  • Do I dare clicking Delete Volume instead of Delete Partition?

    - by Olle
I have a VMWare machine with one VM. That VM has a virtual disk which in windows is configured with two partitions and then a lot of slack space, as illustrated here: http://piclair.com/q8g5s What I want to do is delete the partition of 639 GB. However, since it's a dynamic disk, the right menu item says "Delete Volume" instead of "Delete Partition" (when I right click the 639GB space). My question is weather I dare to use "Delete Volume". I have read doing stuff like this on a dynamic volume can cause other partitions/volumes to go corrupt.

  • How to diagnose Internal Server error on Lighttpd?

    - by Tomaszs
I have Lighttpd on Centos 5 with Fcgi and Memcached. Periodically, once per week or two i get internal server error 500 and i must manually restart lighttpd to get it to work again. In my lighttpd config I've defined error log file: server.errorlog = "/home/lxadmin/httpd/lighttpd/error.log" But when I open it, it has no rows for last days, only one month ago. So my question is how to diagnose what is the issue and how to enable error log for my configuration?

  • Virtual Wifi on Vista

    - by XGreen
Hi Guys, Sorry if this is a very dumb question. I have installed the virtualWIFI msi on vista. I assumed that would simply just allow selecting more than one wifi connection with my single card however I don't get much new options. Any help on how to get this running on vista is greatly appreciated.

  • Securing DRAC/ILO

    - by The Diamond Z
This might be a dumb question but DRAC/ILO both have HTTP server interfaces. If I were trolling IP's port 80 on and I came across such a page I'd know it to be a high value target in the sense that if I can crack it, I can take control of the server to some extent (potentially installing another OS). Other than changing the port, what are the best practices for securing DRAC/ILO on public Internet facing machines?

  • Will Windows fail activation on a new hard drive after previous hard drive failed

    - by ServerBloke
I have a failing hard drive which won't boot, that has Windows 7 Home Premium installed. I have a replacement hard drive on the way. My question is will I run into problems trying to install Windows 7 using the same cdkey and DVD on the new hard drive? I assume activation will find that the cdkey has already been activated and fail, especially if a hardware ID is checked which will probably be different because even though the other hardware is the same, the hard drive will be different.

  • Storage and bandwidth for a social network

    - by user38141
I guess i asked a dumb question earlier. I am fairly new at this. I have a socal network being built in PHP wit MYsql. I was wondering how much bandwidth and storage would allow users to have have 500mins of streaming video and allow them to store photos and videos. Please forgive me. I am not a technology guy and just doing some research as I am learning as I go along.

  • How secure are third party Ubuntu (APT) repository mirrors

    - by bakytn
Hello! We have locally an Ubuntu mirrors to save a lot of traffic (our external traffic is not free) So whenever I apt-get install "program" it gets from that repository. the question is...basically they can substitute any package with their own? So it's 100% on my own risk and I can be hacked easily on any apt-get upgrade or a-g install or a-g dist-upgrade? for example the very basic ones like "telnet" or any other.

  • Better layout of Expose on Leopard

    - by joshhunt
Is it possible for Expose on Mac OS X Leopard to arrange the preview windows in a more optimal manner? After a while on superuser, opening up a new windows for each question that interests me, Expose looks like this: It is of minimal value seeing each preview is so small. I have no hope in hell seeing the contents of each windows. Is there some secret setting or 3rd party application that could fix this for me?

  • Load Balancer sftp persistence when a server goes offline

    - by Cobra Kai Dojo
Let's say we have the following scenario: We have two identical *nix servers using a shared filesystem. We connect through SFTP (not FTPS) to one of them to upload a file to the shared filesystem, the server goes offline and we get redirected to the second system which is still available. My question is, would there be any connection persistence or the user will have to relogin? I guess a relogin would be needed because the ssh sessions are not shared between the two systems... Thanks in advance :)

  • Windows 7 CMD.exe jumplist possible?

    - by TMRW
It seems CMD does not have it's own jumplist.Has someone created one already? I would like to be able to pin script and command files to cmd.exe only.I can pin them separately with the /explorer as the first line on target box but i would like all of them to be pinned to cmd.exe by default.Kind of like all folders are pinned to explorer.exe.I also made a rather bad looking mockup to make the question a little more clear: http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/9263/cmdjumplist.jpg

  • Can basic mathematics be done in Microsoft Word?

