• Mount of File System Failed. -- After upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10

  After upgrading from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 i am getting this message on boot up: Mount of File System Failed. A maintenance shell will now be started. CONTROL-D will terminate this shell and retry. myusername@root:~$ After searching in google,i found out that i have to run the command fsck on the OS partition from ubuntu Live CD.. Here are my questions: 1) I dont know in which partition my ubuntu OS is installed..(Those are not user-friendly drive names to remember right :)) -- Is there any command to know in which partition my ubuntu os is installed? 2) Can i do this from Ubuntu 10.04 live CD? • Where is the Accessibility mouse click lock?

  I've been a user of Linux on the desktop off and on again over the years. I very nearly switched my primary computer to Ubuntu prior to the release of Windows 7. There were a few, but significant issues at the time that prevented wholesale adoption, mostly tethering with my phone and lousy VPN Client. One key component I could count on was the Accessibility features. I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 and am considering giving it another try, but it appears Ubuntu has taken a leap backwards in that it no longer has a click lock feature for the mouse. Basically I need the ability to press and hold the left button to trigger a locking of the button so I can move the mouse by way of a trackpoint with my prosthesis. I absolutely require this feature and it is a deal breaker if it won't work. I've tried the Dwell keys but this is a chaotic control at best. I've never been able to manage a drag of any kind.

• ssh tunnel to a remote CUPS server

  There is a CUPS server beyond a firewall and I'd like to use it's printers. I have ssh access to computers that can access the CUPS server, and can get at the servers web interface by forwarding say port 1631. I cannot forward port 631 as I've not got root access to anything on the servers network. In Ubuntu's 'Printing' control panel, I can enter the address of a server, but I've not been able to connect through the forwarded port (localhost:1631, which is forwarded to the remote CUPS server's 631 port). Any ideas?

  This is the  Ineta Live player without the O’Data Feed.  It is a good example of taking the plain Media Player provided with the Encoder install and re-templating it to make it your own.  It also has a custom scrub control that is added in.  I generally put my tempates in a separate resource file.  On this project, I discovered that I had to include the template at the document level because I needed the ability to attach some code behind to fire change state behaviors.  I could not use the blend xaml behaviors for change state inside the template because the template can’ determine the TargetObject.   Version 1.01 – 6/10/09 (wow how did a week slip by)

  Basically the question is in the title. I'm creating a RTS game and I will need buttons like attack move / attack ground, etc. I am not using any engine. When people do games in OpenGL for android (my case), do they ever use android components to control the game or do they create their components in the game? What are the general recommended approach, if there's any? How about more complex components like scrolling lists of items , etc? • What is the best language to use for building a fulfillment engine [on hold]

  I asked this on stack overflow and was suggested to move it here. I do understand it is a matter of opinion which is exactly what I aim to achieve here... I wanted to know what you think is the best language to write a fulfillment engine in? I cannot provide much detail but I am trying to build a control interface for servers and i wanted to build a program daemon that would process data on the authoritative server and the slave servers( the backbone of the network) with their own daemons running would check regularly(every 5 minutes or so) with the authoritative server and process the commands(securely) I am trying to build this with a minimal footprint(cpu and ram wise for the slaves, authoritative is going to be scalable) and to make it automated so that the user does not have to configure the daemon(installation is automated by the authoritative server) I am leaning away from my usual php set up for simplicity sake. Edit: I am not an expert in any particular language but flexible enough and willing to learn another.

• Doing affiliate program with shops who don't have a program already set up

  I am developing an online shop which has managed to agree with other shops to a comission per sale. Now, the problem, is these other shops don't have any kind of affiliate system. So my question is, is there any way we could arrange an easy way for this? They don't plan to develop anything as they are small shops, so... my only guess right now is to control on my site how many times the links to them have been clicked to have an estimate of potential clients, but don't know how they can know that user came through my site and purchased something. • Energy saving with two batteries (Gigabyte S1080 and similar)

  my today question is: how do I manage a tablet (Gigabyte 1080) with an additional battery in Ubuntu ? The control bar shows two separate batteries but starts to suck all the energy from the secundary battery, not leaving any power in it and ruining it (if I don't remove it earlier), and then starts with the primary battery.   Today's little problem is that I am trying to load user controls from my codebehind like so: Dim myControl As UserControl = Page.LoadControl("~\Modules\Content.ascx")              Controls.Add(myControl)  On running the page myControl is no where to be seen. I wonder why that is? Well after a bit of thought the following come to mind... Am I using the correct code to insert the usercontrol? Is there an alternative available? Does the fact that the usercontrol has a page_load method make a difference? Does the fact that the usercontrol is being called from the page_init method make a difference? Do I need to register the control in my aspx page at design time? I'll be looking to answer these questions as the day goes on!

