• Is there a nice XSL stylesheet for client-side DocBook rendering?

  I want the DocBook documents in my SVN repository to look nice if someone looks at them in a web browser. I've started to write a CSS stylesheet, but I think that it will have significant limitations -- particularly ones regarding hyperlinks. There is a large body of DocBook XSL stylesheets at the DocBook site , but they don't seem to be appropriate for browser rendering. I don't want to generate static documents and put them into SVN. I want them to be basically readable for other developers without much hassle. I could write my own browser-appropriate XSL stylesheet to convert DocBook to HTML, but it seems like someone else must have already done this. I just don't know where to find it.

• How do you control what your C compiler Optimizes?

  I am writing the firmware for an embedded device in C using the Silicon Labs IDE and the SDCC compiler. The device architecture is based on the 8051 family. The function in question is shown below. The function is used to set the ports on my MCU to drive a stepper motor. It gets called in by an interrupt handler. The big switch statement just sets the ports to the proper value for the next motor step. The bottom part of the function looks at an input from a hall effect sensor and a number of steps moved in order to detect if the motor has stalled. The problem is, for some reason the second IF statement that looks like this if (StallDetector > (GapSize + 20)) { HandleStallEvent(); } always seems to get optimized out. If I try to put a breakpoint at the HandleStallEvent() call the IDE gives me a message saying "No Address Correlation to this line number". I am not really good enough at reading assembly to tell what it is doing but I have pasted a snippet from the asm output below. Maybe it's just a dumb IDE!

• PHP anonymous functions scope question

  Hi, I'm trying to sort an array of objects by a common property, however I cannot get my $property parameter to register in the inner function (I can use it in the outer one OK). The way I read the documentation, it sounded like the parameter would be available, have I misunderstood something? • problem in adding data to an array in Objective-C!!!

  I am grappling with adding an NSData object to a NSMutable array. • Processing files with C# in folders whose names contain spaces

  There are plenty of C# samples that show how to manipulate files and directories but they inevitably use folder paths that contain no spaces. In the real world I need to be able to process files in folders with names that contain spaces. I have written the code below which shows how I have solved the problem. • How to set source path of image within html pages to show in webbrowser control

  Hi in my application there is web browser control to show some static html pages. The pages are displayed properly. but images are not displayed.. I tried with changing src-path but no success. my htmlpages folder is located at bin folder. And i am assigning it as. FileStream source = new FileStream(@"..\HtmlPages\supportHtml.html", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); if i open html files in browser, the images are displayed properly.. So, What is the correct path for images..?? If i set full path to src attribute of <img> tag..it works. but i think its not a proper way. :( EDIT: If i assign d:\myapp\bin\HtmlPages\support.gif then image is displayed. And if i assign "..\HtmlPages\support.gif" or "support.gif" image is not shown.

• Appengine not liking my .jspx files

  I have a little app that runs fine on local dev appengine, but appengine itself is not processing my .jspx files. The jspx files are in WEB-INF so they should not be excluded by appengine (as a static resource) I am using Apache Tiles to define my views.   Using Microsoft Spy++, I can see that the following windows that belong to a process: Process XYZ window handles, displayed in tree form just like Spy++ gives me: A B C D E F G H I J K I can get the process, and the MainWindowHandle property points to the handle for window F. If I enumerate the child windows using I can get a list of window handles for G through K, but I can't figure out how to find the window handles for A through D. How can I enumerate windows that are not children of the handle specified by MainWindowHandle of the Process object? • Need to make sure value is within 0-255

  This is probably really easy, but I'm lost on how to "make sure" it is in this range.. So basically we have class Color and many functions to implement from it. this function I need is: Effects: corrects a color value to be within 0-255 inclusive. If value is outside this range, adjusts to either 0 or 255, whichever is closer. • FxCop giving a warning on private constructor CA1823 and CA1053

  I have a class that looks like the following: Public Class Utilities Public Shared Function blah(userCode As String) As String 'doing some stuff End Function End Class I'm running FxCop 10 on it and it says: "Because type 'Utilities' contains only 'static' ( 'Shared' in Visual Basic) members, add a default private constructor to prevent the compiler from adding a default public constructor." Ok, you're right Mr. FxCop, I'll add a private constructor: Private Utilities() Now I'm having: "It appears that field 'Utilities.Utilities' is never used or is only ever assigned to. Use this field or remove it." Any ideas of what should I do to get rid of both warnings?

• ApiChange Is Released!

