  So, I'm starting a new Project in my company, and it's kinda big. We are going to use .NET 3.5, and I wish to known if there are any know bugs or perfomance issues that could give weird behaviour for my project? I'm reading some things about EFv4 and all they say is that EFv3.5 have too many problems. After all, what's the best and fastest way, ADO.NET Entities or extract the data from my DB directly to a DataReader? The EF Oracle provider is stable? The project will be .NET 3.5 and Oracle.

  I have a j2ee application hosted on jboss and linux platform. When I try to access the application , I see following error in server.log file. ORA-12705: invalid or unknown NLS parameter value specified When I point the same jboss instance to a different schema, the application works fine. I tried to go through few forum and found that the NLS parameter settings are fine. Can anyone help. • How to avoid this very heavy query that slows down the application?

  Hi, We have a web application running in a production enviroment and at some point the client complained about how slow the application got. When we checked what was going on with the application and the database we discover this "precious" query that was being executed by several users at the same time (thus inflicting an extremely high load on the database server): SELECT NULL AS table_cat, o.owner AS table_schem, o.object_name AS table_name, o.object_type AS table_type, NULL AS remarks FROM all_objects o WHERE o.owner LIKE :1 ESCAPE :"SYS_B_0" AND o.object_name LIKE :2 ESCAPE :"SYS_B_1" AND o.object_type IN(:"SYS_B_2", :"SYS_B_3") ORDER BY table_type, table_schem, table_name Our application does not execute this query, I believe it is an Hibernate internal query. I've found little information on why Hibernate does this extremely heavy query, so any help in how to avoid it very much appreciated! • Database server: Small quick RAM or large slow RAM?

  We are currently designing our new database servers, and have come up with a trade off I'm not entirely sure of how to answer. These are our options: 48GB 1333MHz, or 96GB 1066MHz. My thinking is that RAM should be plentiful for a Database Server (we have plenty and plenty of data, and some very large queries) rather than as quick as it could be. Apparently we can't get 16GB chips at 1333MHz, hence the choices above. So, should we get lots of slower RAM, or less faster RAM? Extra Info: Number of DIMM Slots Available: 6 Servers: Dell Blades CPU: 6 core (only single socket due to Oracle licensing).

• VS 2010 Server Explorer Database Showing No Tables

  I'm working on a .Net application that needs to read from an Oracle 10g database behind Siebel. In VS 2010 Server Explorer, I've created a connection using the OracleClient type connector with a reference to the Oracle TNS service name as the "server name." The "Test Connection" button shows that the connection is successful. However, in the Server Explorer, when I go to expand the Tables, no tables are shown. I know for a fact that there are 3000+ tables in the database (thanks Siebel). Anyone know what's happening here? I'd like to create an Entity Framework 4.0 Entity Data Model... Thanks for the help! • Add dpkg .symbols or.shlibs to package made using checkinstall

  I have created a simple package using checkinstall of the Oracle Instantclient client libraries, the package installs without problem and is seen in the system. Problem is, that checkinstall doesn't create /var/lib/dpkg/info/oracle-instantclient11.2-basic.symbols or /var/lib/dpkg/info/oracle-instantclient11.2-basic.shlibs files so when I try to create another package (with proper build scripts) that depends on oracle-instantclient11.2-basic the build fails with dpkg-shlibdeps: error: no dependency information found for \ /usr/lib/libclntsh.so.11.1 (used by \ debian/libopendbx1-oracle/usr/lib/opendbx/liboraclebackend.so.1.2.0). dh_shlibdeps: dpkg-shlibdeps \ -Tdebian/libopendbx1-oracle.substvars \ debian/libopendbx1-oracle/usr/lib/opendbx/liboraclebackend.so.1.2.0 \ returned exit code 2 make: *** [binary-arch] Error 9 Is there an easy way to automatically create a package with .symbols or .shlibs files?

  I've read some documentation about hadoop and seen the impressive results. I get the bigger picture but am finding it hard whether it would fit our setup. Question isnt programming related but I'm eager to get opinion of people who currently work with hadoop and how it would fit our setup: We use Oracle for backend Java (Struts2/Servlets/iBatis) for frontend Nightly we get data which needs to be summarized. this runs as a batch process (takes 5 hours) We are looking for a way to cut those 5 hours to a shorter time. Where would hadoop fit into this picture? Can we still continue to use Oracle even after hadoop?

