• HP Jetdirect 175x and HP Officejet K7103 printsharing

  I have managed to get this setup working , but it is very unreliable and either the printserver or the printer seem to crash and wont respond after 1 or 2 prints, although I am able to still access the web config of the 175x. I had a similar problem with a linksys wireless print server with the same problem and assumed that a HP print server would do the job better...grrrr!! Anybody any ideas what to do next? It is not possible to flash the printserver, nor the printer as far as I know, so I assume I have some iffy settings in the print server config somewhre. All our users are W7 or Vista BTW.   I have a problem with my freeradius server configuration. I want to be able to authenticate users against Windows ActiveDirectory (2008 R2) and the users file, because some of my co-workers are not listed in AD. We use the freeradius server to authenticate WLAN users. • Linux IPTables / routing issue

  Hi all, EDIT 1/3/10 22:00 GMT - rewrote some of it after further investigation It has been a while since I looked at IPtables and I seem to be worse than before as I can not seem to get my webserver online. Below is my firewall rules on the gateway server that is running the dhcp server accessing the net. The webserver is inside my network on a static IP (192.168.0.98, default port). When I use Nmap or GRC.com I see that port 80 is open on the gateway server but when I browse to it, (via public URL. http://www.houseofhawkins.com) it always fails with a connection error, (nmap cannot connect and figure out what the web server is either). I can nmap the webserver and browse to it just fine via same IP inside my network. I believe it is my IPTable rules that are not letting it through. Internally I can route all my requests. Each machine can browse to the website and traffic works just fine. I can MSTSC / ssh to all the webservers internally and they inturn can connect to the web. The network looked something like this: I have now replaced the sky modem with a dlink modem which gives the IP to the gateway server that now does the DHCP. It looks like: The internet connection is a standard broadband connection with a dynamic IP, (use zoneedit.com to keep it updated). I have tried it on each of the webservers(one Ubuntu Apache server and one WS2008 IIS7). I think there must also be an issue with my IPTable rules as it can route to my win7 box which has the default IIS7 page and that would not display when I forwarded all port 80 to it. • DBan not working because disk has bad sectors?

  Attempting to wipe the drive of a laptop that I have before it's sold, and normally use DBAN to do so. However this time it starts and then finishes instantly with the following message. "DBAN finished with non-fatal errors This is usually cause by disks with bad sectors" Have tried multiple flags such as noverify to force it to skip this check (it doesn't show bad sectors in the OS scan in windows). but the error always comes back. This is the only time that I've seen this message, as every other of the few drives I've used this software on usually take 3-5 hours to do their job.

• automysqlbackup not working weirdly on shared host

  I'm on HostGator and I have not-root-level SSH access. I manually setup automysqlbackup in a /home/user/automysqlbackup folder. Created a file called runbackup in the same folder, chmod +x'ed it. The content : /home/user/automysqlbackup/automysqlbackup /home/user/automysqlbackup/myserver.conf Now, when I run ./runbackup from shell, no email is sent. I've setup a daily cron job. The crontab line reads - 24 06 * * * /home/user/automysqlbackup/runbackup When the crontab is run, I do get an email, but, the subject is WARNING: Error Reported - MySQL Backup Log and SQL Files for localhost - 012-03-19_06h24m The email does have an attachment, but it just has the SQL for creating tables. No data in the several rows at all. I don't know what wrong I'm doing and this is freaking me out! I tried writing a custom script as well, using this guide, but mutt doesn't send email, then. The OS used by HostGator is CentOS.

  Following the instructions here: http://linuxdevcenter.com/pub/a/linux/lpt/20_08.html I'm aiming to tar up a directory but only want to include .php files from that directory. Given the aforementioned instructions, I've come up with this command. It creates a file called IncludeTheseFiles which lists all the .php files, then the tar is supposed to do it's job only using the files listed in IncludeTheseFiles find myProjectDirectory -type f -print | \ egrep '(\.[php]|[Mm]akefile)$' > IncludeTheseFiles tar cvf myProjectTarName -I IncludeTheseFiles However, when I run this it doesn't like the I include option? tar: invalid option -- I

• Wifi ap finder/selector for windows 7

  Is there wifi finder program for windows 7 that can let me choose specific access points to connect to? In my school, the wifi network uses the same SSID for numerous access points and usually the default wifi finder in Windows 7 connects to the first one. Even if it connects to the closest one with the best signal, there are times when a specific access point will not work. Machine: Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 running Windows 7 (32bit) Note: On my ThinkPad, I've got access connection that does the job but that didn't seem to work on the IdeaPad the last time I tried.

