• Twitter URL encoding

  Hi, We're about to launch a little twitter Christmas competition, and I've run into a little snag. To enter, people will need to post a tweet in the following format: @user blah, blah, blah #hashtag Currently, I have a form where they enter their answer (the blah, blah, blah) and a PHP script which encodes the entire statement and adds on the twitter url: http://www.twitter.com/home?status=%40user%20blah%2Cblah%2Cblah%20%23hashtag Then takes the user to twitter and puts the status in the update field. However, whilst the spaces (%20) are decoded fine the @ and # characters remain as %40 & %23 respectively, even when the tweet is posted. I cannot put the actual characters in the url as twitter mistakes this for a search. Is there any way to solve this? I'd like to do it without requiring username & password etc if possible. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  Hello everyone, I notice this site has a wealth of software professionals and I am investigating a career change to Software Engineering: *Particularly, I would like to know how likely one would be able to work from home or another country over the internet. Is this something that can be done and what does it usually entail? (time?,experience?, specific companies?, etc) *Currently, I am a teacher but always had a passion for tech. I am interested in a MS - Software Engineering program designed for individuals based from another field. Is this a wise degree to obtain? Would I be just wasting my time and money obtaining this degree?   I am trying to implement a regular expression to allow only one or two digits after a hyphen '-' and it doesn't work properly. • Rails 2.3.5: How to handle this type of validation

  The use case is simple. I allow users to enter in an expiration field which needs to be between 1 and 15 into a form. The model takes that number and converts it into a datetime (such as adding 15 days from today) and stores it in the database. What's the correct way to actually validate that though? Do I validate against the datetime format that gets persisted in the database or the select box (1..15) that the user gets to pick through the form? I want to be able to validate that the user is putting in 1..15.. How is this done with ActiveRecord validation in Rails 2.3.5?

  I have a table, MapLocation, which has a column and two relationships with tables that have a field that really need to be displayed as a single concatenated value. I was thinking this was a perfect case for a computed column, but not sure how to go about it. I haven't done much with computed columns or concatenating in SQL. Edit: I need an actual computed column that is automatically updated, im looking for the formula. Or is this more of a function/trigger? Its possible, I certainly barely know what I'm doing. The idea is that I dont want to have to do two more server calls and concatenate these values client side.

• Setting an empty default value for a char-column in MySQL?

  Hi In phpMyAdmin I have a char(32) column that has no default value(ie. Default: None). When I try to insert data through a SQL query, it throws out an error saying that the column "doesn't have a default value". I need it to be empty, so instead I've just set it's default value as "As defined: " and then nothing in the value field. Is this a bad idea? And is it any better than simply throwing in an empty value for the column in the SQL query? Thanks for your time.

• Querying a smalldatetime's date and time seperately in SQL server?

  Imagine a table that has two fields, a smalltimedate and an int and about 1000 rows of data. What I'm attempting to do in query is to find the average of the INT field for rows between 3/3/2010 - 3/13/2010 and only if the entry is between 6:00am - 11:00pm. I tried between '2010-03-03 06:00 AND 2010-03-13 23:00' However that only restricts that very beginning and end times. I could do this with a loop but I'm going to need to have the same query run over much larger date ranges and this will quickly eat server resources. Is there a way to query date and time seperately?

• Any ORMs that easily support access to raw table schema?

  I work with a ASP.NET UI framework that pulls fields for a particular screen off a database. These fields can be associated with particular data fields in another database for binding. The idea with this setup is that if a client needs a new column on a table, they can easily add it, and create a UI field that binds to it without any sort of application restart or recompile. The problem I've always had with this is that it has meant I'm always having to work with untyped datasets in my code. Are there any ORM libraries for .NET out there that could easily accommodate the requirement of being able to access arbitrary columns in the table schema over and above ones mapped to strongly typed fields?

• Dismissing the keyboard in a UIScrollView

  Alright, I have a couple of UITextFields and UITextViews inside a UIScrollView, and I'd like to set the keyboard to disappear whenever the scrollview is touched or scrolled (except when you touch down inside the text field/view, of course). My current attempt at doing this is replacing the UIScrollView with a subclass, and setting it to call a removeKeyboard function (defined inside the main view controller) inside the touchesBegan method. However, this only removes the keyboard for a normal touch, not when the view is simply scrolled. So, what's the best way to remove the keyboard inside a UIScrollView? Smart Search was enabled by default and now I've got a few "finder" tables full of indexed phrases and therms. I wonder if there are any disadvantages if I'd: Disable the Smart Search plugin Remove these 'finder' tables completely Aha, we're using a Search field, which works fine, but I'm not sure what's going to happen if I disable the plugin and remove these tables. Will it then search for phrases in content Joomla tables or simply break w/o missing 'finder' tables Has anyone tried this before?

