• Linq to sql Incorrect varchar length

  I have a table with a nullable varchar(50) column in it. When I am updating the value through linq to sql and trace the call in profiler it is defining the parameter as varchar(36). This is obviously causing some minor issues when we are trying to insert data that is between 37 and 50 characters long. I have tried removing the table and re-adding it to the design surface but the same thing happens. I also tried removing that property and adding it manually, same issue. When I look at the designer.cs code it shows the attribute properly: [Column(Storage="_Name", DbType="VarChar(50)")] I am out of ideas, anybody seen this before? Every other column is correct.

• Scrapy Not Returning Additonal Info from Scraped Link in Item via Request Callback

  Basically the code below scrapes the first 5 items of a table. One of the fields is another href and clicking on that href provides more info which I want to collect and add to the original item. So parse is supposed to pass the semi populated item to parse_next_page which then scrapes the next bit and should return the completed item back to parse Running the code below only returns the info collected in parse If I change the return items to return request I get a completed item with all 3 "things" but I only get 1 of the rows, not all 5. • Android Apps: What is the recommended targetSdk for broadest appeal?

  I have an Android app that only needs internet access and would like to target API level 3 (1.5) to reach the broadest handset base. However, it appears that targeting API level 3 implicitly requires two additional permissions that are visible to users: modify sd card, and read phone state. See: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1747178/android-permissions-phone-calls-read-phone-state-and-identity) So the connundrum, do I target API level 4 and turn away users running 1.5, or do I target API level 3 and turn away users who are upset that my app is requesting so many permissions that it shouldn't need? What is the smartest thing to do here? Are there really a lot of users still limited to API level 3? I appreciate any wisdom offered! Thanks!

• JQuery-tmpl Template Switching Not working.

  I'm trying to implement "more/less" functionality using the official jquery-tmpl plugin. I've looked at the examples, but I cannot seem to get the functionality to work in my own implementation. When I click on one of my "More" buttons, I seem to get an error thrown of: Uncaught TypeError: Property 'tmpl' of object #<an Object> is not a function This is my implementation here From what I can tell, the example I'm trying to replace is doing the following: Render the "Master" template On-click: Find the corresponding template object (tmplItem) to the clicked element. Pass in reference to a new template. Call the update function to re-render. Have I understood the documentation wrong? From what I can tell I'm doing the same thing as the example on the official documentation.

• Small gaps in section headers with custom headers - iPhone / Objective-C

  Hi there! Since I wanted to use the standard section header with a different font size, I just made custom section headers by using an UIImageView with the standard section header as an image. It looks fine at first, but when I scroll the table, there are small gaps below and above the section headers: Since I am not allowed to post images or more than one hyperlink yet, I will have to provide you with one link to those images: Click me! Picture: How it looks like without touching anything Picture: Dragging the table down Picture: Dragging/Scrolling the table up So as you can hopefully see, there is a small empty gap under (2nd pic) and above (3rd pic) the section header. Another thing to mention is, that the standard behaviour of non-custom section headers is, that they don't become transparent when I drag the table down (making the table offset < 0.0). Is there a way to make custom section headers mimic the same behaviour without those annoying gaps? Greetings, Zhar

• Recompilation problem with groovlets (Groovy)

  I'm new to Groovy, really like it, but found a compilation problem. I'm using Jetty as a webserver, which is serving .groovy files (groovlets) Consider two files: Test1.groovy which contains:    println new Test2().property Test2.groovy which contains:   public class Test2 {    String property = "print this"  } When calling /Test1.groovy in a browser it prints "print this". But when I change the property in something else, it still prints "print this", it won't recompile. The only thing I can do is restart jetty. Note that when all the code is in one file, recompilation does work. Is there a workaround for this..? Thanks, Bas.

• windows C system call with spaces in command

  I cannot make system calls with spaces in the names and parameters. For example: system("c:\program files\something\example.exe c:\my files\example.txt"); I have tried escaping in every way I know how, and NOTHING works. I have tried: system("\"c:\program files\something\example.exe\" \"c:\my files\example.txt\""); and system("c:\program^ files\something\example.exe c:\my^ files\example.txt"); Neither work. I still get 'c:\program' is not a recongnised internal or external command This is really driving me mad... I need to call and pass parameters that have spaces in them. I cannot use the short notation for reasons I won't go into. I have tried with ' quotes instead of " quotes, still doesn't work. I have tried putting quotes around the whole thing and quotes around the spaces and that doesn't work. Does anyone know how to do it properly?

• Safari does not show images, but FireFox does

  I have a website that I am working on: http://keramed.com in FireFox on my Mac the image on the main page shows up. (The Endoshield DSEK Graft Injector) Now check in Safari and the image does not show up. I have tried taking the original .PSD and saving it as a .jpg or .png and it does not matter. I have commented out all stylesheets and this still does not solve it. The rest of my images are showing up, just not thing one. I just dont understand I am stumped. EDIT: Photoshop says it is an RGB 8-bit image.

