• How to troubleshoot ethernet port on laptop

  I have a problem with my wired connection. To be more specific, my laptop doesn't seems to recognize that I have plugged in an ethernet cable. I tried to download new drivers for my ethernet card, but I couldn't find any solutions. Maybe because I am new to Linux, so I'm not familiar with running commands in the terminal. I have changed recently my internet provider, and since then my ethernet cable is not recognized by the laptop. At that time I was still on Windows. I thought that with Ubuntu the problem would be solved, but unfortunately the problem still persists. If someone can help me to solve my problem I'll be thankful. • Application stuck in TCP retransmit

  I am running Linux kernel 3.13 (Ubuntu 14.04) on two Virtual Machines each of which operates inside two different servers running ESXi 5.1. There is a zeromq client-server application running between the two VMs. After running for about 10-30 minutes, this application consistently hangs due to inability to retransmit a lost packet. When I run the same setup over Ubuntu 12.04 (Linux 3.11), the application never fails If you notice below, "ss" (socket statistics) shows 1 packet lost, sk_wmem_queued of 14110 (i.e. w14110) and a high rto (120000). I found that the packet which is lost does get retransmitted and even acknowledged by the TCP in the other OS (the sequence number is seen in the ACK), but the sender doesn't seem to understand this ACK and continues retransmitting. MTU is 9000 on both virtual machines and througout the route. The packets being sent are large in size. As I said earlier, this does not happen on Ubuntu 12.04 (kernel 3.11). So I did a diff on the TCP config options (seen via "sysctl -a |grep tcp ") between 14.04 and 12.04 and found the following differences. I also noticed that net.ipv4.tcp_mtu_probing=0 in both configurations.   Hello All, I am trying to use the Bluetooth Chat sample API app that google provides to connect to a bluetooth RS232 adapter hooked up to another device. Here is the app for reference: http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/BluetoothChat/index.html And here is the spec sheet for the RS232 connector just for reference: http://serialio.com/download/Docs/BlueSnap-guide-4.77_Commands.pdf Well the problem is that when I go to connect to the device with: mmSocket.connect(); (BluetoothSocket::connect()) I always get an IOException error thrown by the connect() method. When I do a toString on the exception I get "Service discovery failed". My question is mostly what are the cases that would cause an IOException to get thrown in the connect method? I know those are in the source somewhere but I don't know exactly how the java layer that you write apps in and the C/C++ layer that contains the actual stacks interface. I know that it uses the bluez bluetooth stack which is written in C/C++ but not sure how that ties into the java layer which is what I would think is throwing the exception. Any help on pointing me to where I can try to dissect this issue would be incredible. Also just to note I am able to pair with the RS232 adapter just fine but I am never able to actually connect. The below is merged from a similar question which was successfully resolved by the selected answer here: How can one connect to an rfcomm device other than another phone in Android? The Android API provides examples of using listenUsingRfcommWithServiceRecord() to set up a socket and createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord() to connect to that socket. I'm trying to connect to an embedded device with a BlueSMiRF Gold chip. My working Python code (using the PyBluez library), which I'd like to port to Android, is as follows: sock = bluetooth.BluetoothSocket(proto=bluetooth.RFCOMM) sock.connect((device_addr, 1)) return sock.makefile() ...so the service to connect to is simply defined as channel 1, without any SDP lookup. As the only documented mechanism I see in the Android API does SDP lookup of a UUID, I'm slightly at a loss. Using "sdptool browse" from my Linux host comes up empty, so I surmise that the chip in question simply lacks SDP support.

