• Google Analytics - how to track clicks on a screen?

  Can I track the click of every link, button, dropdown select, etc. on a screen and have it be tracked in Google Analytics? I want to create a page and collect data on which widget the users use most. What about AJAX stuff? What if you're using jQuery or Mootools...can you get the functions to register a fake URL with GA based on user interaction? I use to do this with Flash. Everytime you click a button, it can initiate a fake URL request. I would make urls such as ".../customize/eyes/" or ".../customize/nose", etc. Just wondering if I can do that with Javascript on the page. I've also posted at StackOverflow.

• Setting the SlideShowExtender's Index

  The AJAX SlideShowExtender is pretty useful. It does what it says and works without much fuss. There was one trick I needed it to perform that I could not find natively within the control. That was to set the slide’s current index. With a little JavaScript however I could make the control do what I wanted. The example below assumes a few things. First you already have a SlideShowExtender setup and working (or see this post). Second this SlideShowExtender is on a page all by itself so the index to set the slide to is passed in the URL. The scenario I had was this SSE was showing full images, the index was passed from another page that had a SSE showing thumbnails. It does not have anything else to do with setting the slide index. The code in the pageLoad function sets the index on the slide_currentIndex line. The slider.setCurrentImage() line does pretty much what it says. I added the slider._slider = ‘’ to avoid an error (not a show stopper just a bit annoying). • IIS and content caching

  I'm a web developer and administer of a Windows 2008R2 Could Instance with IIS 7. I recently made an update to our website, but when I revisited the website, the website was being viewed with old stylings. I did a refresh (shift + reload button in Firefox) and of course the website displayed as it should. I didn't worry about it, until my client had the same issue in Safari. So, my question, in general, is, how do I prevent this from happening again, and yet still afford some caching of our site? I noticed we did not have content expiration set up on our webserver sites, so I've set that up, but did I really need to? I've also looked at Etags, and, honestly, it's hard for me to know whether or not I should use them or not. One comment I read somewhere there isn't really any issue with Etags scenarios in IIS (even in webfarms)... but, I dunno. Anybody have any suggestions, links, info? Thanks.

• Preparing for Interview: I feel like, I wanna start coding all data structures again.... Is it a right way to start?

  I started preparing for my interview. I will be graduating this May. Right now, I am doing an internship in an product based company, so I did my fair share of preparation. The thing is, whenever, I try to do something, I always think that I should start everything from page 1. It is sometimes not at all helpful.... For example, reading a programming book from page 1 is not going to helpful, as I never completed one and always stopped half way through or rushed through towards deadlines. I am facing a similar situation now. I feel like, I wanna start coding all data structures from first(I attempted and finished atleast 6-7 last fall, preparing for interview). Now I feel like, I wanna code everything from first, instead of attempting something new.... I am not quite sure, what this is, but this is the way I have been..... LOL

• Editing gtk theme (adding a border)

  I am using a GTK theme which I love except that it doesn't have borders around the windows. If I am on a web page (for example) with a white background and my wallpaper is white I don't know where the web page starts. What is worse, sometimes that type of thing happens with other windows, where I can't tell where the one window start and the other ends. Is there a way to edit GTK themes? More specifically, is there a way to edit a theme so that it will display a border around windows?

• Change the output of the facebook like button [migrated]

  I've tied in the code for the facebook like button from the facebook dev site (I currently use the iframe version) directly into the html of a node (or content post). I want to be able to manipulate what text is sent when someone hits the like button. you can see the site and buttons here www.masteringmoneybasics.org I've tried both the iframe and html5 versions of the button and can't see where to alter what is sent. If there is no way to directly alter what is sent, does anyone know what it looks for in content to be sent so I can structure the node correctly? If you notice, when you like the page, it doesn't get the first sentence of the content, but all content after it, and I've tried putting different content in between the two lines (in its own <p>) and it still grabs the latter. Also how it figures out which image to grab from the page? Most times it doesn't take any image, however twice it's grabbed the middle school image.

Should I create a separate web property? Also, what's the difference between creating a new web property and a new profile? • Will these tool tips get me penalized?

  I have a page of 10 products. Each product has a list of (7) features associated with it. If a user hovers over the name of the feature, (ex., "Moisture resistance), a tooltip description displays. The descriptions ( a sentence or two), are loaded once on the page using Javascript, but the titles are not, so I essentially have a bunch of redundant tool tip titles. I am concerned this will look like keyword stuffing to the bots. Anyone know about this? Maybe I should load the feature titles with javascript as well?

  After one has generated many grid based puzzles like sudoku, kakuro or even plain crosswords and now one has to print them in a book. How does one make a pdf (book file) from them automatically. To explain the question better. One has the puzzle ready in computer format like ..35.6.89 for all nine rows. The dot being the empty cell. How does one convert then to a picture on a PDF page complete with box, automatically without doing them individually and then print a book from the pdf file. As can be seen there are other things also printed on the page all this is done automatically.

• Adding multiplayer to an HTML5 game

  I am interested in making a game that I currently have a co-op experience, however I'm curious as to the best method of implementing this in HTML5. I have made games before using straight C sockets, and also with the Net library for SDL. What are some of my best options for doing this in a canvas-based environment? At present, all I can come up with are either AJAX/database solutions (with a high refresh rate), or somehow implementing a PHP server that would funnel the data through sockets. The overall gameplay would be a 2.5D platformer-ish type of game, so both clients would need to be continually updated with player positions, enemy positions, projectiles, environmental data, etc.

