  • In what cases should I install (and configure) Postfix as a desktop user?

    Possible cases: 1) I plan to do Debian packaging (this case is the motivation since postfix gets installed as a dependency of some development packages, so it means that in such a case might be necessary). 2) I plan to use Evolution and a Internet provider mail account. 3) I plan to use gmail. Surely if I read Postfix documentation I may find the answer, but its huge and couldn't find it. In any case how (or where) should I find the answer to a question like that by myself? (I really tried)

    Every Customer has a physical address and an optional mailing address. What is your preferred way to model this? Option 1. Customer has foreign key to Address Customer (id, phys_address_id, mail_address_id) Address (id, street, city, etc.) Option 2. Customer has one-to-many relationship to Address, which contains a field to describe the address type Customer (id) Address (id, customer_id, address_type, street, city, etc.) Option 3. Address information is de-normalized and stored in Customer Customer (id, phys_street, phys_city, etc. mail_street, mail_city, etc.) One of my overriding goals is to simplify the object-relational mappings, so I'm leaning towards the first approach. What are your thoughts?

  • Windows Server 2008 - Setting Up DNS and Web Server (IIS) to host personal website?

    Okay, I have a server, (Windows Server 2008 R2 to be more precise) and I have installed PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin, for web hosting purposes. I have set up a static ip address internally. I have installed the role DNS and Web Server (IIS) role. I now set up my forward looking zone as my chosen domain. I set up the nameservers as ns1.domain.co.uk with my IP address which I found from whatismyip.org. However, when I type my IP address, it times out with an error (Timeout Error). Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing something? Also I have seen that most websites have multiple nameservers, which are apparently mirror IP addresses which all redirect to one IP address. Also, I can locally connect using the IP address 192.168.0.8, however, I want to put my website online/live on the internet. Can anyone help me with this? -- Regards

  • Combine the Address & Search Bars in Firefox

    The Search Bar in Firefox is very useful for finding additional information or images while browsing but the UI space it takes up can be frustrating at times. Now you can reclaim that UI space and still have access to all that searching goodness with the Foobar extension. Note: This is about the Foobar Firefox extension and not to be confused with Foobar2000 the open source music player. Before If you have the “Search Bar” displayed there is no doubt that it is taking up valuable space in your browser’s UI. What you need is the ability to reclaim that UI space and still have the same access to your search capability as before…no more sacrificing one for a gain with the other. After As soon as you have installed the extension you can see that the top part of your browser will look much sleeker without the “Search Bar” to clutter it up. The “Search Engine Icon” will now be visible inside of your “Address Bar” as seen here. You will be able to access the same “Search Engine Menu” as before by clicking on the “Search Engine Icon”. There are two display modes for search results (setting available in the “Options”). The first one shown here is “Simple Mode” where all results are in a condensed format. Notice that not only are there search suggestions but also “Bookmarks & History” listings as well. You can literally get the best of both when conducting a search. Note: The number of entries for search suggestions and bookmark/history listings can be adjusted higher or lower in the “Options”. The second one is “Rich Mode” where the results are shown with more details. Choose the “mode” that best suits your personal style. For our first example you can see the results when we conducted a quick search on “Windows 7” (using the first of the three offerings shown from Bing). Our second example was a search for “Flowers” using our Photobucket search engine. Once again nice results opened in a new tab for us. Options The options are easy to go through. It is really nice to be able to choose the number of results that you want displayed and the format that you want them shown in. Note: Changing the “Suggestion popup style” will require a browser restart to take effect. Conclusion If you love using the “Search Bar” in Firefox but want to reclaim the UI space then you will definitely want to add this extension to your browser. The ability to customize the number of results and choose the formatting make this extension even better.   • Problem with From field in contact form and mail() function

    I've got a contact form with 3 fields and a textarea... I use jQuery to validate it and then php to send emails. This contact form works fine but, when I receive an email, From field isn't correct. I'd like to want that From field shows text typed in the Name field of the contact form.   • PHP-FPM chroot mail issues

    I'm trying to chroot a site using PHP-FPM. I've been following this post and have done mount --bind for all of those files and folders. When I try to send mail using mail(), it returns false. PHP does have access to usr/sbin/sendmail (which is what my sendmail path is set to in the php.ini), along with the other files mentioned in that post, within the chroot. Anybody have any clues as to what files I'm missing or how to debug further?

    Is there any way to coax Gmail into pushing new-mail notifications into my Linux machine, without using a full-on graphical mail client like Thunderbird? edit: Thanks for all the responses, but (unless I'm mistaken) these applications all poll, none of them receive notifications pushed from GMail. Also, I'd prefer a console-based program, as this will be running on a headless server.

  • Plesk Postfix Mail Server 9.5.4 very heavy load, 1000s of processes

    Our Plesk Linux Ubuntu 64-bit mail server has extremely high load and we don't know how to isolate it. The load was okay will two weeks ago but in the last two weeks it's seriously deteriorated. The mail server has been running for years and we have had sporadic performance issues. Normally we reduce the load by turning off all SPAM checks until the problem is sorted (which sometimes resolves itself). Currently we have turned of real time block lists, SPF checking and we have attempted to turn off SpamAssassin. No matter what we do the SpamAssassin check box stays ticked in the GUI. Out of desperation we have done /etc/init.d/psa-spamassassin stop. For years we haven't been able to do SpamAssassin because it kills the server. We would like to use it but performance is more important for now. We cannot turn off Greylisting. The moment we turn off Greylisting our help desk is inandated with calls. Out of desperation we investigated truncating the Greylisting database which is now 2.5 GB big but we abandoned this after noticing turning of Greylisting doesn't improve the performance at all. We have no anti-virus. It's just more load and Dr. Web never really worked that well for us. But we'll try that if it will make a difference. We have implemented Postfix Anvil. This seems to have made the situation worse so we disabled it. We’re not sure if this is the case. Our current mail server is configured to forward all SMTP to a relay server. We did so to reduce the load. This helped a lot because outgoing queues are generally empty. We are running in an Expand configuration. The mail server has about 12 000 accounts of which maybe half are active. We have read through this document: http://www.postfix.org/STRESS_README.html but there are too many settings and we don’t know which ones to choose. Please assist urgently. We need advice on how to fix this problem before all our clients abandon is.     I'm using a D-Link DWR-112 3G router to connect to the internet by using Celcom broadband plug-in. How can I do the port forwarding to my server? I already have correctly configured my DynDNS, but every time the DynDNS will not set to public address but local private address with in the range 10.xxx.xxx.xxx. My router address is 192.168.1.1 and server address is 192.168.1.5. Can someone give me some guideline about this issue?

I had the same problem with 9.10, and I thought the problem would go away when I upgraded to 10.04.   • Postfix issues sending mail to addresses under domain located on server

    I recently installed virtualmin on my nice shiny new rackspace cloud. Everything went seemlessly but I've been having some issues getting emails to send properly. The problem seems to be that the server can not send mail to email addresses where the domain is owned by my server. For example, on my server I run multiple virtual domains, lets call this one test.com.
