  • good practice for string.partition in python

    some case i write code like these: a,temp,b = s.partition('-') i just need to pick the first and 3rd element. temp would never be used. is there a better way to do this? the common case is ,a better way to pick separted element to make a new list? for example i want to make a new list use old list 0,1,3,7 element code would be this: newlist = [oldlist[0],oldlist[1],oldlist[3],oldlist[7]] it's pretty ugly,isn't it?

  • Is there a way to read a c-string and then an int with a single scanf in C?

    Hey, I'm trying to get this function to get the following output with the listed input, the "..." is where I'm not sure what to write: void Question8(void) { char sentence[100]; int grade; scanf(….); printf("%s %d", sentence, grade); } Input: My CS Grade is 1000 Output: My CS Grade is 100 However, the kicker is that I need the scanf to read a c-string and then an int with a single scanf command, is this even possible?

    Is there any pitfalls when using char*'s to write cross platform code that does memory access? I'm working on a play memory allocator to better understand how to debug memmory issues. I have come to believe char*'s are preferable because of the ability to do pointer arithmetic and derefernce them over void*'s, is that true? Do the following assumptions always hold true on different common platforms? sizeof(char) == 1 sizeof(char*) == sizeof(void*) sizeof(char*) == sizeof(size_t)

    Is there a built in equivalent to the .NET framework's DateAdd or AddMonths functions? I'm looking for the easiest, cleanest way to add X month to a Javascript date. I'd rather not handle the rolloing over of the year as done here. or have to write my own function as done here. Is there something built in that is as nice as the .NET Date.AddMonths function? Or something close?

    Hi, Today, i lost a lot of time fixing a stupid error in my code. Very simplified, the problem was this: def f(): return 2 2 == f I forgot to write the parenthesis in the sentence, so I compared a pointer function with a number. Ok, my question: Is there any way to change the interpreter to be more stricted with the code? Show more warnings for example... Thanks ^^

I mean this looks like plain old C, but in Objective-C I would write @"hwsr" if I wanted to make it a string. I want to pass such an "constant" or "enum thing" as argument to an method.

  • jQuery.post not working when using data type json

    I have been trying to utilize json in this jQuery.post because I need to return two values from my executed php. The code was working when I was not implementing json. I need to see if a promo code entered is valid for a particular broker. The two variables I need back are the instant message whether or not it's valid (this is displayed to the user) and I need to update a hidden field that will be used later while updating the database. The jQuery.post does not seem to be firing at all, but the code directly above it (the ajax-loader.gif) is working. I did re-write the whole thing at one point using jQuery.ajax, and had issues there too. Granted, I have probably been looking at this too long and have tried to re-write too many times, but any help is greatly appreciated!!   • What does it mean to flush a socket?

    I don't really know much about sockets except how to read and write to them as if they were files. I know a little about using socket selectors. I don't get why you have to flush a socket, what's actually happening there? The bits just hang out somewhere in memory until they get pushed off? I read some things online about sockets, but it's all very abstract and high level. What's actually happening here?

    I'm trying to write a code for my computer programming class for a project due Monday, and I'm pretty new to Java, but I'm trying to write a program that will first determine if a number the user inputs is even or odd and then determine if the number is prime or not. I'm not sure if I did the algorithm right or not, so if anyone has any corrections on the program to my algorithm or anything else please say so, but my real issue is that the program is refusing to compile. Every time I try, it says it's having an else without if problem.     Hi all, Looking for a creative way to be sure values that come from the getHours, getMinutes, and getSeconds() method for the javascript Date object return "06" instead of 6 (for example). Are there any parameters that I don't know about? Obviously I could write a function that does it by checking the length and prepending a "0" if need be, but I thought there might be something more streamlined than that. Thanks.
