• Crash when checking BOF property of pessimistic locked ADO recordset

  Bit of an odd one for you: I've got two connections to a database, on one I've opened a _RecordsetPtr with a pessimistic lock. I can no longer send an UPDATE command on the other connection. I can send a SELECT command on the second connection and data is returned. If I use a read only lock then there are no problems however when I use a pessimistic lock on the second connection as well I can check the State == adStateOpen but the program hangs when I test the BOF property! If I don't test the BOF property and try to call moveNext on the second connection the software hangs If I do neither of these I am able to access the data via the second connection but trying to access the data from the first connection causes the software to hang. Any one seen anything similar as I'm a bit stuck? EDIT : it wasn't hanging, someone had put a 30 minute timeout on the connection and I wasn't waiting that long while testing...

• Adding a Jar to ext and using it in Eclipse

  I am providing a client with a lab station image for a school program. There is a library that I'd like to directly add to the JRE so that students can use the library without needing to fiddle with adding the classpath. As this is a basic after school program, the goal is to just get students into programming with as little overhead additions as possible. At this point, I have the lib put into the jre/lib/ext and Eclipse is able to find it, however it will not allow access to any of the classes. I see it in the JRE System Library and the classes and packages are showing up there but when I go to use it, I am getting an "Access restriction" error. When I remove the JRE System Library then add it back in, everything works swimmingly. The library is accessible exactly as intended. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

• Pass a parameter from one jsp to another using form.action

  I have an ID that I need in the next jsp once the user click a button. I am trying to do the following: FirstJSP.jsp: function getSecond() { var frm = document.getElementById("frm"); frm.action = "**second.jsp?id=myId;"** frm.submit(); } ... form id="frm" ..... input type="button" value="Next" onclick="getSecond()"/ ...... This code takes me to my second page, but if I tried to access the id, it gives me an error since the id is null. I access the id in the second page by: final Long passedId = Long.parseLong(request.getParameter("id")); I think I am not passing the parameter correctly, but I don't know how to do it. Any ideas? • Change web service url for a suds client on runtime (keeping the wsdl)

  Hi. First of all, my question is similar to this one But it's a little bit different. What we have is a series of environments, with the same set of services. For some environments (the local ones) we can get access to the wsdl, and thus generating the suds client. For external environment, we cannot access the wsdl. But being the same, I was hoping I can change just the URL without regenerating the client. I've tried cloning the client, but it doesn't work.

In java when I try to update a record. the netBeans IDE gives me the error of " data type missmatch in criteria expression". But when I changed the ID number that was not in the table already it works well. The code is below. • Separating data from the UI code with Linq to SQL entities

  If it's important to keep data access 'away' from business and presentation layers, what alternatives or approaches can I take so that my LINQ to SQL entities can stay in the data access layer? So far I seem to be simply duplicating the classes produced by sqlmetal, and passing those object around instead simply to keep the two layers appart. For example, I have a table in my DB called Books. If a user is creating a new book via the UI, the Book class generated by sqlmetal seems like a perfect fit although I'm tightly coupling my design by doing so.

• Is it possible to have a .NET route that maps to the same place as a directory?

  I'm building a CMS using WebForms on .NET 4.0 and have the following route that allows URLs like www.mysite.com/about to be mapped to the Page.aspx page, which looks up the dynamic content. routes.MapPageRoute("page", "{name}", "~/Page.aspx"); The problem is that I have a couple of folders in my project that are interfering with possible URLs. For example, I have a folder called "blog" where I store pages related to handling blog functionality, but if someone creates a page for their site called "blog" then navigating to www.mysite.com/blog gets the following error: 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. Other similar URLs route correctly, but I think because .NET is identifying /blog as a physical location on the server it is denying directory access. Is there a way to tell IIS / .NET to only look for physical files instead of files and folders?

• Not enough storage is available to complete this operation - Program or Storage memory?

  I've been given a Windows Mobile app written in .Net CF 3.5 to fix, and one of the problems is to do with storage. The message 'Not enough storage is available to complete this operation' has appeared a few times - it's logged in the SQL CE database, and always happens during data access (but not the same bit of data access). The thing I'm slightly confused about is whether this refers to Program Memory (e.g. RAM) or Storage Memory (e..g permanent storage). It would appear to be storage memory, but the devices seem to have plenty free. While there are some OutOfMemoryExceptions, these appear totally unrelated to this problem (in that that happen at a different time due to an image-related issue). We're using SQL CE 3.5 with a single connection, which is stored along with the app on the device (as opposed to the storage card). The device is a Motorola MC75 running Windows Mobile 6.1. Any thoughts?

