  I'm using Rails 3. I want to create a select tag with some options grouped and others not grouped. Options would look something like this: Income Auto Fuel Maintenance Home Maintenance Mortgage In this example, Income is not a group, but Auto and Home are. I see three helper methods grouped_options_for_select and grouped_collection_select, option_groups_from_collection_for_select. Is there a way to use a helper to do this or will I have to generate the HTML myself? I imagine I could use two different helpers to create the options and just append the results of both.

  In the interpreter for my programming languages I have to correctly handle the parts in case the import function is called. I then need to check if such a file is in the /libs folder (located at the same place as my executeable!) and if it doesn't exist I have to check in the directory of the current script. How can I get the exact path to the directory where the executeable is located from argv? What is the best way to remove the file from the end of a path, e.g: C:/a/b/c/file.exe should become C:/a/b/c/

• Tools for displaying text, powerpoint style, in linux

  I have a problem where I need a way to display a repeating series of "images" on a computer monitor. Specifically, given a series of text files, I'd like a way to display the contents of said files on a screen in a way much like a powerpoint would. My current thoughts are to find some tool that will take in a text file of some format, and then output an image which contains the text from the file. Then I'd put it in a directory and have some Slideshow program continuously go between the images in that directory. It's a very hacky solution, obviously. So, does anyone know of tools that would do such a thing? Or is there a better way to do this? I've looked into the library libgd2, but it doesn't seem to support text-wrapping for images, which is something I'd need. Thanks!

• Access Assests from another application?

  I get a lot of requests in my application to allow for custom icons packs from BetterCut / Open Home. The way it seems to work is you install BetterCut or Open Home, then you can install tons of these free icon packs from the market. Once installed both those apps (and other apps) will poll for those icon packs and use the icons. I want to know how to poll the install applications for the asset folders that are available. I have opened up a few of the icon packs and verified that there is an assets folder in there and they are full of all the icon png files. I've searched on here, other code sites, google, etc but havn't found any leads.

• Equivalent for Java's System.getProperty("java.io.tmpdir") in C ?

  As the title says, the java.io.tmpdir property in Java is really nice, and I can't find an equivalent for C. I'm writing for Windows and in Visual Studio. I don't want to just use something like C:\Temp because in later versions of windows the appropriate directory could be something like C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\Temp and a way to retrieve this would be much easier. I want a directory and not just a temp file because I'm downloading and executing a file from the internet. As a side note, if anyone can give me tips about how to better google for C stuff it would be much appreciated :)

• Hudson results one step behind

  I'm using the filesytem plugin for Hudson, and when a build happens it looks for new/modified files, copies them to the Workspace, runs tests using Rake, and then publishes those junit xml result files. However, the updated junit xml result files don't get pushed to the workspace until the next build. This means that when the publishing of the junit xml result files happens, it's always one step behind. And this means I need to run a build twice before the results show. The Rake task is creating the junit xml files in the project directory. I've tried outputting to the workspace directory, but it seems to make things worse and the results don't get published at all. Am I doing something fundamentally wrong here? Is there a simple way of getting those junit xml results pushed to the workspace so that the post-build "Publish JUnit test result report" actually runs against the newly created xml files?

Everything seems well however the files are getting uncompressed in the folder which has the main perl code module which is running the sub modules. I want the archive to be generated in the folder I specify. When using $tar-extract() it uncompresses in the folder which calls this metohd. when I use $tar-extract_file($arch_file,$dirpath."/$file_name" ) I get an error : No such file in archive: '/home/fsang/dante/workspace/output/s.tar' at /home/fsang/dante/lib/Extraction.pm line 80 Please help I have checked that path and input output there is no issue with it. • How does Rails Plugin Storage work?

  Trying to figure out how to install rails plugins manually on windows so I have a few questions. What does the directory need to be named in vendor/plugins? Is it arbitrary or is it linked to something within the plugin config files or is that what you set in the environment.rb? Once I've copied the files to the correct directory, do I always need to run something inside like init.rb or is it good to go? What's the difference between 'require' and 'include'? Thanks!

• Grails: GGTS not running on Amazon AWS EC2 anyone else successful?

  Im just curious if anyone has had success trying to run the Groovy Grails tool suite on an Amazon AWS EC2 instance with its display exported into your windows machine. If so, I wanted to know which flavor of linux was used on the EC2. I am not having much success with it on the Amazon Linux but haven't tried their Ubuntu instances yet. I got all the way to getting GGTS installed and getting the display exported but when I launch GGTS I get log errors about libraries missing. This is most likely because I didn't use yum to install it so I am probably missing dependencies but I didn't have a choice its not offered as a yum package. • Rails + Passenger CSS problem

  I'm trying to deploy my first Rails app. At first, I was getting the following error: ActionView::TemplateError (Permission denied) I set the permissions of the stylesheets folder to 777 (just for now until I work out what's going wrong) and the application started to work. However, it is not picking up any of the stylesheets (everything is displayed in plain text). If I view the source code and click the CSS links, I just get a blank page. Javascripts however, seem to be working just fine. VHost Config: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName xxxx.xxx.com DocumentRoot /home/myapp/public <Directory /home/myapp/public> Allow from All AllowOverride all Options -MultiViews </Directory> </VirtualHost> Can anyone help? You should be presented with a screen that looks like Figure 2. So I write in my command prompt till I am at: C:\xampp\htdocs\ibm2\app Then I type ../cake/console/cake bake but I get this error: '..' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Double tap the home button while the music is playing. You will see appear a popup with the play/pause/next/previous buttons and a volume control. Do you know if it's possible to make this popup appear programmatically ? • I tried installing Ubuntu 10.04 and I got this message - any ideas on what to do?

  No root file system defined. Please correct this from the partition menu. This message shows up when I first boot into Ubuntu after the installation. I installed it by mounting the ISO with Daemon Tools, and I just did the default Wubi installation. I keep reading everywhere that I need to choose my installation directory, but I don't get any option to do that. These are all the options I get for installation directory. I have a C and D partition on my drive, and I tried installing it on both and no luck either way. Any ideas?

I have looked at a few other threads on Stack that suggest its not possible as a body element defined in css, but in this scenario the BG image is being loaded in by jQuery. How would I go about adding a fade in to this code to bring the image in with a nice fadein?

  Is it possible to have Apache htaccess rewrites take effect before it hits django? For example so I can redirect iPhone users to a completely different domain without even hitting django.
