• Getting wrong serial-port names from bluetoothdevice (c#)

  To get all avaliable Serialports from the system i use the following command. SerialPort.GetPortNames It works fine for the mainboard serial port, but with the bluetooth device i get the wrong portnames. For Example: Instead of COM7 i get sometimes COM70 or COM7ö. Its always 1 letter to much. any suggestens? PS: I am using newest Visual Studio Express in Windows 7 PPS: The dirty hack to cut the last letter didn't work because i don't know which one is the bluetooth serial port (with various bluetoothstick or devices it changes the number of the comport) and after trying various sticks i reached COM10, ergo COM100 or COM10f

  I am a single developer without another computer to backup my projects on. I'm looking into source controls and I came across git but all the setup tutorials are targeted to an external server. I used to use SourceGear Vault, but seeing that git is getting alot of attention, I might as well familiarize myself with it. I do not always have internet access. Is Git suitable for me? • Type problem when including tuple

  I'm using Visual Studio 2008 with Feature Pack 1. I have a typedef like this typedef std::tr1::tuple<std::string, std::string, int> tileInfo with a function like this const tileInfo& GetTile( int x, int y ) const. In the implementation file the function has the exact same signature (with the added class name qualifier) and I am getting a redefinition: different type modifiers error. It seems to be looking for an int& instead of a tileInfo& When I mouse over the type of the function in the header, i.e. tileInfo& it brings up a little bar saying static const int tileInfo. I think this may be the problem, but I'm not sure what to do. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

  I downloaded: Microsoft® Visual Studio® 2010 and Team Foundation Server® 2010 Beta 2 for Microsoft® Virtual PC 2007 SP1 Image When I go into the default installation of TFS project site in Sharepoint ( http://vs2010beta2/sites/DefaultCollection/IBuySpy/Dashboards/ProjectDashboard_wss.aspx ) I get this error on the webparts. There are no accessible team projects in this Team Project Collection. Contact your Team Foundation Server administrator. In the Team Server Admin Console - Team Project Collection - Team Projects tab the projects are there. This is the default installation. Any suggestions???

• How to detect VC++ 2008 redistributable?

  Is there a Registry setting that I can look for to determine whether or not the Visual C++ redistributable is installed, whether standalone or as part of Visual Studio 2008? I know that I could launch the VC++ 2008 redistributable installer and let it handle the detection, but it would look cleaner if I can check for it and not bother launching the installer if the redistributable is already on the system. It's no biggie if there is no setting to search for, as this is just for the preliminary installers that we have for the new version of our software. We won't need it for the new Windows Installer-based installers that we are working on that will replace the old tech ones and will use the merge modules.

• C# testing framework that works like JUnit in Eclipse?

  Hello all, I come from a Java/Eclipse background and I fear that I am spoiled by how easy it is to get JUnit and JMock running in Eclipse, and have that GUI with the bar and pass/fail information pop up. It just works with no hassle. I see a lot of great options for testing in C# with Visual Studio. NUnit looks really nice because it contains unit and mock testing all in one. The trouble is, I can't figure out how to get the IDE display my results. The NUnit documentation seems to show that it doesn't automatically show results through the VS IDE. I found http://testdriven.net/, which seems to trumpet that is makes VS display these stats and work with multiple frameworks, but it isn't open source. Is there anyway to get unit and mock testing working with the VS IDE like it does in Java with Eclipse?

• How do I list all non-system stored procedures?

  I want to create a query to list of all user defined stored procedures, excluding the ones that are system stored procedures, considering that: Checking the name like "sp_" doesn't work because there are user stored procedures that start with "sp_". Checking the property is_ms_shipped doesn't work because there are system stored procedures that have that flag = 0, for example: sp_alterdiagram (it is not MSShipped but appears under System Stored Procedures in SQL Server Management Studio). There must be a property, or a flag somewhere since you can see the "System Stored Procedures" in a separate folder in SQL 2005. Does anyone know?   Is there a free code coverage tool suitable for use with .NET 4 and NUnit that runs from the command line (and is thus suitable for use on a build server)? Please note that any tools that require editions of Visual Studio higher than Professional are not appropriate in this case. I am asking this question because I can't get NCover 1.5.8 to work with NUnit 2.5.5 on a .NET 4 C# app. I can run the unit tests, and I can generate a Coverage.Xml file, but it is empty - it contains no sequence points. After a lot of research, I have concluded that this is because NCover 1.5.8 simply doesn't work with .NET 4. However, if you know better, please feel free to answer this question from another user.

  Hello, I have a problem using boost:program_options this simple program, copy-pasted from boosts' documentation : #include <boost/program_options.hpp> int main( int argc, char** argv ) { namespace po = boost::program_options; po::options_description desc("Allowed options"); desc.add_options() ("help", "produce help message") ("compression", po::value<int>(), "set compression level") ; return 0; } fails with a buffer overflow. I have activated the "buffer security switch", and when I run it I get an "unknown exception (0xc0000409)" when I step over the line desc.add_options()... I use Visual Studio 2005 and boost 1.43.0. By the way it does run if I deactivate the switch but I don't feel comfortable doing so... unless it's possible to deactivate it locally. So do you have a solution to this problem? EDIT I found the problem I was linking against libboost_program_options-vc80-mt.lib which wasn't the good library.

  scenerio:- a database server running sql server 2005 and sql server management studio 2005 express editions a web server running IIS 5.0v using windows xp pro. two other computer having windows xp and windows 98 i have a linksys router which i use to access point for wireless (laptop) there are 5 sockets behind it four for clients and one for internet. i would like to setup a LAN- something like a private hosting area with two clients. would should i do? where to connect what and what would the changes in settnigs be. right now it uses dhcp or something to assign ips. where will the webserver be attached to the internet socket? where will the db server be attached? any guide, links, help thank you

There is absolutely no lack of tutorials (starting with the ones on Silverlight.net or Scott Gu's blogs), but everything I have found is "by example". Is there a resource that explains how data binding works in Silverlight, from a Fundamental/Conceptual perspective, and provides end-to-end coverage of data binding features? • IIS not serving up .dat files.

