  IE8 (on Windows 7) is not rendering the very smallest fonts on our website as small, but rather as normal size (100% of normal text size). However, on a fresh install of Windows 7 (in virtual pc) with fresh IE8 installed, it renders properly. I'm guessing there is some setting afoul. I've checked: Page Zoom 100% Page Text Size : Medium

• javascript "window.history.forward(1);" not working.

  Hi, I'm trying to prevent the back button from working on one of my asp.net mvc pages. I've read a couple of places that if i put "window.history.forward(1);" in my page it will prevent the back button from working on a given page. This is what I did in my page: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { window.history.forward(1); }); </script> It doesn't seem to be working. Am I using this incorrectly or is this approach wrong? thanks.

  Hi, I have a series of frames (4) which are used in a page to create loading of dynamic content through Ajax calls. In each of these frames I target parent level elements and update them with there respective content e.g. $("#loadingGrid1",top.document).show(); $("#frameSkills",top.document).hide(); In jQuery is there a way to instead of targeting specific elements on the parent page multiple times, simply target the page once into a variable e.g. var parentPage=$('#frameSkills',top.document); And then use this variable to apply content like $(parentPage #loadingGrid1).hide() Hope I've explained what I'm after enough. Basically, I'm having to call "top.document" in every jQuery selector I make and it seems like a waste of energy.

• Know if a Website project is recompiling itself in the background?

  A number of team members update a central ASP.NET dev site (Website project, not a Web application type). Some kinds of changes cause a recompile/rebuild in it. The large website takes a while to recompile and we've noticed it will still seemingly serve out dynamic pages before everything is internally updated. During the site's "gestation" period, our mileage varies while hitting it. Sometimes we get a correct page, sometimes an compilation error page that will eventually be served up without a compilation error, and at other times an unexpected hybrid. Is it possible to query an ASP.NET website application to see if it's currently compiling or rebuilding itself? If so I would write a status page that the team could reference when they're getting weird behaviour, so they would know to wait.

• JQuery-code on different content pages

  Hello, I have a site with menu, which reloads content. Content is dynamically loadable, using ajax and php-script. At different content pages I need in different jquery-plugins. But If I'm writing including need plugin directly in some content page, I get a big lags during loading. So, now I'm includgin all plugins into main page... And it's not the best idea... Any suggestion? UPD: I have a div with content. Content is shown with effects (rolling up/down). When part of menu is clicked, I'm sending ajax-responce to the php script, which reads need text from database and returns it to the main page, from which I sent the responce. Than I'm pasting that content into a div and roll id down. So I'll include jquery-plugins in content pages, the animation of rolling will'nt be normal.

  I'm using a stored procedure in a sql database as the data source for a SqlDataSourceControl on my .aspx page. I'm then using the SqlDataSourceControl as the data source for a gridview on my page. Paging is set to true on the gridview. What i would like to do is set the text of a label to the total number of rows in the gridview. I can use this code 'labelRowCount.Text = GridView2.Rows.Count & " layers found" to return the number of results per page, but it doesn't give me the total. I've looked in several places and haven't been successful in finding a solution.

  Hello. My problem is, I need to cURL-load a page that uses Ajax-based search, to get results of that search. And I need to organize a delay between curl_exec() and value returning. In other words, I need to execute curl_exec() for no less than 5 seconds. sleep() seems to stop curl execution and does not work. Will greatly appreciate any hint or clue UPD I don't know how, but on this page http://vkontakte.ru/gsearch.php?section=video&q=sample&name=1, but it requires an account to access curl DOES capture the search made by ajax. But if page tooks too long to load, Ajax returns "action was too fast" error. So I just need to prolong curl execution. Sorry if being unclear.

  Hi All I am developing a user manager which must control access to the detail view of editable items. At present, when a user clicks 'edit', the application queries the link table to check if a user is currently editing that page, if not, it allows access to the page and then inserts a record into the link table preventing another user from editing the same page at the same time. My question is what would the best way to handle the removal of records if say a user exists the browser without saving etc, therefore no action to remove the record. I'm just baffled why it can't connect, because in Phpmyadmin ( a feature on C-panel) it says the database is in localhost.

