  • Will a standard CMS on a shared web hosting account work for this?

    I have two questions concerning CMS's that I need answered if possible: I need to create a site with a Database. This site will in due time have lots of traffic and many users if things go as planned. Is it better to have the CMS on a shared web hosting account or is it better to have a dedicated server for this? The site I want to create needs to be able to create groups where each group has its own admin. The admin of the group decides the content that each member can view/access. The information of one group can be shared to other groups as well. This means that only the information content is shared but not the group's member data. Should I use a single or multiple databases for this problem? Is this something that can be done using standard CMS systems out there. or should I try to build one myself?

  • Global variable in a Linux shared library

    Suppose we have the following setup under Linux, .so library named "libcnt.so" and 3 user space apps: "app1", "app2", "app3". This library does 1 simple thing, it says to the app (app dynamically links the library at runtime) by how many apps it is already linked. Apps should have access to link counter. My knowledge in C and Linux is somewhat limited in this aspect, but as I understand this information should be stored in a global variable inside the shared object. Something like: in libcnt.h extern int cnt_loads; in libcnt.c int cnt_loads = 0; // where each linking increments this counter or something... So, my question is how it should be declared and/or defined inside .so library to guaranty that multiple apps from user space get the same instance of that variable counter?

    Possible Duplicate: The SEO Benefit of Breaking Up Content Onto Different Websites I was wondering if (assuming all your content is related) it would be better to put all your content under a single domain or multiple domains that link to each other. Lets say I have Site A which doesn't have a good search ranking. If I have a new product that I'm sure could get a good ranking on its own would I get a better search ranking for Site A if I - Add the new product as a new section to Site A. Or put the product on new Site B and link back to Site A. To give you an example if you were developing a few browser plugins would it be better (in terms of ranking) to showcase them all in the same site, or would you give them each their own domain's that link to each other?   • Java EE @ NFJS Central Iowa Software Symposium Des Moines

    As some of you may be aware I recently joined the well-respected US based No Fluff Just Stuff (NFJS) Tour. The NFJS Central Iowa Software Symposium was held August 8 - 10 in Des Moines. The Des Moines show is one of the smaller ones but still was good overall. It is one of the few events of it's kind that take place this part the country so it is extremely important. I had five talks total over two days, more or less back-to-back. I had decent attendance for all my sessions and had many of the same folks staying for multiple sessions which is always a very good sign. I did talks on Java EE 7/Java EE 8, WebSocket, the Cargo Tracker Java EE Blue Prints, JavaScript + Java EE and NoSQL + Java EE.   • Terminal echo issue

    I've been using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS for a while, am quite new, using the terminal, made a script to open a project of mine containing multiple files with gedit - after execution of the respective script - gedit [filename1] [filename2] ... , terminal executes it successfully, gedit opens passed files and terminal is ready for another line. Well, today I came across a strange issue - after the execution of the above mentioned script, gedit initiates successfully, but terminal denies execution of commands and echoes all keyboard events, even specific ctrl+... functions - all until gedit is closed. I can't figure what caused this as my recent activity was focused around a C project, not regarding the terminal in any way. I recall being able to execute another line after initiating e.g. open gedit and compile a project within a single tab and session of a terminal window. Any help would be appreciated! Regards!

  • Joomla: How can I prevent certain user from visiting a certain page?

    I have an internal section in my Joomla only for "Registered" users. There they can edit preferences. Multiple users can access the same preferences (different stakeholders). Now I have "smithcorp" and "smithcorp_guest". They should both be able to view the same things, but "smithcorp_guest" shouldn't be able to edit the preferences. Is there a way to forbid "smithcorp_guest" access to this page? I have only seen access regulation via the user level, i.e. unregistered, registered, admin.

  • I need to get past my permissions to recover data

    Due to some mishaps, I am unable to boot into Kubuntu at all. However, my data is still on the hard drive. I managed to get one of the other two computers to which I have access to read the disk by booting into a liveCD session of kubuntu. The only storage medium to which I have access is a 30 GB data stick. Here's where the trouble starts: In music alone, I have to back up about 60 GB. Obviously this is going to have to be split into chunks and moved over to the second spare PC until I can reinstall Kubuntu on my laptop. All of the data that needs backed up is behind a permissions wall, so while I can view it, I can't interact with it directly. I know copying and moving through the terminal can get around this with sudo cp or sudo mv, but is there a way to first compress multiple folders in a single archive, then move it? (While we're on the subject, what compression method would be best for large volumes of music in MP3, WAV, and OGG format?)