  Hi all, I have a ASP MVC web application that uses a plugin to load images and points for a 3d application. When debugging with the the Visual Studio development server the images and the points are served up great... http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s19/littleniv/Debugging/local.png Second image: same url but iis.png When running in IIS 7 though the .Dat point files do not serve and produce a 404. I've noticed the caching is marked as private in fiddler, but i don't know what this means. Can anyone help? Cheers, Stu

  I have a datatable that contains the rows of a database table. This table has a primary key formed by 2 columns. The components are assigned this way: datatable - bindingsource - datagridview. What I want is to search a specific row (based on the primary key) to select it on the grid. I cant use the bindingsource.Find method because you only can use one column. I have access to the datatable, so I do manually search on the datatable, but how can I get bindingsource row position based on the datatable row? Or there is another way to solve this? Im using Visual Studio 2005, VB.NET.

• Auto-complete/suggestion popup menu in GtkTextView

  I'm trying to create a system that will allow me to respond to the current text and auto-complete/suggest what should come next. For example if the user starts to type "Batm" then the system would respond with a menu showing the full completed word "Batman". Think of an IDE like Eclipse or Visual Studio and you get the idea. I understand how to create a popup menu in Gtk+ but what I don't understand is the following: How do I grab the word that the user is currently typing from a GtkTextView (or SourceView) so that I can do a lookup and offer suggestions? How do I position the menu in such a way that it sits next to the current text item (like it would in an IDE)? If anyone could offer suggestions or even a link to a tutorial or example on how to do this correctly I would be forever grateful. As always thanks for you help! Programming language: C

  Ran accross the following code in an article and didn't think it was standard C/C++ syntax for the char* array. As a test, both Visual C++ (visual studio 2005) and C++ Builder Rad XE both reject the 2nd line. Without using #defines, anyone have any tricks/tips for keeping enums and a string array sort of in sync without resorting to STL ?   Hi Everyone, Is it possible to get the memory address of a variable in C#. What I am trying to do is very simple. I want to declare variables of type Double, Float, Decimal and assign the value 1.1 to each of these variables. Then I would like to go and see how these values are represented in memory. I need to get the memory address of the variable in order to see how its stored in memory. Once I have the memory address I plan to put a break point in the code and use the Debug - Windows - Memory option in visual studio to see how the numbers are stored in memory. Cheers,

• Which Hadoop API version should I use?

  In the latest Hadoop Studio the 0.18 API of Hadoop is called "Stable" and the 0.20 API of Hadoop is called "Unstable". The distribution that comes from Yahoo is a 0.20 (with yahoo patches), which is apparently "the way to go". From cloudera they state the 0.20 (with cloudera patches) is also stable. Now given the fact that we'll start coding a new Hadoop project in the next few weeks; which API should we use and which Hadoop distribution (Apache, Cloudera, Yahoo, ...) should we use? • WCF service reference stopped generating code for one project

  I have references to two different WCF services in a project. I updated the reference for one of the services, and now no code is generated for it. The references.cs file just has the "this is genrated code" comment at the top. Updating that same service in other projects and updating the other service both work fine. It's only that one service reference in this one project that's causing the problem, and I'm getting no information from Visual Studio (it just says it failed to generate code and I should look at the other errors, which provide no information). If I uncheck the "reuse types in referenced assemblies", code is generated, but I don't want to have this one project be different from the others. I'd like to solve the problem. Re-checking the reuse type option produces an empty references.cs file, again. The collection type doesn't seem to matter, either. How can I diagnose and solve this problem?

I am opening another window from the TreeView click (Single Click) event (in tabbed environment, so all windows will appear as a tab in Visual Studio). I want to set focus to one control of the new window. The problem is that, I am able to set the focus on the double click event of the TreeView. But same doesn't seem to be working with the TreeView single-click event. Any workarounds?

  I'm trying to write a SQLCLR function that takes a DateTime2 as input and returns another DateTime2. Based on this post I altered the parameter to be the C# type DateTime giving me the level of precision I require.   I'm currently using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010. If we say that we give 10 different people a copy of MSVC 10 and a short C++ Hello, World listing. They all create a new project using exactly the same settings, add a new cpp file with the Hello, World program and compile it. Do they all get the exactly same binary? If not, what are the exact differences? What information about my system does MSVC add to my executeable? Paranoia!

  I am currently trying to upgrade a project of mine from .NET 3.5 to .NET 4.0 Everything was going really well, all code compiled, all tests passed. Then I hit a problem deploying to my stagomg environment. Suddenly my logins were no longer working. It seems my SHA1 hashed passwords are being hashed differently in .NET 4. I am using the SHA1CryptoServiceProvider: SHA1CryptoServiceProvidercryptoTransformSHA1 = new SHA1CryptoServiceProvider(); To test I created a new Visual Studio project with 2 console applications. The first targeted at .NET Framework 3.5 and the second at 4.0. I ran exactly the same hashing code in both and different results were produced. Why is this happening and how can I fix this? I obviously cannot go update all of my users passwords considering I do not know what they are. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What I would like to do is Open a excel file that is the XLTemplatePath and the either rename or save the file at the XLSaveReportPath and then use that renamed/saved file to fill the report out. I am using Visual Studio 2008 in VB.NET
