• Creating a map in HTML, CSS, SVG?

  Hi, I would like to create a web based regional map that would enable the user to click in order to choose a region on the map, and will also have some visual effect (resizing, etc) when hovering over one of the regions. I want the map to work on desktops and mobile devices. I'm having doubts regarding the best technology to use here when I'm mainly considering traditional image maps vs.SVG. Image map are more widely supported, but any animation that effects only a single area in the map must be hacked over. SVG is a more natural fit, but is not supported by Android (old IEs can work using svgweb) Any advice? Any other option I'm overlooking?

• Prevent Erroneous Property Assignment

  Porting android applications to iphone applications always gives me the following pattern that I accidentally create: - (void) myFunc:(id)prop { self.property = property; } Which instead should be: - (void) myFunc:(id)prop { self.property = prop; } This always causes my program to quietly break because property gets reset to its existing value rather than being set to the new value, 'prop'. I cannot name the parameter 'prop' to 'property' since the compile complains that the parameter masks the instance variables visibility. Is there a good way to avoid this situation? There are no compiler warnings. Is there a way to make xcode prevent this? I cannot see very many situations where you would set a property to the value of its underlying instance variable (maybe to trigger a KVO binding?), but I don't see myself doing that in majority of cases. I understand the above code is synthetic and should be done with @synthesize, but I am just using it as a simplified example to illustrate my point.

I've got an iPhone 3GS that I use only for development and over the months I've accumulated 3,472 rollover minutes (my primary phone is an Android G-1). It seems a shame to let these minutes go to "waste." What cool iPhone app would you like to see that uses these minutes up in a productive, interesting, and possibly cool way. I'll code whichever suggestion has the highest vote, providing it's not illegal and doesn't violate Apple's SDK, and release it for free on the AppStore.

  I need to store data to represent this: Water + Fire = Steam Water + Earth = Mud Mud + Fire = Rock The goal is the following: I have draggable HTML divs, and when <div id="Fire"> and <div id="Mud"> overlap, I add <div id="Rock"> to the screen. Ever played Alchemy on iPhone or Android? Same stuff Right now, the way I'm doing this is a JS object : var stuff = { 'Steam' : { needs: [ 'Water', 'Fire'] }, 'Mud' : { needs: [ 'Water', 'Earth'] }, 'Rock' : { needs: [ 'Mud', 'Fire'] }, // etc... }; and every time a div overlaps with another one, I traverse the object keys and check the 'needs' array. I can deal with that structure but I was wondering if I could do any better? Edit: I should add that I also need to store a few other things, like a short description or an icon name. I'm trying to make an administration zone within a subfolder (also ZF) and a API Zend Application for my mobile Android application. The problem is: I rewrited all routes im my principal website, so now it always search for a route when I go to a subfolder. • jQuery Mobile focus next input on keypress

  I have a jquery mobile site with a html form consisting of 4 pin entry input boxes. I want the user to be able to enter a pin in each input field without having to press the iphone keyboards "next" button. I have tried the following and although it appears to set the focus to the second input and insert the value, the keyboard disappears so the user still has to activate the required input with a tap event. $('#txtPin1').keypress(function() { $('#txtPin1').bind('change', function(){ $("#txtPin1").val($("#txtPin1").val()); }); $("#txtPin2").focus(); $("#txtPin2").val('pin2'); }); Is there a different event that I should be assigning to $("#txtPin2")? • Are there viable alternatives for Web 2.0 apps besides lots of Javascript?

  If you say find C-style syntax to be in the axis of evil are you just hopelessly condemned to suck it up and deal with it if you want to provide your users with cool web 2.0 applications - for example stuff that's generally done using JQuery and Ajax etc? Are there no other choices out there? We're currently building intranet apps using pylons and a bunch of JavaScript along with a bit of Evoque. So obviously for us the world would be a better place if instead something equivalent existed written in like PythonScript. But I've yet to seen anything approaching that aside from the Android system's ASE - but obviously that's something rather unrelated. Still - if browsers could support other scripting languages....

• Getting back into C/C++ after several years

  While at university I started my first programming with ANSI C, before we moved onto Java later in the course. Now I would like to go back to (re)learning C and C++ again to allow me to contribute with open source projects and also to expand my CV and improve my career prospects. Currently I mostly program in VB.net (I know I know, I try to not do things the nasty way you can with this) and am slowly picking up C# as I get some time at work. I also use a bit of java for Android dev. While I realise just doing it is the best way to learn, my exercise ideas are usually either trivial or beyond my current skills. What are some good sources for this initial relearn, I intend to possibly start helping with Chromium as other people seem to think this a good place to get started in OS. Basically any help getting back into this would be appreciated.

However, when running a web service/web site in Visual Studio it can only be accessed by that machine.   The use case is: I want to do some android app performance tests and I want to fix the data when app got from web. The solution I come up with is to setup a local http proxy, which can first record all http traffic, and later replay then app is running perf tests. I found http://mitmproxy.org/, which has exactly the features I want. but seems with the default settings it cannot be used as a https proxy. I tried using it as proxy and login to facebook but doesn't work. I am not familiar with the https protocol and how cert things work. Any one can provide some help? Thanks a lot.

• Simple Hash that is always equal between C# and Java

  I have a C# WebService and a (Java) Android Application. Is there a SIMPLE hash function that produces the same result between these two languages? The simplest C# hash is a String.GetHashCode(), but I can't replicate it in Java. The simplest Java hash is not simple at all. And I don't know if I can replicate it exactly in C#. In case it's relevant, I'm hashing passwords before sending it across the internet. I'm currently using Encode64, but that's obviously not secure since we can reverse it.

So far I have not found or stuck to a definitive practice for iphone-java server communication.   I am using OpenGl in android and they have a callback method called draw that gets called with out my control. (As fast as the device can handle if I am not mistaken) I have a list of "GameObjects" that have a .draw method and a .update method. I have two different threads that handle each of those. So, the question is, can I declare two different iterators in two different methods in two different threads that iterate over the same Linked List? If so, do I simply declare ListIterator<GameObject> l = objets.listIterator() each time I want a new iterator and it won't interfere with other iterators?
