  • How do I tell whether my IE is 64-bit? (For that matter, Java too?)

    Millions of questions already on the web about how to tell whether the OS is 64-bit, but not whether IE and/or Java runtime is 64-bit. Some background: I installed 64-bit Win 7, and IE installed automatically with it from CD; I didn't download IE. I did download Java runtime. Mouseover tips in Control Panel!Programs shows it as: "Java 32-bit Java(TM) Control Panel" Then I went to http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp and that page says... We have detected you may be viewing this page in a 32-bit browser. If you use 32-bit and 64-bit browsers interchangeably, you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit Java in order to have the Java plug-in for both browsers. But I cannot tell in the aftermath whether my Java is 64-bit. Evidently the "Java(TM) Control Panel" is, but I don't know if that's the same as the runtime. (I'm afraid to ask on the offical Java forums, because they're such a-holes.) Also, How do I issue a command to the OS to tell whether this IE is 64-bit? Help!About doesn't say on that. Thanks.

    So i'm trying to render a template with trimpath in IE8, but when passing the template (a jquery object) there is nothing in it. This all works in chrome,safari,firefox. So to give an example: var $flickrImageGalleryPreviewTemplate =$('#flickr_image_gallery_preview_template',rootel); $flickrImageGalleryPreviewTemplate.length) will result in 0 in IE8 and 1 in FF,Chrome,Safari

  • shell script stopped working --- need to rewrite?

    The script below worked on my Mac OS X. I'm now using Ubuntu OS, and the script is no longer working. I'm wondering if there's something that I need to change here? I did change the first line from #!/bin/bash to #!/bin/sh, but it's still throwing up an error....   • Help me sort programing languages a bit

    Hi, so I asked here few days ago about C# and its principles. Now, if I may, I have some additional general questions about some languages, becouse for novice like me, it seems a bit confusing. To be exact I want to ask more about language functions capabilities than syntax and so. To be honest, its just these special functions that bothers me and make me so confused. For exmaple, C has its printf(), Pascal has writeln() and so. I know in basic the output in assembler of these funtions would be similiar, every language has more or less its special functions. For console output, for file manipulation, etc. But all these functions are de-facto part of its OS API, so why is for example in C distinguished between C standard library functions and (on Windows) WinAPI functions when even printf() has to use some Windows feature, call some of its function to actually show desired text on console window, becouse the actuall "showing" is done by OS. Where is the line between language functions and system API? Now languages I dont quite understand - Python, Ruby and similiar. To be more specific, I know they are similiar to java and C# in term they are compiled into bytecode. But, I do not unerstand what are its capabilities in term of building GUI applications. I saw tutorial for using Ruby to program GUI applications on Linux and Windows. But isn´t that just some kind of upgrade? I mean fram other tutorials It seemed like these languages was first intended for small scripts than building big applications. I hope you understand why I am confused. If you do, please help me sort it out a bit, I have no one to ask.

    I am trying to upgrade an existing application from jQuery 1.3.2 to jQuery 1.4.2. When I do this, the page fails to load correctly and firefox's error console displays the error message "uncaught exception: Syntax error, unrecognized expression: Syntax error, unrecognized expression: search". How can I determine what is causing this exception?

  • Prompting for authentication from a wxPython program and passing it along to IIS?

    I have a client (written in Python, with a wxPython front end in dead-simple wizard style) which communicates a website running IIS. A python script receives requests and does the usual client-server dance. I would have written this as a browser application, but for the requirement that certain things happen on the local PC that the web can't help with (file manipulation, interfacing with certain USB hardware, etc.) Right now, I am simply using the logon credentials, compounded as a string from os.environ['USERDOMAIN'] and os.environ['USERNAME'], to pass along to the server, which connects to Active Directory and enumerates the members of the group, looking for those logon credentials. It's an ugly hack, but it works. Obviously, I could make people log out of the generic helper accounts and log back into Windows using specific accounts. However, I wondered how feasible it would be to provide some kind of logon prompt wherein the user can type in a name and password, then some kind of authorization token could be passed on to IIS. This seems like something I would not want to do myself, given that amateurs almost always make huge security mistakes. Now you can see why I am wishing this was purely web-based. What's a good way to handle this?

  • How to setup and teardown temporary django db for unit testing?

    I would like to have a python module containing some unit tests that I can pass to hg bisect --command. The unit tests are testing some functionality of a django app, but I don't think I can use hg bisect --command manage.py test mytestapp because mytestapp would have to be enabled in settings.py, and the edits to settings.py would be clobbered when hg bisect updates the working directory.     Hi, I have a package 3rd party open source package "foo"; that is in beta phase and I want to tweak it to my requirements. So I don't want to get it installed in /usr/local/lib/python or anywhere in current sys.path as I can't make frequent changes in top level packages. foo/ __init__.py fmod1.py import foo.mod2 fmod2.py pass I want to install the the package "foo" as a sub package of my namespace say "team.my_pkg". So that the "fullname" of the package becomes "team.my_pkg.foo" without changing the code in inner modules that refer "team.my_pkg.foo" as "foo". team/ __init__.py my_pkg/ __init__.py foo/ fmod1.py import foo.mod2 fmod2.py pass One way to do this is to do this in team.my_pkg.init.py: import os.path import sys sys.path.append(os.path.dirname(__file__)) But I think it is very unsafe. I hope there is some way that only fmod1.py and fmod2.py can call "foo" by its short name everything else should use its complete name "team.my_pkg.foo" I mean this should fail outside team/my_pkg/foo: import team.my_pkg import foo But this should succeed outside team/my_pkg/foo: import team.my_pkg.foo

    i am using below code to print my content of webpage in asp.net using javascript window.print(document.getElementById('dvPrint')); when i do print, it automatically adds date time on page.. (i think because of page setup) in firefox. please tell me how can i remove this setting. i mean i dont want datetime to be printed automatically on my print page (even if its set in pagesetup).

Say I have an image in my public folder and I have this in my page: <img src="/photos/category/img.jpg" /> Well that works, except when I'm at a URL with a controller like http://www.example.com/controller/action I can see why, but I want a good solution to properly creating these img src links that works across browsers.

    I got an IFrame, in the onload event i set the height of the frame: function resizeFrame() { $("#iframeID").height($("#iframeID").contents().find("body").outerHeight(true)); } Problem is: When the content of the frame is increasing without a postback (javascript or Async Postback with Ajax), a scrollbar appears. I found a solution for Firefox: document.getElementById("iframeID").contentWindow.addEventListener("overflow", resizeFrame, false); But i can't find a solution for IE 7+8 Anyone got an idea?
