• What is the relationship between IRimTable and PersistenceStore?

  The BlackBerry Desktop API has the interface IRimTable which apparently maps an "application database" on a BlackBerry device to a virtual structure (i.e, IRimTable has IRimRecords, each of which has IRimField) that developer can browse the handheld device data when it is connected to a desktop computer. Meanwhile, applications in the handheld device can store its data in PersistenceStore databases. The point where I'm stuck is the PersistenceStore API doesn't define any Table or Records or Fields. Does anybody knows what is the relationship between these two classes? And how does the mapping work (if at all) ?

• Custom Item in ListActivity on Android

  Hello everyone, I've spent hours reading through the SDK reference, googling and reading tutorials - but I still can't figure it out. I would like to know how to create a custom list item in the ListActivity widget on Android. Something similar to a Twitter client interface. Each list item has different types of text, possibly an icon, etc. Does anyone know of any resources that would help me understand the process of creating something like that? • Why do Java/C# edge out C++ as the recommended language to learn OOP on S.O?

  I noticed after reading the answers/discussion to this question (What is the best language to learn OOP on?) - that more and more people are recommending C# or Java over C++ to learn OOP on. A simple term search on that answer page results in 10 hits for C++, 21 for C# and 27 for Java. Now, I understand that these 2 languages fix a lot of quirks and issues with C++, and looked up these resources that relate mostly to performance, JVM vs native implementation, systems focus vs applications, manual memory management vs automated et al. My question is - are there any fundamental differences in the OO capabilities of Java/C# vs C++? Or are the former recommended purely due to their generic ease of use/improvements over the latter? Thanks. PS, I'm aware of Java interface inheritance vs C++ multiple inheritance as a difference. I would consider that an implementational one rather than functional.

• Sticky Footers that move down when dynamic content gets loaded

  I've been using this snippet of jQuery to get a sticky footer: if($(document.body).height() < $(window).height()){ $("#footer").css({position: "absolute",top:($(window).scrollTop()+$(window).height()-$("#footer").height())+"px", width: "100%"}); } $(window).scroll(positionFooter).resize(positionFooter); However, that breaks when I've got expandable/collapsible divs lying around where the original content was less high than the window, since it is then stuck to the bottom of the window, rather than the bottom of the document. Is there a way of fixing this, or a better way of doing it? Please bear in mind that I don't have much control over the HTML, since I need to do this in Django's admin interface, which doesn't allow much injection of HTML in the places you might want to to accomplish this sort of thing (i.e. this answer and this answer don't work for me).

• Editing a UIViewController from another class.

  I am trying to programmatically change the user interface of a UIViewController from another NSObject class. The problem is that I am unsure of how to access the UIViewController's view from the NSObject class. So for example, in my NSObject class, I say something like: self.view = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 480)]; self.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor yellowColor]; but I keep getting errors saying "Request for member "view" in something not a strut or union." Is there something I need to allow my NSObject class to see my UIViewController? Thanks!

  I have a third-party (Win32) DLL, written in C, that exposes the following interface: DLL_EXPORT typedef enum { DEVICE_PCI = 1, DEVICE_USB = 2 } DeviceType; DLL_EXPORT int DeviceStatus(DeviceType kind); I wish to call it from Delphi. How do I get access to the DeviceType constants in my Delphi code? Or, if I should just use the values 1 and 2 directly, what Delphi type should I use for the "DeviceType kind" parameters? Integer? Word?

I have also base class for data managers BaseDataManager<T> : IDataManager<T> where T : EntityObject, IDataObject .... And i have particular classes public class Result : EntityObject, IDataObject .... public class ResultDataManager : BaseDataManager<Result> ... I want to implement service locator, which will return instance of IDataManager<T> for T But I stucked how to implement it in a neat way without a lot of castings. Any ideas?

• What format do I use to store a relatively small amount of user data

  I am writing a small program for our local high school (pro bono). The program has an interface allows the user to enter school holidays. This is a simple stand alone Windows app. What format should I use to store the data? A big relational data is obviously overkill. My initial plan was to store the data in an XML file. Co-workers have been suggesting that I use JSON files, Access Databases, SQL Lite, and SQL Server Express. There was even a suggestion of old school INI files.

