• PHP & MySQLi timeout

  Whenever I try to create a mysqli object, as in; $mysqli = new mysqli(host, user, pass, table); ...the page just loads for around a minute, then stops, showing all the content of the page up until that line. info() says that MySQLi (and MySQL if that matters) are enabled, and I can access the MySQL CLI. I'm also working on a local machine, not a remote server. I feel like I've missed something obvious. Can anyone shed some light on it? Edit: just for clarification, I am actually putting real values into the mysqli constructor :)

• Why Date Format in ASP NET MVC Differs when used inside Html Helper?

  Hi, I just came across a very interesting issue. If I use ViewData to pass a DateTime value to the view and then display it inside a textbox, even though I'm using String.Format in the exact same manner, I get different formatting results when using the Html.TextBox helper. <%= Html.TextBox("datefilter", String.Format("{0:d}", ViewData["datefilter"]))%> <input id="test" name="test" type="text" value="<%: String.Format("{0:d}", ViewData["datefilter"]) %>" /> The above code renders the following html: <input id="datefilter" name="datefilter" type="text" value="2010-06-18" /> <input id="test" name="test" type="text" value="18/06/2010" /> Notice how the fist line that uses the Html helper produces the date format in one way while the second one produces a very different output. Any ideas why? Note: I'm currently in Brazil, so the standard short date format here is dd/MM/yyyy.

  I'm trying to find a way to delay all code that takes place after I make a service call. The reason for this delay is that my service returns code necesarry for the following functions and the result I pass is to these following functions is undefined.   I am trying to run the following code using allegro. textout_ex(screen, font, numbComments , 100, 100, GREEN, BLACK); numbComments is an integer, the function prototype of this function is void textout_ex(BITMAP *bmp, const FONT *f, const char *s, int x, int y, int color, int bg); and i cannot, according to my understanding pass this integer in the third position. I therefore need to convert the integer into a string. I did it like this, but it didnt work.   Hi. I got .asmx a web service on my app. I need to call a method from an other app to get statistics from my app. I need it to return XML. the call to the webmethod is done with javascript soap. There is a default hellow world webmethod and calling that work but it seem that when i try to call a method where i need to pass parameters and it need to execute code it wont work and just return my error message. any ideas on what can be wrong. am I using the wrong web method?

• How to upload binary (audio) data from a Flash AS3 client to .NET server (WCF/REST/HTTP/?)?

  Simply stated: I'm trying to record audio in a browser, and get that data back up to the server. I originally tried to capture, encode and upload the audio using Silverlight, but because of the lack of suitable client-side encoding options, I'm now giving Flash a shot (Flash has baked-in support for encoding to Speex). I think I've figured out how to capture and encode the audio... But now what was easy in Silverlight, is the challenge in Flash. My server-side is .NET: MVC2- I'm open to receiving the audio in whatever manner is best- REST, WCF.. So that's my question: How could one upload binary data from Flash, to a .NET server-side endpoint. If the answer is WCF: then how would one setup the client-side proxies to communicate with the service? If the answer is REST or HTTP Post, then how would one construct this HTTP request and pass along the data? I've been reading up on AS3, but am new to Flash dev... Thanks for any help!

• Using read() directly into a C++ std:vector

  I'm wrapping up user space linux socket functionality in some C++ for an embedded system (yes, this is probably reinventing the wheel again). I want to offer a read and write implementation using a vector. Doing the write is pretty easy, I can just pass &myvec[0] and avoid unnecessary copying. I'd like to do the same and read directly into a vector, rather than reading into a char buffer then copying all that into a newly created vector. Now, I know how much data I want to read, and I can allocate appropriately (vec.reserve). I can also read into &myvec[0], though this is probably a VERY BAD IDEA. Obviously doing this doesn't allow myvec.size to return anything sensible. Is there any way of doing this that 1) Doesn't completely feel yucky from a safety/C++ perspective and 2) Doesn't involve two copies of the data block - once from kernel to user space and once from a C char * style buffer into a C++ vector. Any thoughts collective?

