• A Year of Upheaval for Procurement Professionals-New Report & Webinar

  2013 will see significant changes in priorities and initiatives among procurement professionals as they balance the needs of their enterprises with efforts to add capabilities for long-term procurement success. In response, procurement managers will expand their organization’s spend influence via supplier relationship management, sourcing, and category management. These findings are part of the new report, “2013 Procurement Key Issues: Going Deeper and Broader to Deliver Borderless Procurement Services,” by the Hackett Group. The authors say that compared to similar studies over the last five years, 2013 is registering the greatest year-over-year changes in priorities for both procurement performance and capability issues. Three Important PrioritiesThe survey found that procurement professionals are focusing their attention in three key areas. Cost reduction. Controlling expenses is always a high priority, but with 90 percent of the respondents now placing this at the top of their performance concerns, the Hackett analysts say this “clearly shows that, for better or worse, cost reduction is king” in 2013. Technology innovation. Innovation has shot up significantly in the priority rankings and is now tied with spend influence for second among procurement professionals. Sixty-five percent of the survey participants said pursuing game-changing innovation and technology is a top procurement initiative. Managing supply risk. This area registered a sharp rise in importance because of its role in protecting profits, Hackett says. • URL structure for content that is updated daily

  A small, simple site I am working on displays a single page with the day's best offers on it. The user is able to move back and forth between previous days. Which of the following URL structures works best? Structure 1 /index.html -- today's best offers /2013-06-29.html -- yesterday's best offers, etc. Structure 2 /index.html -- 302 redirects to /2013-06-30.html (or whatever today is) /2013-06-30.html -- today's best offers /2013-06-29.html -- yesterday's best offers, etc. I quite like structure 2 from the user's point of view (they can share content easily), but I am a bit concerned about updating the redirect from /index.html every single day -- would this perhaps have unintended SEO consequences?

• RAID1: can't replace faulty spare (marked again as 'faulty spare' within seconds)

  I got a problem that I cannot solve: Our fileserver runs XUbuntu and 3 RAID1s. One has a problem since monday: it consists of sdb and sdc. sdb was marked as faulty by mdadm for unknown reasons. I used --remove to remove it from the RAID and then to add it by --add. All was fine, re-syncing started but never got above 0% and after a few seconds, sdb was again marked as 'faulty spare' (and therefore the RAID degraded, but clean). So I saved the first 512 byte of the old sdb to a file, bought a new HDD of same size (4TB), shut down the computer and replaced sdb physically, switched the computer back on and wrote the 512 byte back to the new drive to have the same partition info as the old drive (both are the same type, from same company). But the new drive shows the same behaviour as the old: I can add, re-syncing starts and after a few seconds its marked as 'faulty spare'. • In an online questionnaire, what is a best way to design a database for keeping track of users all attempts?

  We have a web app where users can take online exams. Exam admin will create a questionnaire. A questionnaire can have many Questions. Each question is a multiple choice question (MCQ). Lets say an admin creates a questionnaire with 10 questions. Users attempt those questions. Now, unlike real exams users can attempt single questionnaire multiple times. And we have to keep track of his all attempts. e.g. User_id Questionnaire_id question_id answer attempt_date attempt_no 1 1 1 a 1 June 2013 1 1 1 2 b 1 June 2013 1 1 1 1 c 2 June 2013 2 1 1 2 d 2 June 2013 2 Now it can also happen that after user has attempted same questionnare twice, admin can delete a question from same questionnaire, but users attempt history should still have reference to that so that user can see his that question in his attempt history in spite of admin deleting that question. If user now attempts this changed questionnaire he should see only 1 question. User_id Questionnaire_id question_id answer attempt_date attempt_no 1 1 1 a 3 June 2013 3 Also, after this user modified some part of question, users attempt history should show question before modification while any new attempt should show modified question. How do we manage this at the database level? My first gut feeling was that, For deletes, do not do physical delete, just make a question inactive so that history can still keep track of users attempt. For modifications, create versions for questions and each new attempt refres to latest version of each question and history keeping reference to version of question at attempt time.

  I created a rule for a contact group/distribution list in order to move emails to a certain folder. It works without any problems. Let's call this group 'distgroup'. However, for some emails that comes to the group email(distgroup), 'To' and 'From' fields are same as 'From'. Normally 'To' field is supposed to be 'distrgroup'. Because of this, when I cannot run the same rule for this type of emails since group email address is not written in either 'To' or 'From'. It doesn't move that emails to my certain folder. Is there any solutions about it?

  I have a program that opens with a specific shortcut, but the shortcut seems to send parameters to the application. If I go directly to the target directory and double-click, it does not work. However, if I use the command line and pass in a certain argument, the application opens correctly. I want to open certain file types using the application, but the application must have the parameters, or it will not work. Is it possible to do this sort of thing?

  I'm developing an application which will list members who have not paid their any previous month's fee and a separate list for those who have paid the fee. So, lets say a member who will be paying fee through out the year, each month and if he didn't pay fee for march 2013 then app should highlight him as un-paid member. What would be best practice to achieve it. Adding fee invoices for whole year already in database when member is added then loop through his payments to check if fee is paid or not, or add a validation date for member on his each payment, for example payment made in Feb 2013 then member is valid till 28.02.2013. Check if date today is 28.02.2013 then he has not paid..

