  • Generate Unique Abstract Backgrounds with Ablaze

    - by Jason Fitzpatrick
If you want custom and unique backgrounds without having to code your own image-generating engine, Ablaze makes it simple (and fun) to create abstract images. You can customize a wide array of options in Ablaze including the base shape (ring, horizontal line, or random), number of particles, distance each particle travels, and the speed (if you increase the speed range you get more distinct lines and if you decrease it you get smoother smokier shapes). You can also seed the design with a color palette pulled from any image you provide (the sample above was seeded with a Wonder Woman comic panel). Tweak and reset the pattern generation as much as you want; when you create an abstract image worthy of your desktop just click the save button to grab a copy of it in PNG format. • How to run a bootable USB drive as my primary PC for an extended period?

    - by jason
My hard drive has crashed, and I won't be able to buy a new one for a month or two. I've got a 16GB USB 3.0 flash drive that I'd like to have running a persistent ubuntu or ubuntu gnome distro. While it's not the best solution, is it a solution, or is it just a good way to wear out a flash drive? I plan on mostly storing things in Google Drive, so other than wearing out the flash drive, are there any risks involved?

  • Sound not working

    - by Jason
I am new to ubuntu, but really enjoy it. I do have one issue with setting it up on my computer. It is a GoBook XR-1 and everything works perfectly except there is no sound. I've searched and tried everything that I can think of, even uninstalling ubuntu and trying Windows to see if the speakers worked. I found out that it wasn't the speakers or any hardware issues. I tried to download the Realtek drivers, but still no success.

  • Ways to earn money through programming and/or programming knowledge [closed]

    - by Jason Swett
It occurred to me today that it might be useful to make a list of all the ways to earn money through either actual programming or just programming knowledge. I imagine it's probably a finite list as long as you stick to a reasonable level of granularity. Here's what I have so far: Trading your time for money (i.e. having a job or being a freelancer) Building your own software product (a full-fledged startup or a tiny mobile app or whatever) Giving talks at conferences and meetups Teaching students in a classroom Writing a book or blog (these are products, but non-software products) I've probably missed at least a few. What else is there? (I'm not sure whether this is an appropriate question, by the way. I think I would select the best answer based on how practical/original/interesting/numerous your suggestions are.)

  • Clear float issue

    - by Jason
I have a page with the standard navigation bar on the left and the content area taking up the rest of the horizontal area to its side. For modern browsers I am using table-row and table-cell values for the display attribute. However, for IE7 I included a conditional stylesheet that tries to float the nav bar. This works fine except when the content area itself has floated elements and I try to use clear. My goal is to displayed the clear element right after the content area floats but instead it gets shoved down below the nav area. The following demo code shows this issue. My goal is to get the table to display right below the "leftThing" and "rightThing" but instead there is a large gap between them and the table. <html> <head> <title>Float Test</title> <style type="text/css"> #body { background: #cecece; } #sidebar { background: #ababab; float: left; width: 200px; } #content { background: #efefef; margin-left: 215px; } #leftThing { background: #456789; float: left; width: 100px; } #rightThing { background: #654321; float: right; width: 100px; } table { clear: both; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="body"> <div id="sidebar"> <ul> <li>One</li> <li>Two</li> <li>Three</li> </ul> </div> <div id="content"> <div style="position: realtive;"> <div id="leftThing"> ABCDEF </div> <div id="rightThing"> WXYZ </div> <table> <thead> <th>One</th> <th>Two</th> </thead> <tr> <td>Jason</td> <td>45</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Mary</td> <td>41</td> </tr> </table> <p>Exerci ullamcorper consequat duis ipsum ut nostrud zzril, feugait feugiat duis dolor feugiat commodo, accumsan, duis illum eum molestie luptatum nisl iusto. • UpdatePanel, JavaScript postback and changing querystring at same time in SharePoint Search Page

