• How do I change the effective user of psql?

  I'm using psql to run a simple set of COPY statements contained in a file: psql -d mydb -f 'wbf_queries.data.sql' where wbf_queries.data.sql contains lines: copy <my_query> to '/home/gvkv/mydata' delimiter ',' null ''; ... but I get a permission denied error: ... ERROR: could not open file ... for writing: Permission denied I'm connecting under my user account (gvkv) which is also a superuser in PostgreSQL. Obviously, psql is running under a different (effective) user but I don't know how to change this. Can it be done within psql or do I need some unix-fu?

• In Sinatra, best way to serve iPhone layout vs. normal layout?

  I'm writing a Sinatra app which needs to render different layouts based on whether the user is using an iPhone or a regular browser. I can detect the browser type using Rack-Mobile-Detect but I'm not sure of the best way to tell Sinatra which layout to use. Also, I have a feeling that how I choose to do this may also break page caching. Is that true? • iPhone not returning to application after calling eMail send

  I am sending an email from within my iPhone application. The eMail page pops up ok, I click on the Send button, the iPhone plays a whoosh sound, and the eMail actually arrives at the recipient. Unfortunately, the mail dialog still sits there unresponsive, and the only option - to click the home button - kills the app. Is there something else that needs to be specified to close the eMailMessage view? • Rails Nested Attributes, Relationship for Shared or Common Object

  This has to be a common problem, so I'm surprised that Google didn't turn up more answers. I'm working on a rails app that has several different kinds of entities, those entities by need a relation to a different entity. For example: Address: a Model that stores the details of a street address (this is my shared entity) PersonContact: a Model that includes things like home phone, cell phone and email address. This model needs to have an address associated with it DogContact: Obviously, if you want to contact a dog, you have to go to where it lives. So, PersonContact and DogContact should have foreign keys to Address. Even, though they are really the "owning" object of Address. This would be fine, except that accepts_nested_attributes_for is counting on the foreign key being in Address to work correctly. What's the correct strategy to keep the foreign key in Address, but have PersonContact and DogContact be the owning objects?

  I need to knowingly isolate each row of the vcard and get its value. For instance, I want to get "5555" from X-CUSTOMFIELD. So far, my thoughts are: "X-CUSTOMFIELD;\d+" I have been looking at some tutorials and I am a little confused with what function to use? What would my regex above return? Would it give me the whole line or just the numerical part (5555)? I was thinking I i get the whole row, I can use substring to get the digits?   I'm trying to connect to an external Sql Server through PHP 5.2. Using this line: $con = mssql_connect('123.123.123.123','Username','Password') or die('Could not connect to the server!'); I'm receiving this error: Warning: mssql_connect() [function.mssql-connect]: Unable to connect to server: 123.123.123.123 in /home/file/public_html/structure/index.php on line 4 Could not connect to the server! My hosting provider assures me that ports are open for my server to connect to the DB. Looking at my php info, MSSQL Support is enabled, using FreeTDS. Any ideas why this would be failing, or how I can begin trouble shooting the problem?

  The thing is I have to run the OpenCl examples, as given here:http://labs.trolltech.com/blogs/2010/04/07/using-opencl-with-qt/. The problem is that I have no clue where to start. I downloaded the source for QtOpenCl but it needs a valid OpenCl installation. I have Qt installed already. How do I install OpenCl? I don't have a GPU at home unfortunately, and need to implement it on my CPU for now. I have to later give a presentation where I will be supplied a system with a GPU. • Is there a technical way to speed up a general program above current PC speed limit?

  Let's imagine I developed a Windows console application implementing some algorithm calculating something. Let's say it doesn't use any threads, just straightforward linear approach with ifs, loops and so on. Is there any technical way to make if run it 100x times faster than on the most advanced current PC? For example one of the way would be to run it on a super computer that emulates i386 faster than any of the existing PCs. But in this case the question what computer and does it really have ability to emulate Windows. In other words, is there real examples of such approach? Although in general it looks useless, but if there is a way, one could develop some program on his general home computer and pay for running it much faster on some other hardware. I suppose that this question could be asked on superuser.com, but since there are possible specific with such things as assembler instructions or threads, I thought that stackoverflow.com is better

• PHP Serialization Will not work correctly.