• redirect traffic to www.example.com through DNS from example.com

  Hello, I have a bit of a unique problem. for the domain (example.com) I want people to go to www.example.com however I'm also throwing GSLB into the mix. for GSLB the devices(one in each datacenter) need to be the nameserver for portion of the domain that they are going to answer for(www.example.com) so I know I can make the NS record of www.example.com just fine and have it point to each GSLB device. However that only helps for www.example.com NOT example.com. I don't want to make my root NS of example.com my GSLB as my enterprise managed DNS provider does an excellent job of all DNS stuff. any ideas?

  I have two identically configured CentOS 5 servers (possibly more in the future). I need to run a cron job on any one of them and that it'll run only on one of them. I know about RedHat Cluster Suite (we use it on other servers), but it's a too big a gun to use for this task, plus it doesn't really behave well for less than three nodes. Is there anything light-weight I can use for that? The servers can communicate with each other directly. I suppose I can develope something over ssh or nrpe (two server which are already installed on these servers), but I was wondering whether there is something already available.

  Problem: we've grown to the point where we need a real DBA. Real DBAs are hard to find. Possible solution: I know someone with extensive experience (currently working on MSSQL) who is looking for a new DBA job. He might be willing to consider working for a MySQL shop (I haven't asked). Snag: I don't know to what extent MSSQL DBA skills map to MySQL DBA skills. I'm a developer, so I know enough about MySQL to develop apps which use it (including the basic performance-tuning, index selection, etc.), do schema design, and perform simple utility tasks (backup with mysqldump, scripting, etc.). I don't know anything about MSSQL. Nor do I actually know much about the boundaries of the DBA role. Can anyone with more experience - perhaps as a DBA - weigh in on this? Are there enough similarities between MSSQL and MySQL that it's worth asking a MSSQL DBA if he'd be interested in applying for a MySQL position?

• How do I copy/clone a dynamic disk in Windows 7?

  I have some dynamic disks (or "partitions" but they are not really partitions) that I want to copy onto spare hard drives. I tried using gpartd (and fdisk for that matter) from a linux live disc. All it saw was hard drives with only one partition encasing the whole hard drive. So gpartd/fdisk is incapable of identifying the dynamic "partitions" and allowing me to copy them. Any tools that can be used to clone/copy a dynamic "partition"? (I'm open to commercial software suggestions if they can do the job).

• Coldfusion 8 crash

  I have a very big problem with coldfusion 8 on Windows server 2008 with IIS7. They are in production server and sometimes the the site is not available, I have to manually end the jrun.exe process from task manager and then the site is available. I realize that the process jrun.exe has abut 1.3Gb of memory used at the time it crash's. It happens 2-3 times a day, I have looking in the coldfusion logs and I did not found anything strange beside some warnings that some job exceeded the 300 sec of time execution. I forgot to mention that coldfusion is a 32bit application but the windows is a 64bit, this may be the problem? I'm not such good in coldfusion, so If someone knows how to troubleshoot please let me know Thanks!

• LINKED TABLES BETWEEN MS ACCESS 2003 AND MS ACCESS 2007-WRITE PERMISSIONS DENIED

  We are in the process of switching over to ACCESS 2007. We have numerous data tables in ACCESS 2003 files. In one case, the user has 2007 on his PC and opend the front end in 2007. No problems. When the the user is done, he clicks a button that executes a macro full of update queries. The macro reaches the first query and halts. We get a messge saying we do not have permisons to write to this linked table (2003 format). There were no security files involved. We re-linked from 2007, same problem. LAN permssions were ok. I wound up having to import the tables to front end in order for the user to be able to do his job.

• Make my git user and apache user have read/write/delete access

  I am having permission problems on my server. I use user developer to pull my git repository on the server. Then apache uses its own apache user to do write and execute code. I always have the problems when the app wants to write something in the directory (i.e: log files, and cache ...) if I execute a cron job and it uses my developer rights and wants to add something to the folders that is written by apache. My question is how to have my developer have the same write/delete access as my apache and avoid permission conflicts with each other? I am not fluent on linux command so, it would help if you could provide links or simply examples of doing so. thanks.