• wget not respecting my robots.txt. Is there an interceptor?

  I have a website where I post csv files as a free service. Recently I have noticed that wget and libwww have been scraping pretty hard and I was wondering how to circumvent that even if only a little. I have implemented a robots.txt policy. I posted it below.. User-agent: wget Disallow: / User-agent: libwww Disallow: / User-agent: * Disallow: / Issuing a wget from my totally independent ubuntu box shows that wget against my server just doesn't seem to work like so.... http://myserver.com/file.csv Anyway I don't mind people just grabbing the info, I just want to implement some sort of flood control, like a wrapper or an interceptor. Does anyone have a thought about this or could point me in the direction of a resource. I realize that it might not even be possible. Just after some ideas. Janie

• What are the factors that determine the default frequency of a shader call?

  After i have been played for some days with various vertex and fragments shaders seems clear to me that this programs are called by the GPU at every and each rendering cycle, the problem is that I can't really quantify this frequency and I can't tell if is based on some default values or not because I don't have a big collection of hardware right now to do extensive tests. For what i know the answer could be really trivial like "it's the same of the refresh rate of your monitor", but i would like some good answers on that to be clear on this. For instance looks really odd to me that all the techniques used to control the amount of FPS that i have seen until now uses a call for the OpenGL function glutGet(GLUT_ELAPSED_TIME) to retrieve a value in ms about when the rendering started but I have to relies on the CPU to do the math. Why I can't set an FPS value in OpenGL if OpenGL clearly has a counter and a timer/clock? PS I'm referring to OpenGL 3.0+

• Postfix relay all mail through SES except for one sending domain / address

  I'm thinking this is really really super simple, but I can't figure out what I need to do. I don't mess with Postfix much (Just let it run and do its thing) so I've got no idea where to even start with this. We have postfix currently configured to relay all mail out through SES using the code below. We need to modify this so that emails sent from one of our domains (domain.com) DO NOT go through SES. Everything else should continue to flow out through the SES connection. I'm assuming this is like a one line thing but my google skills are not helping me at all. relayhost = email-smtp.us-east-1.amazonaws.com:25 smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtp_sasl_security_options = noanonymous smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd smtp_use_tls = yes smtp_tls_security_level = encrypt smtp_tls_note_starttls_offer = yes smtp_tls_CAfile = /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt smtp_destination_concurrency_limit = 450 Update I have created sender_transport file in /etc/postfix. In it is @domain.com smtp: I then ran this through postmap and placed sender_dependent_default_transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sender_transport above the above block of code and restarted postfix, but still all email is going out through SES. • How to reset Compiz/Unity to defaults?

  I tried to activate some compiz effect via ccsm (I think wobbly windows) and compiz crashed and froze up the screen. So I used the Control+Alt+Backspace keystroke to force logout. Then I logged back in. Unity wasn't there, just a (non-unity) panel at the top with file, edit, and the like. I was able to pull up a terminal and launch ccsm, only to find almost all settings wiped out. I turned everything back on that I thought should be on, but I don't know if I got everything. Also, now whenever I open up a non-maximized window, it opens up in the top left corner with the title bar behind the unity panel. So what I need is a list of everything that needs to be on in ccsm, and a way to get windows to NOT open in the corner, preferably without having to reset unity or compiz.

• Encrypting peer-to-peer application with iptables and stunnel

  I'm running legacy applications in which I do not have access to the source code. These components talk to each other using plaintext on a particular port. I would like to be able to secure the communications between the two or more nodes using something like stunnel to facilitate peer-to-peer communication rather than using a more traditional (and centralized) VPN package like OpenVPN, etc. Ideally, the traffic flow would go like this: app@hostA:1234 tries to open a TCP connection to app@hostB:1234. iptables captures and redirects the traffic on port 1234 to stunnel running on hostA at port 5678. stunnel@hostA negotiates and establishes a connection with stunnel@hostB:4567. stunnel@hostB forwards any decrypted traffic to app@hostB:1234. In essence, I'm trying to set this up to where any outbound traffic (generated on the local machine) to port N forwards through stunnel to port N+1, and the receiving side receives on port N+1, decrypts, and forwards to the local application at port N. I'm not particularly concerned about losing the hostA origin IP address/machine identity when stunnel@hostB forwards to app@hostB because the communications payload contains identifying information. The other trick in this is that normally with stunnel you have a client/server architecture. But this application is much more P2P because nodes can come and go dynamically and hard-coding some kind of "connection = hostN:port" in the stunnel configuration won't work.

• How can I determine the trending pages on my site?

