• Using 'load' in octave

  Is there a way to tell the load function to only load until a certain line? I want to read in a data file and assign the numbers to an array, however, I want it to stop after it has created a 200 X 200. Could I also do this with a do-while loop and fgetl? When I try to use fgetl(fid, len) and give it 'len', it does not obey :-/ How can I tell octave to ignore the comment lines in an input file? They are '#' characters, so I figured octave would just automatically ignore them, but not so... Thanks.

So I am binding the datacontext of a listbox to an array of LedgerObject, and I want to bind the textblock control defined inside a listboxitem template to the property of a ChargeLine. • [OpenGL] I'm having an issue to use GLshort for representing Vertex, and Normal.

  As my project gets close to optimization stage, I notice that reducing Vertex Metadata could vastly improve the performance of 3D rendering. Eventually, I've dearly searched around and have found following advices from stackoverflow. Using GL_SHORT instead of GL_FLOAT in an OpenGL ES vertex array How do you represent a normal or texture coordinate using GLshorts? Advice on speeding up OpenGL ES 1.1 on the iPhone Simple experiments show that switching from "FLOAT" to "SHORT" for vertex and normal isn't tough, but what troubles me is when you're to scale back verticies to their original size (with glScalef), normals are multiplied by the reciprocal of the scale. Then how do you use "short" for both vertex and normal at the same time? I've been trying this and that for about a full day, but I could only go for "float vertex w/ byte normal" or "short vertex w/ float normal" so far. Your help would be truly appreciated.

• Binding Many-to-Many Core Data relationships in UI

  Basically my setup is this. I have a many-to-many relationship in Core Data where a student entity can have multiple courses, and a course entity can have multiple students. My problem is in trying to figure out how to bind this relationship to the UI in Interface Builder. I want to be able to add courses to a course array controller, then have those courses displayed in a popup menu in a NSTableView in the Edit Student window where you can add courses to a student.   I have wrote an application that syncs two folders together. The problem with the program is that it stops responding whilst copying files. A quick search of stack-overflow told me I need to use something called a background worker. I have read a few pages on the net about this but find it really hard to understand as I'm pretty new to programming. Below is the code for my application - how can I simply put all of the File.Copy(....) commands into their own background worker (if that's even how it works)? Below is the code for the button click event that runs the sub procedure and the sub procedure I wish to use a background worker on all the File.Copy lines. • PHP set timeout for script, set_time_limit not working

  I have a command-line PHP script that runs a wget request using each member of an array with foreach. This wget request can sometimes take a long time so I want to be able to set a timeout for killing the script if it goes past 15 seconds for example. I have PHP safemode disabled and tried set_time_limit(15) early in the script, however it continues indefinitely. I've given up troubleshooting set_time_limit() and was trying to find other ways to kill the script after 15 seconds of execution. However, I'm not sure if it's possible to check the time a script has been running while it's in the middle of a wget request at the same time (a do while loop did not work). Thanks for any tips!

  Hello, Im followed the tutorial from here: Twitter Client Tutorial to make a little twitter app. Now I need to find out how to parse the XML twitter gives you when you make a request. I've looked at tons of tutorials on phrasing xml on the iPhone but none have made much sense because Im still new to cocoa. Twitter stores the text of the tweet in something like this <text> Some tweet here </text>. From reading the tutorials I think this would involve nsxmlparser but I'm not sure. • How can I loop through variables in SPSS? I want to avoid code duplication.

  Is there a "native" SPSS way to loop through some variable names? All I want to do is take a list of variables (that I define) and run the same procedure for them: pseudo-code - not really a good example, but gets the point across... for i in varlist['a','b','c'] do FREQUENCIES VARIABLES=varlist[i] / ORDER=ANALYSIS. end I've noticed that people seem to just use R or Python SPSS plugins to achieve this basic array functionality, but I don't know how soon I can get those configured (if ever) on my installation of SPSS. SPSS has to have some native way to do this...right?

The code block if (!@line) is never being executed. If I change that to be if (@line) than the code block is executed. I've read information on the perl split function over at http://perldoc.perl.org/functions/split.html and the discussion here about testing for an empty array but not sure what is going on here. I am new to Perl so am probably missing something straightforward here. Thanks.

• Do i *have* to use ObservableCollection in Silverlight WCF client?