  I need to create a page that requires users to log in with a username / email and password to access it, and then depending on who the user is, they get links to one more files they can download. No need for a 'register' page - users will be added on the back-end. Can anyone recommend the best approach for this? Are there good plugins to handle this kind of thing?   I've worked with SharePoint for some time now, and I like to think that I know all there is to know about it.  Deep down I know that's not true, but it's a fun delusion.  However, I found out yesterday that there is a mechanism in SharePoint called the Scenario Framework that has been around for a while but that I had no idea ever existed.  It is used to maintain state between multi-page web forms and helps manage the navigation between those pages.  If building out multiple-page forms in SharePoint is in your plans, you can find more information about the Scenario Framework on Waldek Mastykarz blog entry on the subject.

• Ubuntu 10.10 screen goes nuts and unreadable

  Running Ubuntu 10.10 in its own partition, also have Oracle Virtualbox 4 with Windows XP. Because i previously had a problem with a dark screen when i let the laptop on and i didn't use it for a long while i had set Power settings to Never sleep, never let the Display sleep. Monitor on install set to Laptop resolution 1400 by 1050, refresh rate 60 Hz, rotation Normal. The problem was when the computer was left on and i returned after about an hour, the screen was unreadable, similar to what used to happen to graphics cards before multisync became normal. So it appears as though the graphics card was asked to use a resolution it couldn't handle and went nuts. I had to power off the system, on restart everything was fine. Thanks for any suggestions. • How to calculate production when player is offline

  What is the best way to do for example food growth based on how many food buildings you have? Lets say I have a webbased game where you can build a farm wich generates 60 food units per hour. A player has 1 farm in his possession. What is the best way to keep on producing these units even when the player is offline? Should I do the math when the player get's back online again? If so..how can I do this without having to save his last online time every 5 seconds so I can do some maths with it when he logs back in (datetime.now - lastonlinetime)? Next thing is when the player is online, should I refresh his resource count every 5 seconds or so by going to the database and back? This would seem weird to do for every logged on player.   Recently I had to create couple SQL Server Reports (SSRS) with optional parameters built in. It took me a while to refresh memory how this can be done. It was very simple to create reports and processes behind, but connecting these two were are little bit challenging – stored procedure was tested and worked fine, but when the report was passing optional parameters it didn’t returned expected results. After tweaking SQL stored procedures and reports parameter options, the following approach turn to be the winning one. 1) Defining report parameters: From Menu bar select ‘View’ and ‘Report Data’ Newly open window should have ‘Parameters’ folder display Right click on this folder and select ‘Add new parameter...’                             Default values need to be added from a query                 A query values need to include ‘’ (empty string) – as highlighted                   2) SQL stored procedure should have CASE statements inside WHERE and it was the only way that a report was getting correct results back.

• Ubuntu One doesn't show captcha in windows 7

  I try to set up a new U1 account in W7. However, the sign on screen reports "There was a problem getting the captcha, reloading" - but nothing seems to happen. I tried it on two different computers (in the same home network). Same result. Anything to do or is U1 for W7 corrupt? Also experiencing this problem. Trying to install latest U1 on brand new Toshiba Win7 laptops at work and the captcha field is simply blank, there is nothing to copy. Tried refresh, restart, reload and different browsers (Firefox 13, IE9) and nothing improved the situtation. Without being able to see the captcha I cannot do anything at all and will have to use silverlight if I can't overcome this.

It only actually tells users how to run JS code on page 311, where users are told of the following solutions: "Client-side JavaScript code is embedded within HTML documents in four ways: Inline, between a pair of <script> and </script> tags From an external file specified by the src attribute in a <script> tag In an HTML event handler attribute, such as onclick or onmouseover In a URL that uses the special javascript: protocol." I was wondering what professional JS developers use to write and test their code: Do they use a good text editor with syntax high-lighting + autocompletion, hit F5 in the browser to reload the page every time they make a change, and use some add-on in the browser to investigate errors? Or are there full-fledged IDE's similar to MS VisualStudio for non-web languages?

  From the moment I got to the airport in Amsterdam, I've been bumping into JavaOne pilgrims today. Finally got to my hotel, after a pretty good flight (and KLM provides great meals, which helps a lot), and a rather long wait at customs (serves me right for getting seat 66C in a plane with 68 rows). And, best of all, on Twitter I've been seeing a few remarks around the Duke's Choice Awards for this year. The references all point to the September - October issue of the Java Magazine, where page 24 shows the following: So, from page 24 onwards, you can read all about the above applications. What's especially cool is that three of the above are applications created on top of the NetBeans Platform! That's AgroSense (farm management software), MICE (NATO system for defense and battle-space operations), and Level One Registration Tool (UN Refugee Agency sofware for managing refugees). • Magento Subscription Form with Image upload

  We have a peculiar requirement and our site is in magento. Requirement We want the user to fill in a personal information form with their image. After that, the user should be redirected to a product subscription page where he can select either 3 month, 6 month or on yearly basis. Now, when the selection is made, the user should make the payment via our payment method. How can I develop this? I am not able to figure it out. Should I go about editing the registration page or what? Let me know how you will deal with such a requirement?