• How to intercept raw soap request/response (data) from WCF client

  This question seems to be pretty close to what I am looking for - I was able to setup tracing and I am looking at the log entries for my calls to the service. However I need to see the raw soap request with the data I am sending to the service and I see no way of doing that from the SvcTraceViewer (only log entries are shown but no data sent to the service) - am I just missing configuration?   OK, this probably is supposed to be the easiest thing in the world, but I've been trying for the entire day, and it's still not working.. Any help is highly appreciated! What I did: Downloaded Tomcat 6.0.26 & Spring 3.0.1 Downloaded PetClinic from https://src.springframework.org/svn/spring-samples/petclinic Built & deployed petclinic.war. Ran fine with default TopLink persistence. Edited webapps/WEB-INF/spring/applicationContext-jpa.xml and changed jpaVendorAdaptor from TopLink to Hibernate. Edited webapps/WEB-INF/web.xml and changed context-param from applicationContext-jdbc.xml to applicationContext-jpa.xml Copied everything in the Spring 3.0.1 distribution to TOMCAT_HOME/lib. Launched tomcat. Saw Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException: ClassLoader [org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader] does NOT provide an 'addTransformer(ClassFileTransformer)' method. Specify a custom LoadTimeWeaver or start your Java virtual machine with Spring's agent: -javaagent:spring-agent.jar Uncommented line <Loader loaderClass="org.springframework.instrument.classloading.tomcat.TomcatInstrumentableClassLoader"/> in webapps/META-INF/context.xml. I have written a WCF router which the client application calls it and the router sends the message to the Java Web Service and returns the data back to the client. The part I'd like to fix is the queries. I have to use TestService.svc/xml/GetDateOffset?numDays=4 instead of TestService.svc/xml/GetDateOffset/4. If I specify the UriTemplate, I get the error: Endpoints using 'UriTemplate' cannot be used with 'System.ServiceModel.Description.WebScriptEnablingBehavior'. But of course without using <enableWebScript/>, JSON doesn't work. The only other thing I've seen that I think will work is making 3 different services (.svc files), that all implement an interface that specifies the contract, but in the classes specify different WebGet/WebInvoke attributes on each class. This seems like a lot of extra work, that frankly, I don't see why the framework doesn't handle for me. The implementation of the classes would all be the same, except for the attributes, which means over time it would be easy for bugs/changes to get fixed/done in one implementation but not the others, leading to inconsistent behaviour when using the JSON vs SOAP implementation for example. Am I doing something wrong here? Am I taking a totally wrong approach and misusing WCF? Is there a better way to do this? With my experience doing web stuff, I think it should be possible for some kind of framework to handle this ... I even have an idea in my head of how to build it. It just seems like WCF is supposed to be doing this, and I don't really want to reinvent the wheel.

• WCF app Deployed on Win7 Machine and get connection refused error

  I have created a Sync Framework application based on the following sample from microsoft and deployed it to a new Windows 7 machine for testing. The app runs ok but when I attempt to communicate I get the following error: Could not connect to http://localhost:8000/RelationalSyncContract/SqlSyncService/. TCP error code 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:8000. I am wondering if there is something I am missing. This is my first experience using WCF and followed microsoft sample code. I have disabled the firewall and opened port 8000 for both TCP and UDP. Not sure what to look at next. A strongly named application or component cannot reference a weak-named component, so strong-naming an EXE prevents the EXE from referencing weak-named DLLs that are deployed with the application. For this reason, the Visual Studio project system does not strong-name application EXEs. Instead, it strong-names the Application manifest, which internally points to the weak-named application EXE. • Inconsistent responses from ISAPI DLL in mod_isapi.

