• Why is C# winforms application not working without VS.NET installed?

  Hi folks, I have a winforms c# app that has an embedded webbrowser control inside it generated through VS.NET 2008. We sink events by inheriting our events class from HTMLDocumentEvents2. public class IEHTMLDocumentEvents : mshtml.HTMLDocumentEvents2 { public bool onclick(mshtml.IHTMLEventObj pEvtObj) { // Clicking on an input (checkbox, radio, button, image) if (pEvtObj.srcElement.tagName == "INPUT") { // The following will result in a null pointer without VS.NET installed HTMLInputElementClass input = pEvtObj.srcElement as HTMLInputElementClass; } } } The code above works fine when clicking on elements in the webbrowser control on our dev machines with VS.NET installed. However it fails to cast the pEvtObj.srcElement when VS.NET is not installed. This immediately starts working when we install the most basic VS.NET with C# that you can. To note: The rest of the c# app works fine, and you can browser the web through the control fine as well, just that the events like the above 'onclick' can't be handled properly. • windows 2008 task scheduled batch file runs forever

  I currently have the following batch running in windows 2008 task scheduler. mysql --user=bobdb --password=letmein --force --named-commands --local-infile=1 --execute="insert into bobdb.attendees (name) values ('bob');insert into bobdb.attendees (name) values ('rick');" It executes nicely when I run it from a command prompt and it executes when I force it to run and it executes when it is scheduled to run. My issue is when it does run, the task scheduler seems to keep it running until it hits a timeout. Is there a command to tell it when it is finished running in the batch file so it doesn't throw a timeout error? thanks in advance

  Hi all, I'm writing a Java mass emailer application to send out emails to send between 50,000 to 100,000 a day to users. The current plan is to delegate the sending to delegate to sendmail (on the local unix server). From our testing sendmail is sending a maximum of 5 emails per second. Would JavaMail be a faster option? Does anyone know what a faster way to send emails. We want to get this process out as quick as possible. Edit: BTW, a pdf will be attached too

  hi, i hope you guys know about webim a.k.a mibew messenger. I know only java, jsp and no idea about php except for some basics. Anyways, i ran this app in my apache2.2 local server. Everything works superb! But if i change my db to a virtual machine and give its address in the config.php (previously i had used localhost), in the visitors page, i get timeout, reconnecting. Login has no prob, so my guess is db connection is fine. I even changed the default page refresh time from 2 to 10. Nothing happens. Still same thing. You guys have any idea?

  I am having issues pushing my codes into my Bazaar repository. It worked earlier for my first commit but not it does not work at all. Everytime I try to push my codes, I get this exception Error while executing push [Error 5] Access is denied: 'c:\\users\\benjam~1.won\\appdata\\local\\temp\\tmpj2hcal.pag' Any idea how I resolve this? I have even deleted the repo and .git folder and tried again but I keep getting this error regardless of the branch I guess. • Publish content to Facebook C#

  I apologize if this has already been answered, but all the information out there on Facebook publishing is so confusing and conflicting, I haven't been able to get anything to work yet. I'm trying to set up an application that runs on my local server to publish content to my organization's fan page (this will tie in with my WCMS to cross-post content). I believe I want a Facebook Connect application to do this which I've set up properly in Facebook and gotten an application key and secret. Here's the code I'm trying to execute, but each time it's run I get "User has not authorized access" even if I'm just trying to publish to the application wall. • Escaping Hyphens with pkg-config through qmake

  I am trying to compile an application using qmake that is using pkg-config to bring in yaml-cpp. Unlike using pkg-config through the terminal qmake which is formatted like: pkg-config --libs --cflags yaml-cpp qmake actually spits out the include paths inside the make command like this: -I/usr/local/include/yaml-cpp This include path breaks subsequent includes which I've set in my qmake file. It's not possible for me to rearrange these includes due the order in which qmake parses its variables. Is it possible using qmake to escape the quote somehow or to make it use the first quoted configuration?

• java.security.AccessControlException: access denied using Java Web Start

  I am having some issues with accessing files using JWS (Java Web Start). The program adds a new label and image. The program runs fine on my local computer but gives me pages of errors when I run the program on my remote server using JWS. Here's a sample of the error: Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission add2.png read) at java.security.AccessControlContext.checkPermission(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.checkPermission(Unknown Source) at java.lang.SecurityManager.checkPermission(Unknown Source) This occurs even after making sure the images have read access. Ideas?