    - by Christopher Chipps
Is there a function of MS Word that enables users to solve basic math problems, in this case addition or subtraction? I use its platform for a budget and of course I could just use a calculator but it would be more convenient if I could solve it all in one place. For instance: (6.75 + 12.65 + 27.35) Sorry for the simplicity of this question. Wondering if MS Word had a functionality like this of some sort?

  • New IP address with TSOCKS

    - by Matthew Downey
I am using tsocks on my Ubuntu machine and I have it all set up so that if I run wget -q -O - checkip.dyndns.org|sed -e 's/.*Current IP Address: //' -e 's/<.*$//' in my normal shell I get my real IP address, and if I run tsocks wget -q -O - checkip.dyndns.org|sed -e 's/.*Current IP Address: //' -e 's/<.*$//' I get another IP address like I should. My question is how do I make the tsocks command return with a different 'different address'; in other words establish a new identity.

  • Remotely from Chrome or IE page loads ~60seconds, from Firefox or IE on local machine - instantly.

    - by Janis Veinbergs
The problem: If i access SharePoint from Windows 7 with IE8 or Chrome5 - I must wait for like a minute to get a response. If i use other Windows 7 with IE8, just the same - just wait a MINUTE. If i use Firefox3.6 on W7 machine - page opens up instantly. Now switch to IE rendering engine in Firefox, you will have to wait just as with IE. Now i tried IE8 on XP SP3 - page opens up instantly. I tried IE8 on Windows Server 2003 SP2 (machine on which SharePoint is hosted) - page opens up instantly. IIS6 Logs I did request almost instantly from all 3 browsers and this is what shows up in IIS logs (first 2 entries for each browser): Chrome Ok, IIS saw first Chrome request when i Hit enter in browser, but i had to wait long for things to move on 2010-06-01 05:46:04 W3SVC1794621940 192.168.0.9 GET /sapulces - 80 - 192.168.0.186 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+6.1;+en-US)+AppleWebKit/533.4+(KHTML,+like+Gecko)+Chrome/5.0.375.55+Safari/533.4 401 2 2148074254 Loading... 2010-06-01 05:47:07 W3SVC1794621940 192.168.0.9 GET /sapulces - 80 - 192.168.0.186 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+6.1;+en-US)+AppleWebKit/533.4+(KHTML,+like+Gecko)+Chrome/5.0.375.55+Safari/533.4 401 1 0 ... etc... Where would be the problem? Browser? OS? I don't even know what to think about. Just a note Just a note about chrome's process isolation: I found it sad that while I was waiting that minute with Chrome, i could not use any other tab (i could switch, but i could not, for example, scroll or use any controls)

  • Bash or Zsh - which one and why?

    - by Andrew
So, the question pretty much says it all. I'm on Snow Leopard, and I do a lot of web development, particularly in Rails 3 which makes heavy use of the console. I've seen some notable bloggers etc. mention Zsh as their preference over Bash, but I don't know what difference it would make. Could anyone give me a good comparison of what difference there is and what might make one prefer one option or the other? Thanks!

  • Is it safe to leave a broadband router running 24/7?

    - by Anirvan
My father-in-law's ISP warned him in the strictest possible terms to physically turn off his rented Nokia Siemens C2110 PPPoE broadband router when not in use. Everyone I know leaves their broadband router on all the time, and I've never heard of any negative impacts. Is leaving a consumer broadband router running 24/7 really problematic? Is the ISP in question being ridiculously paranoid?

  • httpd 2.4 missing directives

    - by CraigH
I just setup httpd 2.4 on an Amazone AMI and I noticed in the httpd.conf file there are alot of directives missing compared to a 2.2 conf file. For example: ServerTokens, Timeout, Server Signature, LoadModule are all not present. My question is, if they arent explicitly set in the httpd.conf file are they being set somewhere else? If not, what are their default values and why arent they in the conf file. Should I manually be setting these directives?

  • Buying Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Web Edition

    - by Marco
I want to buy Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Web Edition in order to remotely install it on the server. The question is: Can I buy a licence in USA and pay in US dollars? OR do I have to buy it in my country (Portugal)? Since the servers are in Germany, should I buy the licence in Germany? (And if anyone know a good reseller I would apreciate)

  • Internet Speed for Webserver

    - by René
That should be kind of dumb question in comparison to all other questions here. What minimum upload and download is required for a small home webserver with one webpage? Or is there a schema that shows me the required upload and download speed for a number of visitors? We talk about a Windows Server, but not really sure this is relevant. That's just for a practice project.