  I have a ISAPI dll which I created with Delphi 2009, and I have been able to test that it functions as designed when I run it inside of IIS 5.1. However when I attempt to host the web service from within Apache on Windows XP using mod_isapi, I do not get consistent results. The ISAPI dll implements a very simple SOAP service with two methods. One method is a simple echo service that sends back the string sent to it. The second method is used to send a file to the server using a TSoapAttachement (Mutipart MIME). The interface can be descibes as follows IPdiSvc2 = interface(IInvokable) ['{532DCDD7-D66B-4D2C-924E-2F389D3E0A74}'] function Echo(data:string): string; stdcall; function SendFile(request:TFileDescription; attachment: TSOAPAttachment): TSendFileResponse; stdcall; end; What is interesting is if I only call the echo function Apache handles this without error every time. The webservice only returns an error after calling send File, but not every time. There are three outcomes to calling send file that I have observed: A normal result without an error (HTTP 200 OK). A Soap encoded exception with the message: 'Required white space was missing. Line: 11 <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML.' (HTTP 500 Internal Error). This also generates a message in the Apache error.log 'Premature end of script headers: MYISAPI.dll' A Soap encoded exception with the message: 'Access violation at address 01A53D57 in module MYISAPI.dll. Read of address 00000000.' (HTTP 200 OK). What I find interesting is that the second third outcomes still occur if I call echo after calling send file. Calling SendFile, SendFile, SendFile, SendFile results in outcomes 1, 2, 3, 1. Calling Echo, SendFile, SendFile, SendFile results in outcomes 1, 1, 2, 3. Calling SendFile, Echo, Echo, SendFile results in outcomes 1, 2, 3, 1. The pattern I am seing is that after a Successful SendFile, the next to requests result in outcomes 2 and 3 regardless of what those two requests are. My guess is that because Apache uses multiple threads to handle multiple requests that each request is getting handled in a slightly different way, and that the DLL may not have been initialized in the same way for each worker thread. I do not think the problem exists in my code as when I attach the debugger to httpd.exe it does recognize the exceptions but it says the exceptions are in non-delphi code meaning that they are happening before the code inside my DLL has a chance to execute. I suspect it may have something to do with the way I have apache configured. • Parsing GeoRSS Feed with jQuery

  I'm attempting to use the jQuery jFeed plugin for parsing an Atom, GeoRSS feed and I'm running into issues extracting the information I need. For example, I need to extract the summary element and I would like to render the contents in a div on my HTML page. Additionally, I'd like to extract the contents from the georss:point elements and pass them into Google Maps to render them as points on a map. The problem is that it seems jFeed is stripping out the GeoRSS-related information. For example, I can extract the title element without issues, but it seems it doesn't extract the summary or georss:point elements, at all. • RSA Encrypt / Decrypt Problem in .NET

  I'm having a problem with C# encrypting and decrypting using RSA. I have developed a web service that will be sent sensitive financial information and transactions. What I would like to be able to do is on the client side, Encrypt the certain fields using the clients RSA Private key, once it has reached my service it will decrypt with the clients public key. At the moment I keep getting a "The data to be decrypted exceeds the maximum for this modulus of 128 bytes." exception. I have not dealt much with C# RSA cryptography so any help would be greatly appreciated. • Overwrite archetypes in Maven

  Hello again! I'm having some trouble using Maven for my archetypes and I will need to overwrite some. I launch an instruction that does an archetype:generate in an archetype already existing directory. Is there a parameter that let's me overwrite existing archetypes? I have search the maven definitve guide but it states that the only parameters accepted are: -DgroupId -DartifactId -Dversion -DpackageName -DarchetypeGroupId -DarchetypeArtifactId -DarchetypeVersion -DinteractiveMode I could just search the directory and delete the files, but this proccess is going to be done automatically (so no human involved, no brains involved) and I wouldn't like he machine deleting things around.   Hi All, Im having a problem with C# encrypting and decrypting using RSA. I have developed a web service that will be sent sensitive financial information and transactions. What I would like to be able to do is on the client side, Encrypt the certain fields using the clients RSA Private key, once it has reached my service it will decrypt with the clients public key. At the moment I keep getting a "The data to be decrypted exceeds the maximum for this modulus of 128 bytes." exception. • What is "elegant" code?