    - by Lee Dale
Hi Guys, Been tearing my hear out with this one. Let me see if I can explain: I have a SharePoint results page on which I have a Search Results Core WebPart. Now I want to change the parameter in the querystring when I postback the page so that the WebPart returns different results for each parameter e.g. the querystring will be interactivemap.aspx?k=Country:Romania this will filter the results for Romania. First issue is I want to do this with javascript so I call: document.getElementById('aspnetForm').action = "interactivemap.aspx?k=Country:" + country; Nothing special here but the reason I need to call from Javascript is there is also a flash applet on this page from which the Javascript calls originate. When the javascript calls are made the page needs to PostBack but not reload the flash applet. I turned to ASP.Net AJAX for this so I wrapped the search results webpart in an update panel. Now if I use a button within the UpdatePanel to postback the UpdatePanel behaves as expected and does a partial render of the search results webpart not reloading the flash applet. Problem comes because I need postback the page from javscript. I called __doPostBack() as I have used this successully in the past. It works on it's own but fails when I first call the above Javascript before the __doPostBack() (I also tried calling click() on a hidden button) the code for the page is at the bottom. I think the problem comes with the scriptmanager not allowing a partial render when the form post action has changed. My questions are. A) Is there some other way to change the search results webpart parameter without using the querystring. or B) Is there a way around changing the querystring when doing an AJAX postback and getting a partial render. <asp:Content ContentPlaceHolderID="PlaceHolderFullContent" runat="server"> function update(country) { //__doPostBack('ContentUpdatePanel', ''); //document.getElementById('aspnetForm').action = "interactivemap.aspx?k=ArticleCountry:" + country; document.getElementById('ctl00_PlaceHolderFullContent_UpdateButton').click(); } Romania <div class="firstDataTitle"> <div class="datatabletitleOuterWrapper"> <div class="datatabletitle"> <span>Content</span></div> </div> <div class="datatableWrapper"> <div class="dataHolderWrapper"> <div class="datatable"> <div> <div class="searchMain"> <div class="searchZoneMain"> <asp:UpdatePanel runat="server" id="ContentUpdatePanel" UpdateMode="Conditional"> <ContentTemplate> <WebPartPages:webpartzone runat="server" AllowPersonalization="false" title="<%$Resources:sps,LayoutPageZone_BottomZone%>" id="BottomZone" orientation="Vertical" QuickAdd-GroupNames="Search" QuickAdd-ShowListsAndLibraries="false"><ZoneTemplate></ZoneTemplate></WebPartPages:webpartzone> <asp:Button id="UpdateButton" name="UpdateButton" runat="server" Text="Update"/> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div>

  • Launching waiting for xdebug session 57%

    - by Lee Timms
Problem: In short, I am getting the "Launching waiting for xdebug session 57%" problem. I am running Eclipse Gallileo Build id: 20100218-1602 on Windows 7 Ultimate I am running php 5.3.8 The Zend Extension Build and PHP Extension Build are both - API220090626,TS,VC9 Solutions Tried: I have verified that port 9000 is available for use, I have even tried other ports as a double check that ports was not the issue. That includes setting the ports in both the php.ini file and in the Eclipse development environment. • Do SEO-friendly URLs really affect a page's ranking?

    - by Lee Harold
SEO-friendly URLs are all the rage these days. But do they actually have a meaningful impact on a page's ranking in Google and other search engines? If so, why? If not, why not? (Note that I would absolutely agree that SEO-friendly URLs are nicer to use for human beings. My question is whether they actually make a difference to the ranking algorithms.) Update: As it turns out, the Google post that endorphine points to here has caused tremendous confusion in the SEO community. For a sampling of the discussion, see here, here, and here. Part of the problem is that the Google post is addressing the worst case where URL rewriting is done poorly and so you'd be better off sticking with a dynamic URL rather than a mangled static "SEO-friendly" URL. There's no question dynamic URLs can be crawled by Google and can achieve high rankings. Maybe it would be easier to reframe the question more concretely: given 2 otherwise equivalent pages, which will rank higher for the search "do seo friendly urls really affect page ranking"? A) http://stackoverflow.com/questions/505793/do-seo-friendly-urls-really-affect-a-pages-ranking or B) http://stackoverflow.com?question=505793 (a fake URL for comparison only)

  • "The specified view is invalid" in call to LimitedWebPartManager.AddWebPart in SharePoint 2010

    - by Lee Richardson
This code used to work in WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007 in FeatureReceiver.FeatureActivated: using (SPLimitedWebPartManager limitedWebPartManager = Site.GetLimitedWebPartManager("default.aspx", PersonalizationScope.Shared)) { ListViewWebPart listViewWebPart = new ListViewWebPart { Title = title, ListName = list.ID.ToString("B").ToUpper(), ViewGuid = view.ID.ToString("B").ToUpper() }; limitedWebPartManager.AddWebPart(listViewWebPart, zone, position); } I'm trying to convert to SharePoint 2010 and it now fails with: System.ArgumentException: The specified view is invalid. at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPViewCollection.get_Item(Guid guid) at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.ListViewWebPart.EnsureListAndView(Boolean requireFullBlownViewSchema) at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.ListViewWebPart.get_AppropriateBaseViewId() at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.SPWebPartManager.AddWebPartInternal(SPSupersetWebPart superset, Boolean throwIfLocked) at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.SPLimitedWebPartManager.AddWebPartInternal(WebPart webPart, String zoneId, Int32 zoneIndex, Boolean throwIfLocked) at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.SPLimitedWebPartManager.AddWebPart(WebPart webPart, String zoneId, Int32 zoneIndex) Interestingly enough when I run it from a unit test it works, it only fails in FeatureActivated. When I debug with Reflector it is failing on this line: this.view = this.list.LightweightViews[new Guid(this.ViewGuid)]; list.LightweightViews only returns one view, the default view, even though list.Views returns all of them. I have no idea what LightweightViews is supposed to mean and I'm running out of ideas. Anyone else got any?