  I'm looking to what what the "hot" pages are on one of my sites. I want to see for various timeframes, what the top-50 pages are. I'm going to create a data feed with this info which will be input to another app. I have Apache logs, and complete control of the machine to install what I want. I'm mostly wondering if there's something out there already that I can use, or if I have to implement it myself, what good algorithms or strategies might be. Thanks.

• Can I use iptables on my Varnish server to forward HTTPS traffic to a specific server?

  We use Varnish as our front-end web cache and load balancer, so we have a Linux server in our development environment, running Varnish with some basic caching and load-balancing rules across a pair of Windows 2008 IIS web servers. We have a wildcard DNS rule that points *.development at this Varnish box, so we can browse http://www.mysite.com.development, http://www.othersite.com.development, etc. The problem is that since Varnish can't handle HTTPS traffic, we can't access https://www.mysite.com.development/ For dev/testing, we don't need any acceleration or load-balancing - all I need is to tell this box to act as a dumb proxy and forward any incoming requests on port 443 to a specific IIS server. I suspect iptables may offer a solution but it's been a long while since I wrote an iptables rule. Some initial hacking has got me as far as iptables -F iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --sport 443 -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 443 -j ACCEPT iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 443 -j DNAT --to 10.0.0.241:443 iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -p tcp -d 10.0.0.241 --dport 443 -j MASQUERADE iptables -A INPUT -j LOG --log-level 4 --log-prefix 'PreRouting ' iptables -A OUTPUT -j LOG --log-level 4 --log-prefix 'PostRouting ' iptables-save > /etc/iptables.rules (where 10.0.0.241 is the IIS box hosting the HTTPS website), but this doesn't appear to be working. To clarify - I realize there's security implications about HTTPS proxying/caching - all I'm looking for is completely transparent IP traffic forwarding. I don't need to decrypt, cache or inspect any of the packets; I just want anything on port 443 to flow through the Linux box to the IIS box behind it as though the Linux box wasn't even there. Any help gratefully received... EDIT: Included full iptables config script.

• What are options for 3rd Party Centralized Software Settings Management?

  I am an architect in an enterprise looking to build a SaaS solution. Our products are distributed over many different deployable containers, Web Services, Web UI's, etc. I am looking for some open-source or 3rd party software solution to manage the settings of our application. These would be similar to the settings you might find in Word or Eclipse or Visual Studio. The settings would control various behaviors and features of the product. (Probably not settings like which database to connect to but more like, should I show line numbers on the page or not by default..). Ideally, we would be able to store values for different dimensions (by tenant, by user, by application environment... ) Because we have so many different deployables, I am looking for a centralized solution that can provide a web service that each of the deployables can get their individual settings from. Does anyone know of a centralized service providing this sort of features or give me some help in searching for an alternative to rolling our own?

I have IT and developer FTE resources available to me but I am trying to build a list of branding, project, and functionality points to review. What guides or lists can/should I use to evaluate this website before I begin adding features, creating new projects, or even redesigning and redeveloping the site? (I have been a webmaster/designer/developer for small, WordPress/Drupal sites for 10 years. I have been an unofficial webmaster (director/content manager) for a large site for 3 years (no direct development control over Sharepoint administration, IIS, or hosting ... but everything else, I did. • "Ubuntu One" Value could not be retrieved. (ValueError: cannot convert float NaN to integer)

  When I try to start Ubuntu one (after the registration) I receive the this error. Plus it keeps saying "loading.." I am using Ubuntu 11.10 freshly installed. I've try to reinstall ubuntuone after remove them from "ubuntu software center" and remove all the entri ubuntuone* from synaptic. Only the last slice of the ubuntu one control panel seems responding and display "Value could not be retrieved. (ValueError: cannot convert float NaN to integer)". After I reinstall completely ubuntu and when I retry, receive the same. tank's

• Two "subdomains" crossing search results

  My question relates to two websites, each of which is a "Calvary Christian College", however in two totally different locations and unrelated to each other entirely (except by name, and domain). All schools in the state are issued a .qld.edu.au, in this case calvary.qld.edu.au and calvarycc.qld.edu.au. Now what's interesting is that these domains are crossing each other in sitelinks for searches such as "calvary christian college townsville" (if you check the sitelinks 2/6 are to a different domain). I've put a demotion in for this ages ago (we control calvary.qld.edu.au), however we're seeing no change on the results page. I have been able to get the owners of calvarycc.qld.edu.au to submit demotions for our domain, which should go in sometime this week. What can we do to tell Google that these websites are not interchangeable, despite both appearing as "subdomains" of qld.edu.au. We can possibly open channels of communication with the administrators of qld.edu.au but will need to tell them what we need to change, and at this point I'm out of ideas.