  I have few small basic problems : How to format : int i = 456; to give output : ""00000456" ? I've tried %08d but it's not working. Next thing is a problem with conversion and then formatting. I have side and height of triangle, let's say int's 4,7, and 7 is the height. From formula for field we know that F=1/2(a*h). So how to get F as float, with precision up to 10 places ? float f = a*h; works fine, but multiplying it by 0.5 gives error and by 1/2 returns 0.

Only letters and numbers should be allowed, and also the swedish three letters å, ä, ö, and also not case sensitive. Besides the above, these should also be allowed: The "&" sign.   I've been searching google a lot for this issue and really found nothing. People just keep copying MySQL documentation on last_insert_id and nothing else. I've got an issue regarding last_insert_id, because for both situations (php & sql) it returns 0. YES: I've set a PRIMARY & UNIQUE field with AUTO_INCREMENT value YES: i've done some inserting before NO: Making double query with INSERT AND SELECT LAST... doesn't work. I've created a class Db for maintaining connection & query: class Db { public function connect() { $db = new mysqli('','','','',''); ... return $db; } public function insert() { $this->connect()->query("INSERT INTO bla bla..."); return $this->connect()->insert_id; } } And it doesn't work.

• How to insert large files in mysql database using php? [closed]

  Hi! I want to upload a large file of size 10M max to my mysql database. Using .htaccess i changed the PHP's own file upload limit to "10485760" = 10M, i am able to upload files upto 10M size without any problem. But i can not insert the file in database if it is more that 1M in size. i am using file_get_contents to read all file data and pass it to the insert query as a string to be inserted into a LONGBLOB field. But files with more than 1M size is not being added to database, though i can use print_r($_FILES) to examine that the file uploaded correctly. Any help will be appreciated and i will need it within next 6 hours. • Adding my own items to Long Click on Text Box menu on android

  Hi all, I am currently developing an application for android. I'm not sure if this is possible but here it goes. When the user clicks and holds on a text box whether it is a website or a piece of software a menu is displayed which shows paste and input method. What I want to be able to do is add my own items to this menu and when the user clicks on my item it will load my app, they can select an item from a list view. It will then copy the contents and automatically paste it into the text field the user selected. Thanks for your help in this matter

• Problem with Nulls and an UPDATE statement

  UPDATE TableA SET Value = a.Value * b.AnotherValue FROM TableA AS a INNER JOIN TableB AS b WHERE (Condition is true); Here is the problem. The Value field for TableA does not allow nulls. If the calculation of a.Value * b.AnotherValue yields a null, an error is thrown. Now the question. Is there any way to tell the UPDATE to ignore the SET phase when the result of the calculation is a null and delete the record rather than updating it. This UPDATE is intended to update hundreds of records at a time but will fail if a single null is encountered. Also, please note that using the ISNULL() function and setting the Value to zero is not acceptable. I would like the record to be dropped if a null is encountered.   I've been looking for documentation on the standard behaviour for mail servers who fail to deliver their mail. I want the 'From' field to be different from the account that receives emails when there is a delivery failure. E.g. My program sends an email from '[email protected]', and on failure to deliver I want to be sent the delivery failure bounceback at '[email protected]'. Is this accomplished by setting the reply-to? Or should I login with the 'failedemails' account and therefore it will receive the email back? Thanks.

Each bottom of the table (Table Footer), I have something called: "Total: " which is a sum of Total field. • Given a user control with a form containing validation can I validate entirely server side?

  We have an existing User Control that was built to dynamically generate a web form for an end user. This form includes required field validators, custom validators that use server side code and Regular Expression validatiors. We now have a need to use all these validators to verify that all the needed data is entered when using a separate ordering process that cannot be validated in the same way, but has the same validation requirements before it is added to the database. I would like to use this user control to validate the input by passing it all the values and checking the validation summary. The only way I know how to do this is to render it to a page on the client side and trigger the form submit. Is there any way to populate and validate a web form entirely on the server side?

I have a general understanding of how a web farm works, I'm a web developer and I understand the technology behind it, but I'm curious to know specifically how a web farm is set up and which professionals are involved. Things to consider probably are the hardware, the power supply, the software managment, the cooling system and if possible the usage of green technology/power recycling. Basically, can you explain me how a web hosting company is structured and how it works? A big question, I know, but from what I already read here about the subject a lot of you know this stuff.   If you have an item where you allow users to add comments, how can you pass which item the user is replying too? I've though of using a hidden field in a form, however this can be easily changed using plugins such as firebug: <form method="post" action="blah"> <input type="hidden" name="item_id" value="<?php echo $item_id; ?>"> <!-- other form data here --> <input type="submit" name="submit"> </form> Or just simply using a session: $_SESSION['item_id'] = $item_id Is there a safe way to send the item data in a form?
