• Quickly and Easily Create Folders in Windows By Dragging and Dropping Files

  If you use iOS or Android devices, you’re familiar with the drag-and-drop method of creating folders. If you like that method of grouping files, you can get the same functionality on your Windows PC using a free utility, called Smart Folders. Smart Folders helps you quickly organize your files, such as images, documents, and audio files, without having to create separate folders before you move the files. Simply drag one file on top of another file to create a new folder. • 3 tier architecture in objective-c

  I just finished reading the objective-c developer handbook from apple. So I pretty much know everything that there is to know about objective-c (hee hee hee). I was wondering how do I go about designing a 3-tier application in objective-c. The 3-tiers being a front-end application in Cocoa, a middle-tier in pure objective-c and a back-end (data access also in objective-c and mysql db). I'm not really interested in discussing why I'd need a 3-tier architecture, I'd like to narrow the discussion to the 'how'. For example, can I have 3 separate x-code projects one for each tier? If so how would I link the projects together. In java, I can export each tier as a jar file and form the proper associations.

• Issue with TurnBased Multiplayer Game in Game-kit

  I am working with cocos2d game in which i am implementing Game-kit. My game supports multiplayer option. Actually as given example Raywenderlich link. I am GKTurnBasedMultiplayer class from Game-kit. But now the issue when first player connected to game center and will select option of "Play Now" it automatches for another player. but issue is it directly connects and starts the match, and doesn't wait for another player. I am using [[GCTurnBasedMatchHelper sharedInstance] findMatchWithMinPlayers:2 maxPlayers:4 viewController:viewConroller]; for connecting and playing with other players but directly connects the match. I want to wait for another player. That is the issue. I am also using GCTurnBasedMatchHelper Class.

  Note: this question is an edited excerpt from a blog posting I wrote a few months ago. After placing a link to the blog in a comment on Programmers.SE someone requested that I post a question here so that they could answer it. This posting is my most popular, as people seem to type "I don't get object-oriented programming" into Google a lot. Feel free to answer here, or in a comment at Wordpress. What is object-oriented programming? No one has given me a satisfactory answer. I feel like you will not get a good definition from someone who goes around saying “object” and “object-oriented” with his nose in the air. Nor will you get a good definition from someone who has done nothing but object-oriented programming. No one who understands both procedural and object-oriented programming has ever given me a consistent idea of what an object-oriented program actually does. Can someone please give me their ideas of the advantages of object-oriented programming?

• Compress Large Video Files with DivX / Xvid and AutoGK

  Have you ever recorded home video on a camcorder only to find the video size is enormous? What if you wanted to share a video clip on YouTube or another video sharing site, but the file size was bigger than the maximum upload size? Today we’ll look at a way to compress certain video files, such as MPEG and AVI, with Auto Gordian Knot (AutoGK). AutoGK is a free application that runs on Windows. It supports Mpeg1, Mpeg2, Transport Streams, Vobs, and virtually any codec used for an .AVI file. AutoGK will accept as input the following file types: MPG, MPEG, VOB, VRO, M2V, DAT, IFO, TS, TP, TRP, M2T, and AVI. Files are output as .AVI files and are converted using the DivX or XviD codecs. Installing and Using AutoGK Download and install AutoGK (link below) Open the AutoGK. You’ll need to navigate a few wizard screens, but you can just accept the defaults.   Choose your video file by clicking on the folder to the right of the Input file text box.   Browse for and select your video file and click “Open.”   For this example, we’ll be working with an .AVI file that’s 167MB in size.   The output file is copied into the same directory as the input file by default, but you can change this if you choose. If the input file is also .AVI, AutoGK will append an _agk to the output file so that the original is not overwritten. Next, you’ll see any audio tracks listed. You can unselect the check box if you’d like to remove the audio track. You can choose one of the Predefined size options… Or, select a Custom size in MB or Target Quality in percentage. For our example, we’ll be compressing our 167MB file to 35MB. Click on Advanced Settings. Here you can choose your codec, if you have a preference, as well as output resolution and output audio. If you’d like to use the DivX codec, you’ll need to download and install it separately. (See link below) Typically you’ll want to keep the defaults. Click “OK.” Now you’re ready to add your file conversion job to the Job queue. Click Add Job to add it to the queue. You can add multiple files conversions to the job queue and  convert them in one batch. Click Start to begin the conversion process. The process will begin. You’ll be able to see the progress in the Log window on the bottom left. When the conversion is complete you’ll see a “Job finished” and the total time in the log window.   Check your output file to see it’s compressed size. Test your video just to make sure the output quality is satisfactory.   Note:  Conversion times can vary greatly depending on the size of the file and your computer hardware. Files that are several GBs in size may take several hours to compress. AutoGK is no longer being actively developed but is still a wonderful DivX/XviD conversion tool. It can also be used to compress and convert non-copy protected DVDs. • Freshy Ubuntu 12.10 install (Newbie)

  Hi i just installed ubuntu 12.10 on my ssd(picture below) and i set up my home directory to the 1 TB disc(picture below). I want in general use the ssd as my root folder as u can see, and install only the apps which are necessary. Games and other stuff goes to the 1 TB disc, but this disc shows me in gparted a usage of 14 GB on a freshly install, whats wrong? What about the ssd, do i have to manually optimize things? thx Alex PS: What if i want to install a Game to my home folder, i heard sth. of a symbol link, how to do that?

• SpaceX’s Dragon Spacecraft Docks with the ISS [Video]

  This weekend was the first time a commercial space craft successfully rendezvoused with the International Space Station. Check out this video to see the opening of the hatch. Dragon will remain berthed to Harmony until May 31, enabling the crew to unload supplies for the station’s residents before it is re-grappled and released to return to Earth for a parachute-assisted splashdown in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of southern California. According to this launchpad link, it is present in the ubuntu repositories : https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gflags and http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/libdevel/libgflags-dev But when i try to sudo apt-get install it, I get E: Unable to locate package libgflags-dev Why is this happening ? I have all multiverse and universe enabled from software center. How to install it from apt-get ? P.S. I know i can simply download the binary and make install it, but I want to know how to do this from apt-get.

• Van Gogh’s Starry Night Rendered in Hubble Telescope Images

  The process of making a large image out of mosaic of smaller image “pixels” is certainly nothing new; this rendition of Starry Night using images from the Hubble telescope, however, is a particularly fitting use of the technique. Crafted by Alex H. Parker, a researcher at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, on evenings when cloud cover prevented him from conducting his research, the image is a carefully constructed mosaic of NASA supplied photos from the Hubble telescope program. • [WP7] How to decompile WP7 assemblies

  The other day I wanted to check the source code of the ScrollViewer of WP7. I started Reflector (profit while its still free) and I opened the System.Windows.dll assembly located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\Silverlight\v4.0\Profile\WindowsPhone. When Reflector did the job I was surprised to see that all the methods/properties were empty ! After some investigations, I found out that these assemblys are used by Visual Studio for the Intelisense (among others) and so, for develoment. The thing is I still couldn’t check the ScrollViewer’s source code. Finally after new investigations, I discovered a link on the XDA forum which provide the WP7 emulator dump. I downloaded it and decompiled the GAC_System.Windows_v2_0_5_0_cneutral_1.dll assembly located this time at /SYS/SILVERLIGHT. Et voila, the ScrollViewer’s source code is available. Hope this helps.
