• Creating an installer with WPF forms, packaged files and custom setup actions

  I'm trying to create a way of deploying a set of tools (which are add-ins to 3rd party software) to my users. I would like to do the following: User Enters Serial Dlls in their directory structure is extracted to program files a file is copied to a location in ProgramData (this registers my add-ins to the 3rd party application) Online activation for software is performed Can anyone point me into the right direction for this? I had a look at deployment projects in Visual Studio but I'm not sure if they are what I'm after. Main problem is they are ugly, I would like to have a nice WPF installer, and have a more custom experience. But I guess that can be traded off if its going to make things easier. I was thinking, I could just make my own C# project that extracts the files, but I have no idea how to package them up and extract them all as part of one download (like the MSI files that the deployment projects create). Can anyone point me in the right direction?

  Hello all, I have a web application which needs to allow admins to create content pages. I'd rather not re-invent the wheel here. What I need is something like Joomla, but it doesn't have to be a full fledged CMS. I need a framework or a library that I can use with my current web application which will present a nice interface for admin to create sections/pages, and then edit and style them just like joomla. My web application is built on .Net 3.5 and Sql Server 2005. Any ideas?

  Hello, I happen to have two columns having the same name as two SQL reserved words, Key and Value. When using the SELECT statement I can create a table alias and solve it that way. Now I'm trying to INSERT data and it seems like you can't create table alias in the INSERT statement. INSERT INTO attributeStrings ats (ats.ItemID,ats.Key,ats.Value) VALUES (3,'Categories','TechGUI') I get error at 'ats (ats.ItemID,ats.Key,ats.Value) VALUES (3,'Categories','TechGUI')' indicating that alias can't be created. Are there any ways to solve this without renaming the columns Key and Value?

• VS2008: File creation fails randomly in unit testing?

  I'm working on implementing a reasonably simple XML serializer/deserializer (log file parser) application in C# .NET with VS 2008. I have about 50 unit tests right now for various parts of the code (mostly for the various serialization operations), and some of them seem to be failing mostly at random when they deal with file I/O. The way the tests are structured is that in the test setup method, I create a new empty file at a certain predetermined location, and close the stream I get back. Then I run some basic tests on the file (varying by what exactly is under test). In the cleanup method, I delete the file again. A large portion (usually 30 or more, though the number varies run to run) of my unit tests will fail at the initialize method, claiming they can't access the file I'm trying to create. I can't pin down the exact reason, since a test that will work one run fails the next; they all succeed when run individually. What's the problem here? Why can't I access this file across multiple unit tests? • Actionscript 2.0 mx.managers.CreatePopUp dialog triggers onRollOver for events underneath it

  All, On the main stage I have a button that is highlighted on rollover. I am using mx.managers.CreatePopUp to create a dialog box that pops up and takes user information. When the dialog box appears above the button, mousing over the dialog box triggers the highlight for the button beneath it. Can you provide some suggestions as to what the issue might be caused by? (I am fairly new to Flash so any suggestions would be helpful. Just looking for things to experiment with to get the correct behavior.) Other info that might be helpful: I've noticed that when I create a modal version of the dialog box, this behavior does not occur. Dismissing the modal dialog disables the entire stage. Fixing this issue would also solve my problem, but I've been unsuccessful thus far. Thanks in advance.

  I'm working on a basic garden logging application which consists of gardens, plants and planted plants. Each user has one or many gardens, plants are master definitions, and a planted plant can be thought of as an instance of a plant in a specific user's garden. In my routes.rb file I have the following: map.resources :gardens do |gardens| gardens.resources :planted_plants, :has_many => :plant_log_entries, :collection => { :filter => :post, :choose_garden => :post} gardens.resources :garden_log_entries end map.resources :plants This makes sense to me when retrieving a list of planted_plants in a user's garden, but I'd like to create a planted_plant record from the index of plant. The problem is, a user can have multiple gardens. How can I create a new form for a planted_plant that allows the user to specify which garden should be used? The current route requires a garden_id - which makes sense for retrieval, but I'd like to supply that as a parameter for creation. Thanks in advance for any help!

