  • Remove a file on linux using the inode number

    If you create a file on UNIX/linux with special chars, like touch \"la*, you can't remove it with rm "la*. You have to use the inode number(you can if you add the \ before the name, I know, but you'd have to guess as a user that it was used in the file creation). I checked the manpage for rm, but there's no metion of the inode number. Doing rm inodenumber doesn't work either. What is the command for this?

    Hello I have a problem with maildrop. I have read dozens of webs/howto/emails but couldnt solve it. My objective is moving automatically spam messages to a spam folder. My email server is working perfectly. It marks spam in subject and headers using spamassasin. My box has: Ubuntu 9.04 Web: Apache2 + Php5 + MySQL MTA: Postfix 2.5.5 + SpamAssasin + virtual users using mysql IMAP: Courier 0.61.2 + Courier AuthLib WebMail: SquirrelMail I have read that I could use Squirrelmail directly (not a good idea), procmail or maildrop. As I already have maildrop in the box (from courier) I have configured the server to use maildrop (added an entry in transport table for a virtual domain).     I installed a solid state drive on my laptop, but I don't get the blazing speeds which people write about. My system: Laptop: Acer Aspire 7552G-6061 Solid state drive: Crucial 256GB M4 CT256M4SSD2 Operating system: Linux (Trisquel 5.5, a derivative of Ubuntu) I am using AHCI. I installed the operating system onto the solid state drive (as opposed to copying it). How can I make the solid state drive faster? Could the problem be with the block or sector alignment?

    The thing is that flash sucks for linux on 64-bit, performance vice. Due to this I actually download every clip to a temp folder and play the file while it's being downloaded with mplayer. This works really nice. Flash is not to play a video. Does there exist a plugin for this for any browser? I tried google, but I can't find the right words to search for.

Radomly because the performance can be very great, but after the next reboot or login become very poor. After another reboot or login, this might change again to better or worse.   • Linux-Mint Maya Mate loses Alt-F1 menu and Alt-F2 run-dialog with Compiz

    I like the Linux-Mint 13 Mate Alt-F1 menu and the Alt-F2 run-dialog, but as soon as I installed Compiz those keys became non-functional. Conpiz has a Gnome compaatibility settings panel which allows you to set these keys, but using that Compix settings panel did not make any diference (probably because Mate is not Gnome, strictly speaking)... Is there some way to get those two shortcut keys back into acton with Compiz?

    Hi! Is there a possibility to use a flash drive as a speed up for conventional hard disks? I got the idea to redirect all read ops to the flash drive if the data is already stored there, and to read from the conventional disks if the data is not found there (and during idle time the freshly accessed data from the conventional disk is stored on the flash disk). Is this already possible with linux standard tools?