  • C#: Multiline TextBox with TextBox.WordWrap Displaying Long Base64 String

    - by Peter Lee
Hi, Happy New Year! I have a textbox to display a very long Base64 string. The TextBox.Multline = true and TextBox.WordWrap = true. The issue is caused by the auto-word-boundary detection of the TextBox itself. The Base64 string has '+' as one of the 64 characters for Base64 encoding. Therefore, the TextBox will wrap it up at the '+' character, which is not what I want (because the use might think there is a newline character around the '+' character). I just want my Base64 string displayed in Mulitline-mode in TextBox, but no word boundary detection, that is, if the TextBox.Width can only contain 80 characters, then each line should have exact 80 characters except the last line. I'm not sure if I made myself clear. Thanks. Peter

    - by Lee
Hi All I would like to build a simple menu for each list element clicked on but hide this div once you click outside it. Here is some simple code which hopefully will make sense. $('.drillFolder').click(function(){ var id = $(this).attr('data-folder'); $(".drillDownFolder ul li > a").attr('data-id', id); $(".drillDownFolder").show(); }); $("body").click(function(e){ if(e.target.className !== "drillDownFolder") { $(".drillDownFolder").hide(); } }); //The hidden div <div class="drillDownFolder" style="display:none"> <ul> <li><a href="#" data-id="">Show Image</a></li> <li><a href="#" data-id="">Edit Image</a></li> </ul> </div> I know whats wrong as the menu is show via the .drillFolder links the body click is then hiding it straight away. • MVVM && IOC && Sub-ViewModels

    - by Lee Treveil
I have a ViewModel, it takes two parameters in the constructor that are of the same type: public class CustomerComparerViewModel { public CustomerComparerViewModel(CustomerViewModel customerViewModel1, CustomerViewModel customerViewModel2) { } } public class CustomerViewModel { public string FirstName { get; set; } public string LastName { get; set; } } If I wasn't using IOC I could just new up the viewmodel and pass the sub-viewmodels in. I could package the two viewmodels into one class and pass that into the constructor but if I had another viewmodel that only needed one CustomerViewModel I would need to pass in something that the viewmodel does not need. How do I go about dealing with this using IOC? I'm using Ninject btw. Thanks

  • Content Management System Where the Content needs to reside

    - by lee
Hi, We are developing a Online Ordering Website and we are planning to be completely flexible in the sense Layout can be changed, Color, Font , and in a page a component(div) can be added. In this case whether we need to store all our View Code for example <div id="MenuContent"> <div> <h4> Your Order</h4> <hr /> <%if (Model != null) { %> <table width="100%"> <thead> <tr> <th> Item </th> <th> Quantity </th> <th> Price </th> <th> Remove </th> <th> Total </th> </tr> </thead> ...... in the database or we can just store the div id and based on that load a view which is avalaible in the file system. Any Pointers is greatly appreciated.

  • SWIG: Python list to uint32_t *?

    - by Lee Crabtree
I'm trying to work with a Python module that was generated by SWIG. There's a C++ class defined that works like this (simplified): namespace Foo { class Thing { public: Thing(); ~Thing(); bool DoSomething(uint32_t x, uint32_t y, uint32_t z, uint32_t *buffer); }; }; When I try to call it from Python, I get an error about the last argument needing to be of type 'uint32_t*'. Normal Python integers work just fine for the other arguments, so I can't understand why a list of ints wouldn't work for the buffer. Any suggestions?

  • How to use htaccess to rewrite url to html anchor tag (#)

    - by Lee L
Hi - I have a situation where I want to take the following URL: /1/john and have it redirect using Apache's htaccess file to go to /page.php?id=1&name=john#john so that it goes to an html anchor with the name of john. I've found a lot of reference to escaping special characters, and to adding the [NE] flag so that the redirect ignores the # sign, but these don't work. For example, adding [NE,R] means that the URL just appears in the browser address as the original: http://mysite.com/page.php?id=1&name=john#john. Any help would be appreciated.
