• Downloading image from server without file extension (NSData to UIImage)

  From my server I'm pulling down a url that is supposed to simply be a profile image. The relevant code for pulling down the image from the urls is this: NSString *urlString = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%@",kBaseURL,profile_image_url]; profilePic = [UIImage imageWithData:[NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:urlString]]]; My url is in the format (note no file extension on the end since its dynamically rendered) localhost:8000/people/1/profile_image If I load the url in my browser the image displays; however the code above for pulling down the UIImage does not work. I've verified that the code does pull an image from a random site on the interwebs. Any thoughts on why this is happening?

• C#: Resource file refactoring

  Does anyone know of a good tool for refactoring resources in a visual studio 2008 solution? We have a number of resource files with translated text in an assembly used for localizing our application. But they have gotten a bit messy... I would like to rename some of the keys, and move some of them into other resource files. And I would like those changes be done in my code, and the translated versions of the resource files as well. Maybe a some analysis on what strings are missing in the translated versions, and what strings have been removed from the original as well... Does anyone know of a good visual studio extension or ReSharper plugin that can help me with this? Right now it is kind of a pain, because I have to first rename the key in the base resource file, then in the localized versions. And then compile to get all the compile errors resulting from the key which now have a different name, and then go through and fix them all... very annoying =/

• Executing a file not a project

  I use Aptana Studio for my PHP projects. I have not learned it but just used with what I was able to do in it. Many features I still don't know how to use in it. At present, I have a HTML form and I want to write a .php script for the SEND button that it has. It is a submission script for the contact form. I want a simple PHP IDE with which I can execute a single PHP file or work with at least two or three files easily, without much mess. Please suggest a simple alternative to Aptana.

• java - reduce external jar file size

  Hi all, still learning, so be patient :) I've developed a module for a Java project. The module depends on external library (fastutil). the problem is, the fastutil.jar file is a couple of times heavier than the whole project itself (14 MB). I only use a tiny subset of the classes from the library. the module is now finished, and no-one is likely to extend it in future. is there a way I could extract only the relevant class to some fastutil_small.jar so that others don't have to download all this extra weight? there's probably a simple answer to this, but as I said, I still consider myself a noob. It does work if the span is hard coded into the page for example: <span title="text to populate" class="type">test</span> I'm guessing that the XML is not getting loaded into the DOM in the right way (or something like that) Any Ideas?

  I created an EC2 instance (Ubuntu 64 bit) and attached a volume from a publicly available snapshot to the instance. I successfully mounted the volume. I am supposed to be able to run a script from this attached volume using the following steps as explained in the tutorial: Log in to your virtual machine. mkdir /space mount /dev/sdf1 /space cd /space ./setup-script The problem is that, when I try: ./setup-script I got the following message: -bash: ./setup-script: No such file or directory What is the problem ?   Hey I try to write a littel bash script. This should copy a dir and all files in it. Then it should search each file and dir in this copied dir for a String (e.g @ForTestingOnly) and then this save the line number. Then it should go on and count each { and } as soon as the number is equals it should save againg the line number. = it should delete all the lines between this 2 numbers. Of course there is no user having my address at sonic.net. Also, I assume that I just discovered that I can't send mail to users at sonic.net by accident and that there are probably other domains I can't send e-mail to. So... anybody have any idea what's going on? And how I can get mail to users at sonic.net?