• Clean bindings with structs

  I have a model class for which it makes quite a lot of sense to have NSSize and NSPoint instance variables. This is lovely. I'm trying to create an editing interface for this object. I'd like to bind to size.width and whatnot. This, of course, doesn't work. What's the cleanest, most Cocoa-y solution to this problem? Of course I could write separate accessors for the individual members of every struct I use, but it seems like there should be a better solution.

  Hi all, From a security standpoint, what is the best solution to handle application errors with Websphere? I've been thinking of creating a class that is called every time an application error is generated, log the error and display a generic error message to the users. In PHP this can be achieved using the set_exception_handler() function. Is there something similar for websphere that could be configured in the web.xml? I've found codes like this on the internet: <error-page> <error-code>500</error-code> <location>/servlet/ExceptionHandlerServlet</location> </error-page> But that would only work with "500" HTTP error codes. I really want something generic that catches everything. Something like a class that implements a certain interface which can have access to all information about the error. Thanks for your time.

  My UI is not updating when I expect it to. The application displays "projects" using a view similar to iTunes -- a source list on the left lets you filter a list (NSTableView) on the right. My filters update properly when they are examining any simple field (like name, a string), but not for arrays (like tags). I'm removing a tag from one of my objects (from an NSMutableArray field called "tags") and I expect it to disappear from the list because it no longer matches the predicate that is bound to my table's NSArrayController. • Best Tomcat6 JNDI + Hibernate configuration for session/transaction support

  I use tomcat6 as a servlet container, and need to integrate Hibernate 3.2 into the project. I found a document how to configure SessionFactory lookup through JNDI, though it does not work as expected. Quote: Hibernate works in any environment that uses JTA, in fact, we recommend to use JTA whenever possible as it is the standard Java transaction interface. End of quote. In hibernate config I indicate current_session_context_class = jta and now I get an error "No TransactionManagerLookup specified". The problem is that Tomcat does not support JTA, and to get it worked, if I understand it correctly, you need to add JOTM or other library to Tomcat. But according to quote it is recommended to use JTA. What can you recommend in this situation?

• Java app makes screen display unresponsive after 10 minutes of user idle time

  I've written a Java app that allows users to script mouse/keyboard input (JMacro, link not important, only for the curious). I personally use the application to automate character actions in an online game overnight while I sleep. Unfortunately, I keep coming back to the computer in the morning to find it unresponsive. Upon further testing, I'm finding that my application causes the computer to become unresponsive after about 10 minutes of user idle time (even if the application itself it simulating user activity). I can't seem to pin-point the issue, so I'm hoping somebody else might have a suggestion of where to look or what might be causing the issue. The relevant symptoms and characteristics: Unresponsiveness occurs after user is idle for 10 minutes User can still move the mouse pointer around the screen Everything but the mouse appears frozen... mouse clicks have no effect and no applications update their displays, including the Windows 7 desktop I left the task manager up along the with the app overnight so I could see the last task manager image before the screen freezes... the Java app is at normal CPU/Memory usage and total CPU usage is only ~1% After moving the mouse (in other words, the user comes back from being idle), the screen image starts updating again within 30 minutes (this is very hit and miss... sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes no results after two hours) User can CTRL-ALT-DEL to get to Windows 7's CTRL-ALT-DEL screen (after a 30 second pause). User is still able to move mouse pointer, but clicking any of the button options causes the screen to appear to freeze again On some very rare occasions, the system never freezes, and I come back to it in the morning with full responsiveness The Java app automatically stops input scripting in the middle of the night, so Windows 7 detects "real" idleness and turns the monitors into Standby mode... which they successfully come out of upon manually moving the mouse in the morning when I wake up, even though the desktop display still appears frozen Given the symptoms and characteristics of the issue, it's as if the Java app is causing the desktop display of the logged in user to stop updating, including any running applications. Programming concepts and Java packages used: Multi-threading Standard out and err are rerouted to a javax.swing.JTextArea The application uses a Swing GUI awt.Robot (very heavily used) awt.PointerInfo awt.MouseInfo System Specs: Windows 7 Professional Java 1.6.0 u17 In conclusion, I should stress that I'm not looking for any specific solutions, as I'm not asking a very specific question. I'm just wondering if anybody has run into a similar problem when using the Java libraries that I'm using. I would also gladly appreciate any suggestions for things to try to attempt to further pinpoint what is causing my problem. Thanks!   Hi, I have installed osqa on a site hosted on hostgator. The login functionality is working for google,yahoo,facebook. But when i click on twitter icon its generating an exception. I have already added the twitter consumer key and the twitter consumer secret through admin interface. IN the server there are some UI, this UI contain check response parameter such as. response code timeout interval While the server want to response the client message, the response code taken from input parameter response form UI check the timeout interval, it will create sleep thread and the interval taken from timeout interval input from UI. I have implement the function, but I create it in one class. I feel it so sucks. Can you suggest me what class / interface that I must create to refactor my code.

