    We want to add a comments/reviews feature to our website's plugin gallery, so users can vote up/down a particular plugin and leave an optional short comment about what they liked or didn't like about it. I'm looking for inspiration, ideally a good implementation elsewhere on the web which isn't annoying to end users, isn't impossibly complex to develop, and which enables users to see both good and bad comments side-by-side, like this: Like: 57 votes Dislike: 8 votes --------------------------------- -------------------------------- "great plugin, saved me hours..." "hard to install" "works well on MacOS and Ubuntu" "Broken on Windows Vista with UAC enabled" "integrates well with version 3.2" More... More... Anyone know a site which does something like this?

  • Custom Classes Passed from Service to a UI threads via AIDL

    I have a service that regularly queries a web server for new messages. The service stores the new messages in an arrayList. These messages are implemented using a custom class, storing all kinds of metadata (strings and longs). An activity then connects to this service to retrieve those messages and display them to the user. I have an .aidl file that describes the interface that the service exposes. package com.example.package; interface MyInterface { List<Message> getMessages(); } The Message class extends the Parcelable class which should allow for the IPC transfer. The problem is this: Eclipse gives me an error saying that the type of List<Message> is unknown. Any imports are marked as invalid. Ideas? Thanks

    Hi All, Been scratching my head for too long on this: Using jquery.form, (http://malsup.com/jquery/form) with PHP ... my $_FILES['someimage'] gets set but the error number is always UPLOAD_ERR_NO_FILE, size is also 0. The JavaScript: $('form input[type=file]').change(function(){ $(this).clone().appendTo('#imgform'); $('#imgform').ajaxForm(); $('#imgform').ajaxSubmit( { type:'POST' } ); }); Which appends to: <form id="imgform" method="POST" action="/api/images.php" enctype="multipart/form-data"></form> From another form which has bog-standard file inputs. PHP logs are clean, but var_dumping $_FILES always shows that the index is set to the name of the form element ... but no data. Thanks guys! (Sorry, I know jQuery-like questions are too frequent round these parts).

  • Recommendations on Triming Large Amounts of Text from a DOM Object

    I'm doing some in browser editing, and I have some content that's on the order of around 20k characters long in a <pre>. So it looks something like: <pre> Text 1 Text 2 Text 3 Text 4 [...] Text 20,000 </pre> I'd like to use jquery to trim it down when someone hits a button to chop, but I'm having trouble doing it without overloading the browser. Assume I know that the character numbers are at 16,510 - 17,888, and what I'd like to do is trim it. I was using: jQuery('#textsection').html(jQuery('textarea').html().substr(range.start)); But browsers seem to enjoy crashing when I do this. Alternatives?

  • Looking for an easy cms system? flexible plugins modules, blocks, themes

    Hi I'm a big user of Wordpress however its not ideal for cms sites. I'm currently looking at pixie cms, however if say I want three columns, only one column can be allowed to change across pages and I can't apply specific templeates to pages. I'm also looking at impress cms which looks confusing in the admin although it has good reviews. Does anyone have any suggestions what is a flexible cms for a designer who only needs to edit the html and css and maybe add a news feed in one column. Thanks for your help Regards Judi

  • How can I set the minDate/maxDate for jQueryUI Datepicker using a string?

    jQueryUI Datepicker documentation states that the minDate option can be set using "a string in the current dateFormat". So I've tried the following to initialize datepickers: $("input.date").datepicker({ minDate: "01/01/2010", maxDate: "12/31/2010" }); However, this results in my datepicker having a selectable date range that goes from 11/06/2015 to 12/17/2015. I've checked the current dateformat and its mm/dd/yy, which is supposed to mean 2 digits for the month, 2 for the day, and 4 for the year, separated by slashes. I've also tried including dateFormat: "mm/dd/yy" in the inizialization statement. I've also checked the values for minDate and maxDate afterwards and they ARE being set to the values I want: 01/01/2010 and 12/31/2010. I want to be able to set min/maxDate with strings because I'm being passed these values as strings from somewhere else. Maybe someone knows why this happens and how to solve this, or a workaround to achieve this, perphaps changing the format of the date strings or something?     I need some scripts inside an existing site's scripts.js. This site has been online for ages, and I can not touch the scripts file. I am including it standardly in another page. There are numerous jQuery calls in the scripts file. The place I include it does not have jQuery. I want to void all $() type things. I tried this... $ = function() { }; before I included scripts.js and it didn't seem to work. I am still getting errors like $(document) is undefined Is there a way to void all these jQuery calls?     i have a form, which you can pretend is laid out like Windows Explorer: panel on the left splitter client panel +------------+#+-----------------------+ | |#| | | |#| | | |#| | | |#| | | Left |#| Client | | |#| | | |#| | | |#| | | |#| | | |#| | +------------+#+-----------------------+ ^ | +----splitter The the left and client area panels are each rich with controls. The problem is that using the splitter is very sluggish. i would expect that a modern 2 GHz computer can re-display the form as fast as a human can push the mouse around. But that's definitely not the case, and it takes about 200-300 ms before the form is fully re-adjusted. The form has about 100 visual controls on it, no code, or custom controls. How do i go about tracing who's the cause of the sluggishness?