  Hello, I have a problem: I've add a Jquery UI drag-n-drop widget to my page, but after that I can't type anything into inputs or textareas. I use jQuery 1.4.2 and jQuery UI 1.8rc3, and tiny_mce for convert textareas into WYSIWUG editor (I've tried to disable tiny_mce). When I put $("input").click( function(){ alert('clicked!'); }); - it's working(I have an alert). When I get focused to any input I even can't refresh page by F5 and go to the next element by Tab key. • Trouble with Perfect Scrollbar jQuery

  I'm using the Perfect Scrollbar jQuery app (http://www.yuiazu.net/perfect-scrollbar/) for this site: http://thehummingbirdplace.com/ The scrollbar shows up when you hover over the News section, but it won't scroll down to reveal the content. I've used this scrollbar before successfully, so I'm stumped as to what is different now. I haven't been able to replicate this on a simpler page, when I experiment on another page it either works or just vanishes, so I'm not sure why it is successfully showing up, yet not scrolling on the main page. Any help would be appreciated!!

  I'm dealing with java projects which often result in deeply nested folders (/path/to/project/com/java/lang/whatever, etc) and sometimes want to be able to jump, say, 4 directory levels upwards. Typing cd ../../../.. is a pain, and I don't want to symlink. Is there some flag to cd that lets you go up multiple directory levels (in my head, it would be something like cd -u 4)? Unfortunately I can't find any man page for cd specifically, instead just getting the useless "builtins" page.

  Put simply I have an ajax call that sometimes completes before the page is loaded, so I tried wrapping the callback in $( fn ), but the callback doesn't fire if the page is loaded...   The thing is, I have a log-in page. And, when user enters Username & Password, they must be re-directed to success/failure page. Now, I have placed a "header('location:welcome.php');" after mysql rows are returned. But, it is giving me Header already sent errors, and I don't know much about PHP to do anything about it, let alone understand why it is happening. So, how to you transfer a user to another page after log-in data is verified? Same problem is happening with register, post, comment and search functions in my site.

• Perl scraping script not recognising certain characters

  I have a script that works fine locally but on the server fails. It displays the non-breaking space symbol &nbsp; as ? when printing to standard output. In the parsing of the page, if I try to get rid of non breaking space symbol with s/&nbsp;//g nothing happens, neither getting rid of the question mark s/?//g It seems to stick no matter what. Bizzarely, this is not an issue when running the script locally. Additionally, question marks within a diamond symbol are inserted everywhere (on both the server script and the local script) instead of apostrophes, although at least that is not causing the parsing of the page to break on the local page. Confused, pls help.

  I'm using a jQuery tip plugin to show help tips when the user hovers certain elements of the page. I need to register the plugin events after the page is loaded using css selectors. The problem is I'm using an ASP.NET Update Panel and after the first postback, the tips stop working because the update panel replaces the page content but doesn't rebind the javascript events. I need a way to execute a javascript callback after the Update Panel refreshes its content, so I can rebind the javascript events to have the tips working again. Is there any way to do this?

  I received a SSL cert to use for a Tomcat 6.0 server, ready to use. I configured Tomcat to use it with the following in server.xml: <Connector port="8443" maxThreads="200" scheme="https" secure="true" SSLEnabled="true" keystoreFile="C:\Tomcat 6.0\ssl\cert" keystorePass="*****" clientAuth="false" sslProtocol="TLS"/> I started Tomcat using the command prompt so I could see any error message as they happened. There were none. The results for accessing different URLS: http://localhost - normal page loads fine https://localhost - browser claims page cannot be found https://localhost:8443 - page cannot be found http://localhost:8443 - offers a certificate, after accepted redirects to https://localhost (I suspect the https:// urls initially offer the certificate which is automatically accepted by the browser, as it was issued by Verisign) How to fix? Edit: I've also tried port="443". Same result.

  Hello, I am trying to set up a navigation system that uses GET parameters with no value, example: http://foo.bar/?mainPage takes the visitor to the main page. So I am using if statements and I am wondering if there is a way I can do this without a bunch of if statements? I don't think switch statements would work for this. This is currently what I have: $mainPage = $_GET['mainPage']; $contact = $_GET['contact']; if(isset($mainPage)) { // go to main page } if(isset($contact)) { // go to contact page } I don't want to have to end up writing a ton of if statements, though. • CSS: Fixed background images taller than the browser viewport

  I've got a large photo (940x1210) as the background image for a #page div which wraps around all the content on a site. Since the photo is a headshot, it looks pretty silly tiled, so I've set it not to repeat, and positioned it at 0,0. When the content enclosed by #page is taller than 1210px and the background image is set to scroll, the photo scrolls out of view, but if it's fixed, only the part of the image displayed initially in the browser viewport shows up- either the top half (fixed top left) or bottom half (fixed bottom left). Here's the question: how can I fix the background image to the bottom of #page (or the body) while scrolling through the full height of the image until I get to the bottom?