• Workaround: XNA 4 importing only part of 3d model from FBX

  Recently I found a problem with importing 3D models from FBX files: it sometimes imported partly. That is when you draw a 3D model, loaded from FBX file, processed by content pipeline, you got only part of meshes. “Sometimes” means that you got this error only for some files. Results of my research below. For example, I have 10Mb binary FBX file with a model, looks like: And when I load it, result Model instance contains only part of meshes and looks like: Because models from other files imported normally, I think that it’s a “bad format” file. When you add FBX file to your XNA Content project and build it, imported file processing by XNA Fbx Importer & Processor. On MSDN I found that FbxImporter designed to work with 2006.11 version of FBX format. My file is FBX 2012 format. Ok, I need to convert it to 2006 format. It can be done by using Autodesk FBX Converter 2012.1. I tried to convert it to other versions of FBX formats, but without success. And I also tried to import my FBX file to 3D MAX, and it imported correctly. Then I export model using 3D MAX, and it generate me other FBX, which I add to my XNA project. After that I got full model, that rendered well! So, internal data structure of FBX file is more important for right XNA import, than it version! Unfortunately, Autodesk FBX is not an open file format. If you want to work with FBX, you should use Autodesk FBX SDK. This way you can manually read content of FBX file, and use it everyway. Then I tried to convert my source FBX file to DAE Collada, and result DAE file back to FBX, using FBX Converter (FBX –> DAE –> FBX). The result FBX file can be imported normally.   Conclusion: XNA FbxImporter correct work doesn't depend on version (2006, 2011, etc) and form (binary, ascii) of FBX file. Internal FBX data structure much more important. To make FBX "readable" for XNA Importer you can use double conversion like FBX -> Collada -> FBX You also can use FBX SDK to manually load data from FBX P.S. Autodesk FBX Converter 2012 is more, than simple converter. It provide you tools like: FBX Explorer, which show you structure of FBX file; FBX Viewer, which render content of FBX and provide basic intercation like model move and zoom; FBX Take Manager, which allow to work with embedded animations

I heard the loud sounds and whatnot from one of the ads but nothing was harmed and other than having the life scared out of me nothing was immediately affected. Literally nothing has changed. • How to execute a Ruby file in Java, capable of calling functions from the Java program and receiving primitive-type results?

  I do not fully understand what am I asking (lol!), well, in the sense of if it is even possible, that is. If it isn't, sorry. Suppose I have a Java program. It has a Main and a JavaCalculator class. JavaCalculator has some basic functions like public int sum(int a,int b) { return a + b } Now suppose I have a ruby file. Called MyProgram.rb. MyProgram.rb may contain anything you could expect from a ruby program. Let us assume it contains the following: class RubyMain def initialize print "The sum of 5 with 3 is #{sum(5,3)}" end def sum(a,b) # <---------- Something will happen here end end rubyMain = RubyMain.new Good. Now then, you might already suspect what I want to do: I want to run my Java program I want it to execute the Ruby file MyProgram.rb When the Ruby program executes, it will create an instance of JavaCalculator, execute the sum function it has, get the value, and then print it. The ruby file has been executed successfully. The Java program closes. Note: The "create an instance of JavaCalculator" is not entirely necessary. I would be satisfied with just running a sum function from, say, the Main class. My question: is such possible? Can I run a Java program which internally executes a Ruby file which is capable of commanding the Java program to do certain things and get results? In the above example, the Ruby file asks the Java program to do a sum for it and give the result. This may sound ridiculous. I am new in this kind of thing (if it is possible, that is). WHY AM I ASKING THIS? I have a Java program, which is some kind of game engine. However, my target audience is a bunch of Ruby coders. I don't want to have them learn Java at all. So I figured that perhaps the Java program could simply offer the functionality (capacity to create windows, display sprites, play sounds...) and then, my audience can simply code with Ruby the logic, which basically justs asks my Java engine to do things like displaying sprites or playing sounds. That's when I though about asking this.

• Encrypt images before uploading to Dropbox [migrated]

  I want to encrypt a file first before the file will be uploaded to the dropbox. So i have implement the encryption inside the uploading of the codes. However, there is an error after i integrate the codes together. Where did my mistake go wrong? Error at putFileOverwriteRequest and it says The method putFileOverwriteRequest(String, InputStream, long, ProgressListener) in the type DropboxAPI is not applicable for the arguments (String, FileOutputStream, long, new ProgressListener(){}) Another problem is that this FileOutputStream fis = new FileOutputStream(new File("dont know what to put in this field")); i do not know where to put the file so that after i read the file, it will call the path and then upload to the Dropbox. Anyone is kind to help me in this? As time is running out for me and i still cant solve the problem. Thank you in advance. • Outlook 2010: Can I search Only My: Inbox, All Inbox Subfolders, and Specified Archive File Folders all at once

  The setup is a user that has a laptop with Outlook 2010. We have Outlook hosted by Sherweb. The user that has a large number of emails (40,000) in a single Inbox subfolder. (I believe) Having such a large number of emails in an inox is slowing the users laptop down and I want to start moving old emails to a seperate pst file on a machine on our network. The problem I have is the user needs to be able to search all 40,000 emails. Right now he can can search do a search on the single subfolder. I would like to be able to move some of the emails to a seperate pst so I can compact the Inbox and still give them a 'one-click' search function that is still fairly quick. I don't think the 'Search All Outlook Items' is the soltuion because this will search all outlook folders -- sent items, other public folders. P.S. I'm not a expericenced outlook administrator, so there may be some assumptions in my questions that are wrong. I have no problem with somebody showing the error of my ways.

