One of my client’s requirements is to migrate and consolidate his company departments’ databases to SQL Server 2008. As I know the environment, they are using MySQL , MS-Access and SQL Server with different applications. Now the company has decided to have a single dedicated SQL Server 2008 database server to host all the applications. nfs mountpoint named ``share'' breaks ls and man

I mounted a nfs server to ~/share. This works fine as long as I'm at home, where the nfs share is in reach. Whenver I'm not, this seems to break access to all manpages. Using man (or ls in my homedir) waits forever. Checking with strace reveals that they try to access the folder called share. Unmounting fails too. Even with -l (lazy) and -f (force). I am asking for three things here: Is ``share'' a magic name? Does something like MANPATH exist, which I should avoid? How do I unmount without rebooting? (I already commented the share out in fstab) What would you suggest me to do, to have network/position based mounting of NFS shares?

How do I move my LVM 250 GB root partition to a new 120GB hard disk?

I have the following situation: My current Ubuntu installation is running from an external HDD (250 GB) because I was to lazy to buy an new internal hdd. Now i've got a new internal (120GB) and i want to move everything to the internal. Installing Ubuntu new is out of disscussion because its to peronalized. Luckily (i hope so) the root partition is partitioned with LVM, so i hope i can move the partition to the smaller internal HDD. Is this possible? And where do i find help?

Can you disavow a whole domain apart from the index page?

Many years ago I may have bought a few sitewide links for some of my sites, these have now come back to haunt me and I need to sort them out. I've tried to contact the owners but they're too lazy to bother changing the sites so I figure it's time to disavow the links. But is there a way to disavow all of the sitewide links on the domain apart from on the index page and would this be a benefit to leave the index or would it still be seen as spammy? Using INSERT / OUTPUT in a SQL Server Transaction

In some games, we just let the main() loop be the Player object or Table object?

I was thinking that let's say if there is a game of Blackjack or MasterMind, then we should have a class called Dealer or ComputerPal, which is how the computer interact with us (as a dealer for Blackjack or as the person giving hints for MasterMind). And then there should be a Player object, and the way to play one game is aPlayer.playGame but I noticed that a book was just using the main() loop to act as the player (or as the Controller of the game), calling the Dealer methods to dealer the cards, ask for player's action, etc... 1) Is this just a lazy way to model all the proper objects? 2) If more objects are to be added, who should call the aDealer.dealCards and then ask for aPlayer.askForAction? (because it is strange to let the Player handle all the logical steps). Should there be a Table object that handle all these logic and then to play one round of game, use aTable.playGame? What is a good object design for such game?

Best C++ Portable time library for game development

I'm venturing into the dark world of portable development and I'm looking for a nice library to keep track of system time for all game events. So far I've turned to trust boost and found: This boost library But I'm wondering if it there are some alternatives. I use boost a lot and (while I like it) I find that it sometimes takes me longer to figure out how to use the generic code than to write my own...not-so-generic code. (Ya, ya...I know.
