• Cannot resize an ntfs (Windows Server 2k3r2) boot partition booting from gparted

  I am trying to use gparted to make my ntfs system/boot partition larger. I expanded the disk in ESX, providing an extra 60 GB or so of free space. I confirmed that this free space is available in gparted: However, when I try to go to "Move/Resize" the boot partition, there is no unallocated space for me to allocate. It will let me resize the "extended" (non-boot) partition, which makes me think the issue is that the partitions are not contiguous. If it's not obvious, I am no expert in partitioning/storage so any help is appreciated.

• How do I route traffic to website using a spcified network connection on Windows 7

  I want to route all traffic to a website over my wireless connection while the rest of the traffic using my lan. What I tried was first finding out the IP address of the website I want to go to. For example, lets say pandora.com. I found it resolves to 208.85.40.20. I have entered that entry into my hosts file. I then added that route using route add 208.85.40.20 mask 255.255.255.255 WirelessIP. It doesn't seem to work however. Instead of using the IP address, is there a way that I can just say.. this URL to route over that connection? Does anyone know of a program that I can install that will do this.. possibly some sort of proxy or a software load balancer that can do this?

• Recover data from a Windows Dynamic Volume Spanned Disk

  I have a dynamic volume created with two spanned partitions over two disk. Recently, one disk has started failing, and I want to copy the data inside that disk to another disk, before replacing it. However I don't know how to select only what is inside the failing disk, because the partitions spans across both disks. Maybe imaging the entire disk should do the work? • Windows script to create directories of 3,000 files

  We have some email archiving that is dumping all the emails into a directory. Because of some performance reasons with the server, I want to setup an automated task that will run a script once a day and if there is more than 3,000 (or whatever number) of files in the main directory, create a new directory with the date and move all the main directory files into it. I'm sure someone has already written something similar, so if anyone could point me at it that would be great. Batch file or Powershell would both be fine.

  I'm trying to connect using PPTP to my VPS. At first, I got the problem that my connection (Wlan, which is what I use to connect to the Internet) goes "limited" (I can't connect to the Internet) when I connect to the VPN. Then, I used to get some long message, something like you might be trying using L2TP. Then now it's back again to the "limited" problem. What's the solution to that problem? One thing I'm not sure of is what I put as my local IP address in "sudo nano /etc/pptpd.conf" Is it 127.0.0.1?   I am trying to find a good way to get available RAM percentage from perfmon. I can get Available Mbytes but I can't find any way to get the total installed memory on the server or what is in use via perfmon. I can obviously alert on GB but each of my servers have different total RAM so not a great alert. The way I understand % Committed Bytes is this includes page files on disk so this is not a good indicator. Any help would be appreciated.

• Splitting Multiple Files in Windows

  We have a 21TB LUN full of images that are approx 600K in size in multiple sub folders on the disk. We are trying to split the 21TB LUN into 8 smaller LUNs that are about 2.6TB a piece in order to process the images more effectively. My question is how we can determine what 2.6TB is on the drive? What is the best tool to mark this data so we can copy it to the new smaller LUNs with robocopy or emcopy without overfilling the smaller LUNs? Is there a third-party tool that would be better suited for this task? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

• ownership of hard drive recoveery of files Windows 7

  Here is the issue. I have an old laptop that died that was running xp. I now have a win 7 laptop. I need to get the files off the old drive. Win 7 will not let me take ownership of the drive. I can runn the comand prompt in regular mode and do a dir on the drive that shows up as Q: drive in regular mode. I gives me the volume as c and the serial number. I can not take ownership in regular mode with the comand prompt or other means. Microsoft site says use safe mode with networking. So I go to safe mode the drive shows up as G: in safe mode. I use the comand prompt Takeown /f G: and get the device is not ready error. I am at a loss. All I want is to retrieve my files from this drive. Any ideas or sugestions. I don't see how you can dir and get some info in one mode and not acces it in another. I have to get ownership and permissions fixed to get in the drive to get my files. Thanks in advance. I might add that I am using a usb3.0 to ide/sata cable adapter. Software came with the device but I can't make heads or tails out of the manual to know if any of the software can help me. The soft ware is PCClone Ex lite, and Clone Drive Soft ware

RAS service is configured with static IP pool on the same subnet of internal network (10.10.0.x). The problem is when a client connect to server, client can connect to server(10.10.0.10), but cannot connect to another host locate in internal network (10.10.0.11) even cannot ping to 10.10.0.50. RAS configured with IP routing enabled, client connect with options: Use default gateway on remote network. I'm messed up and can not figure out what wrong. Please help me T_T. TIA, giobuon

  I am getting an error message to the effect of unable to move files to a single file. I am not trying to do this. What I am trying to do is move files from one folder to another folder (staging) and then deleting the original folder. If you can show me a better way to do this since I am not doing this correctly. • Why is Windows 7 so slow to log-on when my Wireless USB dongle is plugged in?

  I'm using an Edimax Wireless USB dongle (model EW-7711UTN) on Windows 7 64-bit. The dongle works brilliantly (it was truly plug-and-play) except for one thing. I've noticed that if the dongle is plugged in whilst I'm logging on to Windows it introduces a massive delay - after I type in my password and hit enter, Windows shows the "Welcome" screen, then the screen goes black for 2 minutes or so (with just the cursor showing) before finally displaying my desktop. If I unplug the dongle before I enter my password, Windows goes straight to my desktop. Even though the dongle didn't appear to need drivers for Windows 7, I did try downloading the latest ones from the Edimax website, but that made no difference.

  I have set up a local site under IIS 7.5 under port 900. to access it I should type localhost:900 in the address bar. I'm a little bit familiar with the System32\Drivers\etc\hosts file and I know I can define my custom name with IP adderss there. For example I can add: 127.0.0.1 MyLocalSite and whenever I type in http://MyLocalSite in the browser, The DNS resolves its IP as 127.0.0.1. Is there anyway that I can specify port number in that file as well? (e.g. 127.0.0.1:900 MySecondSite and the DNS resolves it correctly) I tried 127.0.0.1:900 and 127.0.0.1::900 with no luck.

• Windows XP freezes completely

  Lately my Win XP SP3 started to make problems. From time to time it freezes completely. Which means that the system does not react to mouse and keyboard. Keyboard led indicators also do not react to CAPS-, SCROLL-, NUM- LOCK keys. The problem is that I don't understand what causes this behavior and it seems to happen randomly. System event log also does not contain any clues. I'm thinking this could be some driver/hardware problem, but I don't know which. Are there any tools that would help me figure out the cause of this problem? Does anybody have any clue how can I fix this?

  Hi, Long story short, a program that shouldn't have been run on this machine has been, and it's created a naughty .sys file that is being loaded right after pci.sys (as determined by NBTLog.txt) I've had a look a BCDEdit, EasyBCD and a number of Registry keys but I can't seem to determine where about winstart.exe actually gets the list of sys files to load from! The sys file itself is running in high elevation and appears to be defeating all attempts to remove it; I could (probably should) make a Linux USB boot disc and use it to delete the sys file, but I'd really appreciate understanding the mechanics here. ((FWIW: the problem stemmed from a sibling running a Trainer for some game; he has been suitable chastised))
