  Hi. Actually I am a glad to writing with geekwithblogs service! but I decided to write a blog to improve my skills on different aspects. This post’s title is “Fatal Scroll”. Motivation for this post was the process of changing my blog theme. When I was trying to change the blog theme, encountered a killing scroll in configuration page of blog. you can see the sample in this picture. (10 inch screen) All I saw in my screen without scrolling was that. I tried to change my blog a few times. but the scroll slows down my try !! after all I gave up changing the FK theme!! In my opinion there is a check list for designing efficient and useful forms.(if you care about it!!) First of all, don’t forget wide range of screen sizes and screen resolutions. Second, always consider the cost of checking the changes made in fields. Third, never forget the scroll. scroll should not hide any main functionality (like save in this case). Forth, don’t use real data to preview the result. (like loading full blog to check new theme) and don’t forget didn’t say this list is a definitive list data entry form usability testing!  That’s it! MY FIRST BLOG POST!!

• Oracle 64-bit assembly throws BadImageFormatException when running unit tests

  We recently upgraded to the 64-bit Oracle client. Since then, Visual Studio 2010 unit tests that hit the database (I know, unit tests shouldn't hit the database--they're not perfect) all fail with this error message:Test method MyProject.Test.SomeTest threw exception: System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=4.112.3.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.I resolved this by changing the test settings to run tests in 64-bit. From the Test menu, go to Edit Test Settings, and pick your settings file. Go to Hosts, and change the "Run tests in 32 bit or 64 bit process" dropdown to "Run tests in 64 bit process on 64 bit machine". Now your tests should run.This fix makes me a little nervous. Visual Studio 2010 and earlier seem to change that file for no apparent reason, add more settings files, etc. If you're not paying attention, you could have TestSettings1.testsettings through TestSettings99.testsettings sitting there and never notice the difference. So it's worth making a note of how to change it in case you have to redo it, and being vigilant about files VS tries to add.I'm not entirely clear on why this was even a problem. Isn't that the point of an MSIL assembly, that it's not specific to the hardware it runs on? An IL disassembler can open the Oracle.DataAccess.dll in question, and in its Runtime property, I see the value "v4.0.30319 / x64". So I guess the assembly was specifically build to target 64-bit platforms only, possibly due to a 64-bit-specific difference in the external Oracle client upon which it depends. Most other assemblies, especially in the .NET Framework, list "msil", and a couple list "x86". So I guess this is another entry in the long list of ways Oracle refuses to play nice with Windows and .NET.If this doesn't solve your problem, you can read others' research into this error, and where to change the same test setting in Visual Studio 2012.

• How can I promote clean coding at my workplace?

  I work with a lot of legacy Java and RPG code on an internal company application. As you might expect, a lot of the code is written in many different styles, and often is difficult to read because of poorly named variables, inconsistent formatting, and contradictory comments (if they're there at all). Also, a good amount of code is not robust. Many times code is pushed to production quickly by the more experienced programmers, while code by newer programmers is held back by "code reviews" that IMO are unsatisfactory. (They usually take the form of, "It works, must be ok," than a serious critique of the code.) We have a fair number of production issues, which I feel could be lessened by giving more thought to the original design and testing. I have been working for this company for about 4 months, and have been complimented on my coding style a couple of times. My manager is also a fan of cleaner coding than is the norm. Is it my place to try to push for better style and better defensive coding, or should I simply code in the best way I can, and hope that my example will help others see how cleaner, more robust code (as well as aggressive refactoring) will result in less debugging and change time?

  If you are developing MS MPI applications with Visual Studio 2010, you are probably tired of following some tedious steps for every new C++ project that you create, similar to the following:1. In Solution Explorer, right-click YourProjectName, then click Properties to open the Property Pages dialog box.2. Expand Configuration Properties and then under VC++ Directories place the cursor at the beginning of the list that appears in the Include Directories text box and then specify the location of the MS MPI C header files, followed by a semicolon, e.g.C:\Program Files\Microsoft HPC Pack 2008 SDK\Include;3.   How do you opt into one software license and not the other when the distributor gives the consumer more than one choice? For example I would like to use the DataTables JavaScript library in my web application. According to their web site, "DataTables is dual licensed under the GPL v2 license or a BSD (3-point) license." • Organizing an entity system with external component managers?

