• Can't fill a column of NULLs with actual values by making an association to the proper values in the

  I have a table with separate columns for months, days and a varchar column for 6 hour increments for each day ('12AM', '6AM', '12PM', '6PM'). There's also a column that's supposed to have calculated numeric values for each of those 6 hour increments. These calculated values come from some reference table. This reference table contains values for each day for several months broken down by hour where each hour has its own column. So, basically, I have to add the values for each 6 hour increment. I have no idea how to associate the correct values in the reference table to those 6 hour increments. I will really appreciate any help on this.

• Solr match all aka *:* does not work

  Don't know what I did wrong. I have two indices with identical documents in it. The local index was replicated from a master which responds correctly, so the same solrconfig.xml and schema.xml file. But if I query the index on my local machine with *:* I get 0 docs. (other queries on my local machine are working correct) I tried jetty and tomcat for the local index. no success. The *:* behaviour is crucial for me, because some test cases are failing now. Do you have an idea what could be wrong?

• C++ - checking if a class has a certain method at compile time

  Here's a question for the C++ gurus out there. Is there a way to check at compile time where a type has a certain method, and do one thing if it does, and another thing if it doesn't? Basically, I have a template function template <typename T> void function(T t); and I it to behave a certain way if T has a method g(), and another way if it doesn't. Perhaps there is something that can be used together with boost's enable_if? Something like this: template <typename T> enable_if<has_method<T, g, void ()>, void>::type function(T t) { // Superior implementation calling t.g() } template <typename T> disable_if<has_method<T, g, void ()>, void>::type function(T t) { // Inferior implementation in the case where T doesn't have a method g() } "has_method" would be something that preferably checks both that T has a method named 'g', and that the method has the correct signature (in this case, void ()). Any ideas?

  I'm currently looking for some libraries which might help me during iPhone Development using Appcelerator Titanium. I've heard that since version 1.0 it isn't dependant on webkit anymore and it makes app-development more exiting of course, please correct me if i'm wrong. As many people out there i love Javascript Frameworks such as JQuery and Mootools much, but they were build specifically to do a great job within a browser and most of the functionality is not needed within the environment Titanium now provides (DOM-Manipulation etc). Is there any other small library of useful functions i can use for development? Thx in advance.

• Using css "active tab" technique on single page

  I'm building a navigation system using jquery scrollto. I have my navigation menu in a separate file (( navigation.php )). It is included in 5 locations on the first page (( 5 different sections w/ text following each )). I'm trying to figure out a way to have the current "tab" highlight'd. I could hard code the navigation in each location to ensure it shows up the correct way, but I'd rather use the phpinclude() method. The other issue is that each "tab" has it's own unique color (( cmykd )). Here is the alpha version of what I'm doing (( when you click && the page slides, the "active tab" still stays grey -- I'd like it to be the corresponding color )).   I am trying to use a simple split to break up the following string: 00-00000 My expression is: ^([0-9][0-9])(-)([0-9])([0-9])([0-9])([0-9])([0-9]) And my usage is: String s = "00-00000"; String pattern = "^([0-9][0-9])(-)([0-9])([0-9])([0-9])([0-9])([0-9])"; String[] parts = s.split(pattern); If I play around with the Pattern and Matcher classes I can see that my pattern does match and the matcher tells me my groupCount is 7 which is correct. But when I try and split them I have no luck.

• Neat way of gettings position of my Object in linq collections

  I currently have a object called Week. A week is part of a Season object. the season can contain many weeks. What I want to do is find the position of my week (is it the first week in the season (so #1) or is it the second (so #2). int i = 0; foreach ( var w in Season.Weeks.OrderBy(w => w.WeekStarts)){ if(w.Id == Id){ return i; } i+=1; } At the moment this is what I have. I order the weeks in a second by there start date to make sure they are in the correct order. and I cycle through them until I find the week that matches the week I am currently looking at. and return the int that I have been counting up.. I feel there should be a easier linq way to do this as it feels pretty messy!

  I'm trying to add a background color to a user submitted search result when a user enters a search term on a page (which is basically one big table). This is a text based search. I'm using jquery to show/hide the table rows that do not have the search term as text within the TR, but I'd ideally like to take the additional step of taking the search term (the entered value), and matching any of those text terms in the remaining (showing) rows and adding say a yellow background to the word(s).   I'm learning TDD, and I have a question about private / protected variables. My question is: If a function I want to test is operating on a private variable, how should I test it? Here is the example I'm working with: I have a class called Table that contains an instance variable called internalRepresentation that is a 2D array. I want to create a function called multiplyValuesByN that multiplies all the values in the 2D array by the argument n. So I write the test for it (in Python): def test_multiplyValuesByN (self): t = Table(3, 3) # 3x3 table, filled with 0's t.set(0, 0, 4) # Set value at position (0,0) to 4 t.multiplyValuesByN(3) assertEqual(t.internalRepresentation, [[12, 0, 0], [0, 0, 0], [0, 0, 0]]) Now, if I make internalRepresentation private or protected, this test will not work. How am I supposed to write the test so it doesn't depend on internalRepresentation but still tests that it looks correct after calling multiplyValuesByN?