• Cannot find code completion and suggestions in Aptana 2.0

  Greetings, I recently started using Aptana 1.5 to work on a site via FTP, developing pages in .php format with a mixture of HTML, CSS, jQuery, and -- naturally -- PHP. I develop a page with all of these elements together to save time, then separate them. One thing that I really liked about Aptana 1.5 was that it completed code (brackets, parentheses, etc) and suggested things as I typed. I upgraded to 2.0 today and cannot figure out for the life of me how to bring back all of these capabilities -- or remember if I had to do anything in 1.5 to get them. Here is a picture of what I am looking for Notice the suggestion for margin: and the "HTML, Js, CSS" up top. Any help with getting this to work in 2.0 would be greatly appreciated. Ever since installing 2.0, 1.5 has been throwing error messages and I can't seem to get my FTP settings to stay locked in.

• Replace a word in an XML file through StreamReader in XNA?

  Okay, so this is sort of a hack...but it may have to be. I'm writing an app in XNA, which from my research into this problem apparently doesn't support XML version 1.1. I'm reading in the contents of an ePub document, and one of the newer books contains its content directory as a version 1.1 XML document. This causes my program to crash. However, the structure is the same as the rest, the only thing that should be keeping it from working is the hard-coded "1.0" in the XmlDocument class. Is it possible that I could read in the file from the stream, see if it contains: <?xml version="1.1" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?> and simply replace it with "1.0"? Then I could pull it in as an XmlDocument. I'm not doing any writing to the file, or any complex structural reading, just looking for a few specific nodes, and pulling in the values, so I don't know what the ramifications of this would be.

  Hey all. I'm working on an application that was originally intended for HTML, but I've recently concluded that the best thing to do for my purposes is to do it in Flash instead. One of the big things I need is to be able to bring in movieclips from external files and add them to my main movie at runtime (dynamic number of elements, skinning, etc.) Don't need full-on code for this, but I could use some assistance in tracking down the resources to learn how to do these things successfully. Tutorials, best practices… The usual suspects. I've been using Flash for a while now, and used to do this pretty easily in AS2, but I've had some hiccups using classes and addchild in an earlier attempt, so any help would be much appreciated.   Hi, We are building a flash website with cms at the back end, and we are allowing admin to put anchors inside a content. Later we created a smaller version of the whole content to display just a small part and then [read more] button. Which add a new layer on top of every thing acting like a popup and it is populated with complete content. Now we would like to scroll that text inside popup to that portion which [read more] button was clicked. The most common example inside HTMl is go to top link in footer on most of the sites which move the whole document to top. Happy codding.

• grails date from params in controller

  y is it so hard to extract the date from the view via the params in a grails controller? i don't want to extract the date by hand like this: instance.dateX = parseDate(params["dateX_value"])//parseDate is from my helper class i just want to use instance.properties = params you know :) in the model the type is java.util.Date and in the params is all the information (dateX_month, dateX_day, ...) i searched on the net and found nothing on this :( i hoped that grails 1.3.0 could help but still the same thing. i can't and will not belief that extracting the date by hand is nessesary!

• Logging into oracle db as a global user

  We are trying to shape up an old, 2 tier, Delphi based application. It originally uses database authentication, we'd like to transform the db user accounts to global users, so an OID server could perform the authentication instead of the database. The Delphi program can no longer log into the database if the account is a global user. I'm trying to understand the login protocol, so far without results. Similar thing happens with SQLDeveloper, I can't connect as a global user. SQLPlus however works with both kinds of users. We checked the information flow with Wireshark. When the dbserver asks back for a password, the SQLPlus sends it, while the SQLDeveloper doesn't send a password when attempting to connect as a global user. The client sends the application name too in the login request. Is it possible that we have to store the client app name in the LDAP itself?

• Oracle transaction read-consistency ?

  I have problem understanding read consistency in db(oracle). Suppose I am manger of a bank . A customer has got lock (which I dont know) and is doing some updation. Now after he has got lock I am viewing account info of the same customer and try to do some thing on it.But because of read consistency I will see data as it existed before customer got the lock. So will not that affect inputs I am getting and the decisions that I am gonna make during that period?

  I'd like to know what people consider best practice for securing the Admin sections of websites, specifically from an authentication/access point of view. Of course there are obvious things, such as using SSL and logging all access, but I'm wondering just where above these basic steps people consider the bar to be set. For example: Are you just relying on the same authentication mechanism that you use for normal users? If not, what? Are you running the Admin section in the same 'application domain'? What steps do you take to make the admin section undiscovered? (or do you reject the while 'obscurity' thing)

• How to read a file byte by byte in Python and how to print a bytelist as a binary?