  I'm designing a game engine for a top-down multiplayer 2D shooter game, which I want to be reasonably reuseable for other top-down shooter games. At the moment I'm thinking about how something like an entity system in it should be designed. First I thought about this: I have a class called EntityManager. It should implement a method called Update and another one called Draw. The reason for me separating Logic and Rendering is because then I can omit the Draw method if running a standalone server. EntityManager owns a list of objects of type BaseEntity. Each entity owns a list of components such as EntityModel (the drawable representation of an entity), EntityNetworkInterface, and EntityPhysicalBody. EntityManager also owns a list of component managers like EntityRenderManager, EntityNetworkManager and EntityPhysicsManager. Each component manager keeps references to the entity components. There are various reasons for moving this code out of the entity's own class and do it collectively instead. For example, I'm using an external physics library, Box2D, for the game. In Box2D, you first add the bodies and shapes to a world (owned by the EntityPhysicsManager in this case) and add collision callbacks (which would be dispatched to the entity object itself in my system). Then you run a function which simulates everything in the system. I find it hard to find a better solution to do this than doing it in an external component manager like this. Entity creation is done like this: EntityManager implements the method RegisterEntity(entityClass, factory) which registers how to create an entity if that class. It also implements the method CreateEntity(entityClass) which would return an object of type BaseEntity. Well now comes my problem: How would the reference to a component be registered to the component managers? I have no idea how I would reference the component managers from a factory/closure.

  i have tried using ubuntu 10.04 and ubuntu 11.10 and both have the same problem the driver is detected by the additional propriety drivers wizard and after installation , ubuntu can't see except on wireless network which is not mine (and i can't connect to it as it is secured) there are plenty of wireless networks around me but ubuntu can't detect them and if i tried to connect to one of them as if it was hidden connection time out. the command lspci -nvn | grep -i net gives 04:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:4727] (rev 01) 05:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.   Today is the first day of the year so I want to write something very light. Last Year: 2010 Last Year was a blast; really traveled a lot. My family and I went on vacation. There I enjoyed being father, rolling on the floor and playing with my daughter. Here is the list of the countries I visited throughout 2010: Singapore (twice) Malaysia (twice) Sri Lanka (thrice) Nepal (once) United States of America (twice) United Arab Emirates (UAE) (once) My daughter who just completed 1 year on September 1, 2010 has so far visited three countries: Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka, where I have done lots of community activities. • Mirror using apt-mirror and exclud certain sections/categories

  I'm currently using apt-mirror to create a local mirror of the debian repositories. As the mirrored repositories will be used only by machines destined to be headless servers and as an effort to reduce the current mirroring size (around 75GB), categories like games and possibly others will never be needed. How can I go about specifying (on the mirror.list perhaps?) what sections/categories I want to be excluded from the mirroring? Maybe a bit subjective, but apart from games what other sections/categories could be "safely" ignored from the mirroring for my environment purposes? • Game software design

  I have been working on a simple implementation of a card game in object oriented Python/HTML/Javascript and building on the top of Django. At this point the game is in its final stage of development but, while spotting a big issue about how I was keeping the application state (basically using a global variable), I reached the point that I'm stuck. The thing is that ignoring the design flaw, in a single-threaded environment such as under the Django development server, the game works perfectly. While I tried to design classes cleanly and keep methods short I now have in front of me an issue that has been keeping me busy for the last 2 days and that countless print statements and visual debugging hasn't helped me spot. The reason I think has to do with some side-effects of functions and to solve it I've been wondering if maybe refactoring the code entirely with static classes that keep no state and just passing the state around might be a good option to keep side-effects under control. Or maybe trying to program it in a functional programming style (although I'm not sure Python allows for a purely functional style). I feel that now there's already too many layers that the software (which I plan to make incredibly more complex by adding non trivial features) has already become unmanageable. How would you suggest I re-take control of my code-base that (despite being still only at < 1000 LOC) seems to have taken a life of its own?

• FileOpenPicker/FileSavePicker doesn't allow *.* wildcard file associations

  On Twitter, Matthias Jauernig commented that the FileOpenPicker and FileSavePicker doesn't allow *.* wildcard file associations. I was relaxed about this and wrote back that it was related to sandboxing implying it was a "good thing", however as Matthias commented back, perhaps it's not.In Metro-style the sandboxing works that if something gives you a file (e.g. the picker, or a share operation), you can access it regardless of where on the system. If you find the file yourself, you have to declare the type.The reason why I think it's related to sandboxing is because if you work with files programmatically you have to be explicit about the file types. This is to stop malware that you think is only interested in - say .PDF files, scanning and uploading any .EML files that it can find on the machine. It follows then on the pickers that restriction would continue. It allow's the retail store team to validate that an app is likely to behave itself. If it's an app that works with images, locking down the picker so that it can only access image file types makes sense.However Matthias mentioned that he has an app that should allow files of any arbitrary file. That fits more into the "if the user selects it, it must be OK" camp than the "programmatic scanning" camp. So now I'm left wondering why the picker doesn't allow any type to be selected.I think then maybe the decision comes down to simplicity. A lot of the decisions in Metro-style design relate to ideas about "zero intimidation". Allow the user to select any file is too much like Old Windows, and not enough like Reimagined Windows. What happens in Matthias's app if the user selects Explorer.exe as the file he or she wants to work with? I guess it's fine if you expect your user to know what they're doing (Old Windows), but not so fine if you're expecting a three year old to work with it (Reimagined Windows).

