  • Can Settings bundle use values from application's Info.plist file?

    Hi, is it possible to use values from application's Info.plist file as DefaultValue value for items in Settings.bundle? For example CFBundleVersion. I've tried entering it as ${CFBundleVersion} but it didn't work. I've also tried changing DefaultValue type but with no success. Any ideas? The reasons behind are simple: CFBundleVersion is known at compile time, so I won't have to take its value from application's mainBundle and then apply that value to NSUserDefaults. Other reason is that just after installing the app, but before running it, Settings bundle values are not in-sync as the code setting NSUserDefaults did not have a chance to execute itself... so it would be boring to always remember that I have to change my Settings bundle values manually.

  • Do assembly strong names change when new versions of .Net are released?

    I'm trying to load an assembly that was installed as part of .Net 3.5 SP1 using Assembly.Load() by referencing its strong name. This works fine on my computer right now, but is it future proof? Will the strong name of core .Net assemblies change when patches are installed or new versions of the .Net framework are released? If so, how can I load an assembly from the GAC without using it's strong name?

    I am looking for a static function in the .NET framework which takes an XML snippet and an Xslt file, applies the transformation in memory, and returns the transformed XML. I would like to do this: string rawXml = invoiceTemplateDoc.MainDocumentPart.Document.InnerXml; rawXml = DoXsltTransformation(rawXml, @"c:\prepare-invoice.xslt")); // ... do more manipulations on the rawXml Alternatively, instead of taking and returning strings, it could be taking and returning XmlNodes. Is there such a function?

  • Unittest in Django. Static variable feeded into the test case

So the data will get generated every time django test framework calls the function. Is there anyway to use something like the singleton or static variable to solve the problem?   • Is RIA Services right for our Silverlight app at this point?

    Hi, I'm looking at Silverlight architectures and RIA Services looks interesting, but I am a bit concerned about its prelease status and how the feature set will change. We need our client app to be as responsive as possible over a slow network link, so a high priority is a solid sync system for pushing model state changes from the client back to the server. Will RIA Services help us in this regard or will I have to roll my own logic to do this ? Are there any other frameworks that can assist with this? Is the feature set involved in these requirements liable to change much in the next couple of months? If it makes any difference, our frontend is 100% Silverlight, so we dont need to worry about exposing SOAP APIs from the server or anything like that. It appears to me that RIA so far is a bit more mature for Silverlight use. Is this correct?

    I have an API which opens an access database for read and write. The API opens the connection when it's constructed and closes the connection when it's destructed. When the db is opened an .ldb file is created and when it closes it's removed (or disappears). There are multiple applications using the API to read and write to the access db. I want to know: Is ldb file used to track multiple connections Does calling an db.close() closes all connections or just one instance. Will there be any sync issues with the above approach.

    Using Git or Mercurial, how would you know when you do a clone or a pull, no one is checking in files (pushing it)? It can be important that: 1) You never know it is in an inconsistent state, so you try for 2 hours trying to debug the code for what's wrong. 2) With all the framework code -- potentially hundreds of files -- if some files are inconsistent with the other, can't the rake db:migrate or script/generate controller cause some damage or inconsistencies to the code base?

    I'm trying to design a system similar to the traditional server monitoring systems like MOM, Tivoli, Open View, where an agent will record data and then upload it to a central database once a day, but them also be able to send immediate alerts back to the server. I'm not sure what the best methodology might be for this. I've started looking at Microsoft sync services but I'm not sure if it will fit my needs. I'm using VS2008 and C#.     Each version of Visual Studio comes with a specific version of the MFC framework, but I believe MFC SDK can be downloaded separately. Since MFC is just C++, is there any reason you couldn't use the latest version with an older version of VC++... I don't mean trying to get the ribbon working in MSVC++ 6, But we're on VS2005 and some of the newer MFC features would be useful.