  tl;dr: How does one implement MVC in JavaScript in a clean way? I'm trying to implement MVC in JavaScript. I have googled and reorganized with my code countless times but have not found a suitable solution. (The code just doesn't "feel right".) Here's how I'm going about it right now. It's incredibly complicated and is a pain to work with (but still better than the pile of code I had before). It has ugly workarounds that sort of defeat the purpose of MVC. Do these payment providers automatically bill the user every month? How would I take care of offering the service free for 30 days and start billing after that?   I have a C++ project in Eclipse. The project uses Perforce and Eclipse has the Perforce plugin installed. Everything was fine, until I decided to create a git repo in my project. I created the git repo to snapshot some changes which I wasn't ready to commit. Everything was fine until I refreshed my files in Eclipse. Two problems have occurred: Eclipse found my .git folder, and indexed all of the files inside of it. Eclipse also decided to add all the git file to my pending change list. If I create a new file within Eclipse, I'd like it to add it to Perforce, but if it happens to find a file, I don't want it to do anything with it. I'd also like to give Eclipse a list of file types to always ignore, just like I do with my .hgignore file.

  Hi, I’ve throughout the last couple of years downloaded a lot of templates for websites and these are now starting to become chaotic in the different folders so I’m starting to get a overview of the different templates. Regarding to this I was thinking about the way that WordPress displays the different themes installed in the themes folder. It provides a small overview (thumbnail) of the theme and a possibility to preview the theme. Of cause, I don’t need or want such a advanced system as Wordpress but I’m attractive to the idea of displaying my templates in the same kind of manner and without using a Database. I’ve played around with different directory management scripts and tools for PHP but the best result I’ve got so fare is just to display the different content in the different folders but not create a preview which in each preview it will use the webpage itself and it’s stylesheets, images, etc. Does anyone have an idea how to create such a script or have a link to a already existing script.   I'm using SQLAlchemy Migrate to keep track of database changes and I'm running into an issue with removing a foreign key. I have two tables, t_new is a new table, and t_exists is an existing table. I need to add t_new, then add a foreign key to t_exists. Then I need to be able to reverse the operation (which is where I'm having trouble). t_new = sa.Table("new", meta.metadata, sa.Column("new_id", sa.types.Integer, primary_key=True) ) t_exists = sa.Table("exists", meta.metadata, sa.Column("exists_id", sa.types.Integer, primary_key=True), sa.Column( "new_id", sa.types.Integer, sa.ForeignKey("new.new_id", onupdate="CASCADE", ondelete="CASCADE"), nullable=False ) ) This works fine: t_new.create() t_exists.c.new_id.create() But this does not: t_exists.c.new_id.drop() t_new.drop() Trying to drop the foreign key column gives an error: 1025, "Error on rename of '.\my_db_name\#sql-1b0_2e6' to '.\my_db_name\exists' (errno: 150)" If I do this with raw SQL, i can remove the foreign key manually then remove the column, but I haven't been able to figure out how to remove the foreign key with SQLAlchemy? How can I remove the foreign key, and then the column?

• Why can't HTC Droid running OTA 2.1 communicate with RFCOMM?

  Yesterday we received OTA Android 2.1 on my wife's HTC Droid - HOORAY!!! I am finally able to load my carputer app on her phone. Well we loaded it, but it doesn't work. Specifically, it connects but sees no I/O!!! I paired, re-paired, and re-paired again, every time its the same problem: connect() says we connected successfully, but any attempt to send or receive data appears to work but no data ever arrives in the input buffer. The device I'm connecting to uses AT commands. ATI should respond with a device ID. That works fine when I run the app on my Moto Droid, but on the HTC droid, no data is ever present in the inputstream/buffer. Personally, I'm feeling pretty sure it's a bug or limitation in this release for the HTC (because the app works great on my Moto A855 Droid). Can anybody comment on the issue?   New to objective-c xcode and core-data so sorry for the remedial question. I have set up a very simple data model: Entity1 and Entity2, both contain a single attribute (String) and a one-to-many relationship with the other. I want to scan Entity1 and depending on the results of the scan create one or more Entity2 objects that link to Entity1. How can I do this? I don’t understand how I create Entity2 type objects in code and how I would define the relationship to the Entity1 object they are related to. I come from a SQL programming background where inserting elements into the Entity2 table with the ID of the related Entiry1 entry is easy. I can’t get my head around the xcode core-data abstraction and would appreciate any help.

