• How can I toggle Full Screen mode in Remote Desktop without a Break key?

  My small laptop has a small keyboard, which lacks a Pause/Break key. Ctrl-Alt-Break toggles Full Screen mode in Windows Remote Desktop. Without a Break key, how can I enter Full Screen mode? I know I can exit fullscreen mode with the mouse. Maximizing the window doesn't help. This matters more on small laptops because the screens are small (so you need all the real estate you can get) and because the keyboard lacks dedicated PgUp/PgDn and other dedicated keys (so I can't easily use the RDP alternatives like Alt-PgUp).

  Is there something where I can see and control single(!) windows of PC1 on PC2 remotely. Basically like it is possible with X-Windows. I am not talking / asking about A software which displays the whole desktop remotely (like VNC, Windows RDP). A X-windows server for windows, to connect to Linux. The answer here ( Windows Remote Desktop Connection for just a single window (or a single program) ) requires Windows Server 2008. I need to run this on two Windows 7 machines. Example: PC1 shows three windows, and I transfer, see, and control window 2 on PC2. -- Edit -- I have checked whether there is an X-Server for Windows <- Windows.   Is there a remote desktop app for the Mac that allows multiple people to be remoted in at the same time, similar to RDP in Windows? I've used VNC, but that only allows one person to control the computer. For some background: I'd like to set up a mac that many users can RDP into from PC's to do XCode development. I did some searching and didn't find anything, so I'm assuming it's just not possible, but I want to confirm. Thanks.   I'm setting up a new terminal server for our users on Win2008R2 (I guess I should call it Remote Desktop Services now!) When I try to change the location of "Documents" (by removing the default Documents library and adding a new one), to use the file server ie \\fileserver\username\Documents I get the message: "This network location can't be included because it is not indexed" I certainly don't want to make folders available offline, and in fact, I have set the GPO to prohibit offline folders on the terminal servers. What is the best practice for document libraries on terminal server and network file shares?

• Remote desktop into a linux machine, is this possible?

  I have a VPS by my host running on a linux server, and they have given me SSH access. Is it possible to remote desktop into the server, like you can on Windows, so that I can physcially click on things rather than having to use SSH commands? Surely this must be running on Fedora or Ubuntu etc. so there is some type of OS. You would probably have to install something on the servers end I suppose but just want to know if its possible and what the options are. And before you say "why not ask your host" I find superuser responses are usually much quicker :-)

  The setup: Ubuntu with local Vmware Workstation 10 (everything works locally) Connects(File- Connect to Server) Debian server with the same Vmware Workstation 10 (Windows XP Guest) Debian setup does not allow raw disk access nor shared folders (most options does not exist) No shared folder No physical disk option I use root user for this machine. Default install. I've tried to add shared folder from command line - it does not work. How to enable shared folders or raw disk access? I have created new Windows 8 64 bit template from scratch - I cannot use physical HDD either, and no SharedFolder option. I think this is something about security policy of remote server.

• How to tunnel a local port onto a remote server

  I have a domain that i bought from DynDNS. I pointed the domain at my ip adress so i can run servers. The problem I have is that I don't live near the server computer... Can I use an ssh tunnel? As I understand it, this will let me access to my servers. I want the remote computer to direct traffic from port 8080 over the ssh tunnel to the ssh client, being my laptop's port 80. Is this possible? • Error installing Sony Remote Play

  I'm trying to install Remote Play software to connect my laptop to my PS3. I've found a guide with instructions which seem to be in fairly wide use (found similar walk-throughs on numerous other sites), for running the software on a non-Vaio PC. Tech-Recipies: Playstation 3 – Use Remote Play on any Windows 7 PC The setup essentially goes like this: Download Remote Play software. Download patch by NTAuthority. Install Remote Play as normal. Reboot. Extract NTAuthority patch to Remote Play program folder. Manually register patched DLLs via CLI. Run Remote Play software. Sadly, my problem is early in - Step 3. I had to use Google to find the software download, as the link from Tech-Recipies seems broken. I found the download on Sony's site here: Sony eSupport: Remote Play with PlayStation®3 After downloading and running the software, I hit "Next" at the welcome screen and "I Agree" at the EULA screen. After this, a popup informs me that Setup is checking my computer's information. Then, Setup terminates with this error: I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Is anyone familiar with this error in this software? Is there a way to work around it? Did I perhaps pick the wrong download from Sony's site?

