  Today I upgraded to Android SDK 2.3 and I also upgraded the Eclipse Plugin Androi Developer Tools 8.0 (from 0.9.9). I also upgraded my Java Development Kit to 1.6_22. Now in Eclipse I get many errors in all my Android projects. The error messages are like: The type java.lang.Object cannot be resolved. It is indirectly referenced from required .class files. How can I fix this so I can use my Android projects again? In the Build Path for these projects, I don't have any references to an android.jar but a message: Unable to get system library for project

• mCrypt not present after Ubuntu upgrade to 13.10

  After I have upgraded my system from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10 several problems have occurred with apache, mysql and php configurations. I solved most of them but I can't seem to get mCrypt library working. Package is installed so i don't need to apt-get it. Server works and everything seems fine, but when I try to run php artisan serve with Laravel 4, I get a message that mCrypt is required. I did php --ri mcrypt and the output was Extension 'mcrypt' not present. I have tried putting extension=mcrypt.so to /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini but it didn't worked. Any ideas?

  Tracking events and setting up Analytics for Websites seems easy. You create an account with one of the Analytics service providers like Google. They give you javascript code that you embed in your pages (whichever event you wish to track) and voila..you're done. I have written a native application for Android phones, which is actually an adaptation of the actual web site. Now, I am required to setup Analytics and tracking for this native application. Question: How to do setup a native application for Analytics? We have Java Script code(not Google Analytics but for some other engine) that works for the original web site. Is there a way to incorporate that in the native application? I know Android supports Java Script via WebViews(Webkit);my application does not have webviews, it is native! I have not worked on JavaScript since school so excuse me if I sound naive. Thanks.

• WPF Binding not updating when binded object is updated

  I'm trying to bind to a custom control like so: <my:GanttChartTaskListView Name="ganttChartTaskListView1" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={x:Static local:TaskCollection.taskList}}" /> In my WPF Window constructor I add add an item to my taskList, when it loads I can see that item in my custom control, however, when I subsequently add items it does not update. I tried setting Mode=TwoWay, however, then it says the "Path" is required and I'm not familiar with binding like that (this is new to me). Here is my TaskCollection class: namespace ProjectManager { public static class TaskCollection { private static List<TaskItem> _taskList = new List<TaskItem>(); public static List<TaskItem> taskList { get {return _taskList; } set { _taskList = value; } } } } Any ideas? Is there a better / easier way to do this?

• Are there any context-sensitive code search tools?

  I have been getting very frustrated recently in dealing with a massive bulk of legacy code which I am trying to get familiar with. Say I try to search for a particular function call, I get loads of results that turn out to be completely irrelevant; some of them are easy to spot, eg a comment saying // Fixed functionality in foo() so don't need to handle this here any more But others are much harder to spot manually, because they turn out to be calls from other functions in modules that are only compiled in certain cases, or are part of a much larger block of code that is #if 0'd out in its entirety. What I'd like would be a search tool that would allow me to search for a term and give me the choice to include or exclude commented out or #if 0'd out code. Then the search results would be displayed alongside a list of #defines that are required in order for that snippet of code to be relevant. I'm working in C / C++, but other than the specific comment syntax I guess the techniques should be more generally applicable. Does such a tool exist?

• Is sending a PDF as encoded byte array in XML sensible

  Hi I am looking to return a PDF from a webservice call. (ATM, a custom proxy is required at the client-side) AFAICS, there are 2 ways of doing it a) Return the link to a web-accessible location b) Encode the PDF and include it in the XML In my circumstance, a) will require 2 trips from the client, the first to get the path and the second to get the file. However, wrt b), this link (http://www.coderanch.com/t/279020/Streams/java/wrting-bytearray-xml-file#1283263) suggests that it isn't a good idea to encode a PDF, though without explanation.   I've inherited a high-traffic site that loads some Ext javascript files and I'm trying to trim some bandwidth usage. Are Ext libraries necessary for development only or are they required for the finished site (I've never used Ext.) The site loads ext-base.js, ext-all-debug.js, expander.js, exteditor.js. It appears that expander.js and exteditor.js have some site specific code, so they should stay? But what about ext-base.js and ext-all-debug.js? Am I reading this correctly - are base and debugging libraries necessary for a live site?

  As mentioned in this answer simply calling the destructor for the second time is already undefined behavior 12.4/14(3.8). For example: class Class { public: ~Class() {} }; // somewhere in code: { Class* object = new Class(); object->~Class(); delete object; // UB because at this point the destructor call is attempted again } In this example the class is designed in such a way that the destructor could be called multiple times - no things like double-deletion can happen. The memory is still allocated at the point where delete is called - the first destructor call doesn't call the ::operator delete() to release memory. For example, in Visual C++ 9 the above code looks working. Even C++ definition of UB doesn't directly prohibit things qualified as UB from working. So for the code above to break some implementation and/or platform specifics are required. Why exactly would the above code break and under what conditions?

  So i have started building android from scratch and after lot of effort finally landed up to a point where i have the OUT folder consisting of all the required IMG files for an emulator to run. Like the system.img ramdisk.img userdata-qemu.img So after that i ran the emulator command so that means the OUT directory was valid and could easily be used to create any other bootable medium. What i want to accomplish Creating the iso file from all those img files found at the end of building process,or a way to just create an iso out of that complete OUT folder. any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi I know that Spring doesn't supports Interface injection and I've read that many a times. But today as I came across an article about IOC by Martin Fowler (link), it seems using ApplicationContextAware in Spring is some what similar to the Interface injection. when ever Spring' context reference is required in our Spring bean, we'll implement ApplicationContextAware and will implement the setApplicationContext(ApplicationContext context) method, and we'll include the bean in the config file. Is not this the same as Interface injection, where where telling the Spring to inject (or), say, pass the reference of the context into this bean? Or I m missing something here?   I'm learning c++0x, at least the parts supported by the Visual C++ Express 2010 Beta. This is a question about style rather than how it works. Perhaps it's too early for style and good practice to have evolved yet for a standard that isn't even released yet... In c++0x you can define the return type of a method using - type at the end of the function instead of putting the type at the start. I believe this change in syntax is required due to lambdas and some use cases of the new decltype keyword, but you can use it anywhere as far as I know. // Old style int add1(int a, int b) { return a + b; } // New style return type auto add2(int a, int b) -> int { return a + b; } My question really then, is given that some functions will need to be defined in the new way is it considered good style to define all functions in this way for consistency? Or should I stick to only using it when necessary?

I have recently come across some extremely bad (in my eyes) legacy code that lends itself to chaos (someHugeJavafile.js) which contains a lot of the logic used in many of the pages. Let's say for example that you have a Form that you need to complete. 1. Personal Details 2. Address Information 3. Little bit more about yourself You don't want to overload the person with all the fields at once, so you decide to split it up into steps. Do you create separate pages for Personal Details, Address Information and a Little bit more about yourself. Do you create controls for each and hide and show them on a postback or using some update panel? Do you use jQuery and do some checking to ensure that the person has completed the required fields for the step and show the new "section" by using .show()? How do you usually find the balance?
