  I have a big iso image which is currently being downloaded by a torrent client with space-reservation turned on: that means, file size is not changing while some chunks in in (4 Mib) are constantly changing because of a download. At 90% download I do the initial rsync to save time later: $ rsync -Ph DVD.iso /some/target/ sending incremental file list DVD.iso 2.60G 100% 40.23MB/s 0:01:01 (xfer#1, to-check=0/1) sent 2.60G bytes received 73 bytes 34.59M bytes/sec total size is 2.60G speedup is 1.00 Then, when the file's fully downloaded, I rsync again: total size is 2.60G speedup is 1.00 Speedup=1 says delta-transfer was not used, although 90% of the file has not changed. Why?!

  I am using ubuntu 11.04 virtual image with VMWare Player 4.0.2 build-591240. Because I found that the folder that holds the VMWare image goes to 8GB and want to shrink the size by using the utilities tool provided by the VMWare Image Player. However, I found that the button is disabled like this. Question How to enable the button so that I can use it to shrink the size of virtual image used by ubuntu? Question If I cannot enable the button, is there another way that I can shrink the size of used space? Thank you

I was record 9 minutes video and this video's size is 214 MB . I will upload this video to Youtube. I'm coding a web site at the video, because of this, video must be quality (720p) . I want to reduce file's size, before upload . I'm using Total Video Converter . But when i convert to FLV , video's size increase to 250MB :) I don't know, how can i configure this setting and which file type should i choose.

  What are the things I need to do, and with what tools to know what a competitor has working for him/her off-page (free and paid tools -- please suggest both)? First of all, I'm supposing I want to see all of the sites linking in and see what anchor text is used. Is there something that would report on the anchor text linking in, such as counting the keyword phrases used as anchor text? Also, it would be helpful to see where the PR is coming from by PR, such as, listing inbound links by PR of the page linking in. Lastly, if I'm missing something, here in the way of off-page attributes, please say so.

  Generally, performance of some operation of EAL (Essbase Analytics Link) could be improved by tuning of EAL Data Synchronization Server (DSS) parameters. a. Expected that DSS machine will be 64-bit machine with 4-8 cores and 5-8 GB of RAM dedicated to DSS. b. To change DSS configuration - open EAL Configuration Tool on DSS machine.     ->Next:     and define: "Job Units" as <Number of Cores dedicated to DSS> * 1.5 "Max Memory Size" (if this is 64-bit machine) - ~1G for each Job Unit. If DSS machine is 32-bit - max memory size is 2600 MB. "Data Store Size" - depends on number of bridges and volume of HFM applications, but in most cases 50000 MB is enough. This volume should be available in defined "Data Store Dir" driver.   Continue with configuration and finish it. After that, DSS should be restarted to take new definitions.

We have several accounts with different roles and manual insert of login is pretty slow.   This question is related to How to recover deleted files? but it is slightly different in nature. Suppose I have a file named ~/something open in a text editor. Further suppose that I open a terminal and run the following command while the file is still open in the text editor: rm ~/something This will delete the file. Now suppose that I changed my mind and wanted to get the file back. The file is still open in the text editor, so it hasn't been removed from the disk or filesystem yet. Is there any way to recover it?

• Can we grant sudo to an already opened application?

  So, can we grant sudo to an already opened application ? I wish to first open an application as normal user and incase if i need root permissions on it i wish to grant su without restarting the application.. I tried opening an application and then type "sudo appname" in terminal, but that opens a new app window retaining normal user permissions on old app window. Say, i want to check and edit /etc/apt/sources.list . I open a filemanager and go to the path and click on sources.list which opens a text editor with that file in view. If i feel i need to edit that, then i want to grant sudo to that instance of text editor rather than opening a new root text editor and browsing the entire path.

  Say I have to have terms of use on site, a place the text as marked up html. Where it is better to prepare this document initially if it is going to placed to the web? Considering that such documents are prepared and changed by lawyers, it is not very applicable for them to use text editor. And it is not very efficient to manually process content to prepare it for the web as it is changed. For now my solution is: Prepare document text in google docs keeping some simple structure (title, ordered lit of features, simple paragraphs), save as html (it will contain some unnecessary markup) and then use custom conversion tool (some script) to convert saved html from google docs to simple html and inject new version to the site. What is common practiceses for this problem? What is the workflow of preparing and publishing such documents.

I followed the instructions from: http://zackreed.me/articles/38-software-raid-5-in-debian-with-mdadm I created the raid with following command: sudo mdadm --create --verbose /dev/md0 --auto=yes --level=5 --raid-devices=4 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1 /dev/sde1 After creating the RAID mdadm --detail /dev/md0 shows me: /dev/md0: Version : 1.2 Creation Time : Mon Jun 11 18:14:26 2012 Raid Level : raid5 Array Size : 5860535808 (5589.04 GiB 6001.19 GB) Used Dev Size : 1953511936 (1863.01 GiB 2000.40 GB) Raid Devices : 4 Total Devices : 4 Persistence : Superblock is persistent Update Time : Mon Jun 11 18:14:26 2012 State : clean, degraded Active Devices : 3 Working Devices : 4 Failed Devices : 0 Spare Devices : 1 Layout : left-symmetric Chunk Size : 512K Name : rsserver:0 (local to host rsserver) UUID : a68c3c99:1ef865e9:5a8a7bdc:64710ed8 Events : 0 Number Major Minor RaidDevice State 0 8 17 0 active sync /dev/sdb1 1 8 33 1 active sync /dev/sdc1 2 8 49 2 active sync /dev/sdd1 3 0 0 3 removed 4 8 65 - spare /dev/sde1 Why is there a spare drive?
