  • Can I have a virtual firewall forward packets to another virtual machine on the same server?

What I would like to do is setup a new machine with XenServer and install two virtual machines--one running IPCop and one running Linux with Apache. Then I would configure IPCop to have the external IP address and forward port 80 to an internal IP on the second virtual machine. Is this even possible?

  • Windows 8: Default start menu to open on second display

    I have two monitors and I want to keep it soley on my second monitor. I can do this manually by opening the start menu from the secondary monitor and by default next time I open the start menu it will open on the second monitor. Is there an option where I can force it to stay on the secondary display. If I restart or accidently open start from the primary monitor it changes the default start menu display monitor to my primary monitor.

    In implementing a GPO for Active Directory, a colleague has mentioned that they have implemented one which disallows 'similar' new password to be chosen - i.e. 'password1' cannot be changed to 'password2'. Seeing as AD stores all passwords as hashes, and a hash of the two options above would be markedly different and certainly not related - how can this be possible?

  • NAS device claims drive in a RAID is degraded but S.M.A.R.T. says it is fine

    I have a Synology DS213 with two 600GB drives in RAID 1. Last night the device reported that my second drive had become degraded and that I should replace it. When I ran a extensive S.M.A.R.T. test the results said that the drive is okay. How can I confirm that the drive is actually bad? Is there any case that the degraded drive is the good one and that it is actually the other drive that is bad?

    Hello, I have a list of date/timestamps, and I would like to plot these to a chart in Excel. What I'm looking for is a chart that shows "events per hour" or something similar. Can this be done easily if I just have one column of data (the list of timestamps)? I'm using excel 2007 and looking at two data sets. One is 56k events and the other 750, both over the span of a few days.

  • DNS and DHCP dies after ~2 days of use on ClearOS

    I'm using ClearOS (based on CentOS, so any info specific to it should apply here) as a gateway, DHCP, and DNS server. I had this server running perfectly for a month or two before replacing it with another server. However due DNS and DHCP failing 2 days in and a host of other performance issues (the box was a little underpowered), I changed back to the origional server. However 2 days in DHCP and DNS are failing again, and I'm out of idea's on why. In both cases to my knowledge no network or server changes occurred after installation. Right after installing (and at least a day in) DNS and DHCP was working just fine. However later (Day 2) I get a call saying their internet is down (translation: Nobody can get to websites because DNS is down) I've tried to fix the problem by checking if the dnsmasq is even running (it is), restarting the service, and restarting the server to no effect. I do have two internal servers that have static DHCP leases but one's lease must of expired as I can't connect to it anymore. I'm hesitant to do any dhcp testing on the last server as I'll not be able to connect to it anymore. Is there anything anyone can think of on why DNS and DHCP would fail 2 days in to running perfectly? More info: Running dnsmasq in debug mode. This is all that's displayed even when running nslookup quackwall.     I have two Bazaar (bzr) repositories that have very similar content. I'm trying to identify the differences and incrementally synchronize. My current strategy is to bzr add files to both repos and then use bzr merge to identify and resolve conflicts. The problem is that even if the file contents are identical it creates a conflict and a .moved file. What can I do to stop these conflicts or use a better workflow?

    I am looking at the following two drives for a RAID device, which will be streaming normal things but also a lot of video: Seagate Constellation ES.3 ST4000NM0033 - hard drive - 4 TB - SATA-600 TOSHIBA DT01ACA300 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Will the 128 MB cache on the Seagate have an effect in my described scenario, compared to the 64 MB on the Toshiba? If so, what sort of difference can I expect? I'm using a qnap device, if that matters.
