  Hi, I need to construct an if statement from the data coming from the client as below: conditions: condition1, condition2, condition3, condition4 logical operators: lo1, lo2, lo3 (Possible values: "and" "or") Eg. if condition1 lo1 condition2 lo3 condition4: # Do something I can think of eval/exec but not sure how safe they are!   Hello, So I have the following: var box = $(".MyCheckBox"); if (box[0].checked) { // Do something } else { // Do something else } Is there a better way of doing this using filters or something? I know I can go: $(".MyCheckBox") .filter(function(index) { return this.checked; }) .each(function() { // do something }); But I need to do something in the else statement... easier way of doing this?   Ok, so I was comparing some stuff in my own DSL to Ruby. One construct they both support is this x=["key" => "value"] Knowing the difference between arrays and hashes, I would think this to be illegal, but the result in Ruby is [{"key" => "value"}] Why is this? And with this kinda syntax why can't you do x=("key" => "value") Why is an array a special case for implicitly created hashes?

• Odd behaviour with scala method syntax

  Hi chaps, I hit a bit of a quirk of scala's syntax I don't really understand object Board { def getObjectAt(x:Int, y:Int):Placeable = return locations(x)(y) } works fine. But object Board { def getObjectAt(x:Int, y:Int):Placeable { return locations(x)(y) } } returns the error Board.scala:8: error: illegal start of declaration return locations(x)(y) I found some stuff that says the second form convinces the scala compiler you're trying to specify an expansion to the return type Placeable. Is there a way I can fix this, or should I just avoid specifying a return type here?

  Hi, I'm trying to use Ubuntu for Rails development and I'm liking gedit except the syntax highlighting does not seem to work with out me setting it for each file I open. Should it not recognize a .rb file a ruby file rather than me having to go into the menu and setting it as such? Have I missed a setting somewhere? Thanks

  In C#, I can write something like: using (new MyDisposableClass().MethodA()); The semicolon causes a compiler warning to be shown which states possible mistaken empty statement. I haven't run the above code but won't the method still be called? What uses is there of this type of coding convention?