  We build software using Hudson and Maven. We have C#, java and last, but not least PL/SQL sources (sprocs, packages, DDL, crud) For C# and Java we do unit tests and code analysis, but we don't really know the health of our PL/SQL sources before we actually publish them to the target database. Requirements There are a couple of things we wan't to test in the following priority: Are the sources valid, hence "compilable"? For packages, with respect to a certain database, would they compile? Code Quality: Do we have code flaws like duplicates, too complex methods or other violations to a defined set of rules? Also, the tool must run head-less (commandline, ant, ...) we wan't to do analysis on a partial code base (changed sources only) Tools We did a little research and found the following tools that could potencially help: Cast Application Intelligence Platform (AIP): Seems to be a server that grasps information about "anything". Couldn't find a console version that would export in readable format. Toad for Oracle: The Professional version is said to include something called Xpert validates a set of rules against a code base. Sonar + PL/SQL-Plugin: Uses Toad for Oracle to display code-health the sonar-way. This is for browsing the current state of the code base. Semantic Designs DMSToolkit: Quite general analysis of source code base. Commandline available? Semantic Designs Clones Detector: Detects clones. But also via command line? Fortify Source Code Analyzer: Seems to be focussed on security issues. But maybe it is extensible? more... So far, Toad for Oracle together with Sonar seems to be an elegant solution. But may be we are missing something here? Any ideas? Other products? Experiences?   I'm getting the infamous invalid number Oracle error. Hibernate is issuing an INSERT with a lot of columns, I want to know just the name of the column giving the problem. Is it possible? I hate Oracle messages, in 15 years they haven't improved a bit (the reason why is beyond my imagination). Would you recommend creating a system user for the django project and use daemon mode? What type of user and what privileges does it need?   I'm looking for advice on how to enable our team to take down and re-start our company systems for maintainance purposes. The scenario includes several Oracle db machines several MS SQL Server machines with multiple instances windows services (IIS etc.) BizTalk EAI solution Apache and Tomcat instances lots of scheduled tasks on win2003 and win2008 machines (physical and virtual). The main focus is on capture all dependencies between said databases and services and tasks connecting to them. At the moment an enterprise class solution is not an option. We are considering developing a solution driven by PowerShell scripts but I hope for some more suggestions.

But when i run the report in SSRS and select more than 3 values for the parameter PI_REGION_LIST the report throws an error on this dataset, ora-00939 error,too many arguments for function. • ASP.NET Connection time out after being idle for a while

  My ASP.NET website while trying to connect to the database for first time after a period of inactivity throws an time out exception. I understand the connections in the connection pool get terminated after some idle time for some reason (Firewall or Oracle settings) and the pool or app doesn't have a clue about it. Is there any way to validate the connection beforehand so that the first try doesn't throw an exception? I don't have much control over the DB or Firewall settings. So I have to deal with this is my application.(would prefer if there is any web.config settings) I am using: ASP.NET 2.0. Oracle server 11g, Microsoft Enterprise Library DAAB to do all my DB operations. I did some search on this topic but didnt find any solid solution for this yet :(

• Updating PHP on a Plesk managed Server

  I just updated PHP and MySQl on my VPS with the current Versions from Atomic Repo. Everything worked out fine so far. From console I get the new PHP 5.3: [root@server phpMyAdmin]# php -v PHP 5.3.16 (cli) (built: Aug 20 2012 11:18:05) Copyright (c) 1997-2012 The PHP Group Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2012 Zend Technologies with the ionCube PHP Loader v4.0.5, Copyright (c) 2002-2011, by ionCube Ltd. But through Apache I still get the old version (5.1.6). The server is running some old version of crappy Plesk Panel. That gives me the option to choose between Apache Modul, fCGI and CGI-BIN. Any hints, how to update apache, so it will use the new PHP Version? EDIT: I just needed to restart httpd (/etc/init.d/httpd restart)

  Good day. I have stepped into project that requires a server migration that would change the means of authentication for our CAC/PKI SSL enabled website. We are using iPlanet 7 and Oracle Directory Server Enterprise 7 as our LDAP server. The situation is that the site is still CAC/PKI enabled, but at the firewall. The information we want to authenticate against is now in the http header. How do I configure iPlanet and LDAP to authenticate against the header instead of SSL? Thanks. Edit, Can this be done with IIS keeping the Directory Server EE LDAP in tact or is the ACL iPlanet only?