  I see a lot of lip service and talk about the most "elegant" way to do this or that. I think if you spend enough time programming you begin to obtain a sort of intuitive feel for what it is we call "elegance". But I'm curious. Even if we can look at a bit of code, and say instinctively "That's elegant", or "That's messy", I wonder if any of us really understands what that means. Is there a precise definition for this "elegance" we keep referring to? If there is, what is it? Now, what I mean by a precise definition, is a series of statements which can be used to derive questions about a peice of code, or a program as a whole, and determine objectively, or as objectively as possible, whether that code is "elegant" or not. May I assert, that perhaps no such definition exists, and it's all just personal preference. In this case, I ask you a slightly different question: Is there a better word for "elegance", or a better set of attributes to use for judging code quality that is perhaps more objective than merely appealing to individual intuition and taste? Perhaps code quality is a matter of taste, and the answer to both of my questions is "no". But I can't help but feel that we could be doing better than just expressing wishy washy feelings about our code quality. For example, user interface design is something that to a broad range of people looks for all the world like a field of study that oughtta be 100% subjective matter of taste. But this is shockingly and brutally not the case, and there are in fact many objective measures that can be applied to a user interface to determine its quality. A series of tests could be written to give a definitive and repeatable score to user interface quality. (See GOMS, for instance). Now, okay. is Elegance simply "code quality" or is it something more? Is it something that can be measured? Or is it a matter of taste? Does our profession have room for taste? Maybe I'm asking the wrong questions altogether. Help me out here. Bonus Round If there is such a thing as elegance in code, and that concept is useful, do you think that justifies classifying the field of programming as an "Art" capital A, or merely a "craft". Or is it just an engineering field populated by a bunch of wishful thinking humans? Consider this question in the light of your thoughts about the elegance question. Please note that there is a distinction between code which is considered "art" in itself, and code that was written merely in the service of creating an artful program. When I ask this question, I ask if the code itself justifies calling programming an art.   From time to time I got the following exception message on GAE for my GAE/J app. I searched with Google, no relevant results were found. Does anyone know about this? • Help with 2-part question on ASP.NET MVC and Custom Security Design

  I'm using ASP.NET MVC and I am trying to separate a lot of my logic. Eventually, this application will be pretty big. It's basically a SaaS app that I need to allow for different kinds of clients to access. I have a two part question; the first deals with my general design and the second deals with how to utilize in ASP.NET MVC Primarily, there will initially be an ASP.NET MVC "client" front-end and there will be a set of web-services for third parties to interact with (perhaps mobile, etc). I realize I could have the ASP.NET MVC app interact just through the Web Service but I think that is unnecessary overhead. So, I am creating an API that will essentially be a DLL that the Web App and the Web Services will utilize. The API consists of the main set of business logic and Data Transfer Objects, etc. (So, this includes methods like CreateCustomer, EditProduct, etc for example) Also, my permissions requirements are a little complicated. I can't really use a straight Roles system as I need to have some fine-grained permissions (but all permissions are positive rights). So, I don't think I can really use the ASP.NET Roles/Membership system or if I can it seems like I'd be doing more work than rolling my own. I've used Membership before and for this one I think I'd rather roll my own. Both the Web App and Web Services will need to keep security as a concern. So, my design is kind of like this: Each method in the API will need to verify the security of the caller In the Web App, each "page" ("action" in MVC speak) will also check the user's permissions (So, don't present the user with the "Add Customer" button if the user does not have that right but also whenever the API receives AddCustomer(), check the security too) I think the Web Service really needs the checking in the DLL because it may not always be used in some kind of pre-authenticated context (like using Session/Cookies in a Web App); also having the security checks in the API means I don't really HAVE TO check it in other places if I'm on a mobile (say iPhone) and don't want to do all kinds of checking on the client However, in the Web App I think there will be some duplication of work since the Web App checks the user's security before presenting the user with options, which is ok, but I was thinking of a way to avoid this duplication by allowing the Web App to tell the API not check the security; while the Web Service would always want security to be verified Is this a good method? If not, what's better? If so, what's a good way of implementing this. I was thinking of doing this: In the API, I would have two functions for each action: // Here, "Credential" objects are just something I made up public void AddCustomer(string customerName, Credential credential , bool checkSecurity) { if(checkSecurity) { if(Has_Rights_To_Add_Customer(credential)) // made up for clarity { AddCustomer(customerName); } else // throw an exception or somehow present an error } else AddCustomer(customerName); } public void AddCustomer(string customerName) { // actual logic to add the customer into the DB or whatever // Would it be good for this method to verify that the caller is the Web App // through some method? } So, is this a good design or should I do something differently? My next question is that clearly it doesn't seem like I can really use [Authorize ...] for determining if a user has the permissions to do something. In fact, one action might depend on a variety of permissions and the View might hide or show certain options depending on the permission. What's the best way to do this? Should I have some kind of PermissionSet object that the user carries around throughout the Web App in Session or whatever and the MVC Action method would check if that user can use that Action and then the View will have some ViewData or whatever where it checks the various permissions to do Hide/Show?