• Multiple VLANs, multiple subnets, single DHCP server?

  Hey guys! At my job we are prepping to transition from multiple LANs connected over slow VPN connections to a single MAN connected over fiber, and I've got a few questions. First of all, we are planning on making each physical site its own VLAN, but we would like to have a single DHCP server at the data center hand out IPs to each VLAN. We've pretty much got the VLAN tagging structure all worked out, but we would like to have our single DHCP server assign different subnets of IPs to each VLAN. For instance, VLAN 2 gets 10.0.2.x through 10.0.4.x, VLAN 3 gets 10.0.5.x through 10.0.7.x etc. We are an Active Directory based shop and we have a Server 2003 box handling DHCP (though we aren't averse to upgrading it to server 2008.) Is this feasible, or am I pipe-dreaming?

• mac osX file recovery

  I thought that all operating systems would merge folder content when being moved to the same location. Imagine my surprise when that didn't happen and I have hundreds, if not thousands of files that have gone missing and are nowhere to be found. Because they were not "deleted" they are not in the trash bin. I've tried to do some recovery using a program called stellarPheonix but after about a 24hour scan, it didn't recognize any of the raw files (.dng,.arw) as image files and so I couldn't see if they could be recovered. It also didn't show the directory structure, which would be handy. I tried a quick scan, but all it showed was files that were still on the HD, not sure what the point of that is. I've used recover 2000 on Win and it does a good job, does anyone know of anything that works quickly and reliably for this kind of file recovery. (I don't think I should have to do a sector-by=sector for this kind of file loss)

• Setting up Pure-FTPd with admin/user permissions for same directory

  I need to set up 2 Pure-FTPd accounts - ftpuser and ftpadmin. Both will have access to a directory that contains 2 subdirectories - upload and downlaod. The permissions criteria needs to be as follows: ftpuser can upload to /upload but cannot view the contents (blind drop). ftpuser can download from /download but cannot write to it. ftpadmin has full read/write permissions to both, including file deletion Currently, the first two are not a problem - disabling /upload read access and /download write access for ftpuser did the job. The problem is that when a file is uploaded by ftpuser, it's permissions are set to 644, meaning that user ftpadmin can only read it (note that all FTP directories are chown'd to ftpuser:ftpadmin). How can I give ftpadmin the power he so rightfully deserves?

  I need to connect my Android to a Juniper VPN. Unfortunately, Juniper doesn't support Android on our VPN version. We've already put in a feature request for it, but we have no idea how long it will take to be complete. Right now, I connect to the Juniper VPN with a Juniper Mac OSX VPN client that uses Java to install kernel extensions to start and stop the VPN. Thus, I can't use the Network panel in System Preferences to create a VPN device, which means it won't show up in the 'Sharing' panel's Internet Sharing Share your connection from: menu, as suggested here. • Can I execute an SSRS report from a windows batch file?

  We are using SQLServer 2008R2 and would like to run and SSRS report from a windows batch file. We're loading data warehouse tables using a third party scheduler program and at the end our dataload we want to run a data quality report using SSRS. I can create report subscribtions to email the report but how do I communicate to the report server that the job is done and it's time to run the report? OUr scheduler application can run batch files so if I could pass this to the report server through a batch file that would be great...

• SSRS Subscription Fails

  Our SSRS server is not executing a subscription correctly. (Only subscription we have btw) We created a subscription to export a report as an excel file to the file system. Tried running the job that gets generated, and this error happens 'EXECUTE AS LOGIN' failed for the requested login 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. The step failed. It's not the most helpful in tracking down what exactly it was trying to do. • User Permissions: Daemon and User

  Hello: I often run into this issue on Linux, and I'd love to know the proper way of solving it. Say I have a daemon running. In my example, I'll use LigHTTPD, a webserver. Some software, like Wordpress, enjoys having read/write access to files for updating applications via a web interface, which I think is quite handy. At the same time, I enjoy being able to hack on my files using vim, using my local user account, 'eddie'. Herein lies the rub. Either I chown everything to lighttpd or eddie and a shared group between them both, and chmod it 660, or perpetually sudo to edit the damned things. The former isn't a bad solution, until I create a new file in which case I have to remember to chmod it appropriately, or create some hack like a cron job that chmods for me. Is there an easier way of doing this? Have I overlooked something? Cheers, -e-