  • Ubuntu 12.04 Nvidia GTX 460 video card installation

    Currently testing Ubuntu 12.04 x64 for our development team. After upgrading from 11.10 I've been having video card issues. I'm using Nvidia GeForce GTX 460. When ever I try to launch Nvidia X server I get the following error message. You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run nvidia-xconfig as root), and restart the X server. I've tried running sudo nvidia-xconfig multiple times and rebooting with no success. I've also tried getting the nvidia-current driver from the x-swat repo sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-current Followed again by a reboot did nothing for me but knock my resolution down to 800x600 Finally I've tried sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg xserver-xorg-video-all sudo reboot Does anyone have any thoughts or directions they could point me in? To the best of my understanding my video card is suppose to be supported.

    I am using google custom search for my site, I want google to provide at most 2 searches from a site. I am not sure whether it is possible or not but it seems there is no such option on google CSE. For example my CSE has 10 listed sites, what I want is that whenever user makes a search then search results should show at most two links from a site. In general CSE is resulting multiple results from one site only and those comes on page 1, if it is at most 2 from a site then user has better chance to have links from other sites too.

  • What is a good scripting language for FTP downloading

    I need to develop some scripts for downloading files from a remote server to our file system. We need to grab files that have various timestamps, and place them into appropriate folders on our system. I'm probably opening quite the can of worms here, but which scripting language would be the best for getting this done? Right now I am using C Shell, which is working fine, but it is requiring multiple scripts because of the use of the ftp command. I wanted to know if there is a better option before I go too far into this project. There are no security concerns within the scripts as far as FTP accounts (public access FTP)

  • Maven error: Unable to get resource / Server redirected too many times

    Our proxy went down and I tried to update dependencies with maven while it was off. Since then I can't download anything with maven. I get this error for everything. I tried -U option, deleting my local repository and tried different maven version (2.0.9, 2.2.1) but it doesn't work. Any idea how to solve this? Earlier it also said 'repository will be blacklisted' to all of them.   • OS X, Mercurial and MediaTemple problem

    I've installed Mercurial per MT's knowledge base file here. Working with it server side using ssh from my Mac works fine. I can initialize repositories and the like, but pulling from the server or pushing from my Mac produces an error I don't understand.     I have an Entity Framework data model. Part of the model is a Customer entity. The web service provides a method to get a customer, and to receive an updated version of this customer to be persisted. To test this, I created a new ASP.NET web Application, (Solution Add New Project ASP.NET Web Application), then added a reference to my service reference using the standard Add Service Reference dialog. I then call the service using the following code: var client = new CustomerServiceClient(); var customer = client.GetCustomerByID(18); // get it customer.LimitDown = 100; // change it client.SaveCustomer(customer); // persist it Everything works as expected. Now, I do exactly the same thing, but this time with as ASP.NET Web Site (Solution Add New Web Site ASP.NET Web Site).     This smells like a serverfault question, yet there are many similar questions here. Your call. I'm setting up Mercurial over IIS6, and thanks to a number of detailed blogs, it's working fine — almost. I can browse and clone the repositories fine, but this is what happens when I try to push: D:\sample2>hg push pushing to http://localhost/hg/sample2 searching for changes abort: HTTP Error 500: Permission denied: .hg\store\lock First of all, there is no such file or folder. Second, the App Pool's logon has total permission on the repository's parent directory, with these inherited ad infinitum. The repository is located on another logical drive (on the same machine), and if I push to it directly, that also works: D:\sample2>hg push e:\hg\sample2 pushing to e:\hg\sample2 searching for changes adding changesets adding manifests adding file changes added 1 changesets with 1 changes to 1 files If I change the password in my hgrc, the message indicates a failed authorization, so I believe that's working. I've been fighting this for a couple of days, so any leads would be helpful. Thanks!

  • Migrating complex SVN branch hierarchy to Mercurial

    Our team has been using SVN for managing an application of decent size and over time a rather complex hierarchy of branches and tags has built up, which is following the basic standard layout for SVN repositories, but is more nested: |-trunk |-branches | |-releases | | |-releaseA | | `-releaseB | `-features | |-featureX | `-featureY |-tags |-releaseA | |-beta | `-RTP `-releaseB |-beta `-RTP (The feature branches are obviously temporary branches but we have to take them into consideration as it won't be feasible to close all of them at once in the near future) For several reasons but primarily because merges have been becoming an increasing pain, we are considering to switch to Mercurial. The main problem we are currently facing is migrating the existing code base without losing our history. I've tried several migration tools (e.g., yasvn2hg, hg convert and svn2hg) with yasvn2hg being the most promising, but none of them seem to be able to deal with nested hierarchies but they all assume that branches and tags are organized in one flat directory respectively. The choice between named branches or clones as the conversion target of old SVN branches is not a limiting factor in this case, as either solution would be appreciated. We are currently experimenting with both options and how they would fit into our current processes but haven't decided on one yet. I'd obviously be interested in recommendations or experiences with similar setups concerning that issue as well. So, what is the best way to convert a nested SVN branch hierarchy like this to Mercurial? Converting one branch at a time into a separate repository would be quite annoying and I am not sure if that would be the right approach in the first place, depending on how the tools handle historic merges and need to be aware of all other branches?

