  i am creating a mysql function which takes in a varchar and change it to a int based on a mapping table. select name, convert_to_code(country) from users where sex = 'male' here, the convert_to_code() function takes in a country name (e.g. Japan, Finland..) and change it to country code which is an integer (e.g. 1001, 2310..) based on a mapping table called country_maping like below: country_name (varchar) | country_code (int) Japan | 1001 Finland | 2310 Canada | 8756 currently, the stored function need to select country_code from country_mapping where country_name = country_name and return the query result. is that possible to create a hash data struct in SP to optimize the process so that it will not need to perform the query for each row matches the where clause. thanks in advance!

• Need an alternative to two left joins.

  Hey guys quick question, I always use left join, but when I left join twice I always get funny results, usually duplicates. I am currently working on a query that Left Joins twice to retrieve the necessary information needed but I was wondering if it were possible to build another select statement in so then I do not need two left joins or two queries or if there were a better way. For example, if I could select the topic.creator in table.topic first AS something, then I could select that variable in users and left join table.scrusersonline. Thanks in advance for any advice. SELECT * FROM scrusersonline LEFT JOIN users ON users.id = scrusersonline.id LEFT JOIN topic ON users.username = topic.creator WHERE scrusersonline.topic_id = '$topic_id' The whole point of this query is to check if the topic.creator is online by retrieving his name from table.topic and matching his id in table.users, then checking if he is in table.scrusersonline. It produces duplicate entries unfortunately and is thus inaccurate in my mind.

• .NET --- Textbox control - wait till user is done typing

  Greetings all, Is there a built in way to know when a user is done typing into a textbox? (Before hitting tab, Or moving the mouse) I have a database query that occurs on the textchanged event and everything works perfectly. However, I noticed that there is a bit of lag of course because if a user is quickly typing into the textbox the program is busy doing a query for each character. So what I was hoping for was a way to see if the user has finished typing. So if they type "a" and stop then an event fires. However, if they type "all the way" the event fires after the y keyup. I have some ideas floating around my head but I'm sure they aren't the most efficient. Like measuring the time since the last textchange event and if it was than a certain value then it would proceed to run the rest of my procedures. let me know what you think. • SQL join to grab data from same table via intermediate table

  Hi Could someone help me with building the following query. I have a table called Sites, and one called Site_H. The two are joined by a foreign key relationship on page_id. So the Sites table contains pages, and the Site_H table shows which pages any given page is a child of by having another foreign key relation back to the site table with a column called ParentOf. So, a page can be have another page as a parent. Other data is stored in the Site_H table such as position etc, hence why it is separated out. I would like a query that returns the details of a page along with the details of its parent page. I just cant quite think about how to structure the SQL. Thanks

  Hi guys, I have this piece of code in javascript: var catId = $.getURLParam("category"); In my asp.net and c# code for "category" query string i use a public const: public const string CATEGORY = "category"; so if i want to change the query string parameter to be "categoryTest" i only change this const and all the code is updated. Now the question is: how can i do something similar for the javascript i have in the same application (so i want to use the same constant)? I mean i want something like this: var catId = $.getURLParam(CQueryStringParameters.CATEGORY); but because there are none asp.net tags, my const is not interpreted... Any workaround?

  Im trying to get all the entrys from a sqlite Database which have the same name as the keys in a Hashtable.   I have a database server in "Europe/London" time zone and my web server in "Europe/Brussels". Since it is summer time now my application server has a 2 hour difference. I would expect the jdbc driver to just set the "unix time" value it gets from the server in the Date object. (a proper solution should work with any timezone combination, not only for db in GMT)

• Expand in linq not loading inner data collections from service.

  I am seeing odd behavior with service queries! I am using MVVM pattern for a silverlight 3 app on 3.5 framework and Dataservices 1.5. The following code eager loads correctly the parent object and the child heirarchy perfectly IF and ONLY IF I am preloading the data. But I would like to fetch a different set of the parent object (and its child heirarchy) on different button clicks. What I am seeing is that on button click, only the parent object is retrieved, and the child heirarchy contains nothing. Any suggestions? Any ideas how to tackle this? Thanks all.   I have 2 squid servers load-balanced with F5 LTMs set up as a reverse proxy. My problem: origin server A hosts domains 1, 2, and 3 origin server B hosts domains 4 and 5. how can I set up squid so that it will cache all vhosts for both servers? my current config: cache_peer serverA parent 80 0 round-robin no-query originserver login=PASS If I add a second line: cache_peer serverB parent 80 0 round-robin no-query originserver login=PASS it only caches domains on serverB, requests for serverA content generate 404 errors. I don't use squid a whole lot, and all help is appreciated. thanks.

• Facebook API returning wrong unread thread count

  I'm trying to query the thread FQL table to get all unread messages, and also the count of unread items in the thread. This is how I query the table: SELECT thread_id,updated_time,snippet,snippet_author,unread FROM thread WHERE folder_id=0 AND unread!=0 From reading the doc to which I linked above, it seems to me that unread should include the count of unread messages in the thread. However, I just tested the above call and Facebook gives me back a value of unread=1, despite the thread in question having 4 unread items. • Active record taking Date.today as yesterday

  I have a strange one.. I am doing something like : tip = find (:first, :conditions => ["last_shown = ? or last_shown is null", Date.today]) And then a little later on I do : tip.last_shown = Date.today tip.save When I look at output of these queries, ActiveRecord is doing the first query with todays date as I would expect. However, the send query, ActiveRecord is setting the last_shown date to be yesterdays date. Why on earth would it do this? I have config.time_zone = 'UTC' in my environment.rb. I can use Time.now.utc.to_date instead of Date.today but it makes no difference.

I'm doing a left join - why is it adding an extra row? Shouldn't it only do that if I add a right join?

  Whilst asking this question asp.net scheduling timed events user murph posted some insightful information: Point about this is that its very, very simple - you have an process for exchange that is performing a clearly defined task and you have a high frequency task that is not doing anything particularly complex, its a straightforward query (select from table where sent = false and send at < value) - probably into temporary table so that you can run a single query update after you've done the sends - that you can optimise the index for. You're not trying to queue up a huge pile of event triggers, just one that fires once a minute and processes things that are due. Is it possible to SELECT data from table X INTO table Y and have the UPDATES that are performed on table Y pushed into table X? I guess the alternative would be that the data gets updated in table Y then an update command can be run on table X based on the data in table Y. What would be the advantage of selecting into another table? Thank you,

What is wrong? ( I have checked the table making sure that the content_ids are there) Note: I think this is more efficient than using subqueries, thoughts?
