  • Dates set according to location not chosen language

    - by aspersieman
    I recently installed Ubuntu 13.10 chose my location as Thailand/Bangkok, keyboard layout and language as South African English. Everything seems to be set up correctly except wherever a date is displayed it is displayed in Thai, instead of English. This is most noticeable in the clock indicator (see images included for what I mean). How can I change my dates to English (South African locale if possible).

  • Is it unusual for a small company (15 developers) not to use managed source/version control?

    - by LordScree
    It's not really a technical question, but there are several other questions here about source control and best practice. The company I work for (which will remain anonymous) uses a network share to host its source code and released code. It's the responsibility of the developer or manager to manually move source code to the correct folder depending on whether it's been released and what version it is and stuff. We have various spreadsheets dotted around where we record file names and versions and what's changed, and some teams also put details of different versions at the top of each file. Each team (2-3 teams) seems to do this differently within the company. As you can imagine, it's an organised mess - organised, because the "right people" know where their stuff is, but a mess because it's all different and it relies on people remembering what to do at any one time. One good thing is that everything is backed up on a nightly basis and kept indefinitely, so if mistakes are made, snapshots can be recovered. I've been trying to push for some kind of managed source control for a while, but I can't seem to get enough support for it within the company. My main arguments are: We're currently vulnerable; at any point someone could forget to do one of the many release actions we have to do, which could mean whole versions are not stored correctly. It could take hours or even days to piece a version back together if necessary We're developing new features along with bug fixes, and often have to delay the release of one or the other because some work has not been completed yet. We also have to force customers to take versions that include new features even if they just want a bug fix, because there's only really one version we're all working on We're experiencing problems with Visual Studio because multiple developers are using the same projects at the same time (not the same files, but it's still causing problems) There are only 15 developers, but we all do stuff differently; wouldn't it be better to have a standard company-wide approach we all have to follow? My questions are: Is it normal for a group of this size not to have source control? I have so far been given only vague reasons for not having source control - what reasons would you suggest could be valid for not implementing source control, given the information above? Are there any more reasons for source control that I could add to my arsenal? I'm asking mainly to get a feel for why I have had so much resistance, so please answer honestly. I'll give the answer to the person I believe has taken the most balanced approach and has answered all three questions. Thanks in advance

  • Consecutive absences in MySQL

    - by pepersview
    Hi, I have 2 tables in my db: students and absences. In students: id_student, s_name; and in absences: id_student, date, day(the day of the week as number-it's not so important); I would like to get the students that were absent for more than 2 days consecutive and the dates. At the moment I have the next query: /*To control when the days are in the same week*/ SELECT id_student, date, dayname(date),date_add(date, INTERVAL 1 DAY) AS a, dayname(date_add(date, INTERVAL 1 DAY)) AS an, date_add(date, INTERVAL 2 DAY) AS b, dayname(date_add(date, INTERVAL 2 DAY)) AS bn FROM absences AS a WHERE id_student IN (SELECT id_student FROM absences WHERE id_student = a.id_student AND date = date_add(a.date, INTERVAL 1 DAY) ) AND id_student IN (SELECT id_student FROM absences WHERE id_student = a.id_student AND date = date_add(a.date,INTERVAL 2 DAY) ) UNION /*To control when the days jump to the next week*/ SELECT id_student, date, dayname(date),date_add(date, INTERVAL 3 DAY) AS a, dayname(date_add(date, INTERVAL 3 DAY)) AS an, date_add(date, INTERVAL 4 DAY) AS b, dayname(date_add(date, INTERVAL 4 DAY)) AS bn FROM absences AS a WHERE id_student IN (SELECT id_student FROM absences WHERE id_student = a.id_student AND date = date_add(a.date, INTERVAL 3 DAY) ) AND id_student IN (SELECT id_student FROM absences WHERE id_student = a.id_student AND date = date_add(a.date,INTERVAL 4 DAY) ) /* To avoid the case (Monday-Thursday-Friday) to be consider as consecutive days*/ AND WEEKDAY(date) !=0 Thanks