Here's an interesting piece from David Linthicum on eBizq: In the world of SOA, the concept of SOA governance is getting a lot of attention. However, how SOA governance is defined and implemented really depends on the SOA governance vendor who just left the building within most enterprises. Indeed, confusion is a huge issue when considering SOA governance, and the core issues are more about the fundamentals of people and processes, and not about the technology. SOA governance is a concept used for activities related to exercising control over services in an SOA, including tracking the services, monitoring the service, and controlling changes made to the services, simple put. The trouble comes in when SOA governance vendors attempt to define SOA governance around their technology, all with different approaches to SOA governance. Thus, it's important that those building SOAs within the enterprise take a step back and understand what really need to support the concept of SOA governance. The value of SOA governance is pretty simple. Since services make up the foundation of an SOA, and are at their essence the behavior and information from existing systems externalized, it's critical to make sure that those accessing, creating, and changing services do so using a well controlled and orderly mechanism. Those of you, who already have governance in place, typically around enterprise architecture efforts, will be happy to know that SOA governance does not replace those processes, but becomes a mechanism within the larger enterprise governance concept. People and processes are first thing on the list to get under control before you begin to toss technology at this problem. This means establishing an understanding of SOA governance within the team members, including why it's important, who's involved, and the core processes that are to be follow to make SOA governance work. • Connecting to server from remote machine

  I wish to connect my machine to a server in some other city. For doing the same I am using the following command: mstsc -v ip_address_of_server remote desktop can't connect to remote computer for one of these reasons: 1) Remote access to server is not enabled. 2) Remote computer is turned off 3) Remote computer is not available on network. Make sure remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled. As per previous posts I need to turn off my client computers firewall..which I have...but still it gives me the same message. Can someone please please help me out...so as to how i may resolve this?? I am really new to networking, etc. Also when i am pinging: ping ip_address_of server I am getting the following response: Reply from ip_address_of_server: destination host unreachable Also I did try on ubuntu with rdesktop...still its not been able to connect with it. Also i know there are other people who are able to connect their machines with the server remotely. So i guess its not working for me only. Also when I accessed the same machine through LAN I was able to do so.

Is it possible to use ubuntu as media server to stream files without making the remote end to use there own resource. I want only bandwidth of Wi-Fi to be use in this and media center hardware resource.Remote end gadget should use only speaker and screen and not processing power of their own. Please any suggestion is it possible to do so ?

  There is a CONFIG_ATH_USER_REGD variable in OpenWrt that allows the user to override the default settings of the wireless NIC. Unfortunately grepping the Arch kernel config doesn't seem to have that, and since OpenWrt has its fair share of hacking and patches, I don't know if that's something they added or that's provided e.g. in compat-wireless. Does this setting exists for Ubuntu or BackTrack-Linux?

  Is there a way to enter the default keyring password using the command line? For instance: You have a remote setup of Ubuntu 10.10 thats set to auto login. You don't want to remove the keyring password. All right the system boots up and logs in automatically, then asks for the keyring password now at this point you can create ssh connections but you can't remote desktop. What can you do to enter the keyring password at this point? Also, to better clarify, this is from a remote connection using the command line.

• Powershell Get-Process cannot connect to remote computer

  I've been struggling with this for a few hours and can't figure this out. I have two Windows 7 computers. One is my workstation that is using Powershell to do administrative maintenance. The other is the machine I'd like to use Powershell remoting on to execute remote Powershell cmdlets on. On both computers, I've enabled Powershell remoting and added all computers to TrustedHosts with the * value. On the remote computer, I've started the Remote registry service and ensured that the DCOM, Winmgmt and the Winrm services are running. Firewall is disabled on remote machine too. The cmdlet I try to run is: Get-Process -ComputerName $name Where $name is the name of the remote machine. I keep getting an error saying that it could not connect to the remote PC. I've also tried using the IP and I get the same error. These PCs are not in a domain. I am able to do the following successfully: Invoke-Command {get-Process} -ComputerName $name -Credential $creds Where $name is the machine name and $creds is the user name and password for the remote computer's local Admin account. This gives me the same output I would expect. While this is an acceptable workaround, I am curious, why doesn't using get-process with remoting work as it should? I've seen a few articles on the web suggesting people have had success with it on its own. Each time I am using Powershell on my workstation with elevated privileges. Any ideas?

• How can I attach multiple urls to a single git remote?

  I'm currently using git on windows through a combination of msysgit and Cygwin. I have a laptop which I move around quite a bit, so it's not on a consistent location. Unfortunately, I don't have a consistent name for it due to the computer name not being resolved on all of the locations I connect to, so I can't just use the computer name as the host for the url (e.g. git://compname/repo), so I have to use the IP address. Is there a way I can add multiple urls to pull from for a particular remote? I've seen git remote set-url --add [--push] <name> <newurl> as a way to add multiple URLs to a remote, and I can see the updates in the .git/config file, but git only tries to use the first one. Is there a way to get git to try to use all of the urls? I've tried both git fetch and git remote update, but neither tries anything after the first url. Note that I haven't tried this on linux yet, and I can't fix the computer name resolution as this is at work. Thanks

• jQuery validation plugin: valid() does not work with remote validation ?