• Making WCF Output a single WSDL file for interop purposes.

  By default, when WCF emits a WSDL definition for your services, it can often contain many links to others related schemas that need to be imported. For the most part, this is fine. WCF clients understand this type of schema without issue, and it conforms to the requisite standards as far as WSDL definitions go. However, some non Microsoft stacks will only work with a single WSDL file and require that all definitions for the service(s) (port types, messages, operation etc…) are contained within that single file. In other words, no external imports are supported. Some Java clients (to my working knowledge) have this limitation. This obviously presents a problem when trying to create services exposed for consumption and interop by these clients. If we follow this link, we will see that the XSD imports are now in this external WSDL file. Not really any benefit for our purposes. Step 2: Define a namespace for your service behaviour [ServiceBehavior(Namespace = "http://SingleWSDL/Service1")] public class Service1 : IService1 { ...... } As you can see, the namespace of the service behaviour should be the same as the service contract interface to which it implements. Failure to do these tasks will cause WCF to emit its default http://tempuri.org namespace all over the place and cause WCF to still generate import statements. This is also true if the namespace of the contract and behaviour differ. If you define one and not the other, defaults kick in, and you’ll find extra imports generated. While each of the previous 2 steps wont cause any less import statements to be generated, you will notice that namespace definitions within the WSDL have identical, well defined names. Finally…. the magic…. Step 4: Use a custom endpoint behaviour to read in external imports and include in the main WSDL output. In order to force WCF to output a single WSDL with all the required definitions, we need to define a custom WSDL Export extension that can be applied to any endpoints. This requires implementing the IWsdlExportExtension and IEndpointBehavior interfaces and then reading in any imported schemas, and adding that output to the main, flattened WSDL to be output. Sounds like fun right…..? Hmmm well maybe not. This step sounds a little hairy, but its actually quite easy thanks to some kind individuals who have already done this for us. As far as I know, there are 2 available implementations that we can easily use to perform the import and “WSDL flattening”.  WCFExtras which is on codeplex and FlatWsdl by Thinktecture. Both implementations actually do exactly the same thing with the imports and provide an endpoint behaviour, however FlatWsdl does a little more work for us by providing a ServiceHostFactory that we can use which automatically attaches the requisite behaviour to our endpoints for us. If we follow this link, we will see that the XSD imports are now in this external WSDL file. Not really any benefit for our purposes. Step 2: Define a namespace for your service behaviour [ServiceBehavior(Namespace = "http://SingleWSDL/Service1")] public class Service1 : IService1 { ...... } As you can see, the namespace of the service behaviour should be the same as the service contract interface to which it implements. Failure to do these tasks will cause WCF to emit its default http://tempuri.org namespace all over the place and cause WCF to still generate import statements. This is also true if the namespace of the contract and behaviour differ. If you define one and not the other, defaults kick in, and youll find extra imports generated. While each of the previous 2 steps wont cause any less import statements to be generated, you will notice that namespace definitions within the WSDL have identical, well defined names. Finally. the magic. Step 4: Use a custom endpoint behaviour to read in external imports and include in the main WSDL output. In order to force WCF to output a single WSDL with all the required definitions, we need to define a custom WSDL Export extension that can be applied to any endpoints. This requires implementing the IWsdlExportExtension and IEndpointBehavior interfaces and then reading in any imported schemas, and adding that output to the main, flattened WSDL to be output. Sounds like fun right..? Hmmm well maybe not. This step sounds a little hairy, but its actually quite easy thanks to some kind individuals who have already done this for us. As far as I know, there are 2 available implementations that we can easily use to perform the import and WSDL flattening.  WCFExtras which is on codeplex and FlatWsdl by Thinktecture. Both implementations actually do exactly the same thing with the imports and provide an endpoint behaviour, however FlatWsdl does a little more work for us by providing a ServiceHostFactory that we can use which automatically attaches the requisite behaviour to our endpoints for us. • Records not being saved to core data sqlite file