  Hi, I'm trying to read a file byte by byte, but I'm not sure how to do that. I'm trying to do it like that: file = open(filename, 'rb') while 1: byte = file.read(8) # Do something... So does that make the variable byte to contain 8 next bits at the beginning of every loop? It doesn't matter what those bytes really are. The only thing that matters is that I need to read a file in 8-bit stacks. EDIT: Also I collect those bytes in a list and I would like to print them so that they don't print out as ASCII characters, but as raw bytes i.e. when I print that bytelist it gives the result as ['10010101', '00011100', .... ]

• ReSharper Unit Test Runner: Support for Deployment Items

  I like the Unit test runner in ReSharper 4.5, and would like to use it with my MSTest tests, but one thing annoys me: In some of our solutions, we have set up some Deployment Items in the .testrunconfig file. The ReSharper Unit Test runner does not seem to respect this, so I get errors when trying to run the unit tests from ReSharper. Is there any workraound for this ? Update: citizenmatt's answer was correct, the option to use a .testrunconfig with ReSharper exists in the Options dialog of ReSharper. You have to select the unit test provider on the list, then the controls to do that appears. (That was not obvious or discoverable, at least not for me ;-)

  In a web2py view, how do I comment out server-side code? In ASP.NET, I can surround any HTML or code tags with <%-- and --% and that block will not be compiled or sent to the client. Velocity does the same thing with #* and *#. Is there an equivalent in web2py? • iphone navigation tutorial with simple form

  Hi All, I'm looking to create quite a basic app with a very simple navigation system but each of the tutorials I've come across so far go into too much depth or just involve lots of different form elements. I want to keep it as straight forward and simple as I can. If anyone knows of any tutorials that can show me how to create a root view with say 5 or 6 sub views each displaying a form for collecting different types of data I would be very grateful. • What's all the hype over objectsets in Entity Framework 4?

  I am an intermediate user of EF in .net 3.5 and have recently moved to working with .net 4. One thing i keep coming across when reading various tutorials is the use of ObjectSets instead of ObjectQuerys and that they are a great new feature. What is so great about them? Reading this MSDN article titled "Working with ObjectSet (Entity Framework)" It shows two examples on how to add a Product.. one for 3.5 and another for 4.0. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee473442.aspx Through my lack of knowledge I am possibly bringing up a seperate point here, but i never added a Product like this: //In .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, use the following code: using (AdventureWorksEntities context = new AdventureWorksEntities()) { // Add the new object to the context. context.AddObject("Products", newProduct); } I would have just used context.AddToProducts(newProduct); Please enlighten me. • Should I use DTOs as my data models in MVVM?

  I'm currently working on what will be my first real foray into using MVVM and have been reading various articles on how best to implement it. My current thoughts are to use my data models effectively as data transfer objects, make them serializable and have them exist on both the client and server sides. It seems like a logical step given that both object types are really just collections of property getters and setters and another layer in between seems like complete overkill. Obviously there would be issues with INotifyPropertyChanged not working correctly on the server side as there is no ViewModel to which to communicate, but as long as we are careful about constructing our proper domain model objects from data models in the service layer and not dealing the the data models on the server side I don't think it should be a big issue. I haven't found too much info about this approach in my reading, so I would like to know if this is a pretty standard thing, is this just assumed to be the de facto way of doing MVVM in a multi-tier environment? If I've got completely the wrong idea about things then thoughts on other approaches would be appreciated too.

• PHP Linefeeds (\n) Not Working

  For some reason I can't use \n to create a linefeed when outputting to a file with PHP. It just writes "\n" to the file. I've tried using "\\n" as well, where it just writes "\n" (as expected). But I can't for the life of me figure out why adding \n to my strings isn't creating new lines. I've also tried \r\n but it just appends "\r\n" to the line in the file. Example: error_log('test\n', 3, 'error.log'); error_log('test2\n', 3, 'error.log'); Outputs: test\ntest2\n Using MAMP on OSX in case that matters (some sort of PHP config thing maybe?). Any suggestions?

  i have some parsed data in two files. i need to send these to a webserver of a website. i also need to be logged into the webserver first. i am new to this web interaction thing. i just need to know how might i go about doing this. i am learning the libcurl library so i guess in can send standard HTTP POST messages. i will make a simple webserver to test it myself. can anyone tell me what kind of interaction is needed. by that i mean how do i send the username and password information, know that i am logged in and then be send the files. may be some examples of Form Posts which i believe is what i shud be doing right now.

• CPU/GPU Monitering. (Tempature, current speed, etc) in C#

  Im looking for a way to moniter system statistics, here are my main points of interest: CPU Tempature CPU speed, (Cycles per second) CPU Load (Idle percent) GPU Tempature Some other points of interest: Memory useage Network Load (Traffic Up/Down) My ultimate goal is to write an application that can be used for easily running in the backround, and allow setting many events fr certain actions, for instance When processer temp gets to 56C -> Do _Blank_ etc. So this leaves me two main points. Is there a framework already out there for this sort of thing? If No to #1, How can i go about doing this?
