  • How can I access profile fields with a % variable in Drupal Actions?

    - by Rob Mosher
I have an action setup in drupal to e-mail me when a new user registers for the site. Right now it is only telling me their user name (%username). Is there a variable that can access added fields so I can get their real name (First Last), or another way to add this info to the action message? So instead of my new user action having a message like: "%username created an account" - "jschmoe created and account" I could have: "%first_name %last_name (%username) created an account" - "Joe Schmoe (jschmoe) created an account". I'm using Content Profile module for the first and last name fields, though have few enough users at the moment that I could switch to Profile module fields.

  • Writing a Data Access Layer (DAL) for SQL Server

In this tip, I am going to show you how you can create a Data Access Layer (to store, retrieve and manage data in relational database) in ADO .NET. I will show how you can make it data provider independent, so that you don't have to re-write your data access layer if the data storage source changes and also you can reuse it in other applications that you develop. • Subdomains vs. subdirectory – status as of 2012.

    - by Quintin Par
This following question by Jeff was in 2010 and I wanted to check how things have changed in the past 2 years. My problem: I run a site with most of the content distributed to subdomains that’s are user based. E.g: Joe.example.com John.example.com Jil.example.com So all of these subdomains have the content and the main site example.com becomes a mere dummy listing all the subdomains. Now the question is, as of 2012, how is google treating domain authority and page rank in this case? I understand the notion of page rank as page per se but when it comes to domain authority will the parent domain have the cumulative effect of the domain authority or will it be spread out?

  • Linqpad and Autocompletion

I have mentioned before about doing development for StreamInsight in Linqpad. I have it installed on two separate PCs and I have enabled autocompletion on only one of them. Whilst both versions are an excellent tool, the one with autocompletion enabled is so much easier to use. After enabling autocompletion you can see I now get parameter listing Free trial of SQL Backup™“SQL Backup was able to cut down my backup time significantly AND achieved a 90% compression at the same time!” Joe Cheng. • Data Conversion in SQL Server

Most of the time, you do not have to worry about implicit conversion in SQL expressions, or when assigning a value to a column. Just occasionally, though, you'll find that data gets truncated, queries run slowly, or comparisons just seem plain wrong. Robert Sheldon explains why you sometimes need to be very careful if you mix data types when manipulating values. • Understanding and Using Parallelism in SQL Server

SQL Server is able to make implicit use of parallelism to speed SQL queries. Quite how it does it, and how you can be sure that it is doing so, isn't entirely obvious to most of us. Paul White begins a series that makes it all seem simple, starting at the gentle level of counting Jelly Beans. • Concatenating Rows

Often in database design we store different values in rows to take advantage of a normalized design. However many times we need to combine multiple rows of data into one row for a report of some sort. New author Carl P. Anderson brings us some interesting T-SQL code to accomplish this. • Baby's first big CPP project - please help [closed]

    - by jamesson
So, I need to do a few things to the code here; http://64.90.55.88/SynapseSource-Win.zip What I need to do 1)remove the opengl output window 2)Make it work with latest openni (http://75.98.78.94/default.aspx) - as far as I could tell it only works with a specific older version 3)Improve ram and cpu usage (assuming I don't get what I need from the first two changes) 4)Eventually rebuild it as an object in this sdk; http://cycling74.com/products/sdk/ I tried going through the documentation, but "the needle could not penetrate", alas. For example, I am still unclear about some basic things; a) what are the relative responsibilities of nite vs openni? b) which xml files are always used when the app launches, and what is their format? Many thanks in advance Joe Stavitsky

  • Lipoaspiration in your SQL Server Database

Once, when disk space was at a premium, DBAs fought hard to keep the size of their database down. Now there seems less motivation to 'fight the flab' of a database. Fabiano Amorim was watching television recently when the subject matter, cosmetic surgery, gave him the theme and inspiration for this guide to keeping your database fit and trim.

  • OpenGL Beginner question

    - by nobby
I'm new to OpenGL programming, but I can't find a good book to read or a tutorial, I've tried reading through the superbible or whatever its name is but it's kind of complicated to me. The tutorial at http://duriansoftware.com/joe/An-intro-to-modern-OpenGL.-Chapter-2.3:-Rendering.html is pretty ok but it doesn't cover what I need mostly, which is opengl math etc (such as projection matrix, view matrix, and so on). I'm fairly OK at C(++) (3+ years experience, I don't know if you would call that "good") What i basically want to do with OpenGL is, make a simple game (prefer 2D as a start and not 3D). Please suggest a good EBook to read and learn from.