  I've got a MainPage.xaml page a Detail.xaml page. I've passed variables to the Detail.xaml from MainPage.xaml by using a static variable and referencing it in Detail.xaml (the detail page is acting like a dialog). However once I've updated the content of another object, I want to call a method in MainPage.xaml to refresh the content of that page using the updated object from the Detail.xaml page. I assume I am not using the correct paradigm for this and should probably be using MVVM or something but I'm not familiar with the implementation and was hoping there was a simple way to do this?

  I have found several examples online where we can create a proc file, assign read and write methods that are called every time the proc file is opened for read or written to. However, I can't seem to find any documentation on how to programatically write to a proc file. Ideally, I would like to add a timestamp with other user details every time the proc file is opened for read or for write. Again, I've found where I can add the read and write functions that are triggered when the proc file is opened, but I can't find documentation on how to actually write to a proc file programatically. This would be different from a regular IO read/write, correct?

• Use of WebDAV to access OWA (exchange 2003) mails with Basic authentication and SSL

  I have got a working C# code for accessing OWA mails using WebDAV against a FBA enabled exchange 2003 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891748/en-us/) But my client's OWA (exchange 2003) has Basic authentication and SSL (i-e when I try to access the web mail link through browser I get a grey login box instead of a web page I can log into the mail box once I enter the correct details) But my same fails with a 401 error against this mailbox. I got the simple request working for the Basic authentication using – String usernamePassword = strUserName + ":" + strPassword; WebReq.Headers.Add("Authorization", "Basic " + Convert.ToBase64String(new ASCIIEncoding().GetBytes(usernamePassword))); But the subsequent WebDAV SEARCH request fails with 404 (resource not found) error. Can we use WebDAV against an exchange 2k3 with SSL and Basic authentication?

• Structure of open source project's repository

When cloning the main repository one gets a complete build environment with all the libraries and all the tools needed to make an official installer file, with correct version numbers. I like the fact that anyone who wants to contribute can clone the repository and get started with anything they want. But I'm thinking this makes it to easy for Evil People to create malicious installers and release into the wild. How should it be structured? What do you recommend including in the repository, versus keeping on the build server only?

  Some XML::LibXML methods return arrays instead of references to arrays. Instead of doing this: $self->process_items($xml->findnodes('items/item')); I want to do something like: $self->process_items(\$xml->findnodes('items/item')); So that in process_items() I can dereference the original array instead of creating a copy: sub process_items { my ($self, $items) = @_; foreach my $item (@$items) { # do something... } } I can always store the results of findnodes() into an array and then pass the array reference to my own method, but let's say I want to try a reduced version of my code. Is that the correct syntax for passing the method results or should I use something different? Thanks!

  Java generates a proxy class for a given interface and provides the instance of the proxy class. But when we type cast the proxy object to our specific Object, how java handles this internally? Is this treated as special scenario? For example I have class 'OriginalClass' and it implements 'OriginalInterface', when I create proxy object by passing 'OriginalInterface' interface java created proxy class 'ProxyClass' using methods in the provided interface and provides object of this class(i.e ProxyClass). If my understanding is correct then can you please answer following queries 1) When I type cast object of ProxyClass to my class OriginalClass this works, but how java is allowing this? Same in case of instace of? 2) As my knowledge java creates a proxy class only with the methods, but what happen when I try to access attributes on this object? 3) Only interface methods are getting implemented in Proxy, but what happens when I try to access a method which not in interface and only mentioned in the class?   I'm currently learning python and trying to do exercises at pyschools (if anyone knows what it is). Anyway, i have an exercise that asks me to do the following : Write a function percent(value, total) that takes in two numbers as arguments, and returns the percentage value as an integer. Here's my code: def percent(value, total): percent = value / total * 100 return int(percent) It works great in my Python Idle and it gives all the correct answers. however, when i run it in the pyschools website, it says that , for example , when the function is called with parameters 46 and 90 , the function returns 0. However, in my python idle , it correctly returns 51. What might be the problem ? Thank you very much for your help!

The camera requires HTTP basic authentication, so I have to add the corresponding request header: URL url = new URL("http://myipcam/snapshot.jpg"); URLConnection uc = url.openConnection(); uc.setRequestProperty("Authorization", "Basic " + new String(Base64.encode("user:pass".getBytes()))); // outputs "null" System.out.println(uc.getRequestProperty("Authorization")); I am later passing the url object to ImageIO.read(), and, as you can guess, I am getting an HTTP 401 Unauthorized, although user and pass are correct. What am I doing wrong? I've also tried new URL("http://user:pass@myipcam/snapshot.jpg"), but that doesn't work either.

  I'm sure this has been asked a million times, but what is the accepted approach to this? I have been writing php code for a while and up until recently I only copied+pasted javascript code, but now with help from YUI I've begun to understand javascript and want to use it more in an existing web app I have. I want to get various amounts of data from databases etc to the clientside javascript. I have access to this data in my php pages when loading. What is the correct way to get this data to my client side script. Generate clientside javascript in my php or smarty template files inserting the data where I need it? Use an Ajax call to retrieve the information I need from a php file - returning JSON data? Generate a JSON data construct of the data needed by the page and either return it via a script inclusion or dumping it to the generated page? Something really obvious I haven't thought of.

• "input cannot be resolved" when added a try..catch

  I originally tried to get my throw statement to work without a try catch and the userInput = input.nextInt(); line worked fine. But when I tried adding the try..catch it didn't like my input saying it cannot be resolved. I don't think my try..catch is correct yet but I am planning on tackling that after I can get this input to be recognized but I would appreciate any feedback on things you see with that as well.