  • retrieve data based on date range using mysql ,php [on hold]

    I am working on WPF where I have two datepickers when I try to retrieve the information on date range it displays only one record on all dates(same record displaying multiple times eg : date chosen from 01/10/2013 - 3/10/2013) where I have 3 different records on each day but my output is the first record displayed 3 times with same date and time. function cpWhitelistStats() { $startDate = $_POST['startDate']; $startDateTime = "$startDate 00:00:00"; $endDate = $_POST['endDate']; $endDateTime = "$endDate 23:59:59"; $cpId = $_POST['id']; $cpName = etCommonCpNameById($cpId); print "<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Permitted Vehicle Summary</h2>"; print "<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">for $cpName</h2>"; $tmpDate = explode("/", $startDate); $startYear = $tmpDate[2]; $startMonth= $tmpDate[1]; $startDay = $tmpDate[0]; $tmpDate = explode("/", $endDate); $endYear = $tmpDate[2]; $endMonth= $tmpDate[1]; $endDay = $tmpDate[0]; $startDateTime = "$startYear-$startMonth-$startDay 00:00:00"; $endDateTime = "$endYear-$endMonth-$endDay 23:59:59"; $custId = $_SESSION['customerID']; $realCustomerId = $_SESSION['realCustomerId']; $maxVal = 0; if ($custId != "") { $conn = &newEtConn($custId); // Get the whitelist plates $staticWhitelistArray = etCommonMkWhitelist($conn, $cpId); array_shift($staticWhitelistArray); $startLoopDate = strtotime($startDateTime); $endLoopDate = strtotime($endDateTime); $oneDay = 60 * 60 * 24; // Get the entries $plateList = array_keys($staticWhitelistArray); $plate_lookup = implode('","', $plateList); $sql = "SELECT plate, entry_datetime, exit_datetime FROM stats WHERE plate IN (\"$plate_lookup\") AND entry_datetime > \"$startDateTime\" AND entry_datetime < \"$endDateTime\" AND carpark_id=\"$cpId\" "; $result = $conn->Execute($sql); if (!$result) { print $conn->ErrorMsg(); exit; } $rows = $result->fields; if ($rows != "") { unset($myArray); foreach($result as $values) { $plate = $values['plate']; $new_platelist[] = $plate; $inDateTime = $values['entry_datetime']; $outDateTime = $values['exit_datetime']; $tmp = explode(' ', $inDateTime); $inDate = $tmp[0]; $in_ts = strtotime($inDateTime); $out_ts = strtotime($outDateTime); $duration = $out_ts - $in_ts; $dur_array = intToDateArray($duration); $dur_string = ''; if ($dur_array['days'] > 0) { $dur_string .= $dur_array['days'] .   • Is this a bug in plist or Xcode?

    - by Pedro
    G'day All If you create a date item in the plist editor of Xcode or Apple's standalone plist editor you get something of the form <date>2010-05-29T10:30:00Z</date> which is a nice well formed ISO date at UTC (indicated by the "Z"). Because I'm in timezone UTC +10 when that's read into my app & then displayed I get 8:30 PM out, still good. However if that is a time in my timezone it should be <date>2010-05-29T10:30:00+10</date> (replacing "Z" with my timezone offset). All of my attempts at reading such dates into my iPhone app have had the plist rejected as if it is malformed & editing a plist with such a date in Apple's editors changed the "+10" to "Z" without adjusting the time. Do others think I'm correct in thinking this is a bug in either plist or Xcode? My feeling is that the implementation of ISO date & time in plist is incomplete. Cheers, Pedro :)