    Newbie question since I'm not up to speed using maven at all. I'm trying to use scala + lift using scala 2.8, environment is a win7 box if that matters.     My organisation is getting into the SOA world (a bit late, but that's what it's like here!) and we're looking into the ESB Toolkit 2.0 (we already have BizTalk Server 2009). We're keen on implementing UDDI (specifically, the UDDI Services v3.0 that ships with BTS 2009), but we're low on actual UDDI experience. We want to manage the ever-burgeoning number of web services we have across all our environments. What are the best practices for implementing UDDI? For example:- Would you implement a single highly-available resilient UDDI server that hosts all services and bindings, including test environment versions? Or would you implement separate UDDI repositories for test and production environments? I'm aware of the Oasis Technical Note v2.0 on WSDL and UDDI, but does anyone actually implement that? I.e. the abstract parts of the WSDL as tModels, the implementation parts of the WSDL as bindings? Would you go to the effort of capturing non-web service endpoints in UDDI, or just use it for WSDL? What are the "gotchas"?

  • Best practice for structuring a new large ASP.NET MVC2 plus EF4 VS2010 solution?

    Hi, we are building a new web application using Microsoft ASP.NET MVC2 and Entity Framework 4. Although I am sure there is not one right answer to my question, we are struggling to agree a VS2010 solution structure. The application will use SQL Server 2008 with a possible future Azure cloud version. We are using EF4 with T4 POCOs (model-first) and accessing a number of third-party web-services. We will also be connecting to a number of external messaging systems. UI is based on standard ASP.NET (MVC) with jQuery. In future we may deliver a Silverlight/WPF version - as well as mobile. So put simply, we start with a VS2010 blank solution - then what? I have suggested 4 folders Data (the EF edmx file etc), Domain (entities, repositories), Services (web-services access), Presentation (web ui etc). However under Presentation, creating the ASP.NET MVC2 project obviously creates it's own Models folder etc and it just doesn't seem to fit too well in this proposed structure. I'm also missing a business layer (or does this sit in the domain?). Again I am sure there is no one right way to do it, but I'd really appreciate your views on this. Thanks

My repository classes (in my data project) take an ISession in the constructor: public class ProductRepository : IProductRepository { private ISession _session; public ProductRepository(ISession session) { _session = session; } In my global.asax I expose the current session and am creating and disposing session on beginrequest and endrequest (this is where I have the dependency on NHibernate): public static ISessionFactory SessionFactory = CreateSessionFactory(); private static ISessionFactory CreateSessionFactory() { return new Configuration() .Configure() .BuildSessionFactory(); } protected MvcApplication() { BeginRequest += delegate { CurrentSessionContext.Bind(SessionFactory.OpenSession()); }; EndRequest += delegate { CurrentSessionContext.Unbind(SessionFactory).Dispose(); }; } And finally my StructureMap registry: public AppRegistry() { For<ISession>().TheDefault .Is.ConstructedBy(x => MvcApplication.SessionFactory.GetCurrentSession()); For<IProductRepository>().Use<ProductRepository>(); } It would seem I need my own generic implementations of ISession and ISessionFactory that I can use in my web project and inject into my repositories?   • How to use iPhone SDK Private APIs

    I haven't found a comprehensive list of the steps that are required to use a private API from the iPhone Library. In particular, I would like to know how to get header files, if they are even required, how to get it to compile (when I simply add the header, it complains that the functions aren't defined), and what resources one can use to learn about private APIs (e.g. from other user's experiences, such as http://iphonedevwiki.net/ which has a few). I've read in other places that people recommend using class-dump to get the headers. Are there any alternative methods? I've noticed that there are some repositories of iPhone Private SDKs, what are the most up to date resources you would recommend? Most of the previous questions about documentation of private APIs, have all linked to Erica Sadun's website, which doesn't seem to have documentation anymore (all the links on the left are crossed out). Please save the comments about not using private API's... I know of the biggest risks: App will get rejected by Apple. App will break in future updates to the OS. I'm talking about legitimate uses, such as: Private application use (e.g. for unit testing, or messing around to see what's possible)