  • Is regularly hiring and making permanent staff redundant normal? [on hold]

    - by ses
Is a cycle of hiring permanent staff and then making them redundant after 1-2 years due to 're-alignment of business goals' / 'changes in priorities' normal in the technology industry? This behaviour hardly seems justifiable, and here in the UK it is questionable whether it is even legal. I begin to wonder whether some of this behaviour I have seen in this economy is due to the companies involved not wanting to pay premium rates for contractors (who I must admit in my opinion often offer no more value), and using 'redundancy' e.g. "sorry joe, you're not needed any more", as a convenient way of recreating the contracting scenario. It seems in this situation if you're a valued developer your job probably is never at risk, but I can understand it being a worry for people and I don't think it is fair on those who are mislead into thinking that they have a longer term career with the companies which do this.

  • C# .NET 4.0 interactive course?

    - by Kanyhalos
I would like to learn C# programming. I already studied it for several weeks and wrote some minor programs with VS2010, and I'm not completely newbie at programming because I worked on STALKER - Shadow of Chernobyl as scripter, but it was LUA. I want to become a real programmer. I think C# is a decent way to start with. I already learned about the most commonly used resource sites and got some nice eBooks as well, but unfortunately I don't have time to sit down in front my computer all the time, so my progress is pretty slow. I would like to ask that if someone can recommend me some decent interactive online courses to make my learning progress faster. I know about the "joe grip" course but I don't know if it's worth $39 also it's only for .NET 1.x and 2.0 while I'd like to learn 4.0 so I have no idea what should I do.

  • Why do Scala maps have poor performance relative to Java?

    - by Mike Hanafey
I am working on a Scala app that consumes large amounts of CPU time, so performance matters. The prototype of the system was written in Python, and performance was unacceptable. The application does a lot with inserting and manipulating data in maps. Rex Kerr's Thyme was used to look at the performance of updating and retrieving data from maps. Basically "n" random Ints were stored in maps, and retrieved from the maps, with the time relative to java.util.HashMap used as a reference. The full results for a range of "n" are here. Sample (n=100,000) performance relative to java, smaller is worse: Update Read Mutable 16.06% 76.51% Immutable 31.30% 20.68% I do not understand why the scala immutable map beats the scala mutable map in update performance. Using the sizeHint on the mutable map does not help (it appears to be ignored in the tested implementation, 2.10.3). Even more surprisingly the immutable read performance is worse than the mutable read performance, more significantly so with larger maps. The update performance of the scala mutable map is surprisingly bad, relative to both scala immutable and plain Java. What is the explanation?

  • Read a text file and transfer contents to mysql database

  • Parallel programming patterns for C#?

    - by VoidDweller
With Intel's launch of a Hexa-Core processor for the desktop, it looks like we can no longer wait for Microsoft to make many-core programming "easy". I just order a copy of Joe Duffy's book Concurrent Programming on Windows. This looks like a great place to start, though, I am hoping some of you who have been targeting multi/many core systems would point me to some good resources that have or would have helped on your projects?

  • TI MSP430 Interrupt source

    - by TheDelChop
Guys, I know that when working with the MSP430F2619 and TI's CCSv4, I can get more than one interrupt to use the same interrupt handler with code that looks something like this: #pragma vector=TIMERA1_VECTOR #pragma vector=TIMERA0_VECTOR __interrupt void Timer_A (void){ ServiceWatchdogTimer(); } My question is, when I find myself in that interrupt, is there a way to figure out which one of these interrupts got me here? Thank you, Joe

  • Show SQL query results in Sharepoint

    - by JoeOD
Hi All I support Rational clearquest for my company and have been asked to show some of the data in Sharepoint. I can query the data in Clearquest no problem (Using Toad) but have no idea about how to go displaying it in Sharepoint. The data I'm querying contains dates and ideally I'd like to be able display it in a sharepoint calendar but list format would do for the moment. Can anybody offer advice on even where to start? Thanks, Joe

  • Prevent checkins to SVN

    - by Joseph Mastey
My team uses SVN for our software platform, and we create tags periodically to help keep module versions straight. Best practice, as I understand it, is not to modify a tag once it has been created. However, it seems that sometimes the temptation is too great and a modification is made to one of the tags. Is there a way to prevent these kinds of checkins, or at least make them a complete pain so that we can discourage them automatically? Thanks, Joe