  • Calculate year for end date: PostgreSQL

    - by Dave Jarvis
    Background Users can pick dates as shown in the following screen shot: Any starting month/day and ending month/day combinations are valid, such as: Mar 22 to Jun 22 Dec 1 to Feb 28 The second combination is difficult (I call it the "tricky date scenario") because the year for the ending month/day is before the year for the starting month/day. That is to say, for the year 1900 (also shown selected in the screen shot above), the full dates would be: Dec 22, 1900 to Feb 28, 1901 Dec 22, 1901 to Feb 28, 1902 ... Dec 22, 2007 to Feb 28, 2008 Dec 22, 2008 to Feb 28, 2009 Problem Writing a SQL statement that selects values from a table with dates that fall between the start month/day and end month/day, regardless of how the start and end days are selected. In other words, this is a year wrapping problem. Inputs The query receives as parameters: Year1, Year2: The full range of years, independent of month/day combination. Month1, Day1: The starting day within the year to gather data. Month2, Day2: The ending day within the year (or the next year) to gather data. Previous Attempt Consider the following MySQL code (that worked): end_year = start_year + greatest( -1 * sign( datediff( date( concat_ws('-', year, end_month, end_day ) ), date( concat_ws('-', year, start_month, start_day ) ) ) ), 0 ) How it works, with respect to the tricky date scenario: Create two dates in the current year. The first date is Dec 22, 1900 and the second date is Feb 28, 1900. Count the difference, in days, between the two dates. If the result is negative, it means the year for the second date must be incremented by 1. In this case: Add 1 to the current year. Create a new end date: Feb 28, 1901. Check to see if the date range for the data falls between the start and calculated end date. If the result is positive, the dates have been provided in chronological order and nothing special needs to be done. This worked in MySQL because the difference in dates would be positive or negative. In PostgreSQL, the equivalent functionality always returns a positive number, regardless of their relative chronological order. Question How should the following (broken) code be rewritten for PostgreSQL to take into consideration the relative chronological order of the starting and ending month/day pairs (with respect to an annual temporal displacement)? SELECT m.amount FROM measurement m WHERE (extract(MONTH FROM m.taken) >= month1 AND extract(DAY FROM m.taken) >= day1) AND (extract(MONTH FROM m.taken) <= month2 AND extract(DAY FROM m.taken) <= day2) Any thoughts, comments, or questions? (The dates are pre-parsed into MM/DD format in PHP. My preference is for a pure PostgreSQL solution, but I am open to suggestions on what might make the problem simpler using PHP.) Versions PostgreSQL 8.4.4 and PHP 5.2.10

  • How do I get date form week, working also with 53-week years? c#

    - by Oskar Kjellin
    Hey, I have made a function to cound the weeks in a year, and that works fine. The problem is that I need a method to get the mondaydate of the week. This is a swedish calendar. The code below works well for years that have 52 weeks, but some years(like 2009) has 53 weeks. Then I got a date from januari as the mondaydate(cant be right). So please help me to get it to work for all years. What I probably could do is check if the year has 53 weeks and then do some checks but I'd like it to go smooth without special checks. Here's what I've come up with: public static DateTime GetDateFromWeek(int year, int week) { //First day of the year DateTime d = new DateTime(year, 1, 1); GregorianCalendar calendar = new GregorianCalendar(GregorianCalendarTypes.MiddleEastFrench); d = calendar.AddWeeks(d, week); d = d.AddDays(1 - (double)d.DayOfWeek); return d; }

  • How to break this string and sort on version number

    - by Sean P

  • Date arithmetic using integer values

    - by Dave Jarvis
    Problem String concatenation is slowing down a query: date(extract(YEAR FROM m.taken)||'-1-1') d1, date(extract(YEAR FROM m.taken)||'-1-31') d2 This is realized in code as part of a string, which follows (where the p_ variables are integers): date(extract(YEAR FROM m.taken)||''-'||p_month1||'-'||p_day1||''') d1, date(extract(YEAR FROM m.taken)||''-'||p_month2||'-'||p_day2||''') d2 This part of the query runs in 3.2 seconds with the dates, and 1.5 seconds without, leading me to believe there is ample room for improvement. Question What is a better way to create the date (presumably without concatenation)? Many thanks!