• Spring-Security http-basic auth in addition to other authentication types

  I have a pretty standard existing webapp using spring security that requires a database-backed form login for user-specific paths (such as /user/**), and some completely open and public paths (such as /index.html). However, as this webapp is still under development, I'd like to add a http-basic popup across all paths (/**) to add some privacy. Therefore, I'm trying to add a http-basic popup that asks for a universal user/pass combo (ex admin/foo) that would be required to view any path, but then still keep intact all of the other underlying authentication mechanisms. I can't really do anything with the <http> tag, since that will confuse the "keep out the nosy crawlers" authentication with the "user login" authentication, and I'm not seeing any way to associate different paths with different authentication mechanisms. Is there some way to do this with spring security? Alternatively, is there some kind of a dead simple filter that I can apply independently of spring-security's authentication mechanisms?

• Best way to store 3 pieces of data as a single entry

  For a game server, I want to record details when a player makes a kill, store this, and then at intervals update to a sql database. The part i'm interested in right now is the best method of storing the kill information. What i'd like to pass to the sql server on update would be {PlayerName, Kills, Deaths}, where the kills and deaths are a sum for the period between updates. So i'm assuming i'd build a list along the lines of {bob, 1, 0} {frank, 0, 1} {tom, 1, 0} {frank, 0, 1} then on update, consolidate the list to {frank, 14, 3}etc Can someone offer some advice please?

• Process for linking static ObjC libraries in XCode

  I'm trying to link to a static library and I keep getting linker errors. I've found a few sites that post examples but I have not been able to see what I am doing wrong. First I create a project that will link to my lib add existing files find my .xcodeproj file select "Copy items into destination groups folder"... Select my host project as Add To Targets. Then I add a direct dependency to my host app expand targets double click MyHost.app click + under direct dependencies select my lib Then I set build flags double click MyHost application icon in Groups and Files. click the build tab then I set the OtherLinerFlag to -ObjC then I set Header Search Paths to my header file location for my static library. I pass the compile stage but any classes in my static lib cause linker error: literal-pointer@_OBJC@_cls_refs@SomeClass in MyHost.o thanks!

• UTF-8 conversion

  Hey guys, I am grabbing a JSON array and storing it in a NSArray, however it includes JSON encoded UTF-8 strings, for example pass\u00e9 represents passé. I need a way of converting all of these different types of strings into the actual character. I have an entire NSArray to convert. Or I can convert it when it is being displayed, which ever is easiest. I found this chart http://tntluoma.com/sidebars/codes/ is there a convenience method for this or a library I can download? thanks, BTW, there is no way I can find to change the server so I can only fix it on my end...

  Django newbie here. I wrote simplified login form which takes email and password. It works great if both email and password are supplied, but if either is missing i get KeyError exception. According to django documentation this should never happen: By default, each Field class assumes the value is required, so if you pass an empty value -- either None or the empty string ("") -- then clean() will raise a ValidationError exception I tried to write my own validators for fields (clean_email and clean_password), but it doesn't work (ie I get KeyError exception). • Handling OPTIONS request in nginx

  We're using HAProxy as a load balancer at the moment, and it regularly makes requests to the downstream boxes to make sure they're alive using an OPTIONS request: OPTIONS /index.html HTTP/1.0 I'm working with getting nginx set up as a reverse proxy with caching (using ncache). For some reason, nginx is returning a 405 when an OPTIONS request comes in: 192.168.1.10 - - [22/Oct/2008:16:36:21 -0700] "OPTIONS /index.html HTTP/1.0" 405 325 "-" "-" 192.168.1.10 When hitting the downstream webserver directly, I get a proper 200 response. My question is: how to you make nginx pass that response along to HAProxy, or, how can I set the response in the nginx.conf? Thanks!

