• LRU caches in C

  I need to cache a large (but variable) number of smallish (1 kilobyte to 10 megabytes) files in memory, for a C application (in a *nix environment). Since I don't want to eat all my memory, I'd like to set hard memory limit (say, 64 megabytes) and push files into a hash table with the file name as the key and dispose of the entries with the least use. What I believe I need is an LRU cache. Really, I'd rather not roll my own so if someone knows where I can find a workable library, please point the way? Failing that, can someone provide a simple example of an LRU cache in C? Related posts indicated that a hash table with a doubly-linked list, but I'm not even clear on how a doubly-linked list keeps LRU. Side note: I realize this is almost exactly the function of memcache, but it's not an option for me. I also took a look at the source hoping to enlighten myself on LRU caching, with no success.

• Is there a way in PHP to check if a directory is a symlink?

  The title says it all. I have symlinks to certain directories because the directories' names have non English characters that I got fed up trying to get apache's rewrite rules to match. There's a bounty on that question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2916194/trouble-with-utf-8-chars-apache2-rewrite-rulesif anyone wants to go for it, and from the looks of things a lot of people would like to see a general solution to this problem, but meanwhile I made a plain ascii symlink to each of these offending directories. Now the rewrite rules are back to just alpha and _ and - and my security concerns are less and it loads the resources I want. But I still need the actual target directory name for display purposes.   Hi there! I've got a variable which is formatted with random HTML code. I call it to {$text} and i truncate it. The value is for example: <div>Lorem <i>ipsum <b>dolor <span>sit </span>amet</b>, con</i> elit.</div> If i truncate the text's first ~30 letters, I'll get this: <div>Lorem <i>ipsum <b>dolor <span>sit The problem is, I can't close the elements. So, I need a script, which check the <*> elements in the code (where * could be anything), and if it dont have a close tag, close 'em. Please help me in this. Thanks.

I have a situation where I have a text file with 1100 lines of a search result with each line containing a file path and a stored procedure associated with that file. Each line has a structure like the one below: abc\def\ghi\***.cs(40): jkl=******.*****.******, "proc_pqrst", parms); Where abc\def\ghi\***.cs is file path of the file ***.cs. The stored procedure names begin with proc_. I have to extract the ***.cs and the corresponding stored procedure name begining with proc_ and write them to a .xls file. Can some body help me in writing the parsing program to do this? Also can I get a detailed outline on where should I write the code for c# and where should I compile it?   I've written a function to return the time_t value corresponding to midnight on a given day. When there is no midnight for a given day, it returns the earliest time available; that situation can occur, for example, when Egypt enters daylight-saving time. This year, the time change takes effect at midnight on the night of April 29, so the clock goes directly from 23:59 to 01:00. Now I'm writing unit tests for this function, and one of the tests should replicate the Egypt scenario. In Unix, I can accomplish it like this: putenv("TZ", "Egypt", true); tzset(); After doing that, further calls to localtime behave as if they're in Egypt instead of Minnesota, and my tests pass. Merely setting the environment variable doesn't have any effect on Windows, though. What can I do to make the unit test think it's somewhere else without affecting the rest of the programs running on the system?

• Is it worth caching a Dictionary for foreign key values in ASP.net?

  I have a Dictionary<int, string> cached (for 20 minutes) that has ~120 ID/Name pairs for a reference table. I iterate over this collection when populating dropdown lists and I'm pretty sure this is faster than querying the DB for the full list each time. My question is more about if it makes sense to use this cached dictionary when displaying records that have a foreign key into this reference table. Say this cached reference table is a EmployeeType table. If I were to query and display a list of employee names and types should I query for EmployeeName and EmployeeTypeID and use my cached dictionary to grab the EmployeeTypeIDs name as each record is displayed or is it faster to just have the DB grab the EmployeeName and JOIN to get the EmployeeType string bypassing the cached Dictionary all together. I know both will work but I'm interested in what will perform the fastest. Thanks for any help.

  Consider this model (simplified for this question): class SecretAgentName(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=100) aliases = ManyToManyField('self') I have three names, "James Bond", "007" and "Jason Bourne". "James Bond" and "007" are aliases of each other. This works exactly like I want it to, except for the fact that every instance can also be an alias of itself. This I want to prevent. So, there can be many SecretAgentNames, all can be aliases of each other as long as "James Bond" does not show up as an alias for "James Bond". Can I prevent this in the model definition? If not, can I prevent it anywhere else, preferably so that the Django Admin understands it?