  • How to sanity check a date in java

    - by Bloodboiler
    I find it curious that the most obvious way to create Date objects in Java has been deprecated and appears to have been "substituted" with not so obvious to use lenient calendar. So... How do you check that a date given as a combination of day, month and year is a valid date? For instance a date 2008-02-31 (as in yyyy-mm-dd) would be invalid date.

  • How to read date from the form and calculate a timestamp

    - by Vafello
    I would like to calculate a timestamp based on the input date. I would like to calculate it from the user input (something like 12/12/2011) I guess I need a function that changes the format to something readable for php and then calculate timestamp for this date. Maybe I should use strtotime() function? Any ideas will be appreciated. $date = $_POST['date']; <input type="text" name="date" value="">

  • date representation in user interface

    - by Samuel
    Most of the sites capture the date (e.g. birth date) information as either a single entity (i.e via a calendar control) or instead as separate fields (date, month, year). Are there any benefits in showing them as separate fields? Are they represented in the database as DATE data type or as separate fields. I am just trying to understand the pros & cons of representing the date field.

  • How to return the date value from DatePickerDialog in Android?

    - by user1855222
    I am new to android . I ve created a Date picker in android using following guide .http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/controls/pickers.html public class DatePickerFragment extends DialogFragment implements DatePickerDialog.OnDateSetListener { StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); public static String date; @Override public Dialog onCreateDialog(Bundle savedInstanceState) { // Use the current date as the default date in the picker final Calendar c = Calendar.getInstance(); int year = c.get(Calendar.YEAR); int month = c.get(Calendar.MONTH); int day = c.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH); // Create a new instance of DatePickerDialog and return it return new DatePickerDialog(getActivity(), this, year, month, day); } public void onDateSet(DatePicker view, int year, int month, int day) { // Do something with the date chosen by the user sb.append(year); sb.append('-'); sb.append(month+1); sb.append('-'); sb.append(day); date = sb.toString(); System.out.println("The date is "+date); } I need to return this date value (date = sb.toString()) to my MainActivity . Since the onDateSet method is void what should I do ? Additional Information - DatePickerDialog Triggers at the MainActivity class ,But not with single button click . There are several processes happens in side a single button , Date picker will triggers only when certain condition is met . I do not want to display the date value either . Just want it returned for further processing. Appreciate any kind of guidance Changed onDataset method and justshow() public void onDateSet(DatePicker view, int year, int month, int day) { // Do something with the date chosen by the user sb.append(year); sb.append('-'); sb.append(month+1); sb.append('-'); sb.append(day); date = sb.toString(); MainActivity.newdate=sb.toString(); System.out.println("The date is "+MainActivity.newdate); } public void justShow(){ System.out.println("The date is "+MainActivity.newdate); } This is the relevant Part From Main(After making changes suggested in first reply ) DateToken mydate=new DateToken(); String test=dayvals.get(0); DialogFragment df=new DatePickerFragment(); if(test.equalsIgnoreCase("day")){ df.show(getSupportFragmentManager(), "DatePik"); } System.out.println("Date is on Main"+newdate); DatePickerFragment dpf=new DatePickerFragment(); dpf.justShow(); newdate is the static String , but still outputs null. In both MainActivity and justShow methods . But in onDataSet method date outputs correctly

  • Extend Javascript Date Object

    - by jAndy
    Hi Folks, I'm curious what would be the best practice to extend the Date constructor. The problem I'm facing is, that the Internet Explorer (< 7+8) can't parse a date like new Date('2010-05-11'); I have to admit that this is not a standard method to parse, anyways FireFox and Chrome perform well on that kind of date string. Now I'm wondering, should I just split/parse/rebuild the string before calling new Date() or is there a more elegant solution ?