  I tried to run winpdb.py, but I got an error saying that it could not find wxPython. This is strange to me because I know I have wxPython installed and included in my PYTHONPATH. I can import wx in the Python interpreter. Mac OS X 10.5.8 Python 2.6 PYTHONPATH=/sw/lib/python2.6/site-packages/:/usr/local/lib/wxPython-unicode-2.8.10.1/lib/python2.6/site-packages/wx-2.8-mac-unicode: $ python winpdb.py wxPython was not found. wxPython 2.6 or higher is required to run the winpdb GUI. wxPython is the graphical user interface toolkit used by Winpdb. • Dealing with the lack of closures in Objective-C

  Maybe it's just the fact that I've been using http://nodejs.org/ lately, but the lack of closures in Objective-C (iphone) has been really hard to work around. For example, I'm creating service classes. Each service class can have several methods, each of which makes a different URL request. I can use the delegate pattern, but that means that I have to create a new service each time I want to call a method on it (because it has to store the delegate and selector for that request, and new method calls would overwrite them). Even more difficult for me is the fact that I can't easily keep local variables around in the scope for a callback. I have to store anything I want to send back to the delegate on the service class itself, which makes it harder to have more than one method on each class. How do you pros do it? Should I just quit whining and do it another way?

  At my work we use AspectJ in some of our Java projects. To get this to work with ant builds we have been placing aspectjtools.jar within ant/lib/. I am now working on a particular Java project and need to use a newer version of aspectJ. I don't want to have to get everyone who uses the project to update their local copy of aspectjtools.jar. Instead, I tried adding the newer aspectjtools.jar to the lib directory of the project and adding the following line to build.xml. <taskdef resource="org/aspectj/tools/ant/taskdefs/aspectjTaskdefs.properties" classpath="./lib/aspectjtools.jar" /> However, this doesn't work as I hoped as the ANT classloader loads jars from ant/lib/ in preference to the jar I specify in the taskdef classpath. Is there any way to force ant to pick the jar checked into my project instead?

  Hi, I have an H2 database (http://www.h2database.com) and I'd like to insert a file into a BLOB field via a plain simple sql script (to populate a test database for instance). I know how to do that via the code but I cannot find how to do the sql script itself. I tried to pass the path , i.e. INSERT INTO mytable (id,name,file) VALUES(1,'file.xml',/my/local/path/file.xml); but this fails. Within the code (java for instance), it's easy to create a File object and pass that in, but directly from a sql script, I'm stuck... Any idea ? David

• IP Address Lookup in VB.net (XP vs Windows 7)

  Currently I use the following code to retrieve the IP address of the local workstation... strIPAddress = System.Net.Dns.GetHostEntry(strComputerName).AddressList(0).ToString() This is fine for the Windows XP workstations. However, in Vista and Windows 7, this returns the IPv6 address which is not used at all. Is there a method of setting this to work so it always returns the IPv4 address regardless of platform? I know I can increment the AddressList value to 1 and get the correct IP in Windows 7. The bad part is that this requires going through the motions of identifying the OS and choosing one or the other. The must be some way of specifying IPv4 only. Perhaps getting a result from DNS on the network rather than the workstation itself?

• Response.TransmitFile() with UNC share (ASP.NET)

  In the comments of this page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/12s31dhy.aspx ..it says that TransmitFile() cannot be used with UNC shares. As far as I can tell, this is the case; I get this error in Event Log when I attempt it: TransmitFile failed. File Name: \\myshare1\e$\file.zip, Impersonation Enabled: 0, Token Valid: 1, HRESULT: 0x8007052e The suggested alternative is to use WriteFile(), however, this is problematic because it loads the file into memory. In my application, the files are 200MB, so this is not going to scale. Is there a method in ASP.NET for streaming files to users that's: scalable (doesn't read entire file into RAM or occupy ASP.NET threads) works with UNC shares Mapping a network drive as a virtual directory is not an option for us. I would like to avoid copying the file to the local web server as well. Thanks

• 404 Error Hosting WCF Service via IIS 7.5 Shared Content

  We're attempting to host a WCF Service (.NET 3.5 SP1) using Shared Content on IIS 7.5. At the moment it's returning a 404 error. My assumption at this point is that WCF can not be hosted via a UNC path (See workaroundHosting WCF service in IIS6 using UNC). Steps I've taken: - Established a FullTrust to/with the UNC path. - The service works hosting it on a local disk. - A basic HTML page renders without issue from the UNC path. - A ASPX page renders without issue from the UNC path. - Explicitly set "Full Control" permissions to the user running the service. The reason for using Shared Content in IIS 7.5 to host this WCF Service, and several other websites, in a web farm. Using Shared Content avoids the need for file replication between the nodes in the farm. (Note we are also using Shared Configuration to support this environment.)