• Ubuntu 12.04 LTS loops the login screen unless you login as Guest

  I am running a VMWare Player with a Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangloin as Guest on my Windows 7. Sometimes I get the shutdown blue screen error in Windows, this time it happened when I was running the Player. When I restarted everything Ubuntu gave the not so unfamiliar in this forum Login Loop in adminstrator login. I login and there's this black screen where I can only read: "piix4...smbus:0.0.0.07.3 Host Smbus controller not enabled" . When I go to the Prompt in root mode it fails to update and only upgraded, specially some plugins ( I think graphic plugins) which also appear in one an error message after quitting the prompt, but they´are successfully installed. They are not the error message. After that I have been working with the Fail/safe Mode recovery panel. When I try to update via Root I get errors like this: W:failed to fetch http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise/release.gpg could not resolve 'extras/ubuntu.com There are 8 more like this referring to areas like: -archive/canonical.com -ppa.Launchpad.net -security.Ubuntu.com -Us.archive.ubuntu.com - release.gpg precise-updates/release.gpg precise_backport/release.gpg Final Message: some index files failed to download.....they have been ignored or old files are used. The black screens most of the time pass by too fast for me to pick up any information. But in general I think I have done everything I was able to in the recovery panel including updating network and graphic packages and recovering filesystem packages and the basic stuff ( I am a beginner regarding Linux ) in the root prompt. Now I am stuck in this screen with graphic options: - Run in low-graphics mode just for one session - Reconfigure Graphics - Troubleshoot the error - Exit to console login I am trying to choose to reconfigure graphics but the mouse disappears in the virtual machine screen and sometimes when options change ity´s only the first and last option. ut this happens from the blue without messages. This particular option menu is in the regular GUI style against a black screen in Terminal style. Really strange. Thanx in advance, all is welcome and appreciated.

• How to read Scala code with lots of implicits?

Container(0) ) } I understand what it does on high level. But I wanted to trace what exactly happens during the call to d.traverse at the end. Clearly, List doesn't have traverse, so it must be implicitly converted to another type that does. Even though I spent a considerable amount of time trying to find out, I wasn't very successful. First I found that there is a method in scalaz.Traversable traverse[F[_], A, B] (f: (A) => F[B], t: T[A])(implicit arg0: Applicative[F]): F[T[B]] but clearly this is not it (although it's most likely that "my" traverse is implemented using this one). After a lot of searching, I grepped scalaz source codes and I found scalaz.MA's method traverse[F[_], B] (f: (A) => F[B])(implicit a: Applicative[F], t: Traverse[M]): F[M[B]] which seems to be very close. Still I'm missing to what List is converted in my example and if it uses MA.traverse or something else. The question is: What procedure should I follow to find out what exactly is called at d.traverse? Having even such a simple code that is so hard analyze seems to me like a big problem. Am I missing something very simple? How should I proceed when I want to understand such code that uses a lot of imported implicits? Is there some way to ask the compiler what implicits it used? Or is there something like Hoogle for Scala so that I can search for a method just by its name?

This should be enabled by default and takes manual intervention to remove it. With this component enabled, the following happens: If you are presented with a certificate issued by an untrusted root authority, your computer will contact the Windows Update Web site to see if Microsoft has added the CA to its list of trusted authorities. If it has been added to the Microsoft list of trusted authorities, its certificate will automatically be added to your trusted certificate store. If the component is not installed and a certificate from an untrusted CA is encountered then the following text will be seen: This is an inconvenience for the person browsing the site as they need to click to continue. Applications, though, will be unable to proceed and will throw an exception. Example: ERROR_WINHTTP_SECURE_FAILURE 12175 (0x00002F8F) One or more errors were found in the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate sent by the server. If you look at the certificate’s properties, you can see the “Issued by:” value:   This must match a Trusted Root Certificate Authority in the current user’s certificate store.   So turn on automatic updating of trusted root authority certificates. For Windows Vista and above, this option is controlled through Group Policy. • Organizing Connections with Folders in Oracle SQL Developer

  How many Oracle databases do you work with on a regular basis? I’m guessing the answer for most of you lies between 1 and 500. This post is really geared for those of you who deal with more than just a handful (5) of database connections. Filters are nice when you need to work with a subset of table data, or even a list of tables. So why wouldn’t they be just as useful for organizing your connections? Here’s my complete list of databases: The folders aren’t there by default, you add them as you need them. Now this isn’t an overly large connection list. But when I need to fire up an impromptu demo for a customer, it’s very nice to be able to drill down into JUST those ‘safe’ environments. This actually saves me a few seconds every time I need to connect to one of my databases. So while it’s a very simple feature, it’s one of those things that I recommend EVERYONE take advantage of as it will save them hours of time over the long haul. Easier to find means I get to work a few seconds faster. This also helps me from making mistakes in ‘production’ environments! How to Add a Connection Folder Select a connection you want to organize. Mouse-right-click, and choose ‘Add to folder.’ You can throw it into a new container or an existing one. Lather, rinse, and repeat as necessary. The only trick is remembering to right-click!