  I have a table with one id (autonumber) field and 50 other fields. The table is normalized, these are 50 material properties etc. I want to copy a record from this table into the same table - only the autoincrement id will be different. The query I am using now is INSERT INTO tableName (field1,field2,....field50) SELECT field1,field2,....field50 from tableName WHERE autoid=1234; Note that I have to type in ALL the 50 field names, twice! Is there any way to shorten this query so I don't have to type all of them? Thanks.

• Compilers behave differently with a null parameter of a generic method

  The following code compiles perfectly with Eclipse, but fails to compile with javac: public class HowBizarre { public static <P extends Number, T extends P> void doIt(P value) { } public static void main(String[] args) { doIt(null); } } I simplified the code, so T is not used at all now. Still, I don't see a reason for the error. For some reason javac decides that T stands for Object, and then complains that Object does not conform to the bounds of T (which is true): HowBizarre.java:6: incompatible types; inferred type argument(s) java.lang.Number,java.lang.Object do not conform to bounds of type variable (s) P,T found : <P,T>void required: void doIt(null); ^ Note that if I replace the null parameter with a non-null value, it compiles fine. Which of the compilers behaves correctly and why? Is this a bug of one of them?

  Consider a simple result set from a mysql query. rs("description") and rs("description").Value should be considered as the same thing. However, depending on how you access them, you get different results (!!) Access rs("description") directly and you are returned a "Field" object. Or, more importantly, use it directly in a call, and you are returned a "Field" object. mydescription = rs("description") + " is the description" Assign it to another variable, and the Value of that object is assigned... mydescription = rs("description") the contents of "mydescription" is a string. Why this difference? At one point in the life of ASP they must have both worked exactly the same, so why have they changed, and how can I change it back?

A quesion about RGB color and its usefulness in a simple tiny php code: Imagine I have variable $colorA containning a valid six char color. say B1B100, a greenish natural color. Now when i instantiate an "Artikel" i want it to be of type "tArtikel", so what i tried in my code is: public tArtikel Artikel() { tArtikel artikel = new tArtikel(); } Which results in: "'Artikel' member names cannot be the same as their enclosing type". I had been using Phing to do deployments, and one of the things that was being triggered was an email to our tech support email address containing a list of all the commit messages between the last time code was deployed and the present SVN revision. I was doing something like this: read in a file from the root directory of the currently-deployed application that contains the SVN revision when the app was deployed place that value in a Phing variable insert that value into a command to send the SVN commit messages via email create a file in the root directory of the newly-deployed application that contains the current SVN revision I'd like to be able to add that information to the email that gets sent out by Hudson when a successful build goes out. Any pointers on how to accomplish this task in Hudson would be greatly appreciated.

  I'm running into a problem where a Server 2003 SP2 box has started crashing roughly once an hour, BSODing out with the message that fltmgr.sys is probably the cause. I ran dumpchk.exe on the memory.dmp file, indicating the same thing. Any thoughts on typical root causes? • CFGRID - replace data store or filter on more than one column

  ColdFusion 8 I have a cfgrid that that is based on a query. It is not bound to a cfc function because I want a scrolling grid, not a paged grid (you must supply the page number and page size if you use BIND).. I can figure out how to make it filter on one column by using the following code, but I really need to filter on three columns... grid.getDataSource().filter("OT_MILESTONE",t1); Adding more to the filter string does not do the trick...it ignores anything more than the first pair of values.. so..I thought if I called a function that passes the three values and returned the query results to me, I could replace the Data Store for the grid..but I cannot figure out the syntax to get it to replace. The returned variable for the query has the following format: {"COLUMNS":["SEQ_KEY","ID","OT_MILESTONE"],"DATA":[[63677,"x","y"]]} Any ideas?

• Malloc to a CGPoint Pointer throwing EXC_BAD_ACCESS when accessing

  I am trying to use a snippet of code from a Apple programming guide, and I am getting a EXC_BAD_ACCESS when trying to pass a pointer to a function, right after doing a malloc. (For Reference: iPhone Application Programming Guide: Event Handling - Listing 3-6) The code in question is really simple: CFMutableDictionaryRef touchBeginPoints; UITouch *touch; .... CGPoint *point = (CGPoint *)CFDictionaryGetValue(touchBeginPoints, touch); if (point == NULL) { point = (CGPoint *)malloc(sizeof(CGPoint)); CFDictionarySetValue(touchBeginPoints, touch, point); } Now when the program goes into the if statement it assigns the 'output' of malloc into the point variable/pointer. Then when it tries to pass point into the CFDictionarySetValue function it crashes the application with: Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS”. Someone suggested not doing the malloc and pass the point var/pointer as: &point, however that still gave me a EXC_BAD_ACCESS. What I am (and it looks like Apple) doing wrong??? Thanks in advance.