  Say you have a large legacy ColdFusion on top of Java on Windows application. File access is done both via java.io.File and by CFFILE (which in turn also uses java.io.File), but not centralised in any way into a single file access library. Further, say you have file paths both hard-coded in the code, and also in a database. In other words, assume the file paths themselves cannot change. They could be either local or remote Windows file paths: c:\temp\file.txt \\server\share\file.txt Is there a way to run this application on Linux with minimal code changes? I'm looking for creative solutions that do not involve touching the legacy code. Some ideas: Run it on WINE. This actually works, because WINE will translate the local paths, and has a samba client for the remote paths. Is there a way to override java.io.File to perform the file path translation with custom code? In this case, I would translate the remote paths to a mount point.

  I am using an instance of a private class as the state object supplied to a stream.BeginRead operation. (The class is private to my main stream reading/writing class.) public class MainClass { // ... private class ResponseState { public IResponse response; public Stream stream; public byte[] buffer = new byte[1024]; } } Access to the class is via the fields directly. Should I really be providing access to the class via properties in this case, even though it is only to be used for holding state? Interested to know what others do.

• Reference variable to an object instantiated/initialized in another class in Java

  The reason I'm asking is because I'm getting NullPointerException. I now this is very easy but I'm pretty new programming and find this a bit confusing. So say I have initialized an object in a class and want to access that same object from another class. Like now for instance I'm working on a small Chess game, in my model Game class I have an instance of Board, an object. Board, in turn, has an array of Squares. Square[][]. Game has board, board has Square[][]. Now if I want to access the Square[][] through the object board (in Game) of type Board. Do I just declare a variable with the same name and type or do I have to initialize it again? Board board OR Board board = new Board(); Note, I have already initialized board in the class Game so if I do it again, won't they be two totally different Board objects?

• Query useing two databases in SQL Report Builder

  I am new to SQL Server Report Builder 2.0 and I need to compare two different databases in one query. Basically I need to check if values from one database table exist in a different database's table. I know I can add multiple Datasources to my report and access each one with Subreports, but each DataSet that I create can only have one query in it. So how can I go about using one query to access two databases? Or if there is another way to somehow join my results from multiple DataSets, that would work too. Also, the databases are on the same server.

• Lighttpd + fastcgi + python (for django) slow on first request

  I'm having a problem with a django website I host with lighttpd + fastcgi. It works great but it seems that the first request always takes up to 3seconds. Subsequent requests are much faster (<1s). I activated access logs in lighttpd in order to track the issue. But I'm kind of stuck. I would like to redefine 'Visit' in B, but B need to access the 'Visit' function of each A (and all subclass to). I have something like that, but it tell me that B cannot access the protected member of A! One application in .asp and second application in java. we want to build interface for universal authentication, so that one can access the other application once signed into one application. Both applications are using SQL database, but one is written in .ASP hosted on Windows server while the other is in JAVA hosted on a Linux server. The applications are currently resided on two different servers. requirements: 1)The end user are most likely to access the applications through .ASP first, then reach the 2nd application more like "back office" management system. 2)he JAVA application currently works well with IE web browser, but not very smooth with other browsers such as Firefox.   It would seem there is precious little documentation on programming against a TFS 2010 instance. What bits I have found, have next to nothing in the case of documentation beyond barebones listing of client access classes and their members, most likely autogenerated from the code comments. As I'm interested in building a silverlight client against TFS, I will need access to server side API (ideally the silverlight app will talk to my server (mainly for work items) and my server will in turn talk to the TFS server for the goods. Where is the doumentation (if any) for this kind of TFS integration?

  Hi, I'm looking for some advice on the best approach to synchronising access to properties of an object in C++. The application has an internal cache of objects which have 10 properties. These objects are to be requested in sets which can then have their properties modified and be re-saved. They can be accessed by 2-4 threads at any given time but access is not intense so my options are: Lock the property accessors for each object using a critical section. This means lots of critical sections - one for each object. Return copies of the objects when requested and have an update function which locks a single critical section to update the object properties when appropriate. I think option 2 seems the most efficient but I just want to see if I'm missing a hidden 3rd option which would be more appropriate. Thanks, J

• How to order my objects in a C++ class correctly

  Hello, I have been coding regurlarly in C++ in the past months. I am getting used to it step by step... but there are things that confuse me about formatting. I know there is a lot of legacy from C that I supousee mixes with C++. This time I have doubts about how to order properly my members and functions within in a class. Also considering their access modifiers. How is the convention in this? Until know I am doing everything "public" and writing first constructor of class, then destructor, next members and finally functions. It this correct? What happens when introducing "private" and "protected" access modifiers or "virtual" functions? From the documents I have look in the Internet there is different ways of doing things. But my questions aims to get the knowledge from a community that develops in C++ that I want to blend into. ;-) Thanks a lot!!!