• Excel 2013: VLookup for cells that share common characters within cell but are both surrounded by other non-matching text

  I am pulling information from 2 different databases. The databases use different naming protocol for the exact same item/specified placement however they always have certain components of the name in common. The length of these names can vary throughout each of the databases (see the pic below) so I don't think counting characters would help. I need a formula (probably a vlookup/match/index of some sort) to pair up the names from the 2nd database name with the 1st database name and then place it in the adjacent column(B2) on sheet1. Until this point I've had to match, copy, and paste the pairs manually from one sheet to the other and it takes FOREVER. Any help would be much appreciated!!! For example: Database1 Name in Sheet1,A2: 728x90_Allstate_629930_ALL_JUL_2013_MASSACHUSETTSAUTO_BAN_MSN_ROSMSNAUTOSMASSACHUSETTS_7.2.13 Database2 Name in Sheet2, A13: BAN_MSN_ROSMSNAUTOSMASSACHUSETTS728X90_728X90_DFA Common Factors: "ROSMSNAUTOSMASSACHUSETTS" & "728X90" Therefore A2 and A13 need to pair up In some cases, Database 1 and 2 will have a common name aspect but sizing will be different. They need to have BOTH aspects in common in order to be paired so I would NOT want the below example to pair up. Database1 Name in Sheet1,A2: 728x90_Allstate_629930_ALL_JUL_2013_MASSACHUSETTSAUTO_BAN_MSN_ROSMSNAUTOSMASSACHUSETTS_7.2.13 Database2 Name in Sheet2, A12: BAN_MSN_ROSMSNAUTOSMASSACHUSETTS300X250_300X250_DFA Common Factor: Only "ROSMSNAUTOSMASSACHUSETTS" matches. "728x90" is not equal to "300X250" - Sizing is different so they should not be paired.

What I already have in place are the following: (1) Code to convert image to byte array (2) Code to generate PDF file with image The main problem that I am running into is the following: In order to bypass the pop-up blocker, which is a requirement for my application, I am using the following code: var button = new NavigationButton(); button.NavigateUri = new Uri("http://localhost:3616/PrintReport.aspx?ReportIndex=11&ActionType=Get&ReportIdentifier=" + reportIdentifier.ToString() + ""); button.TargetName = "_blank"; button.PerformClick(); Initially, I would pass the image to a WCF web service (as a byte array), and then "navigate" to the ASP.NET page that would display the report. However, if I do this, then I can not use my custom HyperlinkButton class, and, certain browsers, including Safari, will block a new window from opening up. Therefore, it appears that the only option is to use the HyperlinkButton class. What I need to be able to do is to somehow pass the image, as a byte array or some other data type, to the server, such that it can temporarily store the image, even if it is in a server variable, and then immediately retrieve it when I navigate to the PrintReport.aspx page. If I upload the image to an ASP.NET form and then use the HyperlinkButton class to navigate to the PrintReport page, it doesn't work, as the app navigates to the PrintReport page before the system has finished uploading the image. I can't pass it to a web service, as that would require that I navigate to the PrintReport.aspx page in the callback code of the web method that I would be passing the image to, and the HyperlinkButton will not allow that, based on security rules. • How to create a semi transparent window in WPF that allows mouse events to pass through

  I am trying to create an effect similar to the Lights out /lights dim feature in Adobe Lightroom (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87hNd3vaENE) except in WPF. What I tried was to create another window over-top of my existing window, make it transparent and put a semi transparent Path geometry on it. But I want mouse events to be able to pass through this semi transparent window (on to windows below). This is a simplified version of what I have: <Window x:Class="LightsOut.MaskWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" AllowsTransparency="True" WindowStyle="None" ShowInTaskbar="False" Topmost="True" Background="Transparent"> <Grid> <Button HorizontalAlignment="Left" Height="20" Width="60">click</Button> <Path IsHitTestVisible="False" Stroke="Black" Fill="Black" Opacity="0.3"> <Path.Data> <RectangleGeometry Rect="0,0,1000,1000 "/> </Path.Data> </Path> </Grid> The window is fully transparent, so on places where the Path doesn't cover, mouse events pass right through. So far so good. The IsHitTestvisible is set to false on the path object. So mouse events will pass through it to other controls on the same form (ie you can click on the Button, because it is on the same form). But mouse events wont pass through the Path object onto windows that are below it. Any ideas? Or better ways to solve this problem? Thanks.

  Hi, I've been looking for some time now.. Is is possible to pass easing function as variable in AS3? eg. TweenLite.to(mcDelimiter, resizeTween, { x:(stageWidthHalf-(initStageWidthHalf-mcDelimiteri_X)), ease:Elastic.easeOut } ); TweenLite.to(mcBody, resizeTween, { x:(stageWidthHalf-(initStageWidthHalf-mcBody_X)), ease:Elastic.easeOut } ); ... now if I at some point want to change "Elastic.easeOut" to something else I would have to change it at multiple parts of the code.. Can it be done so I just pass it as a variable and then if I want to change it, do it only on one place? EDIT: ...also, can for eg. if(currentFrame == "FrameLabel") somehow be done? ..meaning, can I pass the currentFrame label name as a variable? Thanks in advance for anwsers, Andrej