  Hi All, I am devloping a windows forms application and am using sql server 2005 database as my backend. I am having an xml column in my database. I am using ultrawingrid control in my application.I obtain the xml of the dataset which is bound to my ultrawingrid control and pass that as a parameter value to the stored procedure where am inserting this value into the xml column which I specified. The columns in my grid are dynamic and hence there can be any no of columns in my grid. I got 'out of memory' exception in the dataset.GetXml() statement since there were more no of columns I believe.So, what I did is that I used dataset.WriteXml() method and stored all the xml contents into an xml file, loaded the xml file into the XmlDocument object and then passed the xmlnodereader as the value to the stored procedure parameter.Now, while executing the stored procedure am getting the same 'out of memory' exception. How could I resolve this issue?

• Load JSON in Python as header chracterset

  Hi everyone, I've always found character-sets and encodings complicated to understand and here I'm faced with another problem. My apologies for any inaccuracies. I'll do my best. I'm requesting data from a server which returns JSON. In the HTTP headers it also returns the character.set like so: Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8 I'm using the JSON library in python to load the JSON using the json.loads method. When I pass it the returned JSON, it gives me a dictionary in Unicode. I've Googled around and I know that JSON should return Unicode as JavaScript strings are Unicode objects. How can I load the JSON as UTF-8. I would like to use the same encoding as specified in the response header. I've read this post but it didn't help. Thank you.

• Rails + Dragonfly gem: Saving image in a directory structure based on ActiveRecord object attributes

  I'm using dragonfly gem to manage images and attachments in my rails app and I need to store images in a specific directory structure based on my user model. let' say I have user model which has a name and each user has many albums, which have a name also, then I want the images to be stored in "#{RAILS_ROOT}/public/system/#{user.name}/#{user.album.name}/#{suffix}" I've managed to changed the root_path in dragon fly and I even overrided relative_storage_path like this: class MyDataStore < Dragonfly::DataStorage::FileDataStore private def relative_storage_path(suffix) "#{suffix}" end end but still, I don't know how I can pass the ActiveRecord object attributes like user.name and user.album.name to relative_storage_path to create my ideal path. do you have any idea how I can do such a thing?

• Coldfusion returning typed objects / AMF remoting

  Is the same possible in ColdFusion? Currently I am using .Net/Fluorine to return objects to the client. Whilst in testing I like to pass strings representing the select statement and the custom object I wish to have returned from my service. Fluorine has a class ASObject to which you can set the var 'typeName'; which works great. I am hoping that this is possible in Coldfusion. Does anyone know whether you can set the type of the returned object in a similar way. • C# event or delegate or other solution?

  Looking for some help or programmng ideas or mayeb there is some pattern that would help. Have an application that needs to fire alot of events sequentially, it could up to 100 or more unique events, it will be dynamic depeneding on the situation. Trying to find the best practice for doing this. My main idea right now is to create a list of objects iterate thru them, and fire each event. This seems wrong, or bad practice. Or maybe have one object and pass a list or params into one event? Or am I missing some feature in .NET that i could be using or implementing?

Our purpose is to instantiate it and pass it from controller to view and view read it and display the data. Those view model are usually instantiated through constructor. We won't need to initialize the members, we may not need to redefine/override parameterless constructor and we don't need inheritance feature there. So, why don't we use struct type for our view model instead of class. It will enhance the performance.

• How to create an object reference to a xaml page from App.xaml.cs codebehind?

  Hi all, I have a Silverlight 4 Business Project where I have enabled the ASP.NET Authentication/Authorization role information. I would like to pass the currently authenticated user's account information from the app.xaml.cs codebehind to a different XAML page, but I have no idea how that is done, or if it's even possible. My goal is to databind the IsEnabled property of various buttons of my target XAML page, based on whether the current user is in a particular admin related role or not. The Application_UserLoaded event handler of app.xaml.cs seems to be the safest event handler to initiate this task because it fires only after the user's account information is loaded from the server.   I'm trying to use Linq to SQL to return an IQueryable(of Project) when using foreign key relationships. Using the below schema, I want to be able to pass in a UserId and get all the projects created for the company the user is associated with.