  Hi, I am developing and doing all the testing on a local machine using PHP Version 5.3.3-1ubuntu9.1 version. The host machine is PHP Version 5.2.15. All the seriliaze arguments are identical. The problems is when i try to login the user on my test local machine i do the following : $user->getByUserId($results['id'],$db); $_SESSION['user'] = serialize($user); which retrieved me and serialize the user. and i just load it back when ever i detect that a session exists $user->LoadFromObject(unserialize($_SESSION['user'])); This works perfectly on my test machine. Just transfered the files on the host to see if i can get a beta version out but i keep on getting Warning: unserialize() expects parameter 1 to be string, object given in /home/gamerent/public_html/beta/includes/header.php on line 19 i have noticed that if i echo the $_SESSION['user'] in both system the test will indeed display me the serializated one but the main one will just show me the object and will not serialize the $user

• Annotation based view mapping

  I am trying to get my head around annotation based mappings and I am having some trouble mapping requests directly to jsp. Do all request have to go through a controller? Is it possible to make it just go to a jsp without declaring a RequestMapping for GET? I am using a InternalResourceViewResolver. • .htaccess file, IE not working Firefox, Safari & Chrome working

  Hi, I've built a site in Interspire Web Publisher and it was working fine, seems to work in Firefox, Safari and Chrome but when I fired up Internet Explorer 7 & 8 only the home page works, all links to other pages show up nothing. Do you think it could have something to do with the .htaccess file? But why would it work at one point then not another? I did a test new site (its database driven) with 3 small pages and it worked fine on Internet Explorer....very weird! my website: http://www.artandepilepsy.com

  Hey, I have one document under ~/my_files/test.tex and want to include in test.tex some styling informations, which can be found under ~/latex/styles/info_hypersetup.tex. When I include the following statement into my test.tex: %% setting the infos for the pdf \include{home/helex/latex/styles/info_hypersetup.tex} I get the following error when running pdflatex test.test: ! I can't write on file `~/latex/styles/info_hypersetup.tex.aux'. I set the rights to 777 but this doesn't changed anything. It works, if I put info_hypersetup.tex in the directory-structure where test.tex is. But I want to use this styleinformation as a global setting for all my documents and don't want to copy it into every project. Thanks for your help.

Can you please let me know, what could be the issue. JAVA_HOME is set in the windows environment variables. Where to set JAVA_HOME in the windows environment. Is there something similar to .bash_profile in windows. So that ANT process can pick it up.

• Why can't I access a web app running on my Mac via my iPhone?

  I'm developing an iPhone app that has a network component. I'm developing the app in Java (Google App Engine actually), running on port 8080. And it works, when I test my app in the iPhone simulator. But now I am trying to test on the device, and I can't hit my Jetty instance. I can certainly access my Mac via the iPhone because I'm able to hit http://10.0.1.7/~brianpapa/ and view my Home Folder when Web Sharing is turned on. But when I try to hit http://10.0.1.7:8080/, it says it can't connect to the server. Interestingly, if I try to hit http://10.0.1.7:8080/ from my mac, it doesn't work either - I have to use localhost as the hostname instead, then it's fine. Has anybody ever encountered this before, and know how to fix it?

• ListView not showing up in fragment

  When I insert a listview in a fragment in my application, it doesn't show up after I populate it with items. In fact, the application crashes due to a NullPointerException. Can anybody help me? As you can see in the CourseDetailActvity, I populate smaple items in the listview to see if it the listview shows up. The fragment gets inflated properly, but when I try to add items to the listview, the application crashes! • Launching an activity at its current state.

  Hello, I am trying to make a task switcher and i succed in it. My only problem is that when I launch activities, they are relaunched as they were new activities ( for instance, I am writing an email, i press home and go into my activity,launch email, and then the app launch the email bout goes back at the inbox and the email is lost) So that's not true multitasking. Here are my steps: 1) getting all the running apps: List<ActivityManager.RunningTaskInfo> allTasks = activityManager.getRunningTasks(30); 2) getting the intent: for (ActivityManager.RunningTaskInfo aTask : allTasks) { Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MAIN); i.setComponent(aTask.baseActivity); (...) 3) Launching the application when clicking on the button: intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK| Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_RESET_TASK_IF_NEEDED).addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_LAUNCHER); monthis.startActivity(intent); ` What is wrong with this code?
