• Rails: Is there a way to check for incomplete JPG file upload?

  I have a Rails app that processes and serves up jpg files that were uploaded via FTP. On several occasions the FTP process was disconnected and left many incomplete .jpg files. I was surprised to see that the incomplete jpgs behave as normal jpg files in my app even tho they have incomplete image data. I have since implemented a more robust FTP process where the uploaded file is initially *.tmp and gets renamed to .jpg after an FTP success code is received. My problem is, I still have all of these incomplete jpg files on the server and can't figure out how to programmatically weed them out. I can actually display them in a view without generating any errors, but there is only a partial image there. I tried RMagick but they all successfully load (using Image.read) and report the valid x & y resolutions. I have so far not been able to determine a way to programmatically differentiate between an incomplete and complete jpg uploaded image. Any ideas?

  I have a strange problem. I need to do something when an item from spinner is selected. I put System.out.println in onItemSelected() but I don't get it in LogCat. I tried with Toast, and I get the same, it doesn't appear. Every time I select an item from spinner, in LogCat I get this warning : Window already focused, ignoring focus gain of: com.android.internal.view.IInputMethodClient$Stub$Proxy@2b1dabd0 Any idea why onItemSelectedListener is not called ?

• Restore and preserve UIViewController pushed from UINavigationController, no storyboard

  I try to restore a simple UIViewController that I pushed from my initial view controller. The first one is preserved, but the second one just disappear when relaunched. I don't use storyboard. I implement the protocol in every view controller and add the restorationIdentifier and restorationClass to each one of them. The second viewController inherit from a third viewController and is initialized from a xib file. I'm not sure if I need to implement the UIViewControllerRestoration to this third since I don't use it directly. • Static Analyzer says I have a leak....why?

  I think this code should be fine but Static Analyzer doesn't like it. I can't figure out why and was hoping that someone could help me understand. The code works fine, the analyzer result just bugs me. Coin *tempCoin = [[Coin alloc] initalize]; self.myCoin = tempCoin; [tempCoin release]; Coin is a generic NSObject and it has an initalize method. myCoin is a property of the current view and is of type Coin. I assume it is telling me I am leaking tempCoin. In my view's .h I have set myCoin as a property with nonatomic,retain. I've tried to autorelease the code as well as this normal release but Static Analyzer continues to say: 1. Method returns an Objective-C object with a +1 retain count (owning reference) 2. Object allocated on line 97 is no longer referenced after this point and has a retain count of +1 (object leaked) Line 97 is the first line that I show.

  Is it possible to close a form while the constructor is executing (or simply to stop it showing at this stage)? • C# NetworkAvailibilityChanged doesn't trigger on disconnect

  My goal is to detect when the Ethernet cable gets disconnected I am attempting to use NetworkChange class but the event NetworkAvailibilityChanged does not trigger when I unplug Ethernet cable. • Zend Framework-where do calls to my methods go? Controller of Model?

  Hi guys, I'm confused about exactly what I should have in my controller and what in my method. Specifically, I have this in the action method: public function upcomingshowsAction() { $gcal = $this->_validateCalendarConnection(); $uncleanedFeedArray = $this->_getCalendarFeed($gcal); $finishedFeedArray = $this->_cleanFeed($uncleanedFeedArray); $this->view->googleArray = $finishedFeedArray; } And then (incorrectly I know), I have my methods still in the bottom of my controller. What I want is to know the exact moment when this update finishes, so I can do something right there, the thing is that I created an indicator of the selected item, and when something moves, I need to update said indicator's position, that's the reason I need it exactly when the tree view updates. Let me know if you know a solution to this. Also, the code is not perfect (DestroyRoom and PersonLeave), but you get the idea. Thanks!

  This task occurs from time to time in my projects. I need to handle a collection of some complex elements, having different attributes, such as login, password_hash, role, etc. And, I need to be able to query that collection, just like I query a table in the database, having only partial data. For example: get all users, with role "user". Or check, if there's a user with login "root" and role "superuser". Removing items, based on same data is also needed. The first attempt I've tried is to use Google collections, Apache collections, and lambdaj. All of them have very similar preicate mechanism, but with a great disadvantage: it is based on iteration, one by one, over the collection of items, which is not good, for often used collections, containing big amounts of data. Could you please suggest me some solution? Thanks.

• How to model and handle presentation DTO's to abstract from complicated domain model?

  Hi I am developing an application that needs to work with a complex domain model using Hibernate. This application uses Spring MVC and using the domain objects in the presentation layer is very messy so I think I should use DTO's that go to and from my service layer so that these match what I need in my views. Now lets assume I have a CarLease entity whose properties are not simple java primitives but it's composed with other entities like Make, Model, etc public class CarLease { private Make make; Private Model model; . . . } most properties are in this fashion and they are selectable using drop down selects on the jsp view, each will post back an ID to the controller. Now considering some standard use cases: create, edit, display How would you go about modeling the presentation DTO's to be used as form backing objects and communication between presentation and service layers?? Would you create a different DTO for each case (create, edit, display), would you make DTO's for the complex attributes? if so where would you translate the ID to entity? how and where would you handle validation, DTO/Domain assembly, what would you return from service layer methods? (create, edit, get) As you can see, I now I will benefit by separating my view from the domain objects (very complex with lots of stuff I don't need.) but I am having a hard time finding any real world examples and best practices for this. I need some architecture guidance from top to bottom, please keep in mind I will use Spring MVC in case that may leverage on your anwser. thanks in advance.