  I got started by following this awesome tutorial, but wanted to do the validation on on keyup and place my errors somewhere else. The remote validation shows its own error message at the appropriate times, making me think I had it working. But if I ask specifically if a field with remote validation is valid, it says no, actually, its not. • How do I stop panning on a monitor that supports a specific resolution?

  Hi all, I've been battling this for a few days now. Any and all help is appreciated. I have a planar monitor with a native res of 1280x1024. At one point, I had used PowerStrip to override "something" and set the res to 1600x1200, and it worked great. I then installed new intel graphics drivers for my 86895g (or w/e model) video card, which screwed up whatever settings I had. If I set it to 1600x1200 this time, it would set the res correctly, but give me a 1280x1024 viewport and the screen would pan when the mouse got to the edges of the screen. Absolutely not useful. Ok, so I was limited to 1280x1024 now. W/e. Now...enter new video card with two video ports. I have two monitors now and the latest nVidia drivers. I decide to try to get dual 1600x1200 going...ended up screwing the original monitor up so much now that it's at 1280x1024, with a 1024x768 viewport and panning! Absolutely not usable now. So what I need, and I can't seem to find on any forums, is help doing one or more of the following: Clearing out all monitor/edid info out of the windows registry without corrupting the registry. Actually correctly override the EDID values and get my sweet res back. Some other way of getting back to at least dual 1280x1024 with NO panning. Note: My device manager shows 4 monitors for some reason. My registry shows entries for all sorts of monitors that have been hooked up to the machine over the years. It's making it difficult to debug. Experience with PowerStrip would be helpful. I've been mucking with Phoenix EDID designer and MonInfo as well, but I'm stumbling around in the dark with these. • How to force a login for an administrator when using Remote Desktop Connection and fast user switching enabled?

  Scenario: I am at work. I want to remote desktop into my machine at home. Problem is, my 5-year-old daughter is playing games on Starfall.com (or something similar) on her (non-admin) account. When I attempt to connect I see this message: Another user is currently logged on to this computer. If you continue, this user has to disconnect from this computer. Do you want to continue? I click Yes and then see Please wait for 'UserName' to respond This presents my daughter with an Allow/Disallow dialog on whether to let me connect. She clicks Disallow (or No or whatever it says) and then I see 'UserName' has denied your request Question: How can I force my account to log in and disconnect her session? Additional Info: My account is an administrator account. My daughter's account is a non-administrator account. Home machine is Windows 7 Pro with fast user switching enabled. Turning off fast user switching is not an option (Kyle pointed out in his answer that turning it off would allow the admin to force another user off). I would keep fast user switching's ability to change accounts without closing the previous account's session over being able to force myself to connect.

• How do I improve my screen resolution in Windows Remote Desktop?

  I'm RDP'ing into a Win2K3 machine from a WinXP machine, and I cannot stand the low screen resolution I get on the Win2K3 box. Text is too large and the graphics/colors aren't very smooth. How do I improve this? If I right-click on the desktop of the remote machine and go to Properties - Settings, I see that the screen resolution is set to 1280x1024 (should be okay, I would think), and the color quality is Medium (16 bit) (not optimal) and I don't have the option to change either setting (because they're set in the .rdp file for the session, right?). If I move over to the Appearance tab, I see that font size is set to Normal, with no option to make it smaller. The thing is, these settings are close to what I have on the XP machine I'm RDP'ing in from. The only difference (in those settings) is the color quality, which is 32 bit. Any ideas on how I can improve the situation? Other tidbits: The graphics card on the Win2K3 machine is ATI ES1000. I think I have the latest drivers for it. I'm running VMware Workstation on the Win2K3 machine, and if I create a Win2K3 VM and RDP into it from the XP machine, the resolution is just fine.

• Wake on Lan Remote not waking PC while the PC does receive the packet.

  Over the last couple of weeks, I have been trying to set up WOL from a remote location. When I use my laptop to wake the machine locally, it works just fine. (for some reason, when I try to wake from my phone with an app called "WOL wake on lan" it does not work locally either, but I'll get to that later) Anyway, when the machine is turned on, and I let it 'listen' for incoming magic packets (with a program called "WOL magic packet sender") on my specified port, it does receive them, though when turned off, the machine does not wake. When sending from phone, either locally or via 3G remotely, it does receive but does not wake as well. Because the machine does receive them when turned on and listening, but does not wake when turned off, I am convinced the cause of the problem is my receiving PC, rather than the router or the sender. Some extra info: The receiving machine is a PC running Windows 7 64bit. My router is the Netgear JWNR2000v2. I have the port I use forwarded to my PC's static IP in the router. If anyone could help, or just share your own story with the same problem, maybe we can work this out. Thanks a lot in advance.