• Calling IPrincipal.IsInRole on Windows 7

  We use NTLM auth in our application to determine whether a user can perform certain operations. We use the IPrincipal of their current Windows login (in WinForms applications), calling IsInRole to check for specific group memberships. To check that a user is a local administrator on the machine, we use: AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetPrincipalPolicy(PrincipalPolicy.WindowsPrincipal); ... bool allowed = Thread.CurrentPrincipal.IsInRole(@"Builtin\Administrators") This works if the current user is the Administrator user, or is another user that is a member of the Builtin\Administrators group. In our testing on Windows 7, we have found that this no longer works as expected. The Administrator user still works fine, but any other user that is a member of the Builtin\Administrators group returns false for the IsInRole call. What could be causing this difference? I have a gut feeling that a default setting has changed somewhere (possible in gpedit), but cannot find anything that looks like the culprit.

  Hi, I am trying to write a small app to connect and manipulate some data on an SQL 2008 Express database. The database is on my local machine but I can see it on the network. I am trying to use LINQ to SQL in my app. I am trying to connect to the database so I can add database model to use with LINQ but the problem is I can not see any databases inside the SQL Server, which is on my machine. I tried using Windows Auth and also tried SQL Server Auth with no luck. Can someone please assist me? What am I missing?

I am trying to point it to a db on a remote server. I have a feeling it is somewhere in IIS orthe Machine Config. I'd like to add it to my WEB.CONFIG Could someone help me to do this?

But I don't know how to insert the data into a datagrid. mygrid.dataProvider=ac; dose not work. I'm using Flash Builder 4 Help please....

• How do I stub a view in rspec-2

  I'm in the process of upgrading an app to Rails 3/Rspec 2. I see that stubbing a view helper method has changed in Rspec 2. It looks like instead of doing template.stub!, we're now supposed to do view.stub!, but I can't seem to get this to work on beta 10. I get an "undefined local variable or method `view' for # < RSpec::Core::ExampleGroup::Nested_1::Nested_1::Nested_1:0x106785fd0" error. I see that in this commit David removed the view method, but I can't figure out what it was replaced with. Something in ActionView::TestCase::Behavior? I'm on rails 3.0.0.beta3. Any idea what I'm missing?

• how to temporarily set makeprg in vim

  In the normal case I use vim's make utility I will set makeprg to the Makefile of the project I'm currently working for. Since usually the project will last for weeks or even longer, I don't need to change the setting of makeprg very often . But sometimes I need to write some "foobar" code either for practicing my c++ skill or for prototyping some primitive ideas in my mind. So whenever I switch to the "foobar" mode of vim usage, I need to comments the original makeprg setting add the new setting as following : au FileType c set makeprg=gcc\ % au FileType cpp set makeprg=g++\ % which is really very very inconvenient . when I back to the "normal project mode" of vim usage, I need to change back to the original setting . back and forth .... what I want to know from you guys is that : is it possible to make the setting of makeprg temporarily . for example , define a function in which first set a local value of makeprg and then call make before return form the function call automatically restore makeprg to the value before the function call.

• Psexec , cmd and batch file

  Hello. I have a batch file named a.bat on a winserver2008 Desktop. That batch file only write the SessionID (from environment variable) to a local eventlog. I want to execute it remotely using cmd (otherwise the SessionName doesn't appear). so I have tried c:\PsTools\psexec.exe \\<Server> -u test2 -p <Password> -i 2 cmd "c:\Users\test-2\Desktop\a" or c:\PsTools\psexec.exe \\<server> -u test2 -p <Password> -i 2 "cmd \"c:\Users\test-2\Desktop\a\"";exit all of these just open a terminal on the remote machine but don't execute the batch.   HI, we are building a multi-tenant application, which will support that each tenant can have a unique top level domain, the application is build using the asp.net 3.5 and SQL servr 2005, while each tenant will have different database. I have seen a number of questions about the similar applications on the StackOverFlow, but none of them is related to the Testing, I want to know is how one can test the application in a development environment, specially How can we test that each customer connects to his own DB based on the URL. how can we emulate different domains on the local system. like abc.com and xyz.com all goes to dev machine's IIS. Any recommendations which might help us in the developing process of such an application.