  Okay well I apologize for how sloppy this code is, but I still cant figure out how to post a code tag on here correctly. So I am making an Android application (Java) and i have a scrolling text field. If the user scrolls a long row down and stays at the end when they click the next row and if it is short, it will be scrolled down on that element too even though it may be a 1 line(and non scrollable) row. I was wondering if there is any way I can call something to right after txtLvlInfo.setText to reset the x-scroll value to 0 or something so it is always reset to the top of the content, long or short. Thanks for any help with this and please let me know if I need to clarify more.   Hello, I'm a Delphiholic for quite some time now and lately I was thinking of learning some C# as well, however I'm kinda' "afraid of the unknown", I've done some simple apps as a test drive for C# and I have to admit that I've liked it, HOWEVER I do not really like the IDE... that being said here's the question that I would appreciate if others who went down this path would answer: As a Delphi developer what are the "main basic" changes from the Delphi language(by basic I mean basic -- utility functions, streams, etc.), I'm used to add "System, Classes, Windows" to uses not "use System.XXX.YYY.ZZZ", I'm trying to make a partial equality in my mind from Delphi to C# until I can see where does Delphi go hand-in-hand with C# and so on... I hope the question is pretty clear, if not, do not hesitate to swear me and I'll try to clarify as well as I can :-)

• ASP NET forms Authorization: how to reduce duration?

  I've got a web page which is implementing cookie based ASPNET Forms Authentication. Once the user has logged in the page, he can edit some information using a form which is created using a partialview and returned to him as a dialog for editing. The action linked to the partial view is decorated as follows: [HttpGet] [OutputCache(Duration = 0, VaryByParam = "None")] [Authorize(Roles = "test")] public ActionResult changeTripInfo(int tripID, bool ovride=false) { ... } The problem i am experiencing is the latency between the request and the time when the dialog is shown to the user: time ranges between 800 and 1100 ms which is not justified by the complexity of the form. Investigating with Glimpse turns out that the time to process the AuthorizeAttribute (see snip) sums up to at least 650 ms which is troubling me. Looking at the Sql server log, the call which checks the user roles takes, as expected, virtually nothing (duration 0). How can I reduce this time? Am I missing some optimization?

  I know this has been asked a million times but I think I need to make it a million and one. I am getting "A generic error has occurred in GDI+" when trying to save a new bitmap. • Objective C iPhone performance issue

  Ok guys I am developing an iPhone app I have a Model class which follows a Singleton design pattern. Now I have an NSArray in it which is initialized to around some 1000 NSStrings in the init method. Now I need to use this data in some view controller. so I import Model.h, I create an array of NSString objects in view controller & set the data to it. But now the problem is that now I have 2000 NSStrings currently allocated, which I believe is not a good thing on iPhone due to memory considerations. releasing model object wont help because I've overrided release method to release nothing according to the pattern & I cannot change the design now because now a lot of code works on the assumption of model being a singleton. & in future maybe the initial NSStrings may grow to 2000 or even more & then I'll have 4000 NSStrings allocated at one time .... I am a little confused on how to go about it any suggestions

• Wicket and a rich ajax website: easiest way to do it?

  I want to use Wicket to build an application, but I have some designers that would like to write/maintain the javascript, and they basically expect 1 JS-segment per page, and a global JS-file. I think the most natural way to add javascript in wicket is to add it per component (not per page), which would create problems for those designers (fractioned javascript, and having to write it in java-files). Is there a better way to solve this? (of course, I expect things to work after a partial refresh.) And a second (related) thing they'd like (and I'd like actually) is the possibility to request information in JSON-format through a static link , is this possible in Wicket?

• Android import project errors

  Hey everyone, I'm a beginner, so I'll try my best to explain this problem succinctly. Basically, a friend of mine and I were playing around with the Android SDK, editing a simple RSS reader. We could launch it in the emulator and even install it on our real devices. Fast forward a few days, I'm trying to import the exact same code that was working a few days earlier into Eclipse on my laptop. I tried both importing and new project from existing source. Both return these new errors that we never had originally. I got an error that involved the auto generated "R" file, but I have solved this. Now, I'm getting 3 errors that I have never had before - The method onClick(View) of type new View.OnClickListener(){} must override a superclass method - displayed twice ( 2 different lines) The method onTabChanged(String) of type new TabHost.OnTabChangeListener(){} must override a superclass method My question is this - What would cause the these discrepancies between importing/running on my friends computer and mine? Also, we are both using the latest version of Java/Eclipse Thanks in advance for any insight.