Where can I learn more about making flashy, superficially useful but deepdown useless fancy graphics UIs like that? It's almost in the realm of "hollywood special effects" -- like fire/smoke/fire, but I don't want natural phenomenon; I want user interfaces. Concrete question: where can I learn about creating flashy, cool looking (though not necessairly useful) user interfaces? [Perferably in OpenGL]

  • Get Object ID of UI element from code.

    I'm trying link 40 buttons to one event handler method and then do the processing work from one method instead of 40. I know how to link it but once I get there I don't know how to distinguish what button was pressed. Does anyone know how to reference the button object sender id or is there another way to solve this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How I do I make controls/elements move with inertia?

    Modern UI's are starting to give their UI elments nice inertia when moving. Tabs slide in, page transitions, even some listboxes and scroll elments have nice inertia to them (the iphone for example). What is the best algorythm for this? It is more than just gravity as they speed up, and then slow down as they fall into place. I have tried various formulae's for speeding up to a maximum (terminal) velocity and then slowing down but nothing I have tried "feels" right. It always feels a little bit off. Is there a standard for this, or is it just a matter of playing with various numbers until it looks/feels right?

  • List available languages for PyGTK UI strings

    I'm cleaning up some localisation and translation settings in our PyGTK application. The app is only intended to be used under GNU/Linux systems. One of the features we want is for users to select the language used for the applications (some prefer their native language, some prefer English for consistency, some like French because it sounds romantic, etc). For this to work, I need to actually show a combo box with the various languages available. How can I get this list? In fact, I need a list of pairs of the language code ("en", "ru", etc) and the language name in the native language ("English (US)", "???????"). If I had to implement a brute force method, I'd do something like: look in the system locale dir (eg. "/usr/share/locale") for all language code dirs (eg. "en/") containing the relative path "LC_MESSAGES/OurAppName.mo". Is there a more programmatic way?

  • How to click through JGlassPane With MouseListener to UI behind it

    I have a JFrame and a bunch of JComponents on top of the JFrame. I need to make use of the JGlassPane and I used this implementation to set it up. JPanel glass = new JPanel(); frame.setGlassPane(glass); glass.setVisible(true); glass.setOpaque(false); After doing so I can't select any JButtons or other JComponents under the JGlassPane. Is there a way to have only the components on the GlassPane selectable while still having the ability to select components under the GlassPane? Edit I forgot to mention (not knowing this would be relevant) that I did attach both a MouseListener and a MouseMotionListener to the glass pane. Is there a way to pass the Mouse Events to other components and only use them when needed?

  • WPF RadioButton selected in UI, but seen by code as IsChecked == false

    I have some radio buttons in a group box. I select the buttons randomly, and all works perfectly from a visual standpoint and also the event handler is called each time a new button is selected. Now I have a dependency property with a callback when the value changes. When in this callback procedure I read the IsChecked value of any button, the value is False, in spite the button is visually selected (they are all false at the same time, strange). The debugger also displays all buttons unchecked.     I'm in the process of coding my own Tumblr Theme. Well I was wondering how should I list the posts? In the basic theme, (the one you get when you sign up) doesn't use list items (<li>). But I saw in another theme that it does use list items. By the way, this is what I mean... <div class="post-text"><div> <div class="post-audio"><div> ... or <ul> <li class="post-text"></li> ... </ul> I'm confused on the way I should go - I want to go to the semantic way of doing it because the theme will be built in HTML5.

    Hi everyone, How would I go around overriding a theme function with a .tpl file? I know how to override a .tpl file with a theme function but not the other way round. I can't seem to find anywhere that tells me so, so maybe it's not possible or not good practise.     I'm attempting to improve the usability of a client's SharePoint deployment via JQuery; and am hitting a brick wall when trying to find any sort of documentation of what's happening in core.js (aside from painfully digging through and trying to parse any sort of meaning out of it --all 250kb of it!!!!--) Anyone have any pointers, or documentation? EDIT: Sorry, to clarify my question, i'm familiar with using JQuery with SharePoint. My question involves hooking JQuery into SharePoint's own client API. My question is inspired by this post http://www.codefornuts.com/2009/09/forcing-sharepoint-into-asynchronous.html# ; where the author is overriding methods such as "SubmitFormPost" and "STSNavigate" in order to make the UI interaction more "AJAXy".

  • maya "export all" window blocks my plugins script UI

    I'm writing a custom File Translator for Maya which can export only (I have only declared the writer function). Currently having a problem with the MEL script which defines the plugin's options as a GUI. Currently I have a blank Maya scene, go to "file-export all". This creates the "File Export All" dialog, I then select my plugin exporter which runs my MEL script to create the bespoke options window. This new window is created behind the "File Export All" dialog and is not selectable! Do I have to place my export plugin specific options within the export all dialog rather than placing them in a separate window? Thanks for any links, tips or pointers you can provide.
