with UpgradeCode2 when it is upgrading product with UpgradeCode1?

  • Getting 404 when attempting to POST file to Google Cloud Storage from service account

    I'm wondering if anyone can tell me the proper syntax & formatting for a service account to send a POST Object to bucket request? I'm attempting it programmatically using the HttpComponents library. I manage to get a token from my GoogleCredential, but every time I construct the POST request, I get: HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?><Error><Code>AccessDenied</Code><Message>Access denied.</Message><Detailsbucket-name</Details></Error The Google documentation that describes the request methods, mentions posting using html forms, but I'm hoping that wasn't suggesting the ONLY way to get the job done. I know that HttpComponents has a way to explicitly create form data by using UrlEncodedFormEntity, but it doesn't support multipart data. Which is why I went with using the MultipartEntity class.   • nhibernate mapping: delete collection, insert new collection with old IDs

    my issue lokks similar to this one: (link) but i have one-to-many association: <set name="Fields" cascade="all-delete-orphan" lazy="false" inverse="true"> <key column="[TEMPLATE_ID]"></key> <one-to-many class="MyNamespace.Field, MyLibrary"/> </set> (i also tried to use ) this mapping is for Template object. this one and the Field object has their ID generators set to identity. so when i call session.Update for the Template object it works fine, well, almost: if the Field object has an Id number, UPDATE sql request is called, if the Id is 0, the INSERT is performed. But if i delete a Field object from the collection it has no effect for the Database. I found that if i also call session.Delete for this Field object, everything will be ok, but due to client-server architecture i don't know what to delete. so i decided to delete all the collection elements from the DB and call session.Update with a new collection. and i've got an issue: nhibernate performs the UPDATE operation for the Field objects that has non-zero Id, but they are removed from DB! maybe i should use some other Id generator or smth.. what is the best way to make nhibernate perform "delete all"/"insert all" routine for the collection?

  • Should I continue teaching old Java input methods alongside the new ones?

    I've been imparting a Java introduction course for several years. Some slides explain how to read from files and keyboard using BufferedReaders, InputStreams, FileInputStreamReaders etc. I'm adding slides explaining how to achieve this using more up to date approaches like Scanner. Should I leave out the old BufferedReaders, InputStreams and FileInputStreamReaders slides altogether, and teach only the new methods, or should I continue to teach these methods for the sake of completeness ? Will my students benefit from learning how to read from files and keyboard the old way ?
