  • Only want "Required field" error to appear ONCE in ASP.NET Validation Summary

    I have a form with several fields with a RequiredFieldValidator on them. If any of these fields are not filled in I only want the message "Please enter the items marked with an asterisk" to appear once in the ValidationSummary control and an asterisk to appear next to each field. I have done this using the method here. i.e. by setting Text to "*" and ValidationSummary.HeaderText to my message. Great, but no cigar as I also have other fields with other validators e.g. a RegEx for an Email field. This means that if all the required fields are entered but the email is incorrect, the ValidationSummary with "Please enter the items marked with an asterisk" will appear along with the message for the invalid email. Crap! I then tried using a ValidationGroup called "ReqField" and have a one ValidationSummary for this group (with my HeaderText) and another for the other validators, but alas, my Submit button only allows one ValidationGroup to be triggered upon the click event. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get this to work? Thanks in adavnce.

  • Just an experiment changing the application data path

    When I change the Appication Data path in windows xp registry to a network folder I get this error message on the next system startup: "windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you with the default profile system" The registry keys are: "[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders]" "[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]" under the names "AppData" and "Local AppData" I dont care if "Windows logins you with the default profile system" but is there a way to disable that message, or change the message timeout form 30 seconds to 0?,or maybe create an script that changes the Application Data path every system startup? P.S. The computer with the shared folder is always on.

  • Migrating Data to MSSQL 2008

    I am trying to migrate data from an Informix database to MSSQL 2008. I've got quite a lot of data to move. I've been try multiple methods to get the data over, and so far SQLBulkCopy in multiple chunks seems to be the fastest that I can find. Does anyone know of a faster means of getting the data over? I'm trying to cut down on the transfer time so that on my cut-over date I don't run out of time to do the full cut-over. Thanks.

I have an actionlink like so Html.ActionLink( "Test", "test", new { q = "search+twitter" } ) This produces a url string as follows http://myserver/test?q=search%2Btwitter But i would like to preserve the plus sign (which i assume is being UrlPathEncoded) so that I get the following url http://myserver/test?q=search+twitter Is there an easy way to do this whilst still using Html.ActionLink ?

  • Problem with ScriptManager when trying to email rendered contents of ASP.NET page

    I recently added a Telerik control to an ascx that is included in an aspx page. This page has a "Send email" button, which when clicked will email the user the rendered output of the page. The Telerik control I added requires a ScriptManager, so I added that to the ascx. However, now the email button won't work. I get the following error: The control with ID 'myIdHere' requires a ScriptManager on the page. The ScriptManager must appear before any controls that need it. I know the script manager exists because the page works fine when I go that url, it is only failing when it tries to email the rendered output. Here's a code snippet, any ideas as to whether there is a problem with scriptmanager when doing this sort of thing?   • Returning JSON object from an ASP.NET page

    Hi, In my particular situation, I have couple of solutions to my problem. I want to find out which one is more feasible. In this case, I can also achieve my goal by returning a JSON object from my server side code, however, I do not know how it is done and what is the best way of doing it. First off, I don't need a full aspx page as I only need a response returned from code. So, do I use web services? handler? or is there any other specific way you people do this? Is this solution feasible? do I build the JSON string using the StringBuilder class and inject that string into the target aspx page? are there any precautions? or things that I should be aware of? I appreciate your ideas. I think this way my question is more specific... Lets assume I create a new string in my aspx code, as such "{"value": "Blue"}. Now how do I inject this into the already existing itemlist in the target page? or is this not the correct approach to this kind of situation? if not how else can it be achieved? Also if I wanted to fire a jquery event when a new item is added to this list, how is this achieved?

    Our team builds a .NET 3.5 WinForms based application that we'd like to migrate to the latest .NET version (4.5). Our application uses many "external" components (can be thought of as plugins) that are also currently .NET 3.5 based. I'd like to know what runtime/core libraries are used in case we convert ONLY THE APPLICATION to compile using .NET 4.5? Should this scenario properly work? (loading .NET 3.5 assemblies in a 4.5 process)? * The plugin assemblies are loaded via reflection. How does the CLR runtime handle such a scenario? is this a safe practice?

    I have several dependency injection services which are dependent on stuff like HTTP context. Right now I'm configuring them as singletons the Windsor container in the Application_Start handler, which is obviously a problem for such services. What is the best way to handle this? I'm considering making them transient and then releasing them after each HTTP request. But what is the best way/place to inject the HTTP context into them? Controller factory or somewhere else?

  • Using multiple databases within one application (ASP.NET MVC, LINQ to SQL)

    I have a web application made for several groups of people not connected with each other. Instead of using one database for all of them, I'm thinking about making separate databases. This will improve the speed of the queries and make me free from checking to what group the user belongs. But since I'm working with LINQ to SQL, my classes are explicitly connected with the databases, so I will have to make separate DataContexts for all of the databases. So how can I solve this problem? Or should I just not bother and use one database only?

  • Code reviews for larger ASP.NET MVC team using TFS

    I'm trying to find a good code review workflow for my team. Most questions similar to this on SO revolve around using shelved changes for the review, however I'm curious about how this works for people with larger teams. We usually have 2-3 people working a story (UI person, Domain/Repository person, sometimes DB person). I've recommended the shelf idea but we're all concerned about how to manage that with multiple people working the same feature. How could you share a shelf between multiple programmers at that point? We worry it would be clunky and we might easily have unintended consequences moving to this workflow. Of course moving to shelfs for each feature avoids having 10 or so checkins per feature (as developers need to share code) making seeing the diffs at code review time painful. Has anyone else been able to successfully deal with this? Are there any tools out there people have found useful aside from shelfs in TFS (preferably open-source)?

Specifically, I am looking for a comprehensive list of what events occur in the page and control life cycles and what is "available" in each event. Like when can I get a dropdownlists selected value, when can i databind, when can I get at values in view state and what not. Since the version of web.config is different on the server and the developers' computers I want the file to remain on the computers but to be ignored by Subversion. I added it to the svn:ignore but it still remains (and still has a red exclamation mark too since we are not committing it).     i have 2 customer views one for create and one for edit. i am using the same Customer view model for both. i want to make the 'customer no field' required on the add but not the edit. if i put the requiredfield attribute on the view model property then both views flag 'Customer No' as required (as you would expect). Is there a built in solution to get around this problem or am i going to have to create 2 seperate view models, one with the attribute and one without. Thanks