  When accessing Silverlight in WCF you get proxies generated with ObservableCollection Thats fine when you're databinding, but a little clumsy when you're just calling a method. For instance the following service method : [OperationContract] public SearchOrdersMsgOut SearchOrders(ShippingStatusType[] shippingStatuses, string[] orderId) { } gets generated with ObservableCollection. What! They're just parameters. Why would I ever want to 'observe' them? I'm fine if I have to do this - but it seems like there should be a way to force simple array structures when I know I'm never databinding - especially on input messages. I'd much rather do this : searchCriteria.PaymentStatus = new [] { PaymentStatusType.PaymentFailed, PaymentStatusType.Unpaid }; than this : searchCriteria.PaymentStatus = new ObservableCollection<PaymentStatusType> { PaymentStatusType.PaymentFailed, PaymentStatusType.Unpaid }; Is there a way? PS. I do actually use a SearchCriteria object for my search criteria - but I simplified for this example wondering if parameters were handled differently.

• Advantage of using a static member function instead of an equivalent non-static member function?

  I was wondering whether there's any advantages to using a static member function when there is a non-static equivalent. Will it result in faster execution (because of not having to care about all of the member variables), or maybe less use of memory (because of not being included in all instances)? Basically, the function I'm looking at is an utility function to rotate an integer array representing pixel colours an arbitrary number of degrees around an arbitrary centre point. It is placed in my abstract Bullet base class, since only the bullets will be using it and I didn't want the overhead of calling it in some utility class. It's a bit too long and used in every single derived bullet class, making it probably not a good idea to inline. How would you suggest I define this function? As a static member function of Bullet, of a non-static member function of Bullet, or maybe not as a member of Bullet but defined outside of the class in Bullet.h? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

• Why is a fixed size buffers (arrays) must be unsafe?

  Let's say I want to have a value type of 7 bytes (or 3 or 777). I can define it like that: public struct Buffer71 { public byte b0; public byte b1; public byte b2; public byte b3; public byte b4; public byte b5; public byte b6; } A simpler way to define it is using a fixed buffer public struct Buffer72 { public unsafe fixed byte bs[7]; } Of course the second definition is simpler. The problem lies with the unsafe keyword that must be provided for fixed buffers. I understand that this is implemented using pointers and hence unsafe. My question is why does it have to be unsafe? Why can't C# provide arbitrary constant length arrays and keep them as a value type instead of making it a C# reference type array or unsafe buffers?

• Paging doesn't work in the Joomla Article Manager in the admin section

  I inherited a Joomla site that is having a problem with the article manager in the admin section. The pagination doesn't work! If I click the page number, forward, back, or page size, nothing happens! So I found out that someone had previously installed the iJoomla SEO plugin, but it never worked so they removed it. I think it is incompatible with the version I have. I setup a local environment with almost the same setup (I have 5.2.11 vs the servers 5.2.13) with Wamp Server, and I found that some of the session variables are missing! When dumped via print_r(), the $_SESSION variable is missing the "com_content", "global", and "com_plugins" arrays! So I guess that is the reason that paging doesn't work, because the "com_content" array looks like it has paging info in it. (maybe I'm wrong) So I'm running Version 1.5.13 on PHP Version 5.2.13 Anyone know why this would happen? Thanks in advance!

However, I can't seem to find a way to build the ArrayList properly when I use this constructor. I have figured it out with an Array, but not an ArrayList. I have been messing with this to try to build my ArrayList: ArrayList people = new ArrayList(); people[0] = new Peoples("Bar", "Foo"); people[1] = new Peoples("Quirk", "Baz"); people[2] = new Peopls("Get", "Gad"); My indexing is apparently out of range according to the exception I get.

  I have the following Linq Expression var tooDeep = shoppers .Where(x => x.Cart.CartSuppliers.First().Name == "Supplier1") .ToList(); I need to turn the name part into the following string. x.Cart.CartSuppliers.Name As part of this I turned the Expression into a string and then split on the . and removed the First() argument. However, when I get to CartSuppliers this returns a Suppliers[] array. Is there a way to get the single type from this. eg. I need to get a Supplier back. Thanks

I need a way to provide a code-block which is executed on-demand/lazy/by-name inside an object and this code-block must be able to access the class-methods as if the code-block were part of the class.   Hi all, I want to be able to access properties from a json string within my java action method. The string is available by simply saying myJsonString = object.getJson(); Below is an example of what the string can look like: {'title': 'Computing and Information systems','id':1,'children': 'true','groups': [{'title': 'Level one CIS','id':2,'children': 'true','groups':[{'title': 'Intro To Computing and Internet','id':3,'children': 'false','groups':[]}]}]} In this string every json object contains an array of other json objects. The intention is to extract a list of id's where any given object possessing a group property that contains other json objects. I looked at google's Gson as a potential json plugin. Can anyone offer some form of guidance as to how I can generate java from this json string? Thank you, Kind regards.