  I'm a complete newbie when it comes to iOS programming and much less Core Data. It's rather non-intuitive for me, as I really came into my own with programming with MATLAB, which I guess is more of a 'scripting' language. At any rate, my problem is that I had no idea what I had to do to create a database for my application. So I read a little bit and thought I had to create a SQL database of my stuff and then import it. Long story short, I created a SQLite db and I want to use the work I have already done to import stuff into my CoreData database. I tried exporting to comma-delimited files and xml files and reading those in, but I didn't like it and it seemed like an extra step that I shouldn't need to do. So, I imported the SQLite database into my resources and added the sqlite framework. I have my core data model setup and it is setting up the SQLite database for the model correctly in the background. When I run through my program to add objects to my entities, it seems to work and I can even fetch results afterward. However, when I inspect the Core Data Database SQLite file, no records have been saved. • Reading a child process's /proc/pid/mem file from the parent

  In the program below, I am trying to cause the following to happen: Process A assigns a value to a stack variable a. Process A (parent) creates process B (child) with PID child_pid. Process B calls function func1, passing a pointer to a. Process B changes the value of variable a through the pointer. Process B opens its /proc/self/mem file, seeks to the page containing a, and prints the new value of a. Process A (at the same time) opens /proc/child_pid/mem, seeks to the right page, and prints the new value of a. The problem is that, in step 6, the parent only sees the old value of a in /proc/child_pid/mem, while the child can indeed see the new value in its /proc/self/mem. Why is this the case? • Using glDrawElements does not draw my .obj file

  I am trying to correctly import an .OBJ file from 3ds Max. I got this working using glBegin() & glEnd() from a previous question on here, but had really poor performance obviously, so I am trying to use glDrawElements now. I am importing a chessboard, its game pieces, etc. The board, each game piece, and each square on the board is stored in a struct GroupObject. When I am looping through the faces f section in the obj file, I store the v0, v1, & v2 in the Material-indices. (I am doing v[0-2] - 1 to account for obj files being 1-based and my vectors being 0-based. So when I get to the render method, I am trying to loop through every object, which loops through every material attached to that object. I set the material information and try and use glDrawElements. However, the screen is black. I was able to draw the model just fine when I looped through each distinct material with all the indices associated with that material, and it drew the model fine. This time around, so I can use the stencil buffer for selecting GroupObjects, I changed up the loop, but the screen is black. Here is my render loop. I did a breakpoint there, and there are over 600 elements in the pMaterial-indices array, so it's not empty, it has indices to use. • java.lang.NullPointerException exception in my controller file (using Spring Hibernate Maven)

  The problem doesn't seemed to have anything to do with Hibernate. As I've commented the Hibernate stuff but I'm still getting it. If I comment out this line message = staffDAO.searchForStaff(search); in my controller file, it goes through ok. But I don't see anything wrong with searchForStaff function. It's a very simple function that just returns the string "test" and run system.out.println("test").   I have a html form like this <form data-ajax="false" action='UserPhoto.php' class="settings" method='POST' enctype='multipart/form-data' > <input type='file' style="height:25px" name='photo' /> <input type='hidden' name='task' value='upload'> <input type='hidden' name='file_size' value='5000000'> and I want to upload it by using webView posturl function, is it possible? as I know posturl can send String data by this way String value1 = "persistent=1"; String value2 = "&email="+ 2nd_value; String value3 = "&password="+ 3rd_value; String postData = value1+value2+value3; webView.postUrl("http://www.abc.php",EncodingUtils.getBytes(postData, "BASE64")); but is it possible for me to post .png together with some string values? and I know another method using this way to upload photo conn.setRequestProperty("Connection", "Keep-Alive"); conn.setRequestProperty("ENCTYPE", "multipart/form-data"); conn.setRequestProperty("Content-Type", "multipart/form-data;boundary=" + boundary); conn.setRequestProperty("photo", fileName); but this way doesn't communicate with webview, I need to post the photo using webview as user session is kept with it.