  I have been working on little tool to simplify my life and perhaps yours as developer as well. It is basically a command line tool that allows you to execute queries on your compiled .NET code base. The main purpose is to find out how big the impact of an api change would be if you changed this or that.  Now you can do high level operations like Diff public types for breaking changes. Who uses a method? Who uses a type? Who uses implements an interface? Who references me? What format has the binary  (32/64, Managed C++, Pure IL, Unmanaged)? Search for all event subscribers and unsubscribers. A unique feature is to check for event subscription imbalances. Forgotten event subscriptions are the 90% cause of managed memory leaks. It is done at a per class level. If one class does subscribe to one event more often than it does unsubscribe it is treated as possible event subscription imbalance. Another unique ability is to search for users of string literals which allows you to track users of a string constant which is not possible otherwise. For incremental builds the ShowRebuildTargets command can be used to identify the dependant targets that need a rebuild after you did compile one assembly. It has some heuristics in place to determine the impact of breaking changes and finds out which targets need to be recompiled as well. It has a ton of other features and a an API to access these things programmatically so you can build upon these simple queries create even better tools. Perhaps we get a Visual Studio plug in? You can download it from CodePlex here. It works via XCopy deployment. Simply let it run and check the command line help out. The best feature in my opinion is that the output of nearly all commands can be piped to Excel for further analysis. Since it does read also the pdbs it can show you the source file name and line number as well for all matches. The following picture shows the output of a –WhousesType query. The following command checks where type from BaseLibraryV1.dll are used inside DependantLibV1.dll. All matches are printed out with the reason and matching item along with file and line number. There is even a hyper link to the match which will open Visual Studio. ApiChange -whousestype "*" BaseLibraryV1.dll -in DependantLibV1.dll –excel The "*” is the actual query which means all types. The syntax is the same like in C# just that placeholders are allowed ;-). More info's can be found at the Codeplex Documentation.     The tool was developed in a TDD style manner which means that it is heavily tested and already used by a quite large user base inside the company I do work for. Luckily for you I got the permission to make it public so you take advantage of it. It is fully instrumented with tracing. If you find bugs simply add the –trace command line switch to find out what is failing and send me the output. How is it done? Your first guess might be that it uses reflection. Wrong. It is based on Mono Cecil a free IL parser with a fantastic API to access all internals of a managed assembly. The speed is awesome and to make it even faster I did make the tool heavily multi threaded. The query above did execute in 1.8s with the Excel output. On a rather slow machine I can analyze over 1500 assemblies in less than 40s with a very low memory consumption. The true power of Mono Cecil is that I can load an assembly like any other data file. I have no problems unloading a file but if I would have used reflection I would need to unload a whole AppDomain just to get rid of one assembly in my memory. Just to give you a glimpse how ApiChange.Api.dll can be used I show you one of the unit tests:           public void Can_Find_GenericMethodInvocations_With_Type_Parameters()         { // 1. Without this fantastic piece of code it would have been much much harder. There are other options around like the Common Compiler Infrastructure  Metadata Api which should do the same thing but it was not a real option since the Microsoft reader did fail on even simple assemblies (at least in September 2009 this was the case). Besides this I found the CCI Apis much harder to use. The only real competitor was Reflector which does support many things but does not let me access his cool high level analyze commands. So I decided to dig into the IL specs and as a result you can query your compiled binaries from the command line or programmatically. The best thing is you try it out for yourself and give me some feedback what you miss. • How can I capture multiple matches from the same Perl regex?

  I'm trying to parse a single string and get multiple chunks of data out from the same string with the same regex conditions. I'm parsing a single HTML doc that is static (For an undisclosed reason, I can't use an HTML parser to do the job.) I have an expression that looks like: $string =~ /\<img\ssrc\="(.*)"/; and I want to get the value of $1. However, in the one string, there are many img tags like this, so I need something like an array returned (@1?) is this possible?

• cant populate cells with an array when i have loaded a second UITableViewController

• Watching a variable for changes without polling.

  I'm using a framework called Processing which is basically a Java applet. It has the ability to do key events because Applet can. You can also roll your own callbacks of sorts into the parent. I'm not doing that right now and maybe that's the solution. For now, I'm looking for a more POJO solution. So I wrote some examples to illustrate my question. Please ignore using key events on the command line (console). Certainly this would be a very clean solution but it's not possible on the command line and my actual app isn't a command line app. In fact, a key event would be a good solution for me but I'm trying to understand events and polling beyond just keyboard specific problems. Both these examples flip a boolean. When the boolean flips, I want to fire something once. I could wrap the boolean in an Object so if the Object changes, I could fire an event too. I can maybe throttle it back with a sleep or compare the elapsed time since last update but this is not event driven. It's just less polling. So how can I do this smarter? How can I watch a POJO for changes without polling? In C# there seems to be something interesting called properties.   I have a javascript that is calling a function addData(param1,param2,param3,param4) which is calling addClip at the end And I need to pass those to a backing bean. <a4j:form> <a4j:jsFunction name="addClip" action="#{backingBean.goGo}"> <a4j:actionparam name="param1" assignTo="#{backingBean.param1}"/> </a4j:jsFunction> </a4j:form> But I can't seem to pass any values to the backingbean. I've even tried setting a static value for the actionparam. But when I try to do a Systemout on the setParam1 method it only prints out null. Have I missed anything important?