• Can I access Spring session-scoped beans from application-scoped beans? How?

  I'm trying to make this 2-player web game application using Spring MVC. I have session-scoped beans Player and application-scoped bean GameList, which creates and stores Game instances and passes them to Players. On player creates a game and gets its ID from GameList and other player sends ID to GameList and gets Game instance. The Game instance has its players as attributes. Problem is that each player sees only himself instead of the other one. Example of what each player sees: First player (Alice) creates a game: Creator: Alice, Joiner: Empty Second player (Bob) joins the game: Creator: Bob, Joiner: Bob First player refreshes her browser Creator: Alice, Joiner: Alice What I want them to see is Creator: Alice, Joiner: Bob. Easy way to achieve this is saving information about players instead of references to players, but the game object needs to call methods on its player objects, so this is not a solution. I think it's because of aop:scoped-proxy of session-scoped Player bean. If I understand this, the Game object has reference to proxy, which refers to Player object of current session. • How do I determine if a JDialog has children?

  I've got a custom window class that is a couple levels down extending a JDialog. We have windows that we create and sometimes we create new windows as children of existing windows using the constructor that takes a parent argument. I need to put some code somewhere in our custom class that does something different depending on whether not the window has children. I know of getParent(), etc, and I can see that I can loop through the components of the window, but for the life of me, I can't seem to figure out how to determine whether or not my current window has any child windows. Is there a way to do this? Any help is, as always, much appreciated.

  How can I create automatic GUI using XML file in C#? Should I write a parser for the file and define a sort of "protocol" for the file's structure, and after the parse - create the GUI controls manually (respective to the data in the files)? Or is there a better way? Is there a tool, or a built-in code in the .NET environment which can do that for me automatically? (I am currently working with win forms, but I am willing to consider any other technology - as long as it's supported in MONO, since the code should be portable to Linux as well).

  Hi, I am playing about with Erlang and I am trying to write a simple arithmetic parser. I want to try and parse the following expression: ((12+3)-4) I want to parse the expression into a stack of AST nodes. When parsing this expression, I would first of all create a binary expression for the (12+3) expression which would look something like this in C#: var binaryStructure = new BinaryStructure(); binaryStructure.Left = IntegerLiteralExpression(12); binaryStructure.Right = IntegerLiteralExpression(4); binaryStructure.Operator = binaryExpression.Operator != BinaryOperatorType.Addition; I am quite new to Erlang and I am wondering how I would go about creating a structure like this in Erlang that I can place on a List that I would use as the stack of expressions. • Multiple Socket Connections

  I need to write a server which accepts connections from multiple client machines, maintains track of connected clients and sends individual clients data as necessary. Sometimes, all clients may be contacted at once with the same message, other times, it may be one individual client or a group of clients. Since I need confirmation that the clients received the information and don't want to build an ACK structure for a UDP connection, I decided to use a TCP streaming method. However, I've been struggling to understand how to maintain multiple connections and keep them idle. I seem to have three options. Use a fork for each incoming connection to create a separate child process, use pthread_create to create an entire new thread for each process, or use select() to wait on all open socket IDs for a connection. Recommendations as to how to attack this? I've begun working with pthreads but since performance will likely not be an issue, multicore processing is not necessary and perhaps there is a simpler way.

  I have some working code that uses IImgCtx to load images, but I can't work out how to get at the alpha channel. For images like .gif's and .png's there are transparent pixels, but using anything other than a 24-bit bitmap as a drawing surface doesn't work. So it works if I create a 24 bits/pixel bitmap but has no alpha to speak of, and it leaves the 32 bits/pixel bitmap blank. Now this interface apparently is used by Internet Explorer to load images, and obviously THAT supports transparency, so I believe that it's possible to get some level of alpha out of the interface. The question is how? (I also have fall back code that will call libpng/libjpeg/my .gif loader etc)
