• Best way to gather, then import data into drupal?

  I am building my first database driven website with Drupal and I have a few questions. I am currently populating a google docs excel spreadsheet with all of the data I want to eventually be able to query from the website (after it's imported). Is this the best way to start? If this is not the best way to start what would you recommend? My plan is to populate the spreadsheet then import it as a csv into the mysql db via the CCK Node. I've seen two ways to do this. http://drupal.org/node/133705 (importing data into CCK nodes) http://drupal.org/node/237574 (Inserting data using spreadsheet/csv instead of SQL insert statements) Basically my question(s) is what is the best way to gather, then import data into drupal? • How to insert multiple check-box values inside database when one or more will be left unchecked?

  I have a form that contains 5 check boxes. The user may select one or more of these check boxes. The user may select 2 and leave 3 unchecked or select 4 and leave one unchecked and so on, in that case how can I write the php/mysql code that will insert the form data into the database. With just one selection it's easy, I would do: $checkbox_value = $_POST['i_agree']; mysql_query("INSERT INTO terms (user, pass, conditions) VALUES ('$user','$pass','$checkbox_value')"); But how can I write this when there are multiple check box options and only one or more of them will be checked? I want to insert them all in one column called "tags" separated by commas.

  I need to retrieve all records ordered alphabetically. Except for a predefined list of record's columns which their records should appear first in a given predefined order, then all other records should be sorted alphabetically based on the same column For instance, assume we have the following table which is called Names Lets assume the predefined list is ("Mathew", "Ashraf", "Jack"). I.e. these are the names of whom their records should be listed first as in the predefined order. So the desired query result should be: Which query could retrieve this custom order ? P.S, I'm using MySQL.   Hi, We have nested folders with parent-child relationship. We use MySQL MyISAM DB. The data is stored in the DB in the following manner. Every time a child folder is created in the nested structure, the previous parentID is added. I want to get the RootFolderID of a folder which is added in the hierarchy as tabulated below. FoldID ParentID |RootFolderID -----------------|------------------- 1 0 | 0 2 1 | 1 3 2 | 1 4 3 | 1 5 4 | 1 Please let me know how to get the root folderID and populate it in the RootFolderID column after a folder is created each time.   I'm not even sure if it's possible but I need it for my Access database. So I have following db structure : Now I need to perform a query that takes category_id from my product and do the magic : - let's say product belongs to console (category_id is in table Console) - from console_types take type_id, where category_id == category_id - but if product belongs to console_game (category_id is in table console_game) - from console_game take game_cat_id, where category_id == category_id I'm not sure if mysql is capable of such thing. If not I'm really f&%ranked up. Maybe there is a way to split this into 2,3 separate queries ?

• Loading a DB table into nested dictionaries in Python

  Hi, I have a table in MySql DB which I want to load it to a dictionary in python. the table columns is as follows: id,url,tag,tagCount tagCount is the number of times that a tag has been repeated for a certain url. So in that case I need a nested dictionary, in other words a dictionary of dictionary, to load this table. • Order database results by bayesian rating

  I'm not sure this is even possible, but I need a confirmation before doing it the "ugly" way :) So, the "results" are posts inside a database which are stored like this: the posts table, which contains all the important stuff, like the ID, the title, the content the post meta table, which contains additional post data, like the rating (this_rating) and the number of votes (this_num_votes). This data is stored in pairs, the table has 3 columns: post ID / key / value. It's basically the WordPress table structure. What I want is to pull out the highest rated posts, sorted based on this formula: br = ( (avg_num_votes * avg_rating) + (this_num_votes * this_rating) ) / (avg_num_votes + this_num_votes) which I stole form here. avg_num_votes and avg_rating are known variables (they get updated on each vote), so they don't need to be calculated. Can this be done with a mysql query? Or do I need to get all the posts and do the sorting with PHP?

  I am trying to write an application for website powered by drupal, basically i would like to create an application only authenticated users are able to use, and users are only allowed to connect with members of the opposite group they are a member of. I have been learning flash builder 4 and learning the basics of actionscript but I am still pretty new to Flash and Flex development. I would like to users to connect using the Adobe Stratus 2 protocol and if possible by authentication on existing site and using membership data from existing mysql database. If anyone could give me a nudge in the right direction on how I should go about creating this application or the next steps i should take, it would be greatly appreciated.

  I have data related as follows: A table of Houses A table of Boxes (with an FK back into Houses) A table of Things_in_boxes (with an FK back to Boxes) A table of Owners (with an FK back into Houses) In a nutshell, a House has many Boxes, and each Box has many Things in it. In addition, each House has many Owners. If I know two Owners (say Peter and Paul), how can I list all the Things that are in the Boxes that are in the Houses owned by these guys? • Database structure for storing Bank-like accounts and transactions

  We're in the process of adding a bank-like sub-system to our own shop. We already have customers, so each will be given a sort of account and transactions of some kind will be possible (adding to the account or subtracting from it). So we at least need the account entity, the transaction one and operations will then have to recalculate overall balances. How would you structure your database to handle this? Is there any standard bank system have to use that I could mock? By the way, we're on mysql but will also look at some nosql solution for performance boost.

All records are placed as 1 row inside the csv file, how can i fix that ? • Issue with Visual C++ 2010 (Express) External Tools command

  I posted this on SuperUser...but I was hoping the pros here at SO might have a good idea about how to fix this as well.... Normally we develop in VS 2005 Pro, but I wanted to give VS 2010 a spin. We have custom build tools based off of GNU make tools that are called when creating an executable. This is the error that I see whenever I call my external tool: ...\gnu\make.exe): * couldn't commit memory for cygwin heap, Win32 error 487 The caveat is that it still works perfectly fine in VS2005, as well as being called straight from the command line. Also, my external tool is setup exactly the same as in VS 2005. Is there some setting somewhere that could cause this error to be thrown?

• Should I stick only to AWS RDS Automated Backup or DB Snapshots?

  I am using AWS RDS for MySQL. With it comes on backup, I understand that amazon provides two types of backup - automated backup and database (DB) snapshot. The difference is explain in here - http://aws.amazon.com/rds/faqs/#23. However, I am still confuse if should I stick to automated backup only or both automated and manual (db snapshots). What do you think guys? What's the setup of your own? I heard to others that automated backup is not reliable due to some unrecoverable database when the DB instance is crashed so the DB snapshots are the way to rescue you. If I will do daily DB snapshots as similar settings to automated backup, I have gonna pay much bunch of bucks. Hope anyone could enlighten me or advise me the right set up. Thanks. James

  I have a website using cPanel on a dedicated account, I would like to be able to automatically sync the website to a second hosting company or perhaps to a local (in house ) server. Basically this is a type of replication. The website is database driven (MySQL), so Ideally it would sync everything (content, database, emails etc.) , but most importantly is syncing the website files and its database. I'm not so much looking for a fail-over solution as an automatic replication solution, so if the primary site (Server) goes off-line, I can manually bring up the replicated site quickly. I'm familiar with tools like unison and rsync, but most of these only sync file(s) and do not do too well with open database connections.