  I've added as wsdl file using the add servece reference dialog in vs2008. MyService serviceproxy = new MyService(); When I instantiate the service proxy, I get an InvalidOperationException with the following text (translated from german): Could not find default endpoint element to the contract "ServiceName.ServiceInterface" in the service model refers client configuration section. This may be because: The application configuration file was not found or not an endpoint in the client element item is found, which corresponded to this contract. Where servicename is the name I give the service when I add it in vs2008 and ServiceInterface the interface which is automatically generated for it.

• PHP: friend classes and ungreedy caller function/class

  Is there any way to get the caller function with something else than debug_backtrace()? I'm looking for a less greedy way to simulate scopes like friend or internal. Let's say I have a class A and a class B. Until now, I've been using debug_backtrace(), which is too greedy (IMHO). I thought of something like this: <?php class A { public function __construct(B $callerObj) {} } class B { public function someMethod() { $obj = new A($this); } } ?> It might be OK if you want to limit it to one specific class, but let's say I have 300 classes, and I want to limit it to 25 of them? One way could be using an interface to aggregate: public function __construct(CallerInterface $callerObj) But it's still an ugly code. Moreover, you can't use that trick with static classes. Have any better idea?

• Stream/string/bytearray transformations in Python 3

  Python 3 cleans up Python's handling of Unicode strings. I assume as part of this effort, the codecs in Python 3 have become more restrictive, according to the Python 3 documentation compared to the Python 2 documentation. For example, codecs that conceptually convert a bytestream to a different form of bytestream have been removed: base64_codec bz2_codec hex_codec And codecs that conceptually convert Unicode to a different form of Unicode have also been removed (in Python 2 it actually went between Unicode and bytestream, but conceptually it's really Unicode to Unicode I reckon): rot_13 My main question is, what is the "right way" in Python 3 to do what these removed codecs used to do? They're not codecs in the strict sense, but "transformations". But the interface and implementation would be very similar to codecs. I don't care about rot_13, but I'm interested to know what would be the "best way" to implement a transformation of line ending styles (Unix line endings vs Windows line endings) which should really be a Unicode-to-Unicode transformation done before encoding to byte stream, especially when UTF-16 is being used, as discussed this other SO question.

  Is a PolyModel-based class able to be used as a SelfReferenceProperty ? I have the below code : class BaseClass(polymodel.PolyModel): attribute1 = db.IntegerProperty() attribute2 = db.StringProperty() class ParentClass(BaseClass): attribute3 = db.StringProperty() class ChildClass(BaseClass): parent = SelfReferenceProperty(collection_name = 'children') p = ParentClass() p.attribute1 = 1 p.attribute2 = "Parent Description" p.attribute3 = "Parent additional data" p.put() c = ChildClass() c.attribute1 = 5 c.attribute2 = "Child Description" c.parent = p.key() c.put() I execute this code and check the datastore via the development server's admin interface. The parent instance is saved to the datastore class = 'BaseClass,ParentClass', but the child is not. There is no error output to the browser (debug is turned on) and nothing in the launcher's log for my app. Is this possible to do ?

• Automate download of BusinessObjecs Web Intelligence reports

  I'm tasked with automating the retrieval of a couple of BusinessObjects Web Intelligence reports and further processing thereof. I have no other means of access to this data (this was the first avenue I followed), so I will have to do some screen scraping. Alas, the interface seems user-only. Grr! Has anyone done this before? Like to share? Also, does anyone know of a good library for automating the web browser? I know there is a python thingy out there that can be used for testing web applications - I need something in .NET though... What is your favorite? PS: I have also checked this thread (automate getting report from webpage), but am hoping for a Web Intelligence specific sollution.
